Kacchan made him rest at the first sign of daybreak. Izuku had wanted to head out, but Kacchan had shoved him back down to the ground with a hard stare.
"Go to sleep nerd." He said.
Izuku was out the next second in a dreamless bliss. When he finally woke up, it was Kacchan's angry yells outside of the shop. Izuku sat up to look around the room, his brain still groggy to see that he was the only one inside.
Something caught his eye next to him, and he found his water bottle and a protein bar. A note written on a scrap of paper had the threatening message to 'eat it or else.' Izuku chuckled, hearing Kacchan's voice in his head as he read it.
Outside there was cheering from the girls look outside the window while taking a bite of his food.
From the second floor, Izuku could see the destruction of the whole block they were on. No one was left, which left Kacchan right in the middle of the destruction as he taught the girls how to fend off an attacker.
Uraraka jumped in a victory that she had succeeded in flipping Kacchan over her shoulder. Kacchan stood back up from the ground dusting off the dirt from his jeans. Izuku chucked at the site. Only Kaccchan could look irritated at a girl half his size, knocking him down and proud that he had taught her to do it.
Kacchan called Chieko over to try next, but she shook her head, already backing away from the scene.
"Get back here, Tag along! You can't avoid me forever!" He yelled.
"Watch me!" She yelled back before running back inside the shop.
Izuku had to admit Kacchan had the right idea by teaching the girls at least basic self-defense. It may not work for every villain, but it would give them a fighting chance. Izuku also needed to start his own training if he wanted to take control of his new quirk.
An indescribable feeling fell over Izuku as he watched Uraraka speak with Kacchan. The distance muffled their voices as they stood too close to each other. Their interaction was serious as Kacchan looked to be explaining something to her. They seemed to get along well, way better than then he and Kacchan. That reminded Izuku that Uraraka had planned to ask Kacchan to leave with her.
Or had she already asked?
Was that was they were talking about now?
Uraraka's father sat off to the side in a lawn chair they must have found lying around, her mom standing next to him. They watched the two teens pull away to start their training back up. Their smiles were genuine, and they didn't seem bothered by Kacchan's crude way of speaking. It was all so picturesque, as if Kacchan fit right in with the Uraraka family.
His heart pounded in his ears as he watched them, his fist clenched, and Izuku felt as if he had too much energy inside him. Like he wanted to run to burn some of it off.
He missed his morning runs with All Might. They didn't speak much during that time; All Might riding along in his Segway, keeping pace with Izuku. It was the only time that his mind stopped. In those moments, his brain wasn't racing a mile a minute; it was blank. No panic. No worry, No overthinking or doubts. No thoughts of Kacchan. It was only the pounding of his feet against concrete, the burn of his lungs with every breath he took. He was present and clear-headed, and euphoric.
Izuku wondered if it would still feel the same without All Might at his side.
"Oh you finally woke up." Chieko's voice reached broke through Izuku's wandering thoughts. He turned to find the girl watching him from the doorway; her face made it obvious she was curious, but she didn't ask.
"Yeah, sorry if you were waiting for me." He said as he finished the forgotten protein bar.
Chieko looked much better than before, with her face cleaned up and her hair tied back in a loose braid. He wasn't sure if it was the Uraraka family or Kacchan, but someone must have found her some clothes to wear. She had on the jacket he gave her over a clean blue t-shirt tucked into a pair of jeans that were an inch too short for her.
"You didn't ant to learn how to defend yourself?" Izuku asked as he pointed out the window.
Chieko rubbed her arm, a look of guilt on her face as she moved to stand next to Izuku, staring down at the others with him.
They watched as Uraraka lifted a piece of concrete over her head like it was nothing and swung it at Kacchan. The blonde dodged up with a blast from his quirk and landed on the now floating piece of concrete. Kacchan smirked down at her from the higher ground, and Izuku's mind went into overdrive. He analyzed the new information, theorizing what type of quirk the girl may have. There was no strain from Uraraka as she lifted another piece. Again, his mind went over the possibilities.
