Chapter 02
The sound of the explosions outside shook inside the Wunder, but for Shinji, that wasn't the problem, but the way Misato spoke to him, the coldness and anger in her voice, what was going on here? Slowly the man stood up and began to walk around his cell, but his mind was screaming asking why?
"I saved Rei, that's all..." Said the man to the walls, slowly he touched his face, feeling his beard that he never remembered having, with the other hand he went through his long hair, it was like waking up in another body, turning around and going to the small mirror that was in the corner, Shinji could take a good look at himself.
"Why am I older?" The man asked himself, sure it was him, a bad feeling taking over his body as he saw a slight resemblance to his father, but that wasn't the priority right now, it was how things had gotten to this point.
His eyes soon fell on the choker that was tightly fastened around his neck; he tried to remove it, but to no avail.
"What's that!?" Complained the man as he became bored, the metal of the choker was tightly stuck to his skin, almost to the point of starting to suffocate him.
"Why is Misato treating me like a prisoner?" Again he asked himself sadly, touching his face he thought of everything he had experienced in the past, even though she wasn't his blood family, he felt good around these people, so why?
Soon he remembered Asuka, his hand trembled as he remembered the feeling of unit 01 destroying unit 03, he closed his eyes to control the emotion that wanted to come out, but now was not the time to cry, but to stay calm, at least Asuka was alive.
The day passed slowly for him, there was nothing to distract him, no sound other than the ventilation system, he sat in the corner of his cell and waited, like this for long hours.
"Stand up!" A man ordered in a very cold voice, Shinji looked at his face, he had the same look as everyone else, anger, why was he angry with me? Shinji thought as he tried to come to a plausible conclusion, but slowly he stood up.
"Hands back!" The man ordered again, Shinji nodded as he did so, he was afraid, he could feel his hands being tightly bound, he let out a slight sound as he felt his wrists hurting from the pressure, then Sakura's voice caught his attention, she was calm and reassuring.
"You don't need that, it could hurt."
The man let out a sigh when he heard this, and angrily spoke to the young medical trainee.
"I don't care if that murderer loses his hands!"
"Murderer?" Shinji thought apprehensively as he heard this, feeling even more confused by the accusations.
"Why?"
Sakura wanted to say something, but she knew that her words wouldn't have the desired effect. She slowly approached Shinji and took his arm, she could see that he wasn't a danger to her.
"Let's go, Ikari, Colonel Katsuragi has requested your presence." She said as meekly as possible, Shinji showed no resistance as he went on his way, his head down so as not to catch the deadly look he received from the guard.
"What's going on?" Repeated the man as he spoke to no one through the corridors of the Wunder, Sakura's grip lightly on his arm guiding him along the way, she was using alternative routes to avoid crossing paths with any of the crew, finally they entered the large room, Shinji looked ahead to see a large glass window seeing his reflection, with a single metal chair in the center, calmly he walked over to it.
Sitting down and waiting, Shinji looked around to try to understand everything that was happening, he felt his breathing quicken with the mystery that surrounded him, soon the glass changed shape revealing the people on the other side, he would have felt some joy at seeing Misato and Ritsuko, some familiar face, but they weren't happy.
Ritsuko was sitting up front with a cigarette in her fingers and an old computer in her hands. She was typing quickly to gather some information, only she ignored everyone around her as she worked.
Misato leaned against the wall and crossed her arms, her mind thinking about the battle they had finally managed to win with Wunder's new power, but why had she spoken like that to Shinji? She looked at the man who once lived in her house, he was afraid, it upset her, even though his external figure didn't reveal it.
She noticed Shinji's hands behind his back, she knew the guards must have put handcuffs on Shinji, she knew he wasn't a real danger in that room, she spoke calmly and authoritatively to the new doctor inside Wunder.
"You can let him go Sakura." Misato ordered calmly, slowly the young doctor walked over to Shinji, she could see how tightly the handcuffs were fastened on Shinji's wrists, she could see the bruised skin underneath, calmly she took the keys and released him, being saddened to see his bruises.
Shinji brought his wrists forward as he massaged them calmly, but soon his eyes fell on Misato, his former guardian and family, or so he thought in the past, a bad feeling rising in his mouth at the thought that it was nothing more than a big hoax to control the pilots.
