A boy, probably no older than four and a bit overweight, was so entranced by his popsicle that he didn't see the large truck when he crossed the street.
The truck honked, unable to stop, and the driver looked more angry than shocked.
The kid was stunned when he heard the truck roar and was only snapped out of it when someone swooped in and brought him to the other side of the road in a flash.
Looking up, he noticed another boy older than him with white hair. "Thanks!" He giggled. "Want a lick?" he asked nicely, holding his treat to the older boy's face.
"Uh…" Wow… that was so nonchalant, Lincoln thought. "No thanks."
The kid stuck the popsicle in his mouth and waved bye to Lincoln, walking away.
Lincoln could only stare dumbstruck at him with an eye raised as he walked off.
"You beat me to the punch. That kid's a tough one."
Lincoln looked toward the voice. It was a middle-aged man with an outfit of a police officer. He was standing to the side, staring at the kid while shaking his head.
"Do you know him?" Lincoln asked.
"Yeah. A bit of a trouble maker, that one." He chuckled. "Tomorrow he'll probably be drowning somewhere."
"Is that… concerning?" Lincoln asked.
"Of course not." The officer said, waving a hand. "That kid can hold his breath for days."
"Huh," was all Lincoln could say.
"Looking at you, I can tell you aren't familiar with vehicles. Are you a tourist."
He wasn't unfamiliar with vehicles, but the guess wasn't a lie.
"Yeah, I am."
"Well you don't need to worry about any accidents." The officer laughed. "They rarely happen. The total amount per year doesn't reach double digits… probably. And any that do happen don't have any life-threatening injuries."
"Really? Wow."
"But I still try to avoid them if possible. Save everyone some trouble. Thanks for the help though," he said with a thumbs up. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go speak with that kid's mom. Take care." The man said, walking off.
"You too!"
Lincoln scratched his head. He guessed people were just naturally more durable here. It made sense once he thought about it.
