After watching yesterday's battle between Crimson and Brock, Logan was getting more training with his Pokemon. Ruby was powering up Ember training, Fani endurance training, Floral accuracy training, Patrick and Mittens strength trainer, and Shelly was improving her aiming.
Logan was keeping a close eye on his Pokemon so that they didn't overexert themselves.
"Good work, you guys," Logan said, proud of his Pokemon.
"Alright, lunchtime!" Elaine said, bringing over some food.
"Litleo!" Ruby cheered.
"I grab some tasty sandwiches and fruit from one of the shops," She said, holding out the food.
The Pokemon look at the food as their stomach growl. They looked at Logan, wanting for his approval.
"Go ahead, you guys. You've worked hard enough for today's Gym battle," He said, making them cheer happily.
Now the group was enjoying a lovely meal for lunch.
"By the way, Logan. I was wondering what kind of training you are having them do exactly?" Elaine asked.
"I had Ruby power up Ember in an attempt to learn Flamethrower eventually. I figured the more she powers it up more it becomes than Ember and Flamethrower. Mittens and Patrick are normal types, so their moves won't be as affected In Rock types, but hitting hard rocks will improve their strength. Fani being a small Ekans, I figure she needed to strengthen her defense which is why I don't want her lodging Shelly Water Gun. Floral is working on accuracy, and Shelly is finding better ways to aim her Water Gun at a smaller target that could make it easier to miss."
"I guess that makes sense and an interesting method," Elaine stated.
"Yeah, but I don't want them getting hurt too badly, so probably take a break from this kind of training for a few days," Logan said."Ruby and Floarl should be good since they aren't doing tough training. It is mainly Patrick, Mittens, and Fani."
Elaine nodded her understanding."So what is the game plan for the Gym?"She asked.
"Simple, I'm going with Floral and Ruby," He replied."Sure, Shelly is a better choice, but Brock is a gym leader, and he probably prepares to deal with trainers bringing both a Grass type and Water type. Crimson also showed that type matchup doesn't necessarily guarantee a win."
"So you think using a different type might throw Brock off?" Elaine asked.
"Yes, especially when I have a plan with Ruby dealing with them," He said, washing down his food with water.
"Well, I hope it works out for you," She said.
"We will just have to see. Alright, everyone let's go and win a Boulder Badge," He said, standing up as his Pokemon cheered happily.
"I can't wait to see you and Ruby plan," Elaine said, standing up as well.
Logan, Elaine, and Ruby were now standing in front of the door before Logan pushed the doors open.
"Brock, I challenge you to a Gym battle!" Logan shouted.
Brock, who was sitting on a rock, stood up.
"I accept your challenge. Log, right?" Brock said.
"Logan, the boy named Crismon just calls me Log for reasons I don't know," Logan replied with a shrug of bail shoulders.
"Well, Logan, I hope you know this battle will test your skills as a trainer," Brock said."How long have you been traveling?" He asked.
"It has been about a week, more or less, by now," Logan replied.
"So you're a beginner? Well, let's see if you can put up a good fight," Brock said.
The two were now standing in the arena.
"I hope Logan can beat him, Eevee," Elaine said, sitting in the stands.
"Eevee!"
"I will attempt this is nerve-racking," Logan said.
"It should be. After you saw yesterday's battle, I'm sure you are more than aware of how different Hum battles are," Brock commented.
"Yeah, they are, but a trainer's job is to ne strong for not just themself but the Pokemon who work hard to get strong as well, and I will do just that. Be strong for me and my Pokemon, who has been training hard to help me achieve my gym of becoming a Gym Leader, just like my father was before he became a dojo owner," Logan said with determination.
"That's quite well said for a boy who does seem like much of a talker. Let's see if your determination is enough to win, Geodude. I choose you!" Brock said, sending out his first Pokemon.
"Geo!"
"I knew that he started with that one. Floral, let's get the show going!" Logan said, sending out Bellsprout.
"Bellsprout is a good choice," Elaine said.
"A grass type, huh? We know how to deal with that. Geodude, Tackle Attack!"
"Dodge it now!" Floral jumps out of the way."Now Vine Whip!"
"Bell!" Floral cried out, firing its vine at Geodude, sending it back slightly.
"Not bad, but not good enough. Geodude, use Rock Throw!"
Geodude then tossed a bunch of rocks at Floral, hitting it roughly.
"Floral, are you okay?" Logan asked.
Floral nodded and got up from off the ground, ready to continue the battle.
"Alright, pull Geodudw close with Vine Whip, then Poison Powder!" Logan commended.
"Bell!" Floral cried out, grabbing Goedude and pulling it close to its body before releasing a purple powder onto it poisoning it.
"Geodude!" Brock said worriedly.
"Finish it with Vine Whip, so swing it away!"
"Bellsprout!" Floral cried out, using its vines to toss Geodude into the air until it hit the ground and knocked it out.
"Geo..dude..." It said fainting.
"Geodude, return," Brock said, returning Geodude.
"The plan is working well, Floral," Logan said, looking at his Bellsprout.
"Bell."
"Humph. Come up with any plan you want; my Onix will beat Bellsprout," Brock said, sending out Onix.
"Floral return!" Logan said, returning his Bellspourt."Ruby, go!"He said, nodding at Ruby.
"Huh!? Why'd he pick Ruby? He could have just continued with Floral, his Bellsprout," Elaine said, confused.