Ritsuko looked at Shinji, and could see him looking at Misato sadly. She let out a long sigh as she thought about how all this must be for the boy.
"I think you might be looking for some answers." The doctor spoke with her traditional calm, Shinji looked at her, smiling slightly as he wondered if he should continue, then his eyes fell on the young doctor next to him, knowing that this could be useful to create a small bond of trust.
"First of all, why don't you introduce yourself as a Suzuhara resident?"
"Suzuhara?" Shinji says confusedly, looking away.
"Yes, let me introduce myself to you, I'm Sakura Suzuhara, I'm in my medical residency here at Wunder." Said the girl as she bowed slightly, remembering her conversations with Toji about Shinji.
"Sakura? Are you Toji's younger sister?" Shinji asked as he briefly remembered the girl when his friend told him about her.
"Yes, I'm grown up now."
"Grown up?" Shinji spoke even more confusedly, Ritsuko quickly looking at him as he answered the man's mental question.
"It's been seven years since those days."
"What?" Shinji said shocked at feeling this way, but at least one thing made sense, he had gotten older and that was the only plausible answer.
"Yes, you ended up being absorbed in the last battle against the angels and have only just returned." Said the doctor as professionally as she could at a time like this.
Shinji sat up heavier in his chair, his hand to his face as he digested this information, it was no wonder everyone was suspicious of him, could this get any worse? The man thought with slight fear and despair.
"My God, I've lost seven years of my life."
"Yes, unfortunately yes... you are now a twenty-two-year-old man." Said the doctor as she knocked some ash from her cigarette onto the floor, but now she had more important things to talk to Shinji about, turning around and speaking in the most 'serious' voice she could manage at a time like this.
"What do you remember?" The doctor asked, picking up a small notepad.
Shinji thought about what he was going to say. He quickly recalled the fight against the last angel and calmly began to say everything that came into his mind.
"I... I was in one of the shelters, I remember unit 02 falling against the wall, a woman spoke to me that an angel was winning the fight, she somehow managed to convince me to go back to NERV..." Shinji spoke in a deep voice, Ritsuko nodded slightly as she wrote small notes, Misato let out a long sigh as she remembered that day.
Shinji touched his face as he thought even more.
"I remember running to get to the cages, my father was trying to use the dummy system but she wouldn't accept it, that's when I managed to convince him to let me fly it."
"Go on." The blonde spoke naturally, she looked down already knowing these details, she just wanted to do it as a formality, the real information was approaching, Shinji looked down remembering the battle.
"I remember meeting the angel in the command center and I managed to get him to the surface again, our fight was heavy, but... my EVA ran out of battery, but I still had a small power source for the monitor to keep working, that's when I saw him devouring unit 00."
Ritsuko stopped writing, she knew the workings of the EVAS to know that when they shut down nothing else worked so how could Shinji see? Sighing to get back to her main objective, she calmly waited for the rest of the story.
"When you say 'devouring', what do you mean?"
Shinji remembered the images, he spoke in a soft voice.
"I remember seeing the angel open a huge mouth, swallow the 00 unit up to its shins, chew it up and spit the head out, I felt shocked by the sight."
Misato closed her eyes as she remembered, she feared for Rei's life at that moment, soon her eyes fell on Shinji again, she watched him carefully, she could see that he was still the honest young man from before, knowing that he was in this situation hurt her deeply.
"I remember being angry, I wished I could save Rei, I'd already lost Asuka, I couldn't lose her too." Sakura looked at Shinji with pity and sadness, but she couldn't deny that her attention was firmly on the story he was telling, she could see that it was all true.
"I... I don't know how, but I managed to turn the EVA back on... I felt good, strong." Shinji spoke of his feelings at the moment the third impact had started, everyone looked at him at this point, but he didn't know what it meant.
With nostalgic eyes, Shinji continued his recollections. "I was angry, I wanted to finish off the angel, he was going to give me Ayanami back, I couldn't lose anyone else... so I went all out against him."
Shinji opened his eyes when he saw everyone looking at him. Knowing that he had to continue, he said everything he remembered.
"I remember fighting with strength and determination, I looked for the entry plug through the angel's body... after that I don't really know what happened." Shinji said calmly as he touched his face, the memories were a little strange.
"No problem, tell me what you remember, no matter if it's strange or not." Ritsuko spoke as she smoked again, she looked back to see Misato tense up in the corner, this was a very delicate subject for her.
