Meanwhile, at the Academy on Berk
"They're gone!?" Fishlegs exclaimed in fear and shock.
The Ingerman and the rest of the riders were shocked by this news. Hiccup and Lani went off patrolling on Dragon Island, but when they got there, the island was completely deserted. Not a single dragon on trace. This made Hiccup and Lani worried about the sudden disappearance. They quickly went back to Berk and told the other riders about the sudden dragon disappearance. They were lucky that the dragons on Berk didn't disappear, they're either roaming at the village or the forest.
"Yes, Fishlegs, all the dragons at Dragon Island are gone." Lani said with concern.
"But how?" Astrid asked in shock. "How can they disappear like that?"
"That we don't know." Hiccup said to her with worry. "They're disappearance is just like Changewings."
"Uh…isn't what Changewings supposed to do? Disappearing and spitting acid?" Tuffnut said stupidly.
Hiccup facepalmed with a sigh. "Tuff, that's not what I meant." He said with a grumble. "Yes, Changewings can disappear by blending through their surroundings, but this is different. They completely vanished from their island, not a single trace of them was left behind, and there was no sign of them ever coming back."
Fishlegs gasped in realization. "Do you think it was the Sky Destroyer?" He whispers fearfully.
"Do NOT mention that dragon again!" Snotlout exclaimed in fear.
"Why not? It was awesome!" Tuff said with a grin.
"Have you forgotten that DRAGON tried to kill us?! We barely got out of there alive!" Snotlout exclaimed to Tuff.
"Well, Gobber did say it was a Judgment Bringer." Fishlegs pointed out to them.
"Don't remind me." Snotlout grumbled while crossing his arms.
"Look, we should scout the area to see if any dragons are still-" Hiccup was cut off when Gobber came running in.
"Hiccup! Hiccup!"
"Gobber? What's the matter?" Hiccup asked in concern.
"It's Trader Johann! He has big news to tell ya all!" Gobber said with alarm.
Hearing this, the riders and Lani quickly got on their dragons while Gobber hitched a ride with Snotlout. They quickly headed out from the arena to the village and saw Johann at his ship, talking with Stoick in alarm. He stopped when he saw the riders and Lani's dragons land close by before they ran up to the trader.
"Johann! What's the emergency?" Hiccup asked the trader.
"Oh, it was terrible, Master Hiccup! Truly terrible indeed!" Johann said in alarm.
"What is it?" Hiccup asked him.
"I saw a colossal dragon emerging from the ocean's depths! A dragon that was supposed to be a myth to all Vikings!" Johann exclaimed.
"What?!" The Riders and Lani exclaimed, wanting to know what he's talking about.
"Purple Death!" Johann exclaimed in fear.
…
…
"The what?" Ruff and Tuff asked in confusion.
"What's a Purple Death?" Snotlout asked in confusion. "Is it like the Red Death? But Purple?"
Gobber shook his head at them, "You three mutton-heads never pay attention in my lessons! The Purple Death is a giant Tidal Class Dragon!"
"I heard about a Purple Death before." Lani said, getting the others' attention.
"You have?" Astrid asked in surprise.
Lani nodded and explained his reason. "Back at Skerry Island, we have a storyteller. He told many old and forgotten stories and legends. And one of them was a story of the Purple Death."
"What did your storyteller tell you about the Purple Death?" Hiccup asked Lani, wanting to know more.
"From what I know, he said that Purple Deaths are exceedingly rare, thought to be extinct, in fact. But it is known to be a threat through both sea and land."
Fishlegs gulped in fear. "A-Are you sure?" He gulps in fear.
Lani nodded. "Yes, a Purple Death can create massive seaquakes that can cause huge tidal waves. He said that these seaquakes are so large that it made people believe that it was the Serpent of Midgard from legend that will bring forth Ragnarök, the end of the world." He explained, earning different expressions from the group like shock, fear, and excitement. The last one was probably from the twins.
"Woah! It sounds awesome! I wanna tame it!" Tuff exclaimed excitingly.
"Oh, no you don't!" Gobbler exclaimed to Tuff. "Purple Death is too dangerous, it's much worse than the Sky Destroyer!"
"But we face dragons like that before." Hiccup said to Gobber.
"Yeah, there was the Red Death, the Screaming Death, and the Whispering Death…" Ruffnut listed them out.
"We get it Ruff, but I'm with Gobber on this one." Lani said to the group. "The Purple Death can be dangerous, more dangerous than those dragons you all faced before; I doubt we can handle that one."
"We're not going to tame it. We're just going to observe from a safe distance." Hiccup suggested.
Snotlout scoffed. "That's what you said with Sky Destroyer and look how that turned out." He said sarcastically.
"Snotlout, we need to know about the Purple Death or else it will be a threat for Berk's trading and fishing." Hiccup said to him.
Snotlout groaned in annoyance while Stoick came over to his son. "Be careful out there, Hiccup. We don't know what danger we are dealing with." He said to him in concern.
"Don't worry, Dad. We will." Hiccup said before looking at Johann. "Johann, can you tell us the location where you last saw the Purple Death?"
"The last time I saw it was in the east. It came out at me by surprise, barely got out of there with my life." Johann explained with a shiver.
"Alright, saddle up gang." Hiccup said as he and the others got on their dragons before taking off to the location where the Purple Death was.
Jade was giving her friends a tour of the Enchanted Islands. They explore the Great Forest Island in awe and amazement. Jade told them how the three islands have great magic that are stored within them. The trees are filled with strange yet beautiful fruits that have many flavors that no one could resist. Jade took them to the waterfall where they met Naiads. The beautiful water naps chatted and played with the females while the males kept their distance. Cayden was holding down Maui, preventing the Demigod to go over there and to flirt with the Naiads. They soon return to the Temple of Knowledge. There, they were greeted by Arivu.
