The Worst Reincarnation Yet

Chapter 8: Welcome to Beacon!

This morning's weather conditions were cloudy with a recurring appearance of blue hues, a combination of soft and bright. Despite the grey hue that gradually turns to steel beneath the cloud cover, the leading edge is a brilliant white, resembling snow. So, on this day that could bring rain or sunshine, the young boy who was just arriving at Beacon didn't care because his mind was too busy thinking about how to deal with his sister and her friends. He needed to make this trip as short as possible, as he didn't want to get wrapped up in their problems.

"I'm finally here." Whitley was at the main avenue that led to the main academy buildings and their large, impressive main doorway. There were several flag-draped light poles, as well as a number of quite impressive aqueduct-like features and archways. "Have to be honest, this sight truly is astonishing." He couldn't contain his smile, Beacon itself seemed more like a castle than a school for huntsmen and huntresses. "No wonder why everyone wishes to come to this place."

There were plenty of students around the avenue hanging about, with some giving glances to the white-haired boy. "W-Why are they staring at me? Do I look weird?" He mumbled to himself while fidgeting his hands. A few more glances came his way, but now he had enough, Whitley simply ignored them as they were probably thinking that he was a new freshman or something. "Ughh! I hate being at a school, it just brings back bad memories about my college days." Suffice it to say his time was not great.

Whitley walked around exploring the area until he felt a sudden tap on his shoulder. When he turned around, he saw a girl with black twin pigtails and green eyes that twinkled like little emeralds. "Ah! It's you! I'm glad you were able to make it in without any problems." The anxiety that was creeping up was completely gone now. "Heh! I like the style you chose, the outfit suits you well." The stranger's attire consisted of a sleeveless black blouse with white frills on the chest and collar, there was also a black ribbon bow hanging from the front of the collar. Her skirt matches the color of her blouse, and it's knee-length, fastened with a white belt.

After hearing such an unexpected compliment, the woman smiled with delight. Hehe! This guy really is weird. Her cute devilish smile made the young man blush a little, which she found amusing, though this wasn't the time to get distracted as members of the Maelstrom could be anywhere. I'm used to hiding myself, it's my best skill to sneak into places to grab what I want, so pretending to be someone else to fool people is easy. Neo felt confident in her abilities, as she consistently performed well in the tasks assigned to her by Roman.

"Alright, here's the plan." A quick look around first to make sure there was no one listening in to them. "We are here to visit my sister, not cause problems, so I have to ask you to please restrain yourself from hurting or killing anyone that might annoy you." Having Neo as a bodyguard was splendid since her fighting skills were extremely good, but her prone to violence was an issue.

Neo's expression changed, she took out her Scroll and wrote. "Do I look like a psychopath?"

"... N-No." Yes! "I-I simply want to make sure we are on the same page, that's all." His face was covered in sweat as he needed to find a way out. "W-Well, I only don't want to cause trouble for Weiss, she seems to be enjoying her time here, so I don't wish to bother her." Although this was an attempt to steer the conversation to another route, he certainly cared about the Ice Queen. "She already has enough to deal with without me adding more issues to her own."

Hmm, odd he didn't appear that interested in her, guess I was wrong, he must really care about his sister if he's this concerned. Neo understood what Whitley was saying, she too would do anything for Roman since he was like a brother to her. I keep getting surprised by this Schnee, he definitely doesn't behave like those bastard nobles, family must be important to him. "Fine, I promise to be on my best behavior."

Whitley breathed a sigh of relief, but he realized one thing. "Oh! Before we proceed, how should I call you? We need to conceal your real identity after all."

There was a certain name that came to her, unfortunately, it was one she would rather forget. "Although I despise being called by this filthy name, I shall use it this time. You can refer to me as Trivia."

This was unexpected, the young Schnee knew how much she hated that particular name, so why use it? "Are you sure? There's no need to force yourself to use it, you can just pick another." His sincere concern for her well-being was something that still surprised Neo, she certainly could not comprehend how this man could be preoccupied with a selfish criminal like her. "C-Come on, let's pick another identity for you, there's plenty to choose from." The more time she spent with this guy, the more intrigued she was by him.

"I appreciate your words, but if I recall correctly you once said I shouldn't belittle myself, so I am going to take this chance and try to take back what's rightfully mine." Her confident look showed she was ready to break free from her family's chains.

