I would like to thank both Trionix Prime and 21 for giving voice actors to Skullcrusher and Grump.
Skullcrusher: Paul Newman
Grump: John Dezső Ratzenberger who played Mack from Cars
Enjoy.
After Tara 'introduced' both Agony and Pain to Hiccup, Gil had to bandage both arms of Berk's heir. And then they went back to Berk to return to the group and rest for a while before returning to Motunui. The people of Motunui helped the Berkians with their ships and farm, and collected herbs for Gothi, much to the healer's joy and gratitude. Moana was discussing Stoick with official trading, like herbs, food, and other important necessities.
"Thank you again for your help, Chief Moana." Stoick said as they, Hiccup, and their dragons walked through the streets of the village.
"It is our pleasure, Chief Stoick." Moana said kindly, heading towards the forge to see Niki playing with Grump. "Niki! Be nice to him!"
"I will!" Niki said while laughing as she and Mango ran around Grump.
"Don't worry, lass! Grump may be lazy, but he's a gentle giant." Gobber assures her, smiling as Niki and Mango play with a sleeping Grump.
Moana smiles at this before Hiccup comes towards her, "By the way, Chief Moana." Hiccup began, getting Moana's attention. "Is it all right to talk to you, in private?"
Moana stared at him suspiciously before slowly agreeing to him, "All right."
Niki and Mango stay with Gobber, who agrees to watch her, as Hiccup, Moana, and their dragons go over to the arena to talk. Their friends are there, getting to know each other. Well, sort of, Nasir was choking both Snotlout and Tuffnut in a headlock, after they were trying to flirt with his sister, again! Anyways, as both Hiccup and Moana went over to their friends, Toothless played around with Aliikai, watching him curiously.
"What is that you want to talk about, Hiccup?" Moana asked him curiously.
Hiccup sighs a bit and looks at Moana, "I just...I just want to know...what's your real reason bringing the dragons back to your region? I mean, you would do anything to bring them there. I just want to know...why? Why go through all that trouble?" He asked Moana, clearly wanting answers.
The Freedom Bringers looked at each other with a worried look, feeling like they have their reason, but it was for the best since they are allies after all. So, taking a deep breath, Moana told her the reason why she and her people are rescuing dragons and bringing them back to their region.
"Okay, we'll tell you all, everything." Moana said to them, "As you know, Te Fiti is a goddess and created every island in our region, right?" Moana said, earning nods from the group, "But what if I told you all that there's more to that."
"What do you mean?" Hiccup asked curiously.
"That the reason why Te Fiti made islands was not just for the humans, but also for the dragons that were made and given to her by Lord Draco." Moana said.
"What?" Astrid asked in shock, as she and the others looked at her and the others with wide eyes, "Really? How come?"
"Well, it all started when Loki stole the Lycanwing creation." Moana began as she recalls the history that Jade told her and her friends when she came to visit. "Lord Draco is the God of All Dragons, so he creates many dragons from other lands."
"Wow! That is so cool!" Fishlegs said in awe.
"And all the dragons that are here are made by Draco." Yasmina added, looking at the dragons, who were playing their dragons, minus both Cayden and Solaria, "And were gifts to the Goddess, Te Fiti."
"Wait...you're saying that...Lord Draco created all the dragons as gifts for Te Fiti?" Heather asked in shock.
"Yup, she made beautiful islands and Lord Draco made the dragons for them to live on her island, as well as being friends with the humans." Moana said to them, "And because they were forced to leave by the darkness, the dragons now live here, and it is our mission to bring them back. So, they could live in peace and no fear from the hunters."
"You said all dragons, right?" Hiccup asked her, earning a nod from the chieftest. "So that means...our dragons...belong to your region."
This shocked the dragon riders as they realize that they have to return their dragons to Te Fiti, but Moana and her friends assure them this, "Don't worry. Te Fiti would never take away your dragons."
"She won't?" Fishlegs asked in relief.
Moana shook her head, "Te Fiti is a kind and gentle goddess, and she knows that you guys form a strong bond with your dragons. Because she understands your bond with them." She explains to the Dragon Riders.
"And because of your bond, Te Fiti nor Draco can separate that, for your dragons' care and cherish you as family." Malie said to them kindly. "And they will never abandon you."