"Ah, I see you all have returned." Arivu greeted them as they were outside. "Did you find the answer that you seek?"
Tara smiles and holds up the sword. "Yup, and something tells me I won't go crazy in finding out about myself." She said with a grin.
"I am glad that you found the answer." Aviru said kindly. "And I have a feeling that you all are enjoying your stay at the island."
"Yeah, who knew this place was filled with magic?" Makala said with impress.
Arivu chuckled. "Indeed, you should explore more of the islands, you can meet the locals."
"The locals?" Moana asked Arivu. "Are you sure? We don't want to be a bother."
"Nonsense. It will be a great chance for all of you to meet. Speaking of which, Yasmina, Nasir, please come." Arivu called out to the library gently.
With his words, a male and female came out from the library. They were the same age as Moana and her friends, but they look different. The male has amber looking eyes while the female has sky blue eyes. Arivu gestured to them with his wing and made the introduction. "Everyone, these are Yasmina and her brother, Nasir."
Yasmina bowed at them kindly with a smile while Nasir looked at them suspiciously, as if he suspected them doing something evil. Moana decided to make the introduction. "Hi, I'm Moana, and these are my friends. Malie, Keoni, his sister- Keilani, Lanuola, Makala-, Tara, Gil, Coral, Maui, and Jade." She introduced before getting a nudge from her dragon sister. "Oh, and our dragons-"
"You ride a Night Fury?" Nasir suddenly spoke, surprising the group.
"Y-Yeah." Moana answered Nasir, who made his way to Aliikai.
He knelt down and observed Aliikai. "I have never seen a Night Fury before." He said to Moana and the others. "I thought they were just myths."
"Myths? What do you mean?" Keoni asked in confusion.
"Long ago, there were many Night Furies flying through the sky." Yasmina explained in a mysterious voice. "Until one day, they all slowly disappeared. Never to be seen again."
The group stayed silent by this while Nasir was busy observing Aliikai, fascinated by her up close. But what's more fascinating is that they were accompanied by a Vahlok known as Sky Destroyers in the eyes of the Vikings. Vahloks are well respected dragons. No one dares challenged one nor a pack. They said that their roars are so great, it can shatter mountains into dust.
"I'm surprised you were able to befriend a Vahlok. They are known to despise humans. But he seems to be calm around you people." Nasir said to them.
"That's because this Vahlok was given to Princess Malie as guardian from the Lord Draco." Jade said to Nasir, getting both his and Yasmina's attention.
"Lord Draco gave you this Vahlok?" Yasmina asked in amazement.
Malie nodded with a small smile. "Yes, Cayden became my guardian ever since we met him and his pack. Together, we saved Te Fiti from darkness."
"Te Fiti? The Mother Island?" Yasmina asked curiously.
Moana nodded. "Yeah, turns out, Te Fiti turned into Te Kā when her heart was taken. Once we returned her heart back, life began to return and the dragons as well."
"The dragons? You mean, you're bringing them back to your region?" Nasir asked them, eyes slightly widened.
"Yeah, but there still dragons out there that we still have yet to find." Keoni explained to them with a concerned tone.
"Hmmm…perhaps if you split up your group, that way. All of you can cover more ground." Yasmina said to them.
"That sounds interesting, but we're still new in this region and we might end up being chased by Vikings." Moana said to them.
"True, Vikings can be stubborn." Nasir said to them.
"What about you guys? Do you ride dragons?" Lanuola asked them.
"Yes, and she is waiting for us outside. But be warned, she can be very aggressive if she does not trust." Yasmina said before turning to Arivu with a small bow. "We'll be off now, Arivu."
"Take care, Yasmina, Nasir." Arivu said with a nod.
"Come." Nasir said to the group as he and Yasmina guided to a clearing, where some Unicorns were grazing on the field, but then they spotted a dragon that was half the size of Cayden that was lying on a flat stone, napping through the sunlight.
"Solaria!" Yasmina called the dragon gently.
The dragon heard her call as it lifted its elegant neck and released a loud yawn before getting off the rock and walking over to them. The group saw the dragon's features. Upon closer inspection, the dragon is actually a female. She has an elegant body, very slim but well-built, has bright yellow eyes, red ruby scales with silver markings all over her body, and has golden feathers on the back of her head, a small patch of hair on the tail-tip (similar like a brush), and sharp short, curved claws. Although it seems that this dragoness has no wings as she just walked over to them gracefully. Makao, Malo, and Shocker had their jaws dropped at the sight of Solaria while Cayden looked at her seriously, he knows what dragon species she is. Gil releases a sharp gasp in shock and amazement as he looks at Yasmina and Nasir's dragon.
Gil points at the dragones in shock and awe. "Y-Yo-You'r-re dr-dr-dra-ggon i-i-is a-a-a G-G-G-"
"A Goldenheart." Jade finished Gil's sentence. "Impressive."
"A Goldenheart? What's that?" Moana asked Jade curiously.
"A Goldenheart dragon is a rare breed of dragon." Jade began her explanation. "They are known to be a combination of a dragon and a Phoenix, a powerful combination."
"A Phoenix? Isn't that a magical fire bird with amazing healing abilities?" Gil asked Jade.
"It is." Jade answered with a nod.
"Wait, how can a fiery bird and a dragon…you know…hook up?" Maui asked with unsureness.
Keoni gave him a small glare and elbow at him lightly. "Maui!" He whispers to him scoldingly.
"No, they were not bred by two species, they were created by Lord Draco." Jade explains to them, getting everyone's attention. "Lord Draco is known to have a Phoenix friend. And for a gift to his friend, he used some of the Phoenix feathers to create the Goldenheart dragons."
"Wow, that's amazing!" Coral grins excitingly.
"But how come I never came across them before?" Tara asked Jade.
