To all my readers-This is the first time that I'm going to do Yugioh without making any character name changes. I want you all to know that my OC Paige Muto is related to Yugi and her looks are based on him. So, think of Paige as a feminine Yugi and Atem. Before anyone asks, yes, I will be doing all 5 seasons of Yugioh and that includes Capsule monsters as well. I was once asked if Paige would be dueling and yes, she will. You wont be able to see her duel until season 2 when Kaiba starts his Battle City Tournament.
If anyone, and I mean anyone tries to rush me while writing this fanfic or any of my other fanfics, all written chapters will be delayed for a week. No exceptions. Leave a positive review and Happy Reading!
I DONT OWN YUGIOH AT ALL! I ONLY OWN THE OC AND HER DUELING DECK!
Shoutouts:
"Whooey!" exclaimed Joey as he looks at his dueling glove and grinning from ear to ear, feeling proud. "Heh heh. 2 stars. (Giggles) This is so awesome. I can't believe it happened. Am I cool or what?"
"Is there a time limit on how long he gets to crow?" asked Tea.
"If there isn't one, then there needs to be one." said Paige, crossing her arms. "Especially for him because I can't take it anymore."
"Cut him some slack, girls." said Tristan. "Did you ever think Joey would actually beat Mai in a duel? I mean, Joey…who would've thought?"
They looked at him as he polishes the stars on the glove. "I knew he'd do it. I'm really proud of you, Joey." said Yugi.
"Yeah!"
Suddenly Joey's stomach started grumbling. "Uhh, all that duelin' made me hungry." said Joey, grabbing his stomach. "Did any of you guys remember to bring any food with you?"
"Unless you wanted something that is perishable…" Paige started to say.
"Sorry, Joe." they all said.
"Awww." groaned Joey. "What were we thinking coming here with no food? how are we ever gonna get through the rest of the competition without anything to eat?"
"That's a good question, Joey." said Yugi. "This dueling really takes it out of you, and I haven't seen any burger stands or restaurants since we got here."
"Well we better do something fast." said Tea. "I've gotta have my 5 basic food groups, or else it's metabolic meltdown!"
"She's right. I need something in my stomach right now before I pass out." said Paige, placing a hand on her stomach.
"Hey, chill out, you guys. I got it covered." Tristan said.
"Yeah?" they asked, and Tristan holds out a book.
"Check it out…the Great Outdoor Survival Guide."
"Ohh."
"Aw."
"Can we eat it?" asked Joey.
"Better than that, it lists all the plants, roots, berries, and grasses we can eat." he tells them as he flips through the book.
"Ewww!" shouted the others in disgust.
"I'm all for berries, but not roots, plants and grasses." said Paige.
"Do I look like a squirrel, you big doofus?" asked Joey, then starts sniffing the air. "I don't need your dumb book anyhow. I smell something cooking that-a-way. See ya!"
Joey had taken off towards the water. "He's hallucinating." said Tea.
"Don't be so sure. You know, it wasn't his brain that beat Mai. It was his nose." said Tristan.
"Good point." said Paige. Not far from the edge of the cliff, three fishes were on sticks and cooking by the fire.
"Mmm. Oh man! I just love barbecued fish." said Joey.
"Smells good." Tristan added.
"Yeah, and I bet it tastes even better." said Joey, laughing as he climbs over the rock and towards the fish.
"Hey!" shouted Paige.
"What makes you think those fish are yours to eat?" asked Tea.
"Hey, trust me." said Joey, facing her. "We eat first and ask questions later. Your stomach'll thank me."
"Joey!" Tea called after him. "Oh, he'd say anything to fill his belly."
"Some people have absolutely no self-control." said Tristan.
"Huh?" the others asked in confusion as they looked up at him.
"Joey, save some for me!" shouted Tristan as he went after him.
"Uhh…" sighed Tea.
"I know the feeling." said Paige. Tristan and Joey picked up two of the fish as they both say down near the fire. "Ahh, man. this looks awesome." said Joey.