"Yeah, Hookfang would never leave me because he respects me too much, right Hookfang?" Snotlout only receives silence from his dragon as he turns around to see Hookfang flying away. "HOOKFANG!"
"Yeah..." Tara said sarcastically, leaning over the wall with her arms crossed, "He soooo 'respect' you." This made Malie, Coral, and Moana giggled at this, finding Tara's joke amusing while Astrid, Heather, and Ruffnut laughed, and Yasmina held her laughter. "Also, we should get leave soon, we have preparations to make for the nui nā kupuna."
"Tara's right, we have to make final preparations, and get Niki back to hula lessons." Moana said with a smile.
"Where is Niki anyway?" Lani asked curiously.
"She's with Gobber and-" Moana was cut off when she and the others heard Niki's laughter. They all looked up to see Skullcrusher flying above them with Stoick, Niki, and Mango riding him. "Weee! Faster!"
"Energetic one, isn't she?" Skullcrusher joked about, before roaring as he took off even higher.
"Niki!" Lani exclaimed worriedly, fearing that she might fall off.
"Don't worry, Niki has done this before with other dragons...and the occasion of getting scolded by her mom without an adult with her." Maui said as he recalls Niki's mom, scolding her whenever she flies dragons without an adult.
"We should tell my dad first." Hiccup said as they all got on their dragons while Tara and Maui transformed into their Lycanwing and Giant Hawk forms before taking off. They inform Stoick about their departure, and he agrees, knowing that their tradition is important there. So, everyone decided to head back first thing in the morning. Anyways, after preparing their ships, Lani was walking with Sandstorm towards the ships to help out but soon stopped when he saw Niki with some Viking children, they seemed fascinated by her outfit and asked how she got it.
"Hey, Niki!" Lani called out to her.
Niki saw him and waves at him with a wide smile, "Hi, Lani!" She greeted him as he came towards her.
"Making new friends?" Lani questions playfully.
Niki nodded her head, "Yup! They're super nice! Do you think I can bring them to Motunui? So, can I show them the nui nā kupuna?"
"You have to ask Chief Moana first, after all, she's in charge." Lani said with a smile.
"I will!" And with that, Niki runs off with Mango towards the ship with Chief Moana, asking her if she can bring some friends to Motunui. Lani chuckles at Niki, finding her adorable.
"Well...aren't good with kids." Tara's voice came from above. Looking up, Lani saw Tara leaning her back against the sail's mast. "Whatcha up to there, Lars."
"Nothing much, just checking if you guys are ready...also my name is Lani." Lani said, referring to his name.
Tara shrugged, "Meh." She said before sliding down the mast, "Anyways, have ya seen Gobber? I need to ask him if he could hand me some chains."
"Why?" Lani asked her.
"I have my reasons." Tara said to him seriously.
"Okay, okay, I get it. Gobber's at his shop, making some weapons as gifts for the people of Motunui." Lani informs her.
"Good, thanks." Tara said as she walked away.
"Wait, Tara!" Lani catches up to her with Sandstorm following them. "I want to know something..."
"If you're looking for Malie, she's at markets with Coral and Gil." Tara told him as she walked up the stairs.
Lani blushed at this, "That's...that's not it!" Lani exclaimed as they headed towards the village. "I wanted to know about the masked bounty hunter. You mention that you know him somewhere."
Tara thinks as they walk through the village and towards the forge, "Well...truth be told, I think so...it's just...I don't if he's the same guy."
"What do you mean?"
"To be honest, I was just a little girl, so my memory is kind of blurry. But I recall meeting a man like him, I think, when my mom and I were on a trading island." Tara explains the best way she can. "I don't know what his reason was there but...I think I made friends with him and then he taught me things about survival and weapons. And sometimes...sometimes he treats me like a daughter...and I kinda treat him as if he was my father, a real father I mean."
"It's okay to say it. I mean, you long to know what it is like to have a dad after...after what 'you know who' did to you." Lani said, referring to Loki.
"Yeah, but if that jerk of a god ever shows his face here or even traces, I got some choice words to throw on his face!" Tara said through gritted teeth, scaring both Lani and Sandstorm.
