And now that I am leaving
Sesshomaru waited. He was leaving to seek out potential mates. But where were his Miko and mother, fighting probably.
Babe stood nearby, looking anxious.
The doors burst open, and out walked Kagome. She wore a simple, less layered but beautiful pink and navy Kimono. Her hair was down in soft waved with one pen in the shape of a bird in her hair.
Kagome had today's argument in seemed.
She beamed with happiness.
"Hn," Though he didn't want to scold them both about being late, he decided to pick his battle today. After all, he was leaving.
"Are you sure I can't just come with you,"
Baba started cursing under her breath at the very idea. Kagome ignored it.
He looked down at her. "You must stay here,"
"But I thought I was going to help you pick a mate,"
"You are, and why he is allowing it is beyond me," His mother came out,
"What is that supposed to mean?" Kagome put her hands on her hips,
"I have seen your choice in men," She stated back,
"It was one crush!"
"Enough," Sesshomaru snapped. "You will stay to receive my potential mates,"
"How long will you be gone?"
"Missing me already, Miko,"
His mother cleared her throat, and he corrected himself. "Lady Kagome,"
Kagome blushed. That was one rule his mother was not bending on.
"Why, of course not, My Lord," She said with slight amusement in her tone,
"For what reason would she have to miss you, be gone, and send back potential mates,"
"Hn mother,"
He looked at Kagome again. "Shall I bring you back something?"
Again, Kagome wasn't sure what to ask for,
"How about a husband!" His mother snapped,
Sesshomaru turned quickly. "I will surprise you," He said and then vanished.
Kagome turned to his mother. "He didn't mean with a husband, right?"
"You could only hope, girl!" Baba snapped, cutting her ladyship off. She allowed it.
So while was gone Baba and Inkimi tried their best to teach Kagome, and Kagome did listen, she was a good student but as he said she was going to do it her own way.
But late one night, while Kagome looked out into the distance, wondering how Miroku and Sango were, Inukimi came to her calmly.
"Do you feel it?" She asked,
"Sesshomaru?"
"No, he won't be back for some time, but the others?"
Kagome closed her eyes and reached out. "Sorta, but it's faint,"
"They are weak in comparison to us,"
Kagome looked at her, and Inukimi looked at her. "Your house will be powerful; I hope you will remain a powerful friend to the West," Inukimi did not use the term friend, ever.
Kagome smiled. "Of course I will, even though he did try to kill me once," She giggled,
"Only you two would joke about such a thing,"
"It's funny now, though, not at the time,"
"Hn," His mother agreed, then inhaled,
"Something wrong?"
"I have come to understand you, Miko, and respect your choices, however-
Kagome looked away. "I know, you want him to have a strong mate who knows her place; what flies for me doesn't for them,"
"Indeed, so you do understand,"
"More than you give me credit for," But Kagome's face held a sadness,
"You are hopeless yet Miko, he doesn't need your pity,"
"I dont pity him, I just want-
"What his father wanted for him,"
They looked at each other, but Inukimi looked away. "I was what is coming; you are what he wanted,"
Kagome blushed, and her use of terminology "I, um, I dont think it was that simple but-
Inukiki half smiled. "Fret not; our coupling was diplomatic, and we both knew it, agreed,"
The wind blew. "Is that what you want for him?"
"It would not matter if I didnt; times are different, houses are falling, our numbers dwindling,"
"He is doing this because he has to,"
"Of course, if it were up to my son, he would have left and never come back,"
Kagome leaned close to her. "He is coming back, right?"
His mother actually cracked a real smile, then hid it behind her sleeve and laughed.
Kagome smiled. "What if Sesshomaru, you know-
"You can hope it for him if you wish, but do not hold on to that breath, Miko and do not let it get in the way of your duty,"
"I dont think it would really matter; Sesshomaru does as Sesshomaru wishes even if he does look for my advisement,"
"Which is more than most people get with him,"
"I am honored,"
"His father would have liked you,"
Kagome felt a warmth with the breeze,
"You two were very similar in your wishes for my son,"
"It means we care,"
"Are you saying that I dont?"
"No, not at all!"
"Life isn't always fair,"
"I know that," Very well in fact,
"People come and go, love is not always beautiful, sometimes it is just tragic, and then you're gone,"
With that, his mother bowed and left.
Kagome felt Inukimi's sadness but knew, at least for now, to leave it alone.