"Ow! Ow, ow! Hot! Hot!" exclaimed Tristan and blows on the fish he's holding. Suddenly, someone who was holding a spear, pulls himself over the cliff from the water.
"Ready, set, feeding frenzy!" shouted Joey and Tristan.
"Enjoy yourselves, ou fish thieves." said the boy. "This is your last meal!"
"Huh?"
"How dare you eat my fish, you thieving poachers?" he asked.
"I didn't even touch the fish." said Paige.
"Has no one taught you manners?" he asked, ignoring Paige as a wave splashes onto the rocks.
"So, can we eat now?" Joey asked and the boy climbs back up.
"All right, let's try that one more time." he said.
"I knew this was a bad idea." said Tea and Paige shakes her head.
"How dare you steal my fish, you bottom-feeding thieves?" he asked.
"Hey, chill out, guy." said Joey. "It's just a few fish."
"A few fish that do not belong to you, and to steal a fisherman's catch is to prove you have no honor!"
"A dueling glove?" Yugi asked himself as he saw what the guy was wearing. "Wait a second! Aren't you Mako Tsunami, the top-ranked ocean duelist?"
"(Groans) And you might you be?" asked Mako.
"Yeah, you're that freaky fish guy." said Joey.
"I am not a freaky fish guy!" Mako shouted at him. "I am Mako Tsunami, duelist extraordinaire of the 7 seas."
"Huh…" said Tea and she starts laughing, causing Paige to giggle.
"Uh, what are you laughing about?" he asked.
"Your head." said Tea, pointing at his head as she and Paige continued to laugh. "You've got company."
Mako looks up and sees an octopus on his head. "Huh?" he said.
"It's so cute." said Paige as Joey starts laughing at Mako. Mako then grabs the octopus off his head and throws it back into the ocean. "Off with you!" shouted Mako.
"AAAAH!" screamed Joey and Tristan with tears running down their faces.
"No, don't!" said Tristan.
"I wanted to eat that." said Joey as he and Tristan stood over the ledge.
"You're demented." said Tristan.
"Are you telling me those two are here as duelists?" Mako asked Yugi, Tea and Paige.
"I'm Yugi Muto. Sorry about your fish." Yugi said, introducing himself.
"You? You're Yugi Muto?" Mako asked, surprised. "The only duelist to ever defeated Seto Kaiba?"
"He's the only Yugi Muto that I know." said Paige, looking at her brother.
"Ha, Ha! What a fine surprise!" exclaimed Mako, smiling at them. "It will be my very great honor to face you in a duel."
"Same here, Mako." said Yugi.
"I must apologize. I've been ungracious. If you are friends of Yugi Muto, please, come sit down. Eat your fill." Mako said to them.
"Thanks!" said Tristan and Joey.
"You are welcome." replied Mako.
"Hey! Feeding frenzy!" both boys shouted.
"Oh boy." said Paige as Joey and Tristan chomped down.
"Oh, man! Freaky fish guy really knows how to cook. Mm-mm!" Tristan exclaimed.
"Really good, huh?" Tea asked Yugi and Paige.
"Yeah." said Paige as Yugi nodded in agreement. Mako looks at the group with a smirk on his face.
"Wow, that was good." said Joey after he burped.
"Where'd you learn to cook like that?" asked Tea.
"I would love to have the recipe for this." said Paige.
"Ha Ha Ha. I have had to fend for myself since I was a tadpole, but it was my father who taught me how to fish and cook." explained Mako.
"So, what brings you here to the competition?" asked Yugi.
"I was raised on a fishing boat where I learned to love the sea, so if I win here, I would love a vessel of my own." said Mako. "Of course, I'll have to beat a few duelists first."
"Your own boat?" Tea asked in surprised. "How great would that be, living life out on the big blue sea?"
"I wouldn't do it." said Paige.
"Why not?" Tea asked her.
"I love the food, but I couldn't handle eating fish on a daily basis for lunch and dinner." she replied.