"Oooookay..." Lani said, moving away a bit.
"Anyways, what about you?" Tara asked Lani as they headed towards the forge.
"Me?"
"Yeah, you. Since you already know about me and my daddy issues. What was your dad like?" Tara asked him.
Lani chuckles a bit as he remembers the good time he had with his dad before his untimely death, "What's not to like? My dad was amazing. He raised me the best way he can after my mother died when I was three. My dad was all I have left before...before he died from a terrible cold during the worst winter storms when I was only seven."
"Yeesh, I take it someone took you in?"
"Yes, Chief Hallvard of Skerry Island. He took me in as his own and raised me. It was a great living in Skerry Island, making friends, working hard, and becoming the man I am today." Lani said, earning a snort from Tara. "What?"
"Nothin'." Tara snickers a bit, earning a frown from Lani, as they just arrived at Gobber's workshop. "Hey, Gobber!"
Gobber peeks from his window, "Oh, Tara, hello! What can I do for you?"
"Can you make me some small chains? I need them." Tara said to Gobber.
"Sure thing! I'll use a special Gronckle iron to make your necklace." Gobber said in assurance as he went to work.
"So...why do you need it exactly?" Lani asked her, watching as Gobber worked.
Tara looked at him seriously and said, "If I tell you, you better not tell your friends." She threatens Lani.
"I won't, I promise."
Tara crosses her arms and looks up to the sky, "I need chains to make a necklace for my mother."
Lani's eyes widened by this, "For you mother?"
Tara nodded her head, "You see, Motunui is going to have the nui nā kupuna, I want to give something to her as my gift of everything she did for me, and how I am sorry for not saving her in time." Tara answered, remembering her mother's beautiful face and fiery attitude.
Lani felt pity towards her. Guess she does care for one parent, and that was her mother. He barely remembered his mother because she died of a sickness. Leaving his father to raise him alone. He'll never forget sacrifices for him. And how he always misses them.
"Hey...I bet she misses you at Valhalla." Lani said with a kind smile, "She's probably watching you right now and proud to see how her daughter has become."
"Yeah...I bet she is." Tara said before looking at Lani, "So...you also gonna give something to your parents?"
Lani nodded his head, "Yeah. I'm gonna make both necklaces for my parents' family crests. And give it to them, in hopes that we will be together again one day." He explains with a small smile.
"I bet they would." Tara said as she looked at him, "Anyways...what's your parents' name again? You didn't mention them."
"Oh, how silly of me, I keep babbling about how I missed my parents, I forgot to mention their names to you guys." Lani said with an apologetic smile. He then closed his eyes as he remembered both his parents' names. "My mom's name was Ingrid and my dad's name was Iokua."
Tara tilted her head at his father's name, "Your dad's name is... Iokua?" She questions Lani.
"Yup, I know it's strange, but that's my dad's name." Lani said proudly.
"Uh-huh..." Tara said, sounding suspicious.
Just then, Gobber came with a small chain that was sizable to wear. "Here we are! A beautiful Gronckle chain!" He hands it over to Tara, who accepts it.
"Thanks, Gobber, you're always the best craftsman." Tara complimented, earning a smile from Gobber, "How much do I owe you?"
"None of that, lass! After all, your friends helped so much around here. It's the least I could do." Gobber said to her kindly.
Tara smiles at him, "Well, then, thanks so much, Gobber." She said to the blacksmith kindly.
"Hey, Gobber? Is it all right for me to stay here for a while? I need to make some things." Lani asked him.
"Sure thing, lad. What do you need?" Gobber asked him.
"Some woods, that's all, so I carved my parents' family crests." Lani said.
"I have extra logs in the back, I'll bring them to ya." Gobber said, heading towards the back.
"Thanks, Gobber!" Lani said as he was about to go in when he noticed Tara putting a beautiful emerald gemstone on the chains, making it look like a necklace. "Wow, that's beautiful."
"Thanks, emeralds were mom's favorite gemstones." Tara said as she placed the necklace in her satchel. "Welp, gotta meet up with my friends."
"All right!" Lani said as he and Sandstorm left at the forge.
Unaware that Tara got some valuable information from him.