Shinji took a deep breath.
"I think I managed to find the entry plug, but I don't remember what I did with it, after that I felt a sensation behind my head, as if something was pulling me towards a light, inside the entry plug, I could see the environment around me, it felt like I was flying or floating I don't know... but I was feeling good, as good as I've ever felt before." Shinji spoke as he remembered, his memories really were confused.
"After that it was as if I had fallen asleep, little by little I became lighter, but I didn't feel afraid, it was calm and peaceful... after that I don't remember anything else, just a nightmare." Shinji says confusedly as he touches his face again.
"Nightmare?" Ritsuko asked curiously, her cigarette burning slowly in her hands.
"No problem, you can tell us how it was."
Shinji nodded, then spoke calmly, not imagining that this was an interrogation.
"Yes, I remember being in space, people had abandoned me there to rot, there were angels outside wanting to get me, but..." Shinji spoke as he felt ashamed, but he knew he had to.
"I remember Asuka coming up to me and picking me up, she asked for my help and I helped her, after that I don't remember anything else, just waking up here."
Taking the cigarette into her mouth again, the doctor took a long drag while thinking about where to start, she looked at Misato who gave her a slight nod, Shinji had noticed this, he was starting to get scared of what was going to be revealed.
Sakura looked at Shinji carefully, wanting to see any sign that he was lying, this information was different from the official information given by Wunder and one thing she didn't like, she hated being manipulated or deceived.
"So Shinji, let's start by saying that you managed to save Ayanami..." The blonde began, and she could see that Shinji had become agitated by the information.
"Her input plug was found in the geofront a few hours after the fight, she was bruised, but well... now she's in my living room being my personal assistant."
"Thank God." Shinji was relieved, but something told him that this wasn't the main issue.
"Unfortunately, the fight didn't go the way you remember." Said the doctor when she became serious.
"What?" Shinji said, afraid of the answer, how could his memories be wrong?
"What happened?"
"Third impact." Misato spoke seriously and coldly from the corner of the room, Shinji looked at her skeptically, he didn't want to believe his former guardian's words.
"Third impact? No, I remember defeating the angel!" Shinji says agitatedly.
"You did kill the angel, but you ended up causing the third impact." Ritsuko spoke seriously as she showed some system images, showing the awakened form of unit 01 rising into the sky.
"Unfortunately you caused the awakening of unit 01 and were the catalyst for the event, that's why you're wearing this choker."
"No, I wouldn't make an impact, an EVA doesn't have that power." Shinji says in disbelief.
"That's a lie! And get it off me!" Shinji shouted as he tried to remove the metal choker. Next to him, Sakura wanted to do something, but he remained still, she only whispered.
"Let's not remove Mr. Ikari."
Shinji turned to the doctor, but Ritsuko continued her lesson without even caring.
"That on your neck is a choker called DSS, it's designed to create a concentrated AT camp and end your life."
Shinji was in shock at this point, staring ahead as he felt that people really did believe that he had done all this, that he was a murderer as the guard had accused him of being.
Misato looked at Shinji to see his reaction, she couldn't deny that she felt sorry for him, but now she couldn't do anything else, feeling her heart burn, she closed her eyes.
"This can only be a nightmare!" Shinji said as he sat down again, looking at everyone around him, his voice becoming desperate.
"You can't believe that I would cause such a thing!" Said the man with panic in his voice.
"I would never do that!"
"Unfortunately that's what happened Shinji, that's why we're suspicious of you, we found out that NERV had plans to cause third impact and you did just that, what did you expect?" Ritsuko said as she began to lose her temper.
"What!?" Shinji shouted as he was confused, weren't they NERV? What do you mean your father wanted to make an impact? It was getting even more confusing.
"I can't believe it!"
"Believe what you want." A female voice called out in the background, Shinji looked at the door as he recognized Asuka, even though she was older, her beautiful red hair still retained all its glory, standing up and leaning on the glass wall, Shinji was happy.
Asuka looked into the face of the man she had once felt something for, and still did, but now what she felt was resentment, a resentment especially after he had done nothing to help when she needed him most, releasing her hands from his blouse, she approached with heavy steps.