"A Fire type? Nice try, but my Onox will beat it, unlike what happened with your friend Pokemon yesterday," Brock said.
"It's not about the Pokemon type. It is about how you use your moves."
"We'll have to see about that."
"Ruby, use Work Up!" Logan commanded.
"Lit!" Ruby cried out, making a fierce expression.
"Now, Tackle!"
"Nice try. Onix, you use Tackle too!"
Onix then charges forward.
"Dodge it!"
Ruby swifly jumps out of the way and lands on top of a top.
"Tackle!"
Ruby then jumps high and hits Onix on the left side of its body, knocking it to the ground.
"Onix! Are you okay?" Brock asked, worried.
Onix shook its head to compose itself and was ready to get back to fighting.
"Looks like it's working. Ruby, use Headbutt now!"
Ruby runs at Onix and umps high, slamming its head into its head, knocking it down again. She follows it up with another Tackle.
"Onix!" Brock was worried now.
Ruby was more challenging than she looked. Brock realized as each attack didn't do much, but the damage was starting to show.
"I can't believe it. Ruby is doing it," Elaine said, amazed.
"Ruby, enough for now," Logan said.
Ruby nodded and ran back towards Logan.
"Floral, let's finish this!"
"Bell!"
'I see he used her too tired out, Onix.' Brock realized what was going on now.
"Onix, use Dig!"
"Floral feel for Onix!"
Floral closed her eyes and felt the ground to sense where Onix was. However, Onix burst through the soil underneath Floral.
"Floral!"
"Onix, use Bind!"
Onix quickly wrapped itself around Floarl, gripping it tightly.
"Poison powder now!" Floral tried to move, but Onix was too strong.
"Alright, Onix, enough," Brock ordered.
Onix released Floral, who looked exhausted."Give up your Pokemon. Too weak to continue," Brock said.
"Floral, return. Sorry if I overdid it for you, don't worry, I'm proud of you," Logan said, returning Floral."That plan failed but is not over yet."
"I told you my Onic is much more powerful than you think. You still want to keep going?"
"Of course, we're not done yet, Ruby; let's go!"
"Onix, use Dig one more time!"
Onix dove into the ground again.
"Ruby, Ember, straight into the hole now!"
"Huh?"
Ruby ran straight toward the hole and released a powerful making everyone's eyes widen at the heat and Onix flying out from under the ground, hitting the ground.
"Yes, the training paid off. You did a Flamethrower, now ended his with Headbutt!"
"Onix bind!"
"Protect!"
A green then surrounded Ruby's shield stopping the bind.
"Headbutt!"
"Lit!" Ruby cried as it slammed its head into Onix, knocking it down as it passed out defeated, with Ruby panting from exhaustion.
"He won!" Elaine said, impressed.
"We won, Ruby," Logan said, running over and hugging his partner."You did an excellent job pulling it off."
"Onix, you tried your best. You should get some rest," Brock said, returning his Onix.
Brock walked over to Logan."Despite Ruby weakling Onix, it is risking Bell Sprout's health to pull off the finishing move while bound," He said, telling Logan the plan's flaws.
"Your right or it was and won't happen again, but even though it was risking Ruby pulling off her point, Floral did her best to prevent the risk of Ruby not pulling off Flamethrower the strength of not being able to do another Headbutt," Logan replied stroking Ruby's head.
"Here," Brock said, holding out the badge."For defeating me and proving how much your pokemon trust you enough to take the risk of it not working. I present you the Boulder Badge."
"Thank you," Logan said, putting the badge inside his case."Brock, do you hate battling?"He asked.
"Huh?"
"Yeah, what do you mean, Logan?" Elaine asked.
"Just that you seem worried when battling. Not only for your Pokemon but mine as well."
"To be honest. I'm not interested in being a trainer. I get more joy in reading pokemon than in having them battle. I don't care about being a great trainer. I want to be the world's best Pokemon breeder, but I can't leave here because I have to look after my brothers and sisters," Brock said.
Logan looked to see Brock slibings, watching the match.
"Logan, I want you to take the badge and fulfill my dream. Will you do that for me?" Brock asked.
"I take the badge, but no, I will not accept you giving up your dream," Logan said, taking the badge."I will keep moving forward with my dream, and one day, you can follow your dream if you don't lose hope," He said, placing a hand on Brock's shoulder.
"You know Logan for a quiet guy. You have a way of encouraging others. Here's to hoping we both achieve our dreams," Brock said, holding a hand out.
Logan takes it and shakes hands in a bond of a new friendship.
He now leaves the gym with his first badge in the Boulder badge as Brock and his siblings wave goodbye to them as they leave.
"My first badge," Logan said with a smile.
"So where to next?" Elaine asked.
"The closest place is Cerulean City, just past Mt. Moon," Logan said, looking at his Pokenav."So that we're, we go next.
"Sounds good."
"Eevee."
"Liteo!"
"To Mt. Moon and then Cerulean City, here we come," He stated, putting away his pokedex and shrugging when he thought he heard something in the trees moving.
'Probably a Pokemon.' He thought, looking back up ahead.
"After earning the Boulder Badge from Brock. Logan was now headed to Mt. Moon to make their way to Cerulean City. Unwared that a certain trio was near Pewter City, ready to cause trouble for a certain Pikachu trainer on his way to Pewter City, and soon trouble for him," The Narrator said.