"That was weak pink cheeks! You can do better than that!" Kacchan taunted. He avoided the other concrete rock she threw by inches. Izuku's palms itched for his notebook and pen. What he wouldn't give to be able to write down the strengths and flaws to her quirk. The two pieces were in the air before Uraraka released her quirk, and both slabs crashed to the ground. Uraraka looked sick; her face a pale green as she took a rest. Kacchan didn't stop, though, as he went through maneuvering through the air with his quirk. He looked free of any worry, his usual smirk wide on his face. Kacchan was in his element, and Izuku leaned against the window frame, glad to see his friend happy for now.
"I can't do that." Chieko said.
Izuku jumped, startled when Chieko talked. He felt his cheeks grow hot embarrassed that he had forgotten about her. Izuku coughed, going back to his earlier thoughts of Uraraka's quirk. He had already guessed it to be some kind of floating quirk. It was either some kind of telekinesis or anti-gravity. He was leaning towards the anti-gravity since she had to throw the items at Kacchan to make them move.
He didn't understand why Chieko didn't want to join. Izuku would have been down there himself if it wasn't for his arm, but it seemed Chieko refused to join.
"Even if your quirk isn't strong there's always a way to use it, or you could learn some basic self defense at least." He said.
"But I don't want to fight." She said. She jutted her bottom lip in a pout; her brows pinched close together. She was soft-natured; Izuku could see that now. Chieko was not made for fighting. She never asked about anyone's quirk. Never offered up what her own quirk was as if she was avoiding the topic altogether. Was it possible that she really was quirkless and was too embarrassed to say anything?
Even if it were true, and Izuku hated to admit it, but in this new world, Chieko would need to fight if she expected to survive.
"Miyahara, even if you don't want to fight, you may have to fight anyways. Kacchan or I may not be there to save you next time." He said.
He hated the words the moment they came out of his mouth. The hurt on Chieko's face weighed heavy in Izuku's chest as she ran out of the room without a word to him. Izuku wished he could tell her that he would always save her. That he could protect her with a smile on his face, but they both had to face the hard truth. Izuku couldn't promise her that. He couldn't promise anyone that, not anymore.
The best he could do was get her to the safety area where real heroes could protect her. That was the best he could hope for.
Later, Izuku finished packing and was ready to go. He stepped out of the room only to run into Kacchan coming out of the restroom, his hair wet from the shower he had taken.
"You ready to head out?" Kacchan asked.
Izuku shifted in his stance as he found himself unable to look at the blonde.
"Yeah...Did Uraraka get a chance to speak with you yet?" Izuku asked.
Kacchan used the small towel he had to dry his hair as he looked at Izuku. The calculated stare only made Izuku sweat in place. The cracks in the ceiling more interesting than to risk meeting eyes with Kacchan.
"About what?" Kacchan asked.
Did that mean she didn't ask him? Had she changed her mind? Izuku ignored the flutters in his gut at the chance that she hadn't.
"She had mentioned to me, that she would ask you to join them to go to U.A." Izuku said.
"Oh, that. Yeah she asked me." Kacchan said.
Izuku waited for Kacchan to tell him what he had said, but the boy didn't say anything more as he walked passed Izuku. Izuku followed him back into the room, the flutters going wild. As Kacchan packed his things, he kept Izuku teetering on the edge in suspense. Izuku almost believed he was doing this on purpose.
" ...what did you say?" Izuku asked.
His stuttering had returned. There was both a feeling of hope and dread to know if Kacchan would be leaving with the Uraraka family.
"U.A. would be a better place for me. Places to train and heroes to teach me how to be even better than I already am." Kacchan put on one of his shoes as Izuku's flutters began to die down into a dull ache, but Kacchan continued.
"Pink cheeks isn't horrible either, she's not weak and she has decent control of her quirk. She'd be pretty useful in a fight." He said.
Izuku's face grew hot in shame. Uraraka was useful, unlike himself. She didn't fall apart when she used her quirk. With Kacchan to teach her and more practice, Izuku was sure she could handle herself in a fight. There was no reason Kacchan wouldn't accept their offer. It was only logical that he would pick the best option.
Kacchan finished putting on his shoes and put on his pack, taking one last look around without a word to Izuku. The room was empty now that everyone's things were removed. Kacchan walked past Izuku's slouched form and stopped the doorway, but Izuku didn't turn to him. Instead, he closed his eyes, waiting for Kacchan to tell him he had chosen to leave him, but when he didn't say anything, Izuku gave in.