"That's because Goldenhearts never stay in one place." Jade explained to her. "They are considered to be the most beautiful and rarest of all dragons, and a prize for Dragon Hunters. To keep themselves safe, they don't stay in one place, they leave as soon as they spot any humans coming their way."
"Then how come she's not afraid of us?" Keilani asked Jade.
"That's because she knows that you all are from the region that they once used to live." Jade said to them.
Moana's eyes widened in realization as she looked at Solaria the Goldenheart. She and the other Goldenheart used to live in their region! Moana was cut off when Solaria looked at her in the eyes, like she was reading her soul. Then Solaria lowered her head and sniffs at Moana gently.
"She likes you." Yasmina said to Moana with a smile.
"She does?" Moana asked in surprise before being nuzzled on the cheek by Solaria. "Oh…"
"It appears that you reminded her of someone. Someone that she met a long time ago." Nasir said, standing besides his sister.
Moana hesitates before she gently strokes Solaria's snout, earning a soft rumble from the dragoness. Moana smiles at this and gently continues stroking her snout. Solaria made gentle purrs in return before her eyes flashed a bit, creating a mental link for Moana to see. Moana gasped before a flash of memories that was not hers were shown. There, she saw Matai Vasa from the past, she could see him and Solaria together as the great chief was stroking the kind Goldenheart while her pack, approximately four Goldenhearts, were at Motunui. Bonding with Moana's people before leaving to go to another island. As Moana and Solaria let go, the young Chieftest looked at Solaria with wide eyes as she gave the girl a kind look.
"You…You know the Great Matai Vasa? My ancestor?" Moana whispers to Solaria, who responded with a nod, "But…but how? That was a thousand of years ago."
"Goldenhearts are known to be immortal dragons, they can live for a thousand of years." Jade explained to her and the others. "That is why she knows your ancestor, Matai Vasa."
"Woah…" Moana said in awe.
Maui looked at the Goldenheart nervously. "Wait, you mean they've been alive for many years…and they know about…you know…" Maui slowly stopped when he spotted Solaria slowly glare at him.
"If you are referring to the crime you committed of stealing the Heart of Te Fiti and creating the darkness, driving all the dragons, including the Goldenhearts, out from their homes and forced to live in a Viking filled territory that hunts them down as a game? Then the answer is…yes." Jade said to the Demigod, who turned paled by this. "Threat not, Maui. For all we know, she might have forgiven you."
Maui looked back to Goldenheart, who glared at him dangerously with a small growl, causing the Demigod to turn back to the Mermaid Mage. "You called that forgiving?!"
"I said she might forgive you; I didn't mean immediately." Jade said to him calmly.
Lanuola observes Solaria carefully as she notices that she doesn't have wings. "Hey, Yasmina? How come Solaria doesn't have wings? Are all Goldenhearts wingless?"
"They are, but they don't need wings to fly." Yasmina answered to her kindly.
"Really?" Malie asked curiously.
"Yes, they can fly without any aid of wings, they just simply gallop through the sky." Nasir was the one who explained about the Goldenheart's flying capability.
"I heard about that!" Gil suddenly said. "They are known to use magic like the Vahloks!"
"Wow! Now that's awesome!" Tara said with a grin.
"It is, that is why they were so valuable." Nasir explained to them seriously. "When they arrived at the Norse, they were hunted by Vikings and hunters, they were lucky to survive all these years and made their way to the Enchanted Islands."
"The Mages Confederacy made sure that Solaria and her pack had a safe haven. They allow them to roam the islands and search for their own nesting grounds." Yasmina said to them before going over to Solaria's side. "Though they can choose their riders if they want, Solaria is only one that closed me and my brother as her rider. Her pack continued traveling through the islands."
"Woah, that's awesome! But wait, are all Goldenhearts female?" Coral asked Yasmina.
"Yes, yet they are." Yasmina answered. "And because of this, the male dragons get a little...distracted."
"Distracted? What do you mean?" Gil asked in confusion.
Tara notices the male dragons before grabbing Gil's chin and makes him look at the male dragons, who were drooling over Solaria, except for Cayden. He was focusing on keeping Malie safe. "Ooohhhh…." Gil finally understood what it meant.
"If they're all girls then how can they have children of their own?" Makala asked Yasmina and Nasir.
"They don't." Nasir answered to her. "They may not have male counterparts, but they do know how to care for young dragons who are orphaned or abandoned."
"Wow, they are so kind and cool!" Coral said in awe.
"They are. But they do miss their old region from time to time." Yasmina said to them, patting Solaria's side gently.
When Moana heard that, an idea came to her mind. If Solaria and her pack missed Motunui, why don't they come and visit them? "You can visit Motunui if you want." She suddenly said. Yasmina and Nasir looked at her in shock along with Solaria. "Sorry, what I mean is, at Motunui, we're celebrating a festival that we made to honor the returning of the dragons to our region and to their dragon god, Draco. And we call it, the Dragon Festival. If you guys are interested, you can come if you like."
Both Nasir and Yasmina looked at each other skeptically. They never left the Enchanted Islands before. They grew up and trained to master their skills. But this is beyond their expectation. Going out to the world sounds…strange, strange for them to see what's beyond the Enchanted Islands. And yet, they were curious. They want to know more from the outside world, wanting to explore and seeing what was out there.
"That sounds…interesting." Yasmina said to Moana.
"So…will you guys come?" Moana asked them hopefully.
"We would, but we must speak with the council about this." Yasmina said to them. "They are the ones in charge of the Mages Confederacy."
"Alright, tell us if you want to come or not, we won't force you." Moana said to them.
Yasmina and Nasir were surprised by this kind gesture but both made small smiles at Moana. "We will think about, thank you for your patients, Moana." Yasmina said to her.
"You're very welcome." Moana said to them kindly.
"Why don't we show you around our home?" Yasmina suggested. "We could show you the best places."