"Asuka! I'm so happy to see you alive!" Shinji said relieved to see her well, so happy that he ignored her approaching with a strong frown on his face. When she was close enough to the glass, she raised her hand in a closed fist and with all her strength punched the glass wall.
Shinji's eyes widened when he saw this attitude, finally realizing the redhead's anger at him. Sitting back in his chair, he spoke confused and dejected.
"Asuka?"
Recovering from the small outburst of anger, she looked at Shinji's face, seeing all the confusion on his face. Shinji focused on her beautiful face, and soon he noticed the eye patch on her.
"What happened to your eye?"
Asuka wanted to say that it was his fault, his cowardice, but she kept it to herself, she spoke coldly, she wanted to know why Shinji hadn't helped her that day, she never knew about the Dummy system.
"That's none of your business."
Feeling that she was losing the battle against her emotions, Asuka turned to leave, she just wanted to be able to look into Shinji's eyes as she wanted to take revenge on him, passing by Misato, she looked into the face of the woman she had once admired as family, now just another by her side.
"This is a waste of time, don't you think, Colonel Katsuragi?" Asuka didn't even wait for an answer, leaving the room with heavy steps, she didn't want to talk to anyone else right now, this had all taken up too much of her energy.
"Idiot."
Shinji felt frustrated by this, he stood up and spoke forcefully as he knocked on the glass.
"ASUKA! What's going on?"
"So..." Ritsuko was about to continue her little lecture, but the sound of the phone ringing next to her caught her attention, and Misato quickly answered it.
"Yes."
"Enemy approaching fast, sensors don't seem to have located it." Hyuga's voice spoke with anxiety.
"Use the cannons to kill him, don't let him get close!" Misato ordered, then she picked up her personal radio and spoke, the sound of Wunder's cannons beginning to flood the environment around her.
"Emergency deployment!"
Shinji again felt he was being ignored and punched the glass again.
"Damn it!" Shouted the man as he got angry, he hit the glass as hard as he could, knowing that he couldn't handle Shinji's anger, with a click of the button, the room became mirrored again, Shinji felt his anger getting higher and higher.
"Why is this shit happening?"
Sakura finally took courage and approached him, she knew that with a battle she had to be at her post, she went to him and tried to take him to his cell.
"Come on, Ikari, it's not safe here!"
"Don't touch me!" Shinji said as he approached the wall. She was startled by this, but she could see that he was frightened.
"We'll have other opportunities to sort this out, now we have to go back!"
"Solve it! You're blaming me and you want me to cooperate! You're crazy!" Shinji speaks with a high level of betrayal in his voice.
"Ikari please!" Sakura tried, but a loud explosion quickly pushed her into the corner. Shinji wanted to help her, but fear paralyzed him, turning his face to the side as he felt the strong wind collide with his face, then his eyes widened as he saw the colors of unit 00 reaching into the hole in the hull of the Wunder inviting him to climb up.
"Unit 00?" Said the confused man, he felt a strong urge to leave.
"Don't move, Shinji!" Misato's authoritative voice reached the man, the strong wind raging through his body, his heavy coat swaying in the wind, Shinji growled as he saw Misato's face, her eyes locked on him like an eagle on its prey.
"I can't let you go!"
Looking down, Shinji observed his hand on the detonator of the choker around his neck, and with anger and betrayal he spoke.
"Why not? I can see I'm not welcome here!"
"Shinji! Don't force me to have to activate the choker! NERV is our enemy!" Misato spoke determinedly, but she could feel the anxiety taking over her body, she didn't want to have to use force to prevent Shinji from being captured, outside the modified 00 unit was receiving Wunder's shots, but his AT field was protecting him.
"I can't stay here!" Spat the man with betrayal.
"You treat me like a prisoner! You know I'd never do anything like that!"
"We have no choice Shinji, you're a danger to the world!" Misato thought of all the possible arguments that could make Shinji give up running away, but she was running out of portfolio, and soon she remembered the times in her apartment.
"You can trust me, I can guarantee your safety!"
Shinji laughed skeptically when he heard this. He spoke calmly, but everyone could sense that he was being sarcastic.
"Trust you? You think I'm going to trust you when I've got a bomb in my head? I thought I could trust you, but it seems I was wrong!" Says the man as he walks up to the big hand, anywhere was better than here he thought.