"So you're going with them." Izuku's question came out as more of a statement. His voice quiet and resigned, and he hated the way it made him sound so pathetic as his throat tightened.
"No, you idiot now lets go. Chieko's waiting for us outside." Kacchan said.
He didn't wait for Izuku, who had turned to look at Kacchan's retreating form, his mouth wide open. The flutters had returned full force as he chased after Kacchan.
Izuku said goodbye to the Uraraka family, who had decided to head out once Uararaka had time to rest. Her mother had made a small pack for Chieko with a few extra bottles of water they had found in the shop.
"You all be safe getting to the hospital." Mrs. Uraraka said, hugging Chieko goodbye. "And you keep an eye on Miyahara okay."
Izuku smiled, his mood much lighter as he stood next to Kacchan on the street as he nodded, promising to be safe.
"Thank you for the clothes Mrs Uraraka. You guys be safe too okay." Chieko said.
"Don't worry I'll protect them." Uraraka said.
Izuku noticed the determination set to her gaze; her fist curled as if ready to take on anything that came their way. He wondered what had changed from the girl last night who had thought herself too weak to protect them.
Kacchan nodded towards Uraraka in approval. "You put those new moves I taught you to good use you hear. And if anyone tries to mess with you, then you show them why the'll live to regret it."
"Thanks Bakugou for everything, and hey maybe I'll see you guys later at U.A." Uraraka said.
The girls hugged goodbye as the boys said their goodbyes to Mr. Uraraka.
"You two behave yourselves and take care of your mom when you find her alright. I'm sure I'll see you three again soon." Mr. Uraraka said.
"We will." Izuku smiled, and with a wave their the trio went their separate ways.
They reached the hospital late afternoon, but they didn't get in as they had hoped. Instead, they found the entrance blocked by the rows of heroes standing guard and only one entry to get in or out. A line took up most of the first block, so they got in line before it got any longer.
As they waited, Izuku looked around at the heroes; most were newbies or sidekicks, their uniforms torn from earlier fights. But even as they were helping civilians enter the building, they seemed to have a suspicious look at each person that passed entered.
They checked the bags of every person while questioning them to decide if they could enter. Things like their intentions, quirk, and if they had any I.D.
The hero with the small tablet would use that information to search their criminal records and quirk registration. Izuku wasn't sure how they could pull them up without the internet, but he guessed they might have had other means to pull records.
As they waited, they watched as some were turned away, making the crowd angsty. Izuku didn't know the requirements for admittance, but another layer of unrest would settle over everyone else's shoulders with every person they turned away.
"They're not following any set requirements. It seems more like they decide on if they like you or not." Kacchan said.
Izuku hated to admit it, but the more they observed, the more they seemed biased on who entered and who didn't.
Izuku only grew more nervous. Not only was his new quirk not registered, but Kacchan had also seen him use it. He didn't know if he should be honest about his recently acquired quirk in the hopes they would pass him off as a late bloomer or if that would make him suspicious enough to turn away.
His body coiled tight with those nerves but had no way to release the tension as they waited. He wished Chieko would talk to him, her chatter had a way of distracting him and making the time pass by, but she had been silent for most of the trip. He wondered if she was still upset about earlier, but she didn't look mad. Instead, she was biting on the inside of her cheek, focused only on the heroes.
"Miyahara are you okay? You're not still upset about earlier today are you?" Izuku asked, but she didn't seem to hear him, her eyes locked on the person with the tablet.
Kacchan seemed to pick up on the fact that something was up, but he didn't say anything watching from behind the two, arms stuffed in the pocket of his jeans
"Miyahara?" Izuku said, and Chieko finally turned to him in surprise.
"Are you okay?" He asked again.
"Oh, yeah I'm fine." Chieko said. She smiled, but she looked distracted as she looked back at the heroes. She felt closed off to the boys with her arms crossed over her chest and as she faced away from either boy.
"You ain't acting like you're alright." Kacchan called her out.
Chieko turned back to glare at him, and Izuku expected them to start bickering again. He mentally prepared to separate them, but she didn't say anything as she turned away, refusing to at t.
Neither boy pushed after that.