"Yes, the ocean is amazing, and we have shared a special bond since I was born." said Mako as he looks out to the sea. "I can tell when the sea is happy by the way it sparkles…and when it is angry by the shifting tides."
By the looks on their faces, they didn't understand what Mako was talking about. "Ah ha ha. Excuse me." said Mako with a hand behind his head. "I did not mean to be so serious."
"Oh, no. Don't apologize." said Tea.
"You saved our hides. We'd be starving without you." said Joey. "This has really been great. Thanks again."
"Leaving so soon, are you?" asked Mako, his expression changing.
"Nice meeting you, Mako." said Tea.
"Thanks for letting us join you." said Paige.
"Maybe we'll meet up in the competition." said Yugi.
"We certainly will…" said Mako as he picks up his spear. "Sooner than you think, my friend!"
"Huh?" said Yugi as he turns around and the spear hits the ground in front of him.
"I treated you to dinner." Mako said, once he stops laughing. "Perhaps you will honor me with a duel."
"He's nuts!" said Joey.
"No, but I am an expert fisherman, and you have taken my bait. Ah ha ha ha!" said Mako.
"What bait?" asked Tea.
"Why, the fish, of course. I laid it out and lured you three right in." Mako said. "But I never expected to catch Yugi Muto."
"Why do I feel like he's comparing my brother to fish?" asked Paige as both Tristan and Tea shrugs.
"Beats me." said Tea.
"Ah, forget this crazy chicken of the seam Yugi." said Joey.
"Can't we just give the guy back a few fish?" asked Tristan.
"I reeled in another duelist a short time ago, but he was not a worthy opponent." Mako tells them. "But a duel against you, Yugi, would be a true test."
Soon enough, the Millenium Puzzle starts glowing.
"YUGIOH!"
"Mako, Tsunami, I accept your challenge." said Yugi.
"Behold, Yugi Muto." said Mako as a dueling arena appears from the water. "We shall battle beside the majestic sea."
"This is going to be a long duel." said Paige as Yugi and Mako took to their side of the field.
"The playing field is equally split into 2 halves." Mako explained. "One half is land. The other is sea."
"And the stakes, Mako?" he asked.
"I wager 2-star chips on this match." said Mako.
"2-stars." repeated Yugi.
"Finally, an adversary of real merit." thought Mako. "How I have waited for this day."
"Now, let the battle begin!"
"Duel!" they both shouted.
"This should be some match." said Tea.
"Sink that soggy sucker, Yugi." said Joey.
"I'm curious to see how you will combat my mighty Denizens of the Deep." said Mako as he places a card on his side of the field.
"What's this?" Yugi asked as he sees a yellow light on the water side of the field. "His creature is underwater. How do I choose which card to play when I can't even see what I'm fighting?"
"This I don't like." said Joey.
"You said it, Joey." said Paige.
"The ocean conceals many things beneath its shifting surface." explained Mako.
"As long as that thing stays submerged, I can't attack." Yugi snarls.
"I promise he won't stay submerged for very long." said Mako.
"I have no idea what that thing is down there, so I'd better prepare for the worst with as strong a defense as possible." thought Yugi.
"Hmm…clearly this is Yugi's first encounter with sea-based duel monsters." thought Mako. "He will learn firsthand what a powerful ally the sea can be. it gives my sea creatures a field power bonus, and it conceals them, making their stealthy attacks even more lethal."
"Something's fishy." said Joey. "How could he fight what he can't see?"
"Beats me." said Tea.
"This is totally bogus!" said Tristan.
"My brother will find a way." said Paige. "He always does."
"HA HA HA HA HA! It seems that my ocean-based strategy has taken you by surprised, Yugi." Mako said, smugly.
"Maybe so…but I can still raise a strong defense." thought Yugi. "I call upon the Horn Imp!"
A brown imp monster with an attack strength of 1,300 appeared on the field. "Now, Fiend Kracken…ensnare him!" shouted Mako and tentacles rose from the water.
