Chapter 11
"What's going on?" Ben Updike asked as Fin led him out of the interrogation room. He noticed that his boss was in handcuffs and Detective Rollins was busy taking down all of his information.
"Seems your boss is behind in his child support. New York State takes that seriously," Captain Benson explained. The truth was it was a Class A misdemeanor at best which normally resulted in probation for three years and a more structured way for the offender to pay back what they owed. Still, it was enough to hold Casey Barreto. They needed to drill down on this guy to see if he was hiding something else.
"What am I supposed to do?" Ben asked.
"Go back to work. You just got a promotion," Fin told him. Ben only nodded, not sure what else to do. He was halfway out the door when he stopped in his tracks. Bruno, Churlish, Detective Lee were letting the others out of their interrogation rooms and it resulted in much the same scene as when Ben walked into that scene. The others moved to Ben, who told them he'd see them back at the cemetery.
Detective Klass watched the scene and looked at the Captain. She'd seen it too and nodded slightly at the Queens SVU detective. Ben managed to get back inside the bullpen and approached Fin.
"Sergeant Tutuola…" Fin turned from his chat with Bruno and looked at the man.
"What's up Ben?" He wanted to know.
"I…" Ben looked at his boss, who looked like he was about to have a mental breakdown. Fin jerked his head towards the break room and the two of them scooted in there.
"What do you think he knows?" Klass whispered to Gonzales and Rollins.
"Something he didn't know before until a couple of minutes ago," Rollins smirked.
"I think we got something on our guy that we just missed," Gonzales made their focus shift to their other problem.
"What'd you find?" Klass asked.
"Our guy, Mr. Louis Howey, doesn't exactly have a clean record. He's got multiple parking tickets for a location that is not near his home… or his office…" the detective from New Jersey said.
"Winner, winner, chicken dinner," Rollins gave them a look. She went to get up and Detective Klass quickly moved to help her.
"This kid better come quick," the blonde shook her head as she straightened up, cracking her back.
"In their own good time, or so I've been told," Klass chuckled.
"My time, if he's not careful," Rollins chuckled back. Olivia had seen them coming and opened her office door. Churlish was escorting Casey Barreto into interrogation with Bruno on her heels.
"We've got something," Rollins explained.
"You mean Klass and Gonzales got something," her Captain looked at her.
"Parking tickets in a weird location for our Mr. Louis Howey. Need to check the site and then his home," Klass explained.
"Go and keep me posted," Olivia said. Klass nodded and quickly scooted to Gonzales. He'd written down everything they needed to know and quickly left the bullpen.
"Hey Liv," Fin's voice made the Captain turn but her hand went to Amanda's elbow.
"What have you got?" She asked.
"Ben has something he'd like to share with the class," Fin motioned for the man to come out of the breakroom.