The sun was low in the sky when they finally reached the entrance. But, again, the same heroes stopped them, their stares hard and suspicious.
"Where are your parents?" The one in front said, leading the questions. He was of average height; his a hunter green torn and stained with a cracked shoulder guard. There were two cut bamboo stalks on his back, and his darker blonde hair was dirty and matted.
Kacchan and Chieko both shrugged together. Izuku knew why Kacchan didn't want to say it aloud, but he wondered why she hadn't mentioned her foster parents.
"I came here hoping to find my mom." Izuku offered.
During their questioning, the hero took their packs, dumping them on the floor as a way to search them. Kacchan gritted his teeth but held back from saying anything, which Izuku was grateful for.
The other hero with the tablet was pulling up their records, her blue leotard stained with blood and ripped down one side showing clear bruising.
They asked for I.D.s, but Katsuki was the only one who had any, and they cleared him to go in soon after.
"You two what are your names and we'll do a quick background check." The one in green ordered as he pointed at Izuku and Chieko.
Kacchan stood off to the side, reorganizing their packs after they had thrown everything back. Izuku could hear him grumbling from where he stood, but neither hero acknowledge it.
"My names Izuku Midoriya and this is Chieko Miyahara." Izuku offered. He attempted a smile, but neither hero reacted; their faces deadpanned as they began to search both names.
"Takeshita come here." The female hero said.
Takeshita walked over to the hero holding the tablet as they began to speak in low voices. Izuku shifted, unsure if this was a good sign as the female hero pointed at the tablet. The two heroes then looked up at them, and Izuku knew this wasn't in their favor.
Whatever they found must have set them on edge because they moved towards them. Chieko and Izuku took a step back at the threatening stance. Izuku wasn't sure what was happening, but the anxiety was setting off his alarm bells. The heroes moved with a cautious step as if they were two seconds away from attacking him and his friend. Izuku lifted his hands as a sign of surrender, and Chieko, noticing, followed his lead.
"What's the big idea!" Kacchan yelled. He didn't raise his hands as Izuku had, but instead, his palms were up as if he was ready to fight back at a moment's notice.
"You two are coming with us." Takeshita said.
"Wait, there's gotta be some kind of misunderstanding." Chieko said. She took another step back, and the female hero's blue hair grew, shooting out to wrap around Chieko's body, tying her arms to her side.
"Don't even think of running away." The unnamed hero said.
Izuku reached for Chieko when she cried out in surprise. Everything was escalating too fast, but he wasn't even sure why they were being targeted like this.
"Why are you doing this?" Izuku asked.
He didn't get a chance to reach Chieko before the same hair bound wrist together. The angry cry from Kacchan signaling that they had done the same to him.
"You two are people of interest so, you'll be coming with us." Takeshita said.
They were lead away from the front and instead taken through a side door of the hospital. They were lead down the hallways, but it had no civilians on this side of the wing. The farther they went in, the more and more police and heroes seemed to appear. Izuku guessed this was their base of operations, but where were they taking them?
Chieko looked pale, so even with his wrists tied and his broken arm aching, he drew as close to her as he was able. Kacchan followed close enough to scrape the back of their feet, barking out insults at anyone that drew too close to them.
They placed them in an empty room and released them from the hair restraints, only to be replaced by suppression cuffs.
As the door closed behind them, they could hear the distinct click of the lock, leaving them alone in the room to wait.
"I'm sorry you two." Chieko said. Her voice was tight, eyes bright with unshed tears.
"What do you have to be sorry about Chieko, do you know whats happening?" Izuku asked. Kacchan wasn't listening to either, choosing to let out his frustrations on the locked doors.
" God. Damnit. All. To. Hell!" He yelled out at whoever was listening, emphasizing each word with a well-placed bang.
"It's probably because of my parents." She admitted.
The way she shook in placed reminded Izuku of a scared kitten. Eyes broad, taking up most of her face, nose red and lip trembling.
"My parents are villains." She confessed. "But I swear I thought the worst that would happen was they'd turn me away!"
Chieko looked so desperate as she tried to explain herself, but Izuku didn't blame her. Even if it did explain some of the avoidance, she had of speaking about her past. He didn't think her parents would warrant this kind of extreme reaction. It felt like there was more to their actions, but Izuku tried to reason with himself. These people were heroes, not villains. He was sure this would all be cleared up once they talked.