Misato felt her hand squeeze the detonator, sadness taking over her cold heart as she saw Shinji heading towards the enemy EVA, her finger trembling on the button that would stop all this, but she knew she would never be able to accomplish the deed anyway, she would never be able to kill Shinji or the other pilots.
"Shinji! Back off now!" Misato spoke with determination, a faint "Please" escaped, but no one listened.
Sakura watched everything from afar, she quickly crawled through the wreckage of the Wunder and spoke, there was a rush in her voice.
"Ikari-san, you can go, but please DON'T RIDE AN EVA!"
Shinji looked at the girl who showed some respect for him, but with anger taking over his body he didn't say anything, just walked closer to the center of the hand, but at least those words had stuck in his head, soon the big hand closed and Shinji found himself in darkness, he just wanted to get out of this place.
Misato felt her heart racing at this, she rushed to the edge as she looked out, feeling her eyes widen at losing her prisoner so soon after he had woken up.
"Say X, sweetheart!" Mari said as she pointed her gun at her enemy's head, wasting no time in discharging her weapon, her eyes wide as she saw the pieces of mark 9's head flying through the air, but he didn't even care.
"What?" Said the brunette as she saw the enemy spread its wings and fly away, she spoke with false sadness.
"Come back and play with me!"
Lowering her weapon, she thought dejectedly as she learned that Shinji had been captured by NERV, which would change her plans to take him to the refugee village.
"Damn."
Misato saw her window of opportunity closing quickly, she pointed her detonator at the sky, being able to see where the enemy was, with a push of a button the world would be saved, but something in her heart wouldn't allow her to complete it.
Ritsuko had recovered from the blow she had received, Misato pointing the detonator at the sky, having already realized what had happened, she screamed.
"Misato! It can still be used to make an impact! Set off the detonator!"
Misato listened to her colleague's plea, but she didn't have the courage, she knew that Shinji would be subjected to the same thing at NERV, what would they say to him in such a situation? Would he help his father finish what he had started?
"Misato! Press the detonator!" Ritsuko shouted as she felt the anxiety in the air.
The seconds seemed like an eternity, but soon the device emitted a sound, a small red panel saying out of range. Slowly Misato lowered the detonator as she hesitated, Ritsuko looked at her with pity, knowing that her friend was in no position to give orders now, she picked up her radio.
"The priority is to repair the damage."
Sitting on one of the wrecks, Misato took a deep breath not knowing what to do, but she felt one thing, and that was fear, what was Shinji going to do now?
"Damn."
Asuka looked outside the Wunder, she could see what had happened, focusing her eyes on the trail the enemy had made in the skies, knowing that Shinji had left and returned to NERV, lowering her radio she spoke angrily.
"Still a brat."
(*)
Leaving the huge hand that held him, Shinji slowly walked through the dark place, looking around as he thought about everything that had happened at the moment, still feeling the weight of having been betrayed by everyone he thought he could trust.
"Give me a second please." A man spoke over the EVA's communication system, Shinji looked back as he felt frightened, but he didn't seem to be in any danger, slowly the yellow EVA moved away from his location, he thought about running away, but somehow he felt that it wouldn't help at all.
"Where is everyone?" The man asked when he saw the empty, lifeless corridors, knowing that this place was NERV, or at least what was left of it.
"This is NERV." Says a man as he steps out of a small elevator, Shinji looks at him calmly and suspiciously, this doesn't seem to have bothered him at all, wearing a black suit plug, a man with white hair and red eyes approached with a smile on his face.
"EVA cage 08."
Shinji didn't say anything, just stared at him suspiciously. Kaworu smiled as he came closer, feeling a strong anxiety in his body at finally having met Shinji.
"Well... let's start by introducing myself..." Said the man as he stretched out his hand in a sign of peace, still with his calm smile he spoke.
"I'm Nagisa, Kaworu Nagisa, a great pleasure to finally meet you."
Shinji hesitantly greeted him, thinking about what he would say.
"I am Shinji Ikari."
"I already know that." Kaworu said as he started walking, then he told Shinji to follow him.
"I'll take you to your room, I think you'll want to rest after all this."
Shinji nodded as he thought about it, he really wanted to be able to rest, thinking about everything that had happened was taking its toll, with slow steps he began to follow this man, somehow he felt he could trust this Kaworu.
"If we're in NERV, where is everyone else?"
He wished he could tell Shinji the truth, but now wouldn't be the best time.