"That will be great and when you guys get your permissions from the council, we'll show you guys our home." Moana said with a smile.
"That would be lovely." They both said unison.
The group got on their dragons. Though Keoni, Kailani, and Gil tried to get their dragons to move, they were distracted by looking at Solaria, who was giving them a blank look. But they were able to snap out of it when Cayden roared at them, scolding the males for being rude, before bowing an apology to the Goldenheart dragon. Unlike the male dragons, Vahloks are more mature and respect females' space, much to Solaria's relief. The Goldenheart dragon bowed in acknowledgement before Cayden helped Malie up on his back.
"Isn't he such a gentleman?" Yasmina said to Moana as she and her brother got on Solaria.
Moana giggled. "He is an adult." She said with a smile before turning to Jade. "Jade, are you coming?"
"You all go ahead; I have something I need to do first." Jade assured. "I'll meet you all back at the Temple of Knowledge."
"Sure thing, Jade." Moana said with a nod as she got on Aliikai along with Tara before they took off. And to everyone's amazement, Solaria gallops through the air as if it was land.
Yasmina and Nasir showed their new friends around the island while explaining to them why Enchanted Islands remained hidden. The islands do not exist on any maps of the known world because the first generation of the settlers cast a powerful spell that resulted in the formation of the walls of fog and clouds to hide the islands away from the rest of the world to ensure their own protection. Only those of pure heart and magical beings that seek refuge are allowed to enter the borders.
The twins took their friends to the Rainbow Forest. The forest was filled with trees that could change the colors of their leaves. The group were amazed by this before they moved on to the Great Forest Island's Crystal Lake. It was so big that it showed the reflection of the sun and it sparkled brightly. Then they took them to a grove that was filled with fairies, pixies, and sprites. Posy went back to her friends as the others got to know more about these tiny little creatures. Then they went to the Swamp Island and encountered other fascinating creatures there. They were greeted by the locals aka other Pixies, Fairies and Sprites. Although Maui almost got eaten by a creature called Bunyip, after accidentally stepping on its tail, and was chased around the swamp by it. Luckily, thanks to Yasmina's magic, she was able to calm down the savage beast before they moved on to the next island, and that was the Volcanic Island, the largest of them all. It is inhabited by all kinds of Jinn.
As they landed on the island, there was a big volcano on the center of the island, a big jungle surrounding the area along with a big desert. The gang were amazed by this but was soon cut off when they saw other magical creatures in the area. Yasmina and Nasir showed them the hidden hot springs and hidden caves, filled with rare gemstones. They were fascinated by the Enchanted Islands' beauty while getting to know more about their new friends.
"So, you guys grew up in the Enchanted Islands since you were young?" Moana asked as she and the others were on their dragons, flying back to the Great Forest Island while Maui was at his Hawk form.
Yasmina nodded. "Yes, me and Nasir never knew our parents, we were founded by a member of the Mages Confederacy when we were only infants. They learn that we are half Jinn and human. We trained by masters to hone our skills."
"I am so sorry that you never met your parents." Moana apologized to them.
"It's alright. The people of Enchanted Islands are our family." Yasmina said to her in assurance.
"Huh, you know, your story reminds me of mine." Maui said to them. "When I was a baby, my parents didn't want me, so they threw me off to sea. After I was founded by the gods and given the hook, I went back to the humans and I gave them anything they could ever want and be their hero. I would reserve the love that my parents would've never given me." Maui said with a sad smile.
Yasmina and Nasir looked at him with sympathy in their eyes. "You took the Heart of Te Fiti for them, so they would love you." Yasmina said quietly.
"It was…never enough. Until I met a curly haired, non-princess with a terrifying night dragon to help me realize that all I wanted was a family."
Moana gave him a playful scolding look while Aliikai made an annoyed glare at Maui. Yasmina giggled at this and her brother rolled his eyes at his mischievous attitude.
"At least they're better than my dad." Tara said with a hint of annoyance when she mentioned her dad.
"Is there a reason why you hate your father?" Nasir asked her.
"Oh, maybe because he ditched my mom and then cursed his own daughter as a prank, so yeah. I HATE him sooo much that when I see him, I'm gonna say to his face that his a big, fat, son of a-"
"O-kay! I think we should stop you there." Moana said, stopping Tara from her sudden ranting. "We should meet up with Jade before we…what's that?" Moana suddenly said.
They followed her gaze to see a falcon flying their way. It landed on Nasir's arm band as it had a note tied on its leg. Yasmina takes it and reads the note before gasping in shock.
"What is it?" Malie asked in concern.
"It's the council…they…they're allowing us to go to Motunui!" Yasmina exclaimed in shock and amazement while the others gasped. "They said that we can bring the other Goldenhearts with us to see the island once again once the Dragon Festival is over."
"That's great news!" Coral exclaimed happily. "We can show them the good times they had with Moana's people!"
"They would appreciate that very much." Nasir said with a nod. "We should call them over to us."
"Call them?" Keoni asked curiously. "How?"
"Like this." Yasmina gestured the dragoness, who nodded.
Solaria releases a melodic roar that echoed through the islands. It was soft, peaceful, like a humpback whale singing. Once she finished, everything was quiet before they heard a series of melodic roars coming their way. Turning around, they awed to see four more Goldenhearts coming their way. They galloped towards Solaria and hovered besides her.
"Everyone, these are Solaria's packmates. Luminous, Sage, Astra, and Nova." Yasmina introduces to them the other Goldenhearts. The dragonesses bowed at them respectfully while the other female dragons and Cayden bows back at them. Makaio, Malo, and Shocker were too distracted to even acknowledge them. But they were able to snap out of it when Cayden growled at them in a scolding tone.
"We should meet back with Jade first." Gil suggested. "We have to take her back home."