As time passed, and nightfall was slowly coming, Lani was finishing making the necklace of his parents. Two wooden pendants with different symbols. One was a hawk, and the other was a willow tree. The hawk crest was his father's, and his mother's family crest was a willow tree. Lani smiles at his work as he decorates it with some pearls. He wanted to make these gifts great for his parents and all their love and sacrifice they did for him. As he finished, the Freedom Bringers came over to the forge.
"Hey, Lani? Are you busy?" Moana asked him.
"Nope, I just finished adding some final touches." Lani said after finishing adding the pearls on his mother's necklace.
"That's good to hear..." Moana said as she and her friends gave looks to one another, which Lani noticed.
"Is there something wrong?" Lani asked in concern.
"Lani...can we ask about your dad?" Moana asked, glancing over to Tara, who was in her Lycanwing form, and then to him. "Tara told us how you lost both your parents. And we are kind of curious, mostly about your dad."
"My dad? Why?" Lani asked them.
"We're just curious, that's all." Keoni said, standing next to his fiancé. "Can you tell us more about him? How he got here and what he looks like."
"Well...okay. It's kind of weird though since my dad looks at Moana and her people. How he got here was amazing, he told me that years ago, he and his friend tried to sail...a storm came out of nowhere. My dad doesn't know what happened to his friend but…he thinks that he lost him during the storm."
Moana's eyes widen in shock as she slowly realizes what's going on and his story is very similar to how her dad lost his best friend. But she has to make sure. "Lani...do you know your dad's family name?"
"Why? What's going on?" Lani asked, feeling something strange is going on.
"Please, Lani, I just want to know." Moana begged him.
"Um...okay." Lani said, getting looks from the group, "His family's name is Makani." Moana, Aliikai, Keoni, and his sisters gasped in shock, as if this information shocked them. "W-What's wrong?"
"Lani...your father...your father...I don't know how to say this but..." Moana tries to find the right words to say.
"What are you saying, Chief Moana?" Lani asked, feeling something was wrong.
"Lani...your father is a member of the Makani Clan in Motunui." Moana answered, shocking Lani in the process. "And your father, Iokua, was my father's best friend... a member of our people...and that makes you... a member of our people as well."
Hearing this, Lani felt everything around him spin. His mind is racing with thoughts, questions, and wonder. So many questions with so many unanswered questions. Lani could hear everyone calling out to him. His legs were shaking as he tried to stay balanced. But it was difficult with everything that was happening. And the next thing he knew, the world around him turned black.
Few hours later, Lani woke up and found himself on a bed, inside of Gothi's hut. With him were Malie and Sandstorm, both females were worried sick and were sitting by his side. They both were relieved when he finally woke up after he fainted at the workshop.
"Lani! Thank goodness that you're okay." Malie said in relief.
Lani sits up, shaking his head a bit, "What happened?"
"You fainted after Moana told you that your father...is one of their people." Malie answered, feeling sad when Lani lowered his head, "Lani...are you okay?"
"I...I don't know...maybe...I think...it's just...it's just never known…that my dad was one of Moana's people! I always thought of myself as an orphan boy, a boy with nothing."
"Hey, don't say that!" Malie exclaimed, holding his hands. "You are a talented craftsman and friend. You help others in need with no questions asked. And more importantly, you have family at Motunui, who would love to meet you."
"Are you sure about that?" Lani suddenly asked, "I grew up in a Viking land, who killed thousands of dragons."
"But you don't, you haven't killed a single dragon in many years. Instead, you befriended one. And...and they'll be happy to see that parents of father's would be thrilled to see their grandson for the first time." Malie said in assurance.
Lani looks at her with hopeful eyes, thinking her words are true. "You...you think so?"
Malie smiles and holds his hands tightly, "I know so. They'll finally know that their son wasn't killed by the storm. Instead, the ocean saved him and brought you father here, to Berk, where he met wonderful people and married your mother. And had you. They will love you and they will accept you as their own." She said, her voice filled with kindness and truth.