"All in good time, I bet you're trying to pluck out that beard."
Shinji touched his face as he thought about it, he wished he could take care of himself a bit, but he'd never thought of shaving before, but he couldn't stay like this forever, Kaworu seemed to realize this and spoke with a soft smile on his face.
"I know your story, don't worry about asking for help and another thing, shaving isn't rocket science."
Shinji gave a small smile when he heard that, it really shouldn't be that difficult, he stopped next to the man who had rescued him, then his smile died on his face as he thought of his father, if Misato was NERV's enemy, then she was his father's enemy, angrily he asked.
"If this is NERV, my father must be somewhere, or even Professor Fuyutsuki."
"The King of the Lilies is in his study thinking about his plans, the sub is reading in the gardens."
"King of the Lilim?" Shinji asked in confusion.
"You'll understand slowly, we'll talk later and everything will work out, now let's go to your room."
Shinji noticed a slight change in the man's mood, then they both began to walk in silence, with Shinji looking at how NERV was in a state of decay.
"It really has been seven years." He concluded sadly.
"Yes, the world seems to have regressed." Kaworu agreed with Shinji, not that he really cared.
Stopping in front of his room, Kaworu typed in a code on the small black panel, with a sound of wind the door opened and they both entered, with a click the lights came on, Shinji looked around to see a simple room, a small bed in the center, a small makeshift bathroom in the corner with a plastic curtain to say it has some privacy, more to the side there was a simple and small table.
"This is your room, everything has been organized to please you." Kaworu said smiling, his good humor seemed to be unshakable.
"Better than sleeping in a prison cell." Shinji said dejectedly as he remembered his awakening in Wunder, knowing that he wasn't loved had hurt his heart. Kaworu realized this, so he spoke calmly.
"We'll sort it out later, now get some rest."
Shinji looked at the man turning and walking away.
"Where are you going?"
"Take a shower, my room is next to yours, anything just knock." Said Kaworu cheerfully, soon the door opened and closed, leaving Shinji alone in his new room, walking slowly to the bed, he could see a set of new clothes waiting for him, with a sigh he went to look at the bathroom.
Picking up a small bag, Shinji looked through its contents, there was a toothbrush and personal hygiene supplies, looking in the mirror he really had to remove that horrible beard he had on his face.
Picking up the blade, the man thought about how he was going to do it, he had seen people do it in movies and series, so it shouldn't be too difficult, soon his eyes fell on a small sheet of paper with writing on it, he let out a bitter laugh as he felt like a child.
Hi Shinji, shaving is not an EVA science, first wash your face to remove dirt, spread the shaving foam over your face and pass the blade slowly downwards, taking care not to use too much force or make horizontal movements so as not to cut yourself, repeat the process until you feel satisfied.
"They've thought of everything." Shinji says as he begins the process.
A few hours had passed since he had arrived, and his face bore the marks of small cuts, but he had succeeded in his goal,
Standing looking in the small mirror, Shinji could take a good look at his new face, he really had aged, having inherited both his father's and his mother's features, he clenched his fist as he didn't want to look like that bastard who had abandoned him, he calmly made a ponytail in his longer hair and turned around.
Lying in bed and staring at the ceiling of his room, he thought of everything he had learned in this lost world, why didn't people believe him? Had Misato known that he would never hurt anyone because she didn't believe him? It hurt his heart.
Then he thought of Asuka, a small smile appeared on his face, she was alive, but now she hated him, as did everyone else, at least he had managed to save Rei, but where was she? Did she hate him too?
"Third impact."
"You caused it."
"It's none of your business."
"Murderer."
Shinji closed his eyes as he remembered all the things he had heard, bringing his hand up to his face to cover the light, he felt afraid that he had really done all those things that everyone said he had done.
"I would never do that... Never."
The man doesn't know how long he stayed
KNOCK ON THE DOOR.
Jumping slightly when he heard this, Shinji stood up and calmly went to the door, but it seemed that the person knew exactly where he was.
"It's me Ikari!" Kaworu's voice calmed him down and he calmly opened the metal door. On the other side stood Kaworu, two trays of food in his hands. Shinji felt his stomach growl at the thought that he hadn't eaten anything yet.
"You must be hungry?" Kaworu smiled.
