I thought, hey, I can leave, I can leave….
She did cry. Slowly, silently. Not only to mourn her feelings, but to mourn in all. Her life, her friends, time, for him.
Halfway through the night, she was sure, dead set on just leaving. Just go back and save herself all the trouble. She had every right to go. She wasn't a prisoner and had no formal agreement.
The sun rose and dried the wetness on her face and sheets and she prayed her mother said nothing to him of their talk, though she wondered if they had a similar one.
His mother had gone to him to ask him if he would ask her to stay, but she was met with him telling her his choice and then a door to her face. She knew he knew she would ask, and it wasn't a question he wanted to answer and so he simply did not oblige her.
Kagome got up, brushed her hair, put on another simple Kimono, and took in a deep breath of cool air; the season was changing.
She was greeted by many who were used to her being around. Rin gave her a warm hug and flower, and her cook fed her warm soup and fish for breakfast with a smile. Everything seemed so alive, and she wondered if it was the news, but the maid told her later they were happy to have her back, and in all, she was happy to be back. Somehow, at some point this place did start to feel like home.
She thought she could leave; it would be hard yet easy, but as she sat there eating, with the people of the West buzzing around, she realized she would miss all this. This place, the people, the everyday different.
Then the one she was sure he chose walked in, and Kagome knew he based his choice on one simple fact.
This one actually gave Rin attention.
She came close and bowed. "May I?"
"Yes, please," Kagome could not be mad at her; what right would she have? The woman had literally done nothing wrong.
"I wanted to speak to you, My Lady,"
Kagome blinked "Ok,"
"My Lord has said I am to be his mate; I assume you agree?" Well, there was no doubt now.
But agree?
The woman must have sensed the confusion. "Have I earned your title, as you put it?"
"Thats has always been up to him, not I, but I do have one question," The demoness was smooth. She wasn't quite rude, yet not eager to have a new human friend.
"You are still Lady of the West,"
Kagome wondered how this woman would be after the fact. Kagome wondered for a moment if her face now was all but an act, if it was it was a good one. Most would never resort to such things, but Kagome now was unsure of her.
"Rin,"
"The human child, what of her?"
"Her place here?"
The woman looked thoughtful. "I must admit, while the human child is not horrid, I am not maternal to her, nor really wish to be, and I am unsure I would call her a sibling to my offspring."
She paused. "However, that is solely up to My Lord, but-
"But?"
"I assumed she would rather go with you,"
Go with her?
So this woman already had her packed and gone in her mind, it was only a matter of it being done.
Kagome stood. "I see, thank you," Kagome bowed her head.
If she left, it wouldn't just be her heart she would be taking with her, but more of his than she realized.
All she was waiting for now, was for him to come to her, she would be brave and tell him she was leaving and no she wasnt taking a husband with his eyes and decide,"