They all nodded and headed to the Temple of Knowledge with the Goldenhearts. They were excited about this special event and can't wait to tell everyone at Motunui.
However, they will deal with a big problem.
Hiccup, Lani, and the rest of the dragon riders were flying through the dark clouded sky, following the direction where Johann witnessed the Purple Death. Fishlegs was jittering either of excitement or fear, not sure whether or not he wanted to meet this dragon. The twins, on the other hand, were excited as they wanted to find this Purple Death and ride on it, betting to see who can reach its head. Much to Hiccup's annoyance.
"Stay sharp, gang." Hiccup said to them. "We don't know where or when the Purple Death will come."
"Well, that's assuring." Snotlout said sarcastically. "We don't know what this dragon even looks like!"
"That's easy, it's a big awesome looking purple dragon." Tuff described stupidly, earning a facepalm from Snotlout.
Astrid looks over to Lani and asks. "Lani, since you know something about the Purple Death, why don't tell us more."
Lani rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, nothing much about it actually, what I know from the storyteller is that Purple Death does listen to someone."
"Really, who?" Hiccup asked curiously.
"I don't know if it's true, but he said that a Purple Death shall listen to the people that are one with sea." Lani said to them.
"The People that are one with the sea? What the heck is that supposed to mean?" Snotlout asked in confusion and in a dull tone.
"I don't know either, but I guess he's referring to the people that know the sea then us." Lani explained the best way he could.
"Well, we'll figure it out once we-" Hiccup was cut off when a flash of lightning came, followed by a loud thunder, scaring the dragons in the process.
"AH!" They all yelped in surprise along with their dragons.
"Woah! That was a close one." Lani said with a shaken sigh.
"I know, right?! If Snotlout got a lightning bolt to the head again, he'll be speaking post-lightning Snotlout!" Tuff said with an excited grin on his face.
"SHUT UP, TUFFNUT!" Snotlout exclaimed to him angrily.
Lani and Sandstorm looked at them in confusion. "What are they talking about?" Lani asked in confusion with a hint of awkwardness in his tone.
"Long story." Hiccup mutters out before adding. "We just need to keep going to find the Purple Death and then we-WOAH!" He suddenly yelped as a bunch of seagulls flew past them in a hurry.
"What was that?!" Astrid exclaimed in surprise.
"They were seagulls and judging by how fast they were flying, I guess something spook them." Lani said to the group.
"What could possibly do that?" Ruffnut asked in an idiotic tone.
"Umm…probably that?" Tuffnut points up ahead in a stupid manner.
They followed the Tuff's gaze and gasped in shock and horror to see what he meant. Swimming above the water was a colossal dragon. Lani was correct, the dragon was indeed purple, hence the name. It has long tendrils that extend from under its jaw, somewhat resembling a beard. Its feature is like all sea dragons. Its body was snake-like and had many coral-like overlapping plates. It has a curved nasal horn and bright yellow eyes.
The riders and Lani stared at the dragon with wide and fearful eyes. Their dragons were also in shock by this. They've seen Red Death and the Death, but this Purple Death is beyond worst. Scratch that, BEYOND TERRIBLE! This dragon could easily crush them.
"Hiccup." Snotlout said to Hiccup in a dull and scared tone.
"Yeah?" Hiccup dared to respond.
"This is your fault." Snotlout said as he looked at the Purple Death in fear as it roars loudly through the lighting filled sky.
Not far from them were Moana and her group. They were sailing through the ocean, making their way back to their region with their new friends. After meeting up with Jade and telling her the good news, the mermaid mage was happy that their new friends could come to the festival. They took her back home while they headed back to Motunui, to introduce their new friends to the people. However, their excitement was cut short when they heard a loud roar from a distance. Startling them and their dragons in the process.
"What was that?" Moana asked as she was shocked and startled by the sudden roar.
Cayden was looking at a curtain direction and made a small growl, recognizing that roar anywhere. Malie was beside her dragon as she looked at him in concern. "What's wrong Cayden? Do you know what that was?"
Cayden nodded his head as he glared at the other direction, feeling a powerful presence far from their location. "Is there something out there that we should know about?" Keoni asked the Vahlok with worry.
"Cayden knows what dragon it is." Yasmina said to them in a serious tone.
"What is it?" Keilani whispers in a worry tone.
"Purple Death." Yasmina answered seriously.
Malie, Gil, Coral, and Maui gasped in shock when she mentioned the Purple Death while Mini-Maui fainted by this information.
"A Purple Death?" Malie whispers in shock.
"Yes." Yasmina nodded.
"What's a Purple Death?" Makala asked worriedly.
"A Purple Death is like the Red Death." Maui began the explanation. "But bigger, purple, and is a sea dragon with a personality that wants to sink boats and destroy any villages that angers it."
Makala turned pale by this along with the others. "W-Why is it here?" Moana asked almost fearfully.
"We don't know." Gil said with worry. "Usually, Purple Death stays in deeper waters but this is beyond its territory."
"Wait…" Malie suddenly spoke as she could feel something wrong. "That direction leads to Berk, where Lani and his friends are."
"Then they are doomed to face such a dragon." Nasir said to her in a serious tone. "The Purple Death has never been tamed before, let alone reasoning with it."
"We have to try!" Moana said as she got on Aliikai. "Look, we know the history of Vikings and Dragons are bad, but come on! They don't deserve being destroyed by the Purple Death!"
Nasir and Yasmina looked at each other, like they were sending each other silent messages that indicated that Moana was right. Yes, Vikings hunt dragons but no one deserves such fate of being destroyed from the Purple Death. They looked at Moana and made a serious nod.
"We will help you, but someone has to take the Goldenhearts to safety." Nasir said to them.
"We'll take them to Motunui." Keilani said, referring to her and her sisters. "We'll send Mistral back to you guys once you deal with the Purple Death."