"My Imp!" shouted Yugi as the tentacles wrapped themselves around the Imp, lifting it off the ground. "Attack!"
The others gasped as they watched the scene unfold. "What is that?" asked Tea.
"Whatever it is, its bad news for Yugi." said Joey. "Oh, man. Yugi's Imp is done for."
"Fiend Kracken, end this now!" ordered Mako. Fiend Kracken squeezed the Horn Imp, destroying it on the field. "Well done, Kracken." said Mako, causing Yugi to snarl at him.
"Wow. And that was just his opening move." said Tea.
"I don't think I'll be eating squid from now on." said Paige as the Kracken pulls its tentacles back into the water.
"(Sighs) You're good, Mako." said Yugi. "A brilliant opening play."
"I am pleased you appreciate it, though I very much doubt your Imp did." replied Mako as Yugi's life points dropped to 1,740.
"Well, now I know what I'm up against." said Yugi.
"Yes, the mighty ocean commands respect, as do the creatures that inhabit it." said Mako.
"Maybe I can prepare an attack that will destroy his creatures, even though I can't. see them." thought Yugi as he takes a card from his hand. "Feral Imp!" Feral Imp, a green imp monster with its attack strength of 1,300 was placed on the field.
"My Feral Imp should dispense with Mako's monsters, no matter how deep they're hidden in the sea." thought Yugi.
"I am familiar with your Feral monster and its electrical attack, so for my next card, I play…" said Mako, causing Yugi to gasp. "My Giant Jellyfish."
The Giant Jellyfish was placed onto the field next to the Kracken, with its attack strength of 1,200. "Ha ha ha ha. Behold!" said Mako as he places a card face down and a shriek is heard from under the water.
"Uhh…I don't like the sound of that." said Yugi as Mako starts laughing.
"That is the battle cry of my creature." Mako said.
"It'll be crying, all right." said Yugi. "Once I combine my Feral Imp with the Magical Horn of the Unicorn!"
Electricity surrounded the Feral Imp as the Horn of the Unicorn appeared on its forehead, growing as its attack power increased by 700. "All right." said Joey.
"What?" asked Tea.
"Yugi can't see Mako's monsters, but he knows they're all underwater, and water conducts electricity." Joey explained.
"Looks like they'll be charred fish in this duel." said Paige.
"Oh! So they're vulnerable to the Feral Imp's electrical attack." said Tea. "Whoa! That is so smart!"
"Magic Lightning Attack!" shouted Yugi as the Feral Imp follows his order, sending its attack into the water.
"It's a fish fry!" exclaimed Joey. Mako's monsters can be heard from the water.
"That doesn't sound good." said Paige.
"But wait! What is this?" Yugi asked as he looks down at the life points to see that Mako's was still the same. "Nothing's happening. Mako still has all his life points."
"Your strategy has failed, Yugi." Mako said, laughing.
"How?" he asked as the Giant Jellyfish rose from the water.
"As a sea duelist, I am well aware that water conducts electricity, so I played my Giant Jellyfish." explained Mako. "It has the magical ability to absorb all electrical attacks, protecting all of my ocean creatures."
Yugi growled as the Jellyfish screeched back into the water. "And now it's time for my counterattack." said Mako. "Fiend Kracken, crush his Feral Imp!"
The Kracken's tentacles rose out of the water again and grabs ahold of Yugi's Feral Imp, lifting it off the ground. "Crush him now!" ordered Mako and the Fiend Kracken crushes the Imp.
"Ha ha ha! Did you enjoy my Kracken's embrace?" Mako asked Yugi as Yugi's life points dropped to 1,480.
"I've never dueled against creatures like these before." thought Yugi. "It feels as if I'm battling Mako's sea monsters and the awesome power of the ocean itself."
"Do any of your cards have the power to stand against my ocean pets?" asked Mako.
"I have the power of…Silver Fang…" said Yugi as he places a Wolf monster card with its attack power of 1,200. "And I'll combine him with the magic of the full moon to double his ferocity."