Shinji nodded as he walked inside, calmly walked over to the table and sat down, Kaworu put the food on the table and sat down in front of him.
Shinji looked at the folders that consisted of food, knowing that the world didn't have much food to provide for people, sadly he spoke.
"I've really put a stop to everything, haven't I?"
Kaworu put down his cutlery and spoke calmly but seriously.
"Unfortunately, it was an accident... but now let's eat, then we'll talk."
Shinji closed his eyes as he thought about it, he tasted the food and felt the bad taste it had, again he began to feel the guilt taking over his body, the breakfast proved to be very quiet, Kaworu looked at Shinji with pity, but he knew he would have to show the man the truth.
"When we've finished, let's go for a walk... it'll be easier to explain."
Shinji nodded at this, he knew he would have to see how the world had turned out, but now it seemed there was no turning back, the people were right, he was a monster, calmly he continued to eat.
(*)
Strong winds flooded the area, but Kaworu didn't seem to mind, as Shinji struggled to balance himself.
"Calm down!"
"It's not so bad, usually the winds are stronger." Kaworu said as he turned and looked at his new friend, going over to Shinji and helping him up, Shinji felt that he really was a good person.
Stopping at a metal pedestal, Shinji felt his body stiffen at the state the structure was in, the sound of pieces of metal hitting the ground flooding the place.
"When the weather improves, we'll be able to see." Kaworu said dejectedly, he didn't want to do this, but for his plan to work, Shinji had to see.
Slowly the wind cleared the air, and Shinji's eyes widened as he saw how the world had become, how Tokyo 3 had become.
"My God." Said the man in horror as he saw the red earth as far as the eye could see, just above still some remnants of the third impact, being able to see part of the circles of colors that had formed, he felt his stomach turning with the scene.
"What happened?"
Kaworu leaned on the fence and spoke sadly.
"Unfortunately in the third impact almost all of humanity and living beings have become LCL, the soil is soaked with the essence of life."
Shinji fell to his knees feeling even worse, Kaworu beside him still focused on the lifeless background, with pain in his heart he continued.
"Some people survived, but most were not so lucky."
"I didn't know that could happen." Shinji said as he felt his body shaking with fear and guilt, Kaworu looked at him and spoke with pity.
"It wasn't your fault, it was an accident."
"HOW NOT!? LOOK AT THIS PLACE!" Shinji shouted in despair, but Kaworu didn't care, really Misato and the others had reason to hate him, he had destroyed the lives of the whole world, putting his hand to his head and gasping heavily.
Kaworu looked into the distance and could see the gaps of infinity in his eternal walk. Taking a deep breath, he lowered himself to the same height as Shinji.
Shinji was still gasping heavily as he felt the heaviest weight in the world on his back.
"That's why everyone hates me, I'm a monster!"
Kaworu let out a long sigh, knowing that any dialogue would now be useless. Looking back, he could see a shadowy figure staring at him, feeling nothing but anger at the sight of the person he thought he could manipulate.

Standing there looking down, Gendo focused his eyes on the two figures standing there, knowing that part of his objective had indeed been accomplished, now he just had to wait a little longer for the unification with Lilith and my return to Yui to be completed.
"Is your son in a desirable state?" The old professor asked as he stopped next to him, his eyes closed and no longer interested in the scene.
"Yes, now he'll be able to understand the process, he won't hesitate to follow Nagisa's orders." Gendo said as he clutched the suitcase in his hand, there was little left now, turning and walking back, Gendo was no longer interested in the view, he had to talk to the committee.
"Should we tell you about Ayanami's origins?" The teacher asked as he watched his delinquent student walk away.
"It doesn't matter now, the Ayanami models have failed." Gendo spoke with a slight regret in his voice, but it was only a slight setback in his scenario.
"I thought you liked her?" Said the old teacher sadly, he missed Rei, especially knowing that he was the one who made her, looking at the stars in the sky, he thought of his best student.
"Yui, can you forgive me for everything I've done?" The old professor thought as he closed his eyes, he wanted to feel something that would show him that Yui would listen to him.
"Yes."
Opening his eyes and looking around, the teacher felt strange, it was as if he heard Yui's voice in his mind, he felt a little afraid of it, he quickly looked down when he saw her calf still in its desperate state, knowing that there was nothing more he could do now, with a long sigh he turned and started to leave, with that mysterious voice in mind.