Both Nasir and Yasmina nodded as they turned towards Solaria. The Goldenheart dragon understood her riders' looks and gave a sharp nod before roaring to her pack to listen to Keoni's sisters, which they agreed.
"Let's go!" Moana ordered before taking off with the others while Keoni's sisters sailed off with the Goldenhearts and the little animal companions.
Back to the Riders and Lani, they struggle to avoid the Purple Death as it releases a massive jet of highly explosive fire like a wave of streams. The gang quickly averted its attack while the twins cheered and insulted at it happily.
"Would you muttonheads stop!? It's trying to kill us!" Snotlout yelled at the two angrily.
"We know! That's what makes it fun!" Tuff exclaimed happily before yelling at the Purple Death. "Come on! Is that all you got?!"
The Purple Death roared in pure anger as it released another blast of fire, separating the group in the process. Fishlegs and Snotlout screamed as their dragons roared in panic when they were spinning through the air. Only the twins were cheering in delight while their dragons roared in panic. Hiccup, Astrid, and Lani were able to pull their dragons back to their senses as they fired many rounds at the dragon but had no effect at it. It only irritated it more.
"Our shots are not working!" Lani exclaimed through the heavy winds as heavy rains started to pour down on them. "We need another way!"
"We have to keep it out of Berk's waters!" Hiccup exclaimed through the heavy winds. "Toothless! Plasma Blast!"
The male Night Fury fired his plasma blast at the Purple Death's face, only making it angrier. It releases a roar that matches the sound of the thunder before firing another stream of explosive fire. The riders and Lani dodged it again, but unaware that the Purple Death's tail had risen from the water and started flaring around, smashing through sea stacks, and creating huge waves in the process. Its tail was so long that it nearly smacked the riders, they were lucky to evade it, but it was heading straight toward Lani and Sandstorm!
"LANI, LOOK OUT!" Hiccup warned Lani in panic.
But it was too late, the tail smacked both Lani and Sandstorm out of the air and into the raging water. Sandstorm was able to recover from the blow and tried to find her rider through the deep waters, roaring out to him. However, Lani couldn't hear her as he was slowly sinking through the dark waters. The group tried to save him but were cut off when the Purple Death fired more streams of fire at them. As they fought, they weren't aware that Moana and her friends were hidden at the sea stack, watching their battle from afar. Malie saw Lani fall off Sandstorm and didn't resurface, panic filled her mind as she quickly got off her dragon and was about to jump off the sea stack but was stopped by Cayden.
"Woah! Malie, what are you doing?!" Moana asked in shock as her friend was about to jump off.
"I need to help Lani before he drowns!" Malie said in a panic tone.
"You can't just go in there! The Purple Death is on a rampage!" Maui points his hook at the angry purple dragon.
"If I don't, Lani will die!" Malie suddenly exclaimed in fear and worry. "I have to."
Moana and the others looked at her in concern before looking back to the Purple Death, to see it angrily breathing fire and the riders and their dragons. They know the risk, but they have to help, otherwise; the Purple Death will destroy Berk.
"Go, we'll try and distract it." Moana finally spoke to Malie. "But be careful."
With a smile, Malie nodded as Cayden allowed her to go before, she quickly made a run and jumped off the edge. Diving in the water and transforming herself to a mermaid. She swims deep within the water to search for Lani, but it was pitch black, light can only be emitted when there was a flash of lighting. She tried to find Lani fast, but had nowhere to go, until a blue light was suddenly emitted. Malie saw the light surrounding her before she realized that it was the Ocean that was creating the light before it made a path for her to reveal Lani unconscious, still sinking in the water. Gasping, Malie quickly swims towards him. She was lucky that Lani was far from the Purple Death's reach, otherwise; he would've been crushed. Malie quickly grabbed him and carried him to safety. She swam far from the Purple Death and the riders before she resurfaced through the raging waves. She saw the riders and the dragons were avoiding the Purple Death as it released another blast.
Malie carries Lani out of the battle, saving him from being drowned, and finds any islands close by. Cayden saw his rider had saved Lani, he turned to the others and gave a sharp, signaling them that Malie had retried Lani.
"All right, guys, get ready!" Moana ordered them.
Tara was standing on the ground before turning into her Lycanwing form and Maui turning into his giant hawk form. Moana quickly tied her hair into a bun as she needed her hair out of the way. "Okay, Cayden, lead it out to the ocean. Yasmina. Try and create a fog to separate it from them." Moana explained the plan.
"Of course." Yasmina said with a nod.
With that, the dragons and Maui took off to help the riders that fell on the ocean by the Purple Death tail. They quickly resurfaced through the water with a loud gasp of air as they tried to get out of the water but was cut off when the Purple Death loomed down at them with an angry growl.
"Oh, gods, we're gonna die!" Snotlout cries out in fear.
The riders and their dragons brace for impact as the Purple Death charged up to release a powerful fire but was stopped when a blast of fire hit it from behind, surprising the giant dragon and the others. Coming out from behind was none other than the Sky Destroyer! The riders and dragons were shocked and surprised to see him again.
"Where did that come from? And why is it helping us?" Snotlout exclaimed in shock and surprise but a hint of relief.
"I don't know, but I have a feeling that the Sky Destroyer has a bone to pick with the Purple Death." Hiccup explained his theory the best way he could.
The Sky Destroyer aka Cayden roared at the Purple Death, taunting him that he may be big, but he isn't fast enough to chase after him. Angered, the Purple Death roared and chased after Cayden, ignoring the human and dragons on the water and created waves in the process as it chased after Cayden.
"It's leaving!" Astrid said in relief as the dragons and Sandstorm got out of the water.
"That's a relief!" Snotlout exclaimed happily.
"What now, Hiccup?" Fishlegs asked the Night Fury rider.