The young man's eyes widened, he was impressed by Neo's determination, but also that she had listened to him. That's right! You shouldn't feel ashamed of your real name because of what your parents did in the past. I see now you are willing to fight against your own darkness, I hope this is the start of your new path to becoming a better person. Seeing her like this brought hope to Whitley, as maybe she could change her fate. "I... I'm sure you will break free as long you never give up, you are far stronger than you realize."

Neo nodded. For some reason, when I'm with you... I... I don't hate myself. This feeling was strange to her but not in a bad way, in fact, she felt warmth every time Whitley appeared before her. Hmm... I think it's... because of you.

A light blush was on the girl's cheeks while staring at the boy deep in thought, which he took notice of, making him feel a bit embarrassed he even turned around to avoid her gaze. "Ahem! W-We uhmm, s-should get going, my sister was supposed to meet us here, but I guess she must be busy at the moment." Whitley glanced at the girl, and it seemed she was back to normal. "I never had a chance to visit Beacon before, so exploring this place will be fun, don't you think?" Honestly, he preferred to leave immediately, however, if he did Weiss would most likely go after him and ruin his plans.

"Sure." Neo was also quite curious to see more of the academy, but there was a question she needed to ask. "Where's that odd girl from yesterday? Wasn't she meant to be here already?"

"Ah! Penny had a few things to do, so it's just us."

Hmph! If I hadn't decided to tag along, he would be all on his own without having anyone watching his back, that silly little girl clearly can't be trusted. Neo then realized something. W-Why am I worrying about this silver-spoon guy?... She never once cared about anyone except for Roman, so this was unusual for her. H-Heh! I'm only doing this to show my gratitude for saving my life, after all, I'm just using him for my own gain... right?

Both of them went on a little adventure across the campus, Whitley and Neo were awestruck by the view of the cliffside, then they saw several Bullheads lifting off and flying away they were probably transporting students to field missions. Time passed quickly as they continued to explore, now they were standing in front of a big statue featuring two warriors standing in triumph while a Beowolf was below them. The message the statue was trying to relay was clear, huntsmen and huntresses are heroes that provided humanity with an incredible gift, hope. At least this was what Whitley interpreted.

The duo heard a strange, loud sound, but they were unable to find the source. "It sounded like plates breaking... I think." They heard another loud noise behind them and when they turned around the pair saw many people running away, most students had their clothes covered with filth while others had their hair ruined by a mixture of sauces. "Hahaha! Someone seems to have started a food fight! Haha..." Whitley paused for a second as he had seen this before. Ohhh noo! If I am correct, then this means... Whitley and Neo followed the sound, and it led them to a large entrance with the doors flung open.

It seemed there was a battle happening, the duo observed a group of girls and boys fighting each other using their food as weapons. Plates, glasses, bread, chicken, everything was flying everywhere it was pure chaos. Neo found this entertaining, unfortunately, the same could not be said for the white-haired boy. "... Best day ever." He whispered to himself in horror, as this meant the plot for volume 2 was beginning. Dammit! I thought I had more time! He clenched his fist and did his best to remain calm. Panicking won't solve anything, the best solution is to just get this over with and make sure to keep my distance from the main characters.

In a flash, a pie hit him square in the face, making Neo laugh. Hehehe! Ohh! Hehe! She hadn't had this much fun in a while. The boy turned to her as the pie slowly fell to the ground, he was clearly annoyed.

"Cute." Whitley used his handkerchief to wipe off what remained.

"You should pay more attention to your surroundings." A pie immediately slammed against her face.

"Haha!" He chuckled. "Right back at you." Whitley then handed over his handkerchief to the girl, her expression revealed she was ready to kill someone. "We better wait for them to finish unless you feel a bit peckish, if so there's pie." The Schnee smiled mockingly.

Neo flicked the young man's forehead before showing him her Scroll. "Smart Ass."

"WHITLEY!" Someone shouted in the distance, gaining the attention of the duo. The one who called out to him was none other than his sister, and her appearance was far from ideal, with her clothes completely ruined by countless stains, not to mention her messy hair. "I see you finally decided to visit, and here I thought I had to go hunt you down." She was a little bitter he took this long to come and see her, however, she noticed her brother's companion. "Oh, my apologies for making your acquaintance in this sorry state but allow me to introduce myself, I'm his sister, Weiss. And who might you be?"