Silver Fang appears on the field, howling at the moon that came with him. "Ferocious indeed." said Mako, laughing at his monsters. "But the moon also controls the tides, causing them to rise…allowing me to unleash my next creature. Arise, Mighty Kairyushin!"
"(Grunts) What's this?" asked Yugi.
Out from the water, a blue serpent roared. "Whoa, that is one big fish!" said Joey.
"More like one big oar fish!" said Paige.
"Behold, the Colossal Kairyushin!" yelled Mako. "A creature so enormous, that when he rises up from the ocean depths, he creates his own tidal wave!" Water rose up behind the Colossal Kairyushin.
"What a beast!" exclaimed Yugi.
"Your wolf is brave, Yugi, but he will not stand before my Kairyushin's tidal attack."
The Kairyushin roars as it attacks Silver Fang. "No! Silver Fang!" shouted Yugi as his monster was destroyed.
"Gone…but my Kairyushin's tidal attack did more than simply wash your wolf cub away." said Mako.
"What?" questioned Yugi.
"It considerably altered our playing field."
"Huh! My land!" said Yugi, seeing his side of the field. "Kairyushin's attack has nearly washed away my entire land-based playing field!"
Mako laughs at Yugi's predicament. "You should consider yourself lucky, Yugi. In my previous duels, when Kairyushin attacks, absolutely nothing is left standing in its wake." said Mako. "I think it was quite considerate of my pet to leave you a little patch of dirt to stand on, don't you? Or does it make you uneasy to be surrounded on all sides by the sea?"
Yugi glares at Mako as he continues. "All men give pause before the savage power of the mighty ocean…" said Mako. "Even the greatest of fisherman."
"You mean your father." said Yugi.
"My father was a great fisherman." said Mako as he placed his hand down on the table. "He taught me my love of the sea…but one day, the sea…took him."
[Flashback]
"I loved going out on the boat with my father, just the two of us and the big, beautiful ocean, never suspecting that the sea would turn on us." explained Mako.
Out on the boat with seagulls flying overhead, Mako and his father were holding a rope.
"Look, Mako. There's a storm blowing in." said his father.
"A big one?" asked young Mako.
"Maybe. I've learned to never take chances with the sea." his father replied.
"Oh." Mako said, nodding. Suddenly dark storm clouds moved in.
"And Father was right." said Mako. "Suddenly, the calm, friendly sea turned into a raging maelstrom. it pitched our boat as if it were a toy."
"Ah, Father! I can't hold on!" Young Mako called out.
"It's ok, Mako." said his father as a huge tidal wave made its way to the boat. He then ties Mako to the mast. "There. I've tied you down. You'll be safe here, son. I promise." Mako's father tells him.
"Dad, look out!" said Mako.
"Aaaah!" they both shouted and the tidal wave hits the boat.
[Flashback ends]
"When the storm finally died out, our little boat had washed ashore. My father was right. I had been perfectly safe." said Mako. "But because he had stopped to tie me down, he had no time to secure himself to the mast! I thought I had lost him forever, but then I noticed that out lifeboat was missing. I know my father is alive…so I will win this contest, buy a ship, and search the 7 seas until I find him! That is why I duel, Yugi. That is why I must win and you must lose."
"I understand, Mako, believe me. But I still can't let you win." said Yugi. His statement caused Mako to growl.
"(Snarls) Ha!"
"Oh, wow." said Tea and Paige.
"Mako duels for his dad like Yugi duels for his grandpa." said Joey.
"Whoa, this is too intense!" said Tristan.
"With so little land left to me, I've really gotta make this play count." thought Yugi. "I need something that will help me turn the tide…something like this card."
"Giant Soldier of Stone!" shouted Yugi as he places the card down. Out on the field, Giant Soldier of Stone appears. "You make have shrunk my battlefield down to an island, Mako, but my Stone Soldier gets a field power bonus." said Yugi as the Stone Soldier's attack points increased from 1,300 to 1,690.