Lani couldn't help but smile at her, feeling grateful to meet a girl like her. He then blushed as he slowly realizes that Malie was holding his hand, who also blushed when she realizes it too. It was kind of embarrassing, but they soon enjoyed each other's company, as they both shared a smile with one another. Sandstorm finds it very romantic to see his rider to be Malie. Her plan of getting her rider to be mates with Malie is almost complete! But before anyone could do anything, they heard a familiar rude redhead interrupting their moment.
"Sooo..." Both Lani and Malie quickly turned towards the open door to see Tara standing there, leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed. "You okay there, Lesly? Still breathin'?"
"Y-Yeah..." Lani stutters, blushing a bit as he and Malie let go of their hands. Not bothering to correct her about his name. "A-Anyways...what do you need?"
"Just checkin' if you're still alive." Tara answered casually, her expression remains neutral, "Also, Moana sent Maui to Motunui and inform about...you know...the recent discovery of another member."
"Oh..." Lani felt his worries returning.
Seeing his worry, Tara, for the first time, assures him, "Don't worry. They'll love you in more ways than one."
"Really?" Lani asked her.
"Sure, just asked Niki, she was overjoyed when she found out that you are her long-lost cousin." Tara said casually.
"What?" Lani looks at her with wide eyes.
"Oh, yeah. Turns out, Iokua is the son of Haku and Dorisa, older brother of Iokina, and uncle of Niki. So...congrats!" Tara said with a grin as Lani made a shock face.
"I'm...I'm Niki's cousin?" Lani whispers in shock. He knew he felt a connection with Niki, but he never thought he was related to her. All this time, his relatives were right in front of him, and he didn't know it until now.
Tara rolled her eyes, "Duh! I just told you. Now, do you have enough strength to get up and walk? Or do I have to drag you out myself."
"N-No thanks! I'm good!" Lani said, knowing very well that Tara can be very dangerous. Lani shakingly gets off the bed, almost falling, but Malie and Sandstorm come to his aid.
"Don't worry, Lani. We're here." Malie said with an assuring smile.
Lani smiles back at her, "Thanks, Malie." He said as they all headed out of Gothi's hut.
They thanked Gothi, who was outside, and then left to meet the others below. The Freedom Bringers told the Dragon Riders about Lani's father being a member of Motunui. Which shocked everyone. Even though Lani's father fit the description, they never gave second thoughts until now. When Lani and the others arrived, Hiccup came over to him.
"You okay there, Lani?" Hiccup asked in concern. "Chief Moana and the others told us about...your father."
Lani nodded his head a bit, "I will be, I guess I fainted by the thoughts of finding out I have a long-lost family from another region." He said sheepishly, a small smile spread across his face.
"Easy for you to say." Tuffnut scoffed a bit as he and his sister were holding shovels. "We've been spending hours digging your grave."
"My...what?" Lani asked in confusion and shock, hearing about this. "W-Why?!"
"We thought you were dead." Ruffnut said casually.
"I just fainted! I didn't really die!" Lani said in annoyance.
"Well, sorry! We thought you were. And so, to honor your passing, we dig you a hole so we can bury you, or place you in a flaming funeral pyre, or a flaming ship." Tuffnut listed out the possible things they would do, earning a frown from Lani.
"What is wrong with you people?" Lani mutters out.
"A lot of things." Tara said before noticing something at a distance, "Also, incoming."
"What do you mean by-OPHM!" Lani grunted out when Niki came charging straight towards him, tackling him with a hug.
"You're my Ohana!" Niki exclaims happily.
"Oh-what?" Lani coughs out, feeling air escaping from his lungs.
Moana smiles and shakes her head. "Ohana, means family and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten." She said to Lani, who looked at her after catching his breath.
"You mean..."
Niki smiles at him, "You're family! I always wanted to have an older cousin!" Niki laughs happily, "You're coming with us, right? 'Cause mommy will be super happy! Even gramma and grampa!"
Lani stayed silent, realizing that he will meet Niki's family again. Even though they just meant, he felt a connection, but he isn't sure how they will react about him being related to them. But his worries soon vanished when Niki was giving him an innocent look and wide eyes. So...yeah, he can't say no to that. Ever.
So, with a sigh, Lani smiled at Niki and nodded his head, "Yes. I'll be joining and meet yo-our family."
"YAY!" Niki cheers happily with Sandstorm, happy about this as well.