"Hey, I'm sure once we talked this over with them, it all be cleared up." Izuku said.
Kacchan snorted, clearly not as optimistic as Izuku was trying to be.
"Sure Deku, you keep telling yourself that." He said.
Izuku looked around the room from the corner of his eyes; overall, the room was sparse of any furniture. So he motioned Chieko to move and sit in one of the corners. He then sat down next to her to rest.
"So while we wait tell me what they know, who are your parents?" He asked.
"They were just small time villains. Petty thievery and break ins. They got caught when I was around seven and I was placed with a foster family. I haven't heard from them since." She said.
"Are they still locked up?" He asked.
Chieko shrugged; she didn't know what they were doing now. But she pulled away from the conversation, and Izuku felt she didn't want him to pry any further than this.
"Do you think they're going to turn me away after?" She asked.
She didn't try to show it, but there was fear at the idea of being on her own. Izuku leaned his shoulder into hers to reassure her.
"Don't worry, I'm sure that won't happen, but either way we'll figure things out as long as we stick together." He said.
"But we just met. I bet if you told them that, they'd let you in without me." She said. There was a confused look on her face; her brows titled down.
Izuku shook his head; he was surprised that she would think they'd do that to her. Even though they had only known each other for a short time, they had traveled together and gotten to know each other.
"Even if we just met we're friends now right? We have to stick together." Izuku said.
She didn't respond right away as she stared at him for a moment. "Thank you."
Izuku nodded, satisfied she was feeling better, but before he could say any more, the door opened, making Kacchan move back to stand over the two of them.
Two people walked in, one a man with a button-up beige trench coat that had seen better days and an older man who looked much better off. His graying hair slicked back and in a relatively clean black suit.
The man in the trench coat introduced himself and his companion. He was friendly, his face open and smiling, which put Izuku at ease.
"Hello, my name is Detective Tsukauchi and this here is Mr. Inazuma with the Hero Public Safety Commission." He said.
Kacchan didn't say anything but give both men a death stare as a greeting, and Chieko had gone mute, her earlier nervousness returning. Then, finally, Izuku took the initiative to stand up to greet them, but Kacchan didn't move from his spot.
Izuku looked at the blonde to see if he'd move, but he never looked back at Izuku; his stare focused on the two adults, so Izuku greeted them from over Kacchan's shoulder.
"I hope we can clear up whatever misunderstanding you have of us, we were just hoping to seek shelter and hopefully confirm if my mom was here." Izuku said.
The Detective scratched the back of his head, embarrassed with the situation.
"I'm sorry about all this, my men and the heroes here are still on edge. I had put out a notice so that I could speak with you should you come this safety zone, they were not supposed to be so rough about it." He explained.
Izuku didn't know why they would have been looking for him unless it had something to do with All Might. However, he wasn't sure if they could be trusted, so it was best to avoid bringing the topic up until he knew more.
"It's fine as long as we're not in trouble?" He asked.
"No, no one is in trouble. I just needed to speak with you for a moment, and Mr. Inazuma here would like to have a private discussion with Ms. Miyahara so he'll be leading her to another room." The Detective said.
Mr. Inazuma stepped past the Detective, and there was a moment when the two men made eye contact with each other. Izuku felt there was a level of dislike between them, but he couldn't decide if he was overthinking things or not.
The older man motioned for Chieko to follow him and Chieko stood hesitating in place as she glanced towards Izuku.
Izuku smiled back at her to show he wasn't worried; if it was only to talk, then he didn't see the problem. On the other hand, Kacchan didn't look like he liked the idea, the sound of his teeth grinding filling the air, and Izuku worried he would explode any second, but Kacchan didn't say anything.
"It's okay Chieko, just go speak with him and I promise we'll see each other soon." He said.
"Okay..." She moved past the boys, her hands clenched tight together as Mr. Inazuma removed the suppressor cuffs from her hands. Her thank you was meek, but the older man didn't say anything as he motioned her towards the door. Chieko turned to glance one last time at the boys before she left.
