Season Six Episode Nine
New History
"What are you still doing on the couch," Jackson wondered.
"I'm sick, I called in," Kat coughed.
"Well stay away from me," Jackson scrunched his nose.
"What a good way to treat your friend."
"I can't risk getting sick."
"Move then big baby," Kat threw the blanket over her shoulder and went into the kitchen.
"I think you need to like quarantine in your room or something," Jackson teased.
"And I think you should grow a brain," Kat retorted.
"I have a M.D.," Jackson mumbled.
"Yeah keep telling people that," Kat chuckled.
"Where's the short demon," Reed asked?
"Kats sick," Jackson told her.
"She seemed fine last night," Reed commented.
"You didn't see her last night," Jackson corrected.
"No I didn't but I feel like she was," Reed smiled.
"You are something else man," Jackson shook his head.
"I try to be," Reed smirked before walking off.
"I'm going to be late for rounds," Jackson rolled his eyes.
"See you later," Reed smiled.
Kat laid on the couch preferring the open living room to the stuffy closet that Reed called a room. She flipped through the magazines that Reed had on the table. She didn't know what to do with herself.
"We got a new cardio attending. And she might become the new head of Cardio."
"Hello," Kat answered.
"Apparently she was in the army," Jackson told her.
"Not even going to ask how I feel," Kat mumbled.
"But she's like crazy hot," Jackson smirked, she could sense it through the phone.
"Stop thinking with your penis," Kat groaned.
"Apparently she's Dr. Hunts war buddy. They did a tour together in Baghdad whatever that is," Jackson explained.
"Really," Kat started to speak but ended with a cough.
"Are you okay," Jackson asked?
"I wasn't okay earlier, what makes you think I'm okay now," Kat grumbled after she finished coughing.
"Sorry geez."
"Just keep on telling me about GI Jane."
"Right, so she went to ut southwestern for med school," Jackson started.
"State school?"
"Cristina said that same thing but with disgust in her voice, anyway then she did her residency at G.W. and her fellowship at Mayo in Florida."
"With Joshua Moore," Kat wondered?
"Yeah."
"He wrote a paper didn't he, on uh."
"Retrograde coronary sinus perfusion," Jackson finished.
"I was getting there," Kat rolled her eyes.
"Anyway Cristina absolutely despises her and she barely know her."
"Why?"
"I don't know maybe because she's chummy with Hunt they were all buddy buddy."
"Don't ever use the word chummy again," Kat shook her head.
"I have go lunch breaks over," Jackson sighed.
"Wait," Kat heard the other line go silent.
She had returned to the beige four walls called a bedroom. She felt like she was stuck in an old timey insane asylum. She was meant to work and here she was not working. Kat was a race horse there has never been once instance in here life where she's slowed down. She hasn't even been sick since the third grade when she got a stomach bug. This was foreign to her the concept of sitting down. Yes sitting down after a long day was different because you earned that relaxation time this felt like cheating the system this felt wrong.
"Ugh," Kat screamed into her pillow.
She sighed throwing her legs off the bed, quickly slipping on her slippers to go to the kitchen.
"Maybe food will help," she whispered to herself.
She searched through the fridge but nothing looked appealing. Her stomach ache began to get worse.
"Maybe it won't help," Kat groaned as she dragged her feet over to the couch.
"HELLO," Kat was awoken by Lucifer herself Reed.
"Huh," Kat responded.
"Oh, just making sure you're still alive. You had a pulse but you looked dead," Reed shrugged.
"So you knew I was alive but you just wanted to wake me up," Kat groaned.
"What's for dinner," Reed asked as she made her way to the kitchen.
"Where is Jackson," Kat wondered rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"He's got a 30 so he's on for 13 more hours," Reed explained.
"Oh," Kat sighed, she hated being alone with Reed. They didn't really hate each other. They just don't really know each other so they spew meaningless hateful things at each other. Rather than sit in awkward silence.
"So what's for dinner," Reed leaned against the island.
"Take out, my stomach is getting worse," Kat mumbled as she got up.
"Are you okay," Asked Reed after she watched Kat stumble.
"Yes I am," Kat reassured her.
"You sure it isn't something more serious," Reed wondered?
"Yes I'm sure," Kat insisted rolling her eyes as she walked to her room.
Reed hated the lack of noise coming from Kats room. Not that she wanted noise. She enjoyed the quiet, loved it actually. The apartment was rarely quiet, especially if someone was in it. But this quiet felt off, a bit eerie.
Reed tapped her fingers on the fake marble counter top. She wanted to enter the room but didn't know how. She didn't want to just barge in and give Kat more material to teased her about. But she also wanted to make sure Kat was still breathing. She sighed as her mind went a mile a minute.
"Hey Kat I got soup," Reed smiled she pulled the bowl out of the microwave, yes it was campbells but soup is soup.
"Kat," Reed said once more, with no response. She feared the worst, running to Kats room.
"Shit," Reed mumbled under her breathe.
"I knew it was something more serious," Reed ran over to the bed checking her pulse.
"Kat," Reed tapped her face.
"What," Kat finally came too.
"You're burning up," Reed felt her forehead.
"I'm not I'm fine," Kat when to move but a wave a nausea hit her.
"Here," Reed handed her the garbage can.
"I'm," Kat tried to speak but ended up hurling into the dark blue trash can.
"Not fine," Reed scrunched up her face and tried not to gag.
"Yes, I am I just need fluids in me," Kat said defensively. She set the bucket in the floor and swung her legs off the bed. Trying her best to keep steady she slid off the bed.
"Look you need too lay down you aren't fine," Reed started to get really concerned for her Roomate.
"I'll be okay I just need fluids," Kat tried to take a step but was stopped by a sharp pain in her stomach. She crouched over wailing in pain.
"What, what, what," Reed repeated, wanting to know the root of the problem.
Kat tried to stand up tall as the pain subsided, to catch her breathe.
"It's okay," Kat whispered before passing out.
"Kat," Reed caught her head on the way down, making sure didn't have to add concussion on to the list of things wrong with Kat.
"God dammit I just left the hospital," Reed complained as she pulled out her phone.