One the next day, Lani was sitting on one of the boats that was heading towards Motunui. Sandstorm was crooning at him gently, trying to support and comfort her rider. She doesn't want him to feel anxious when seeing his family. Even though he did, he still felt nervous in meeting them after he learned that they are his relatives. Lani felt his stomach steering as if he wanted to throw up.
"You better not throw up in the ocean." Tara said from behind, startling both Lani and Sandstorm in the process. "'Cause it is considered rude in their culture."
"S-Sorry..." Lani apologizes, trying to keep calm. "I know I met them before but...it feels like...it feels like I'm going to uncharted waters again."
"Yeesh, you know, if I were in your shoes right now, I'll be over thrilled to know I have family there." Tara said to Lani. "I mean, my mom has no relatives, and my dad, I don't even care! Well...I respect the gods, not my dad. But the point is, you have to swallow your fears and meet your relatives. Like how you met them before. And if you don't, I will drag you to them myself."
"H-Hey! Let's not get too extreme!" Lani said fearfully, not wanting to be embarrassed in front of his relatives.
"Good, now, look alive, we're almost there." Tara said, looking at the distance to see the Island of Motunui, "Get ready to see your relatives."
Lani gulped nervously as they sailed closer to Motunui. As all the boats landed, they all saw the people waiting for them. In front of the crowd were Maui and Tui. The Demigod informed Tui about Lani's father being his long-lost friend. Telling him that he wasn't killed by the ocean. But rather he was saved and was brought to the Norse Region, whereupon he married Ingrid and lived at Berk, and had Lani together. But soon both of them died differently, leaving Lani alone and was raised by Chief Hallvard. When Moana and her friends got off the boat, Lani came last, and was now facing a very shocked and saddened Tui. Lani stares back at him, feeling worried and dreading what's going to happen. No one moved nor said anything, like a rock was blocking both of them. However, the tension soon stopped when Tui finally spoke.
"Is it...is it true?" Tui questions Lani hopefully, eyes that show a brink of tears, "That you are... Iokua's son?"
Lani, who hesitated, nodded his head slowly. "Yes..." He whispers out, "I am his son."
"Are...are you sure?" Tui asked, wanting to know if he wasn't dreaming.
"He is, dad, Lani is Iokua's son." Moana said, looking at Lani. "Show him the necklace."
Nodding, Lani took out the necklace that revealed the symbol of his father's family crest. This shocked Tui very much, only Iokua knows his family crest. "My dad..." Lani began, getting Tui's attention, "My dad told me how he got to Berk. He said that he and his friends were trying to sail to the ocean...but a storm came out of nowhere...separated them both. Dad never knew about his friend. But he said that he was his brother."
And with that, Tui's eyes began to water as he hugged Lani, shocking the male teen, as the former chief of Motunui embraced his best friend's son.
"You are his son." Tui said quietly.
Lani smiles and hugs back Tui, feeling that burden of regret that Tui carried slowly vanished. And as they let go, Iokina, Haku and Dorisa came over, eyes filled with tears as they looked at Lani. The blonde male looked at them and was about to speak, but was cut off when Iokina hugged him tightly, shocking him in the process.
"Welcome home, Lani." Iokina whispers out, crying gently.
"Yes, welcome home." Haku agrees as he and his wife hugged their long-lost grandson.
Lani couldn't stop the tears from falling from his eyes as he embraced his relatives. Lani is no longer alone in the world. He found his father's family. And he will never forget his father's sacrifice as he will protect them with his life. The Freedom Bringers and the Dragon Riders watched with a smile as Lani was reunited with his long-lost relatives. Ruff and Tuff were crying their eyes out while Snotlout did his best not to cry but failed miserably.
"It looks like his journey is about to begin." Yasmina said, getting her friends' attention, "For he is the key to reunite the two worlds to one."
"What do you mean?" Hiccup asked in confusion.
"We'll find out soon, but first..." Moana smiles as Niki runs towards her family, joining in the hug, "Let's enjoy the celebration and let Lani be with his family."
And with the suggestion, everyone agreed that Lani deserves this moment.
Sorry if it's short, didn't have time to think, but I hope you guys liked it.