Detective Tsukauchi removed the suppressors off of the boy's wrists and motioned to an officer that had appeared at the door. "We already have accommodations made for you all. So if you would Mr. Bakugou go with Officer Ito, he can take you there to get cleaned up while I speak with Mr. Midoriya."
"Like hell I will." Kacchan responded, making no motion to move from where he stood.
The other man didn't seem to expect Kacchan's outburst as he looked put off at what to say.
Izuku sighed and tapped Kacchan's shoulder before pushing past him, although the boy refused to move, so Izuku had to maneuver around him to get through.
"It's alright sir, I would prefer Kacchan to be here for anything you have to say." Izuku said.
The man cleared his throat and nodded. "Alright then, let's go somewhere else to sit and talk."
Izuku allowed Kacchan to walk ahead of him, and as they passed the Detective, Kacchan gave the older man a smug grin. Izuku shook his head at his antics, almost apologizing to the adult, but instead choosing to let Kacchan have his way.
They walked down another hallway, the passerby of officers giving them curious looks. The lack of civilians or Heroes in this area meant it must have been the wing that housed most police officers.
They entered a small waiting room that had some worn chairs and a table. There was no one inside the area, and the Detective advised Office Ito to stand guard for privacy.
"Go ahead and take a seat. Do either of you want something to drink or eat?" He asked.
Izuku's stomach growled at the sound of food, and it helped break some of the tension in the room as the Detective smiled. Then, pulling out some instant ramen to make for them. "I'll take that as a yes."
"So what did you want?" Kacchan asked.
The man set the two bowls in front of each boy, and although Izuku dug into the first food he had in a while, Kacchan didn't even glance at it, waiting for the other man to state his intentions.
"I wanted to talk to Midoriya about All Might." He said.
Izuku coughed as the food seemed to go down the wrong tube at the request of Detective Tsukauchi. He knew there was a chance he would ask about this, but it still surprised him all the same.
"Wha..what about All Might?" He asked.
Tsukauchi pulled out his phone, searching for something before showing it to the two boys. There it showed the Detective standing with All Might in his true form, smiling at the camera. Although Izuku couldn't see enough in the photo, they seemed to be celebrating something.
"Don't be alarmed, I was close friends with All Might and he had told me a lot about you Midoriya." He gave Izuku a meaningful stare emphasizing the lot, and Izuku understood that he means All for One.
"I already know everything so get to the part where you tell us what you want with Deku." Kacchan interrupted, never one to be left out and unwilling to talk in circles. Izuku nodded at Tsukauchi's surprised look.
"I'm sure you saw the same recording we did..." Izuku couldn't say it out loud, but the somber look on the Detective let him know he knew what he was referring to. "After that I just couldn't keep it from Kacchan so I told him the truth after he saw me use All for One."
There was a sigh of relief from Tsukauchi as he sat back in his chair. It was as if an enormous weight had lifted off his shoulders as he looked at Midooriya.
"So then he was able to pass All for One to you, it didn't die with him." He said.
"Lot good it does, his shattered arm there is the result of using that quirk." Kacchan put in his two centers as he started to eat his ramen, satisfied now that he knew what all this was about.
Izuku looked down at his splinted arm. "I still have no idea how to use it, and with All Might...I don't know where to start."
The man nodded in understanding. "I can't say I know how to help you on this, but there is space here to practice and get familiar with your new quirk. I hope you understand that All Might had high hopes for you and I trust he chose the right person to take his place as the New Symbol of Peace when the time comes."
The ramen sat heavy in his stomach as the reality of what was expected of him settled in. Even though he knew the other man had said those words to reassure him, it only reminded Izuku how much he believed All Might had made the wrong choice.
Izuku could barely protect himself and Kacchan; how was he expected to protect the rest of Japan when he wasn't half the man All Might had been.
"What about the girl, what did that guy want with her?" Kacchan didn't beat around the bush, and Izuku was glad for that. He wanted to know as well, curious and worried for their new friend.
"Oh, Mr. Inazuma wants to ask for her assistance, he thinks her quirk could be a good asset to the Heroes and we could use the help." He said.
Izuku perked up to the mention of her quirk, his curious nature taking over. "Her quirk?"
Tsukauchi paused as if unsure how to answer before admitting what he knew. "Yes...Ms. Miyahara has a healing quirk."