"A-Ah right! My friend here can't speak, so she communicates using her Scroll." A twinge of nervousness crept up for a moment.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, my name is Trivia, and he hired me to be his bodyguard." She bowed gracefully.

"So you are capable to talk to girls now, I'm impressed." The reply she received from Whitley was a middle finger, which resulted in Trivia grinning. Weiss stared at the girl studying her for a split second, she looked capable enough though she had to be sure. "I thank you for looking out for him, but I would like to make a request if possible, I wish to test your abilities myself." She noticed her brother was displeased, nonetheless, Weiss needed to test his companion.

"You're being rude to my friend, you know, or is it that you doubt my judgment?" His tone was quite bitter.

Trivia placed her hand on Whitley's shoulder while having a smirk on her lips, she appreciated what he was trying to do, but she relished the challenge. "I accept." It has been a while since she last fought, so this was something she was looking forward to. "Have no concern, I shall prove how strong I am." Her confidence in her skills was one of the things the young man admired about her.

Weiss nodded. "Tomorrow in the afternoon at the amphitheater we can have our duel."

Whitley sighed as this wasn't going as planned. Can this get any worse?! He then noticed three girls approaching them. Ah, fuck!

The first girl was the same size as him, her hair was reddish but what really caught his attention were her silver eyes, they glowed like diamonds. Next to her was a tall woman with long blonde hair, and her figure was simply alluring. The last one had black hair and yellow eyes, she kind of resembled a cat in a way, though there was no denying that she was cute. "Hi there!" The girl with red hair said. "Is the Ice-Queen bothering you guys? I'm really sorry, she's got a bit of a temper, so please don't mind her too much." She apologized. "I'm Ruby, by the way."

"Excuse me?!"

"Wow! You look like her male version." The blondie was intrigued. "Oh, my bad! I'm Yang, and this here is Blake." She patted her friend on the back, though the girl remained silent, simply observing the situation at hand. "So, you guys are siblings, right? I mean, you do look alike."

Hearing that made the boy chuckle. "Indeed we are, I'm Whitley Schnee, her brother and this is Trivia." He was about to reach for Yang's hand due to his noble etiquette, however, he felt an intense glare upon him, he glanced back and saw it was coming from his bodyguard, so he stopped and moved his hand to his pocket. D-Did I do something wrong? She looks angry for some reason. He didn't understand his companion's reaction. "A-Anyway, I'm glad to see my sister is making friends, she's always been difficult to deal with, unfortunately."

Ruby and the others giggled. "Nah, we can handle it." Said the silver-eyed girl with a smile. "Though I have to agree with Yang, you both really look the same, if Weiss cut her hair like yours I doubt I would be able to tell you two apart."

"Hahaha!" Whitley laughed.

Now, Weiss was getting annoyed. "What are you laughing for, you idiot? She's saying you look girlish."

"Oh? Are you sure about that dear sister because I believe she means you look mannish." He replied with a grin.

The siblings started to bicker with one another. "You two really get along well." Said Yang. "Well, I hate to cut this meeting short, but we have to clean this mess before the teachers find out about this mess. I hope we can hang out more later, there are a lot of things I want to know about Weiss." She left with Ruby and Blake following right behind her.

"She has a point, we have to clean the dining hall fast." Weiss turned to Whitley. "You know a good brother would help his sister with this mess."

"Hmm, I suppose you are right."

Weiss was happy to hear that, she then pointed at the tables that were complete filth due to the food fight. "Go grab a bucket and some rags to wash those tables, then we have to pick up the food that fell on the ground and put in on that trash over there. After that, we have to..." The lack of a response from the young man made her turn around, and when she did, her brother was no longer there. "Wha... Where did he go?"

Trivia pointed at the exit. "WHITLEY!" Weiss shouted.

"I NEVER SAID I WAS A GOOD BROTHER!" He kept running.

"That little brat!" She went after him.

Guess this might be more fun than I expected. Trivia, thought to herself. Though, why did I get angry when he was about to grab that blondie's hand?... I... I don't want him to look at any other girl except me.