"Your massive monster can barely fit on that little rock, let alone do battle with my undersea attack force." Mako said, mocking Yugi, who then snarls. "And he is surrounded on all sides by the ocean, making him easy prey for…Great White Terror!"
Mako places down a card of a Great White Shark, with an attack strength of 1,600. Great White Terror appears on the field and jumps out of the water. "This savage shark will lead my other sea creatures in an all-out ocean onslaught!" he then exclaims.
"Man, Yugi's guys is outnumbered 3 to 1." said Joey. "His Stone Soldier's about to become fish food!"
"I wouldn't be sure if I were you, Joey." said Paige.
"Oh."
"Yugi has a plan; I know he does." she tells him.
"This is it, Yugi." said Mako. "It's over, but you played honorably."
"You have been a fair and noble opponent, too, Mako, but I also duel with the fate of a loved one at stake…." said Yugi in agreement, causing Mako's eyes to widen. "And I can't afford to lose."
He then switches his Stone Soldier. "I switch my Stone Soldier into Attack Mode!" he said and the Stone Soldier stands up.
"Attack mode?" questioned Mako, looking up at the Stone Soldier. "But why? He cannot attack my sea monsters while they are underwater."
"But his target isn't your sea monsters." said Yugi. "I'm having him attack a card I put on the field myself."
As Yugi points up, the Stone Soldier withdrew one of its swords from its chest. "The moon!"
"No!" screamed Mako as he looks up.
"Now, Stone Soldier! Destroy the moon!" ordered Yugi and the Stone Soldier pierced its sword through the moon. Mako covered his eyes and then sees pieces of the moon falling into the ocean.
"What's happening!?" asked Mako, freaking out and looks at the ocean. "The tide…it's going out! But how?"
"As you yourself said before, Mako, it is the moon that controls the ocean's tides…" said Yugi. "It's ebb and its flow. So I ordered my Stone Soldier to obliterate the moon, causing the ocean's tides to reverse and recede."
"AAAAAAH!" screamed Mako.
"My Stone Soldier has beached all your sea monsters. You have no ocean left." Yugi explained.
"No…my precious fish." said Mako.
"And now I'll deliver the final blow." he said, taking a card out of his hand. "I combine my Curse of Dragon card with the magic of the Burning Land card to wipe out your remaining life points."
Curse of Dragon appears on the field. "Burning Land Attack!" shouted Yugi and the Dragon shoots all its fire onto the land, burning the creatures. "And that takes your life points down to zero."
"RRRR-AAAAAH! NO!" bellowed Mako as all of his life points dropped to zero.
"Ha ha ha! Way to go, Yugi!" shouted Tea and Paige.
"Yeah!"
"Yes!" Both Tristan and Joey were flexing their muscles with weird looking grins on their faces. "Destroying your own moon card was a brilliant and unexpected move, Yugi." said Mako as he sighs in defeat. "Ha ha. What a grand duel. I salute you, my friend."
"This victory was not easily won, Mako." said Yugi. "You're a great duelist yourself."
"I am down to one-star chip, but I will start over again…." said Mako.
"And I bet you'll do fine." said Yugi.
"You'd win that wager." said Mako as he and Yugi grabbed hands. "Ha!"
"You know, I can't help but like that Mako." said Tea. "He's such a great guy and all. I hope he finds his father someday."
"Me too." said Paige. Suddenly Mako's stomach starts grumbling, causing Mako to laugh.
"My friend, dueling you is hungry work. Time for Mako to fish again!" he said and dives into the ocean. "Farewell!"
"Bye Mako." said Tea.
"Wish he'd bring us some fish." said Tristan.
"We'd have to duel him again." said Yugi and everyone laughs.
"I'm not gonna duel him just to get some fish." said Paige.
"Ah, forget about it." said Joey as they start walking away. "But guys, I am getting seriously hungry."
"Not a problem. We've still got my great outdoor survival guide." said Tristan.
"No way!" said Tea.
"Go ahead, Tristan. Eat all the pages you like." said Joey, causing them all to laugh.
