Pretending not to be there had been a lot easier than Kriari had thought. She had told her master that maybe, if they somehow made it look like Kriari stayed back, and Obi-Wan attended dinner with the Dutchess and Governor Vizsla, then they would have no reason to be on their guard.
Putting on one of Satine's guards' uniform hadn't been tricky, Kriari knew her way around armor, and getting the pace, presence and overall air of one of her guards down only took her a few minutes of speaking to their Commander.
As far as Concordia and the Death watch knew, Kriari Foreas remained in Mandalore, in Satine's private chambers.
The flight had been short, easy and without issues, not that they had been expecting any. Satine had voiced her displeasure with the Jedi's secrecy, but since she was aiding them in carrying it all out, she wasn't very adamant about it. Satine seemed like the kind of person who could ignore certain rules of conduct and pleasantries as long as they were aligned with her morals and objectives, and Kriari could respect that.
Once they landed, of course, their ship was inspected. Kriari had anticipated that as well, she would have done the same had she been doing something shady against her own government. That was red flag number one for her. Red flag number two came along with it when she watched two men in full Mandalorian armor inspect the ship from her hiding spot in the ventilation system. If the armor had not confirmed the men's identity, the symbol of the death watch stamped proudly over their left shoulderplates had.
Once the two warriors left the ship, Kriari climbed down from her vantage point and checked for intruders before going over to the ramp. She checked carefully for guards and cameras for a few seconds before she spotted a pair of security cameras hidden in two of the hangar's corners. She had worked with clones long enough to be able to calculate blind spots in security systems after a few moments. She counted the seconds it took for the cameras to go through a full turning cycle and calculated the exact moment she would be able to run out of the hangar undetected. Once the calculations were done, the rest was pure physical ability, a piece of cake.
Concordia was a barren place, Satine had told them it was because of the excessive mining that had been going on for decades before she rose to power, and how the forests had just now started to grow back. Kriari could sense the pain in the land, the dull ache of a deep old wound that, even when the bleeding had been staunched and after it had been stitched up, still ached. The trees were painstakingly trying their best to grow in the new rougher conditions they had, and they were bravely fighting back change. Kriari admired how the Force manifested itself in nature. It reminded her of an ancient song she had heard Ahsoka sing to herself once.
The trees deny themselves nothing that helps them grow, no rainfall, no sunshine, no blood upon the snow.
Nature and the Force were inspiring like that. People grow in spite of physical and emotional trauma, trees grow in spite of deforestation and pollution. The Force denies us nothing that helps us grow, it is never nice or fair, neither deserved or earned, but we learn, we understand, we give up to the flow of life and the universe, and we grow, whether we like it or not.
No rainfall.
No sunshine.
No blood upon the snow.
Kriari extended a prayer to the Force on behalf of the healing moon, and then jumped onto a speeder before leaving the Hangar and heading towards the "abandoned" mine facility. That's where she and her Master had decided was the most likely place something would be hidden, if there was anything to hide in the first place.
Turns out they had been right. After a thorough surveillance of the site before approaching, Kriari already knew the place was most certainly not abandoned. There were fresh scorch marks near one of the entrances, which meant a ship had either landed or taken off from that very place. She spotted two patrols on foot within a span of five minutes, which meant that the place had, not only very good surveillance, but also that there were highly trained people who could keep a tight schedule watch with impeccable precision.
Kriari noted all of this with growing concern. She wasn't put off from her mission in any way, but she became more and more weary with every observation she made. Of course these were the people that had trained the clone army, how could she expect any less. She was now, in her head at least, against a whole battalion of clones, and the idea was less than appealing to her.
Once she watched three different rounds of men on watch come and go, she made her way towards the entrance with extreme care. Of course she would not simply go through the gate as if she had been invited there, no, she was not a moron. She had spotted from her vantage point a ventilation duct on the side of the building, she checked for booby traps first. After deactivating a teaser motion sensitive grenade, she crept in and put the grill behind her and crawled her way through. She was careful not to make too much noise and not to simply turn every corner without second thought, even if she didn't find other booby traps, there was no such thing as being too cautious.
When she made it to the machine room, she didn't immediately get out of her hiding spot, she took out a pair of visors and scanned for activity first. She didn't find movement, but she did find an entire row of Mandalorian helmets. She took a picture of them and continued her careful surveilling of the room. Right when she was getting ready to leave her vantage point, one of the inner blast doors slid open. Two Mandalorian soldiers came out, leisurely strolling towards the row of helmets.
"Do you think the coward Satine knows we are here?" said the first one.
"It would be an awful coincidence if she didn't, besides, why else would she bring the Jedi with her?"
"I don't know, man. I mean The Jedi is here because we planted that mole in the first place and he happened to be there when we tried to kill Satine yesterday. I sure hope we don't have to deal with the Republic, or this is going to become too much for us to handle."
The other man punched him as soon as he was done talking.
"Don't be a coward, we are Mandalorians, true Mandalorians. If it comes to war, we will wage it because that is what we do. We have faced the Jedi and won before, we will do it again if worse comes to worse. Besides, you forget we have Dooku's backing. So stop your pitiful cowardice and grow a spine, or I'll kill you myself."
Kriari was pretty sure that was as much intel as she would be getting that day, which objectively speaking, was a lot. Dooku was involved and backing them all, this was not good, she had to tell her Master and get the hell out of there. But of course, her comm decided to start beeping extremely loudly right then, and she knew that getting back without a fight was no longer possible, not when the two men had already clocked her location.
She had always known she was too clumsy to do spy work, she honestly didn't know why her superiors bothered trying anymore. So she sent Obi-Wan her coordinates and a distress signal before kicking the vent's opening out into the main chamber and at one of the guard's heads. She unsheathed her lightsaber and jumped out, landing at ground level, saber drawn. She realized this was no ordinary opponent the second she started reconnaissance, so she put her left hand to her lower back and took a hold of her vibroblade's handle. This would not be easy, and she knew there was a chance she would get either captured or killed, but she would be damned if she didn't try her damned best.
