Chapter 3: The Dark Tower's Hidden Treasure, Part Two

In the Kyoudou household...

"It seems that you, Kyoudou Tsutomu-san, were the first to find the victim.'" Megure started his questioning.

"It seems so." Tsutomu nodded.

"Why were you there?" Megure asked.

"The watercress." Tsutomu answered. "I was checking the watercress; I use them for food. I'm cultivating them near the tower. "The watercress' aoi color makes the food lively."

"Strange." Ran frowned.

"Did you find the Detective Boys?" Nanami inquired.

"Senpai, I'm calling Conan, but..." Ran shook her head.

"Nobody saw them leave the gates." Nanami added.

"Could they have..." Ran realized. "Maybe they resumed the treasure hunt? Dad."

"Where are you when you heard the scream?" Megure turned the questioning to Nozomu.

"I was near the roses." Nozomu answered. "I was looking for her because I wanted to persuade her again."

"You knew right away where your wife was after she screamed?" Megure asked. "The roses and pathway was close, but you arrived really quick."

"That because I heard the scream from a high place." Nozomu explained. "The only tall building there is the tower. So I thought she fell from the tower."

"From a tower with no entrance?" Megure pressed.

"I went on impulse, so I didn't think much." Nozomu argued.

"What?" Mouri echoed once Ran informed him. "The kids disappeared?"

"We searched everywhere, but we couldn't find them." Nanami remarked.

"Maybe they went home?" Mouri suggested.

"I called their homes and they said they didn't come home." Ran refuted.

"What a bunch of hopeless kids." Mouri scoffed.

"Let's go look again." Nanami insisted. If we ask Nagase-san, he should know places I don't know."

"Bad news." Takagi reported in. "Nagase-san has disappeared."

Outside the garden...

"It seems Conan and the kids haven't been seen in the house." Megure noted. "Nagase-san, too."

"The only place we didn't search is inside the tower of darkness." Mouri pointed out.

"Nagase must have known that the previous owner hid treasure inside." Nozomu concluded.

"I still can't believe it." Tsutomu rebuked. "To think my dreams were actually true."

"That doesn't matter." Nanami snapped. "I'll be happy as long as the kids are safe."

"We must hurry." Megure declared. "Please help cooperate on finding the entrance."

Below the Tower of Darkness...

"Yes, Megure speaking?" Megure took the phone call. "Mizuno-san?"

"Inspector, the severe indentation behind the deceased's skull indicated a fall from a high-rise point." Ami informed. "The bruises on the deceased's back have been confirmed to be caused by her back landing on the ground. The lack of hand-print bruises on the deceased's back also suggests there was no foul play; this was an accident."

"Understood." Megure nodded.

"Everybody, up here!" Conan shouted down. "Wait there. The button to open the front entrance is red." he ran back to the tower and pressed the red button.

"Earthquake?" Mouri gaped when the ground started shaking.

"No, it's not it, Mouri." Megure corrected.

"The Tower of Darkness is rising." Nanami realized.

"The entrance was there?" Mouri blinked when the tower moved up one level.

In the Tower of Darkness...

"Welcome to the Tower of Darkness." Conan shouted from the top.

"Kid, come down here this instance." Mouri snapped.

"Oji-san, there is something I want to show you, so could you come up here?" Conan requested.

"Maybe they found the treasure?" Ran suggested.

"Probably." Nanami agreed.

"Treasure?" Mouri got all excited. "Coming right now."

Just as Mouri reached the top, Conan shot his tranquilizer dart at the older man's neck. "Sorry for the commotion." he used Mouri's voice. "It was because I realized the truth behind this case. It is as Mizuno-san confirmed; the case isn't a murder, but a mere accident. It wasn't as simple as her slipping. She found the entrance, made her way up and arrived at the three buttons. First, she must have opened the door, in order to get some light in. Conan, are you there?"

"I'm here, oji-san." Conan stepped out form behind the wall. "I got it." he leaned close to Mouri, as if listening to his further instructions. "Then she, pressed a button; a blue one." he continued using Mouri's voice, after pushing the door wide open and hiding behind it. "Sorry, but I still haven't seen what would happen after pressing the blue button. Something did occur. From that something, she fell. That is what I speculated. Conan, press it. The blue button, right?" he switched back to his normal voice and ran back in.

A streak of rainbow-colors light shot form the rod on the rooftop and an image a laughing Seitarou's head appeared in mid-air. The head then enlarged, closing in on Conan, Megure and Takagi, before vanishing in a shower of rainbow-colored lights.

"I wouldn't be surprised if she fell thinking there would be treasure here and this scared her." Megure gawked. "Holograms, huh? This must be high-tech."

"It was built 40 years ago?" even Takagi was astonished.

"Mathematically, we knew it's possible." Conan pointed out. "A laser to create holograms in1971... that's what it said on TV." he stammered, seeing the blank-out faces on Megure and Takagi.

"I'm sorry to say, but she got surprised by the hologram." Megure reported back to the Kyoudou family. "Then she fell off. We can conclude it's a tragic accident."

"The treasure was just her wild dreams?" Nozomu scoffed. "I'm deeply sorry for the trouble."

"But, it's strange." Nanami frowned. "According to your memory, the blue button is supposed to reveal the treasure, right?

"I heard from Kogoro-oji-san about why she pressed the wrong button." Conan supplied.

"A mistake?" Ran echoed. "Didn't she press the blue button?"

"Onii-san, you referred to the green vegetables as blue vegetables, right?" Conan asked Tsutomu.

"You said that watercress were aoi." Megure recalled.

"She misunderstood." Tsutomu insisted. "I said blue button, but I was referring to the green button."

"There certainly are a lot of people saying aoi as green." Megure admitted. "The victim mistook aoi as blue. We could say it was a tragedy caused by the Japanese language."

"I wonder what would have happen if Mama pressed the green button." Nanami mused.

"It was something the previous owner wanted to show Tsutomu-san." Nagase interjected.

"As expected, you guys are all okay." Conan smiled, seeing the other Detective Boys safe and sound.

"What's your problem, Nagase?" Nozomu demanded. "You knew everything and kept it a secret."

"The previous owner said that Nozomu would demolish the tower if he knew the truth." Nagase replied. "He counted on me until Tsutomu became the leader. But he said that Tsutomu-san had no desire to become the leader. He forgot the words from when he was a child. Thinking he would remember, I came back to the Tower of Darkness to fix it."

"That's the last button, right?" Conan asked. "The green one."

"It's the last one." Nagase nodded. "It's the last one the previous owner left as a treasure."

"Is it okay if I pressed that button?" Conan requested.

With the green button pressed, the cover that shielded the ceiling slid open to reveal a array of rainbow colors, turning the interior of the tower into a massive kaleidoscope.

"This is the dream that Grandpa made." Tsutomu was awed.

"Dad." Nanami glared. "Are you going to destroy this? Kyoudou's treasure?"

"I, the Sandaime, won't allow it." Tsutomu declared. "I promised Grandpa I would make Kyoudou a dream factory."