He must have looked surprised because Tsukauchi continued.
"Look, I don't have to say how bad things are right now, some of the other safety areas went down and the rest we lost contact with recently." Tsukauchi pinched the bridge of his nose; they were only on the third day since the attack, and already Izuku could see it was taking a toll on him.
"Mr. Inazuma is the one that is managing what is left of the heroes in this area, but we're short staff and cutoff for from help so he's offering Ms. Chieko the chance to earn her keep by healing any of our injured heroes." He said.
What he said made sense with everything that's happened. Those that could need to do their part to help keep everyone else alive and the heroes were the ones doing their best to keep this area secure.
Izuku hoped Chieko would accept the deal, and they would see her soon then. "I don't mind helping as well in any way I can."
Kacchan didn't comment, but Izuku was sure he would assist in any way needed.
"Thank you Midoriya, we can always use an extra pair of hands." He said.
He glanced down at Izuku's injured arm and called for Officer Ito to call a doctor. As they finished their meal, the medic that came in looked over Izuku's broken arm. His quirk worked as an x-ray as he pointed out the breaks stating the splint they had made had done an excellent job of keeping the bones from shifting around.
Kacchan huffed with pride, the news no doubt soothing some of his bruised ego, and Izuku couldn't find it in him to take that away from him. He preferred a confident Kacchan any day and would make it his mission to make sure his friend returned to his usual cocky self, though minus the bullying.
The medic replaced the splint with a cast and left the boys with a final warning to Izuku not to use it for any reason for the next few months until it was fully healed. Then, after he was sure Izuku promised to be careful, he left the room.
The Detective stood up when the boys finished eating, and Tsukauchi took them to their accommodations, which was more of an open-spaced lobby crammed completely with people taking shelter.
"This is where you will stay for now, unfortunately any other rooms are being occupied by priority." He called for Officer Ito, who had been following them at a distance. "If you need anything let officer Ito or myself know. I'll see if I can get a doctor to see you about your arm soon."
Kacchan nodded as he plopped himself down on the empty cot. Izuku noticed there were only two. "Ummm...I was hoping to see if my mom was here?"
Officer Ito pulled out a small tablet as he looked to Izuku. "What's her name and I can check our records to see if she came by."
"Inko Midoriya." He said. Officer Ito began looking through their roaster. Officer Ito was a younger man, hair a dark brown, but he had a relaxed smile on his face, and Izuku hoped they would have good news.
"Where's the Tag Along going to stay." Kacchan asked.
Detective Tsukauchi looked confused, so Izuku took it upon himself to translate.
"He means Miyahara, where will she be staying?" He asked.
Detective Tsukauchi looked unsure, but before he could comment, Office Ito interrupted. "I think I found her."
Both boys perked up at the news; Izuku felt like his heart would burst; she was here, which meant she was alive.
"Is she okay? Can I see her?" He asked.
Office Ito seemed to shrug, looking up and around them as if he could point her out. "I'm sorry kid, we don't keep track of everyone so she can either be here in the lobby or one of the hundreds of rooms, but I'll spread the word and see if we can locate her."
After giving them a description, Izuku thanked the officer before sitting down on the other empty cot. Detective Tsukauchi offered to show them the training grounds tomorrow and suggested the boys rest before leaving as well.
"Do you think my mom's okay?" Izuku asked.
Kacchan had propped back against his cot, eyes closed with his arms behind his head to make up for the lack of a pillow. "I'm sure auntie is fine, she may be a cry baby like you, but she's tough in her own way."
Izuku tried to use his pack as a pillow, but the metallic ridges of the zipper scratched at his cheek. He wanted to make it work, but after a few tries, he gave up as he turned on his side towards Kacchan, careful of his injured arm.
"Mr. Tsukauchi didn't tell us about Miyahara." Kacchan said.
"I'm sure she's fine, maybe they have her closer to the heroes in case they need her." Izuku yawned. Even though it was still early evening, the walk here had been long and stressful, so he wanted nothing more at this point but to close his eyes. "Maybe we can ask Mr. Tsukauchi about seeing her tomorrow."
Kacchan looked like he had already fallen asleep, but he did seem to acknowledge Izuku with a quiet hum, Izuku right behind him as he drifted into a restless sleep.