Before Hiccup could respond, a heavy fogbank appeared before them, they couldn't see the Sky Destroyer or the Purple Death, all they could hear is the roar of both dragons, duking it out.
"What the?" Hiccup whispered in shock. "Where did the fog come from?"
"Who cares?! As long as the Sky Destroyer keeps that thing away from Berk, we get to live!" Snotlout exclaimed happily.
"Yeah, but-"
"Hiccup, we don't have time for this, we need to find Lani." Astrid suddenly said, making Hiccup realize about their fallen friend. "We don't know where he is, and Sandstorm is getting worried." She gestures the Sand Wraith, who was roaring about, searching for her rider.
Hiccup knew that Astrid was right, but part of him wanted to chase after the Purple Death and the Sky Destroyer, to see who would win the battle royal, and figure out if they could be tamed. But the main priority is to find Lani and see if he was okay. They took off to the sky and searched for him, leaving Cayden with the Purple Death.
Speaking of which, the Purple Death was chasing Cayden through the open water, firing powerful streams of fire at him, but he dodged with ease. Cayden faces the Purple Death and releases a fireball at it, exploding on its face, making the Purple Death roar in pain. Cayen zoomed out of the way before the Purple Death could snap its powerful jaws at him, but missed. Then a red powerful stream of fire appeared and blasted the Purple Death from behind. The Alpha dragon roared again in pain as it turned around and was shocked to see a Goldenheart dragon coming its way with two humans on her back. The Purple Death didn't know what's going on before he heard a loud yell.
"CHEE-HOO!"
A powerful force knocked the giant dragon down to the water, creating a big wave that sank a giant sea stack. The Purple Death looked up and saw a human with a giant fish hook that somehow knocked it down before turning to a Giant Hawk. Other dragons soon joined the fight and released their firepower on it, making it more and more angry.
"What's wrong with it?! Why is it so mad?!" Coral yelled out, holding on to her best friend.
"I don't know! Purple Deaths are docile creatures when they're not disturbed its slumber!" Gil exclaimed through the wind.
"Well, it looks pretty grumpy to me!" Maui exclaimed through the wind.
Moana observes the Purple Death, who roared in rage, and thinks what was wrong with it. As she scans the Purple Death, she notices something glimmering between the huge coral shell-like scales. Moana had a feeling whatever was under its scales was the reason for its rampage.
"Guys, I have a crazy idea that you need to trust me on this!" Moana said to them loudly.
"What is it?!" Hawk Maui exclaimed.
"Keep it distracted!" Moana said before making Aliikai do a dive towards the giant dragon.
"Moana!" Keoni called out to his girlfriend in shock.
"Keoni, come on!" Tara yelled in his mind before she and the others made the distraction to keep it out of both Moana's and Aliikai's reach.
Aliikai did a divebomb towards the Purple Death, who was busy fighting off Moana's friends and dragons, before Moana did the utmost crazy idea. She jumped off her dragon and grabbed the edge of the one of the scales of the Purple Death. She yelped as she held the scale when the Purple Death started swinging around. Moana did her best not to fall off as she searches for the source of where the glimpse came from. Moana saw it above her and started climbing. She yelps when the Purple Death started thrashing around while releasing a powerful blast of fire. Grunting, Moana held on with all her might as she reached towards the source. She grabbed hold of what appears to be something metal and pulled it out for what strength she had left.
The Purple Death felt something sharp between his scales and released a powerful roar that echoed through the sky. Everyone did their best to stay airborne but to their horror, the Purple Death dives back to the water, creating a big splash.
"MOANA!" They all yelled in horror along with the dragons.
Moana meanwhile was holding on to her dear life, not letting go off the dragon as she tried to pull whatever was stuck between its scales. She held her breath as the dragon went deeper and deeper through the water. Moana felt herself losing as the Purple Death swims deeper and deeper. She had to move fast if she wanted to breathe air again. Moana did her best to pull the object out, grunting and struggling in the process. However, it didn't take long until the Ocean gave her a boost by giving her enough force to pull it out from the dragon.
The Purple Death roared in surprise as he felt the annoying pain out of his scales. He stopped briefly and turned towards the source where the pain used to be. To his surprise and annoyance, he saw a human girl that was with the second group of humans. She appears to be holding an old, worn out sword. Moana saw the look on the Purple Death's eyes, knowing that he might not like seeing her holding the sword. The young girl lets go of the sword and let it sink to the bottom of the ocean. Seeing this, the Purple Death looks back towards Moana, who was doing her best to hold her breath, before opening his mighty jaw to release a powerful roar and making Moana's eyes widen in fear.
Meanwhile, the others we worry about Moana and Aliikai were about to go in to save her, but something happened. Exploding out of the water was the Purple Death, who released a powerful roar. And sitting on his head was Moana! She was holding on to his horn as her life depended on it. Everyone was relief to see her, especially Aliikai. She made a roar of delight as she flew over to her sister, ignoring the Purple Death looking at her, as she hovered in front of her sister's face and licked her happily.
"Okay! Okay! Calm down, Ali!" Moana laughed in delight as she held her dragon sister's face gently. "I'm okay, girl. We all are."
Aliikai croons at her happily before looking at Purple Death with suspicion in her eyes. The Purple Death may be calm but that doesn't mean she has to keep her guard down. Makaio flies over to them, keeping his distance from the Purple Death as Keoni was relieved to see his girlfriend okay.
"Moana! You're okay." He said in relief.
Moana sighs a bit and nods her head. "Yeah, sorry for the sudden scare. I didn't have time to explain." She said sheepishly.
"No worries, Moana." Tara said in her mind as she flew behind Keoni and Makaio. "And besides, you got this big purple guy to calm down." The Purple Death growled at her in response. "Yeah, yeah, you know what I mean!"
Moana and Keoni laughed at her before Moana gasped in realization. "MALIE! WE FORGOT ABOUT MALIE!"
"Augh, scales! We left her to help that Lanny guy." Tara said.
"Lani." Nasir corrected her.
"Who cares." She mutters out.
"I do." Moana said in concern. "Aliikai, go find Malie. Cayden, Tara, Maui, you guys go with her, she might need back up."
"On it!" Hawk Maui said before he, Aliikai, Cayden, and Tara left to find Malie.
Speaking of Malie, the young mermaid was on the beach, sitting next to an unconscious Lani. He doesn't look like he was going to wake up soon. Malie-in her mermaid form-looked at him in concern as she saw him slowly breathing. She hoped that he's okay. As the clouds leave, revealing the sunlight, Malie gently brushes off the strand of hair from Lani's face. She prayed to the gods to help Lani to wake. She snapped out of her thoughts when she heard beating wings. Looking up, she saw Cayden, Aliikai, Tara, and Maui coming her way. Both Tara and Maui turned into their human form and went over to her with Aliikai. Cayden stod besides his rider and gently nuzzles her, who in return patted his snout.
"Yo, Mal! You okay?" Tara asked, going over to her mermaid friend.
"Yeah, I'm fine, but I'm worried about Lani." Malie said in concern as she looked at Lani.
Maui bends down and opens Lani's eyelid. "It's hard to say." Maui mutters before letting go and puts his ear against Lani's chest and hears something. "Wait! There's a heartbeat. He's alive."
Maui withdrew from Lani, who groans in his sleep. "He's so…peaceful." She whispers to her friends, smiling at Lani.
Both Tara and Maui looked at each other. Tara has her arms crossed as she gestured towards Malie and Lani. And her response from Maui was a shrug. Suddenly, Cayden gently nudges Malie from behind, getting the others attention, before making small grunts and shaking his head in response. Malie gently strokes his head.
"I know, Cayden." Malie whispers softly. "Vikings and Mermaids can't be together."
"Wait, what? Why?" Tara asked in confusion.
"It's a long history." Maui said to Tara, causing the Lycanwing girl to look at the Demigod. "But many years ago, Vikings hunted and kidnapped mermaids to sell them to tyrants that wanted to make them as brides. Creating a war that lasted centuries. That's why mermaids went into hiding, preventing a war."
"Oh, so that's why." Tara said in sympathy.
"Yes, Vikings and merpeople had a dark history, but…but Lani isn't like them. He's…he's special." Malie said softly as she gently strokes Lani's face, a smile crept on her face. The group watched as the young mermaid looked at the unconscious Viking boy.
(Part of Your World (Reprise) by Jodi Benson from The Little Mermaid)
What would I give to live where you are?
What would I pay to stay here beside you?
What would I do to see you smiling at me?
Aliikai and Mini-Maui made small smiles at the cute scene while Maui and Tara just looked at her in unsureness. But Cayden, on the other hand, made a disapproving look. His protective father instincts were kicking in as he didn't like to see his rider being with a Viking boy.
Where would we walk, where would we run
If we could stay all day in the sun?
Just you and me, and I could be…
Part of your world
Lani slowly opened his eyes as he held Malie's hand. He saw the blurry image of Malie, smiling down at him as she sang, while the sunlight shines behind her. But she looked up when she heard something coming their way.
"We have to go." Tara said quietly before she dived in the water with Maui, who turned into fish. Malie withdrew from Lani, who tried to reach out to her, before she dived in while Cayden and Aliikai took off quickly, making sure to not be seen as Lani slowly got up.
The Dragons Riders came when Sandstorm tracked her rider. They found him on a small island just far from where they fought the Purple Death before it disappeared. They landed and Sandstrom rushed over to her rider and licked him happily, making Lani smile.
"Lani! Thank Thor you're okay!" Hiccup said in relief as he and the others got off their dragons.
"Yeah! You took a hit on the head like a Thorston!" Tuffnut said with a grin.
"What happened?" Astrid asked as she and Hiccup helped him up.
"I…I saw Malie…" Lani began as he looked out at the ocean. "She…she rescued me and…she was…singing." Lani said with a soft sigh as he withdrew from them and walked a bit. "She had the most…beautiful voice."
Hiccup and Astrid caught him before he could fall on his knees. "Easy, Lani. You probably hallucinated about that." Astrid said to him.
"Yeah, there's no way she could've saved you all the way here." Fishlegs added.
"But…it felt so real." Lani whispers tiredly.
"I think you swallowed a bit too much seawater." Hiccup said to Lani. "We should go and tell my dad about the Purple Death. Come on, Sandstorm."
Sandstorm was looking at the ocean's horizon, as if she saw something, but turned back to the group and went over to her rider to help him get on her back. They were completely unaware that Malie, Aliikai, Tara, Cayden, and Fish Maui were hidden behind a sea stack and rocks, watching them take off and leaving for Berk.
"That was a close one." Tara said with a sigh, hiding behind the rock as her body was half submerged in the water with Fish Maui besides her.
"Tell me about it." Maui said with a sigh. "If those guys ever found out about our existence, who knows what will happen."
Tara notices Malie was still watching the group leave. She was lying on top of the rock as her mind drifted towards Lani. Tara knew that Malie has feelings towards Lani and she hopes that she doesn't get heartbroken. She doesn't want to see her friends sad.
I don't know when, I don't know how
But I know something's starting right now
Watch and you'll see, someday I'll be…
Part of your world!
Okay, sorry it took so long. I had many doubts in posting the story. Plus, I have been re-watching old childhood movies. Don't judge me. Anyways, the Goldenheart dragon belongs to FoxyKhai0209 and the Enchanted Islands belongs to TheGreatGodzilla. The next one will be soon, I thank you all for your patience. Also, thank you for the one who gave the idea about the Purple Death.
