Chapter 16: Episode 4x08

The atmosphere felt different. As if an electrical current kept going through her. The whole of Atlantis it was buzzing around her. And all of a sudden, Alexandra was lurking outside the medical bay.

"My dear, come forward."

Davos, the Seer, looked from his daughter to the scientist. Her brown eyes had been watching for only a couple of minutes before his words got her out of her reverie. She knew the buzzing she felt was due to the curiosity that had taken over her upon the arrival of that sweet, yet strange, man. And what had prevented her from just simply entering the area he was staying? Fear was the word roaming around her thoughts.

"I was not peeking." Alexandra said in an instant, feeling like a child as she approached the old man.

"I know." The Seer laughed. "And I know who you are. I know you've dealt with a lot in the past few years. And I also know that the Ancients keep asking more and more from you, without giving anything in return. And when they do give, they break your heart."

With an amazed frown, although confused, Alexandra's heart was thrumming in her chest.

"I didn't come here to talk about the past. Or the future. Seen a lot to ask for it. I'm just..."

"Curious of what my power can do." Davos held up his hand. "I can show you, nonetheless."

The scientist looked between the old man's eyes and his wrinkly hand. She was hesitant. Did she want to experience what he was offering her? Maybe it would show her nothing. Her destiny was her own. She had decided that after what happened with Adria. No one ruled over her. Her choice. However...

Softly, she placed her hand onto the man's and immediately she was overwhelmed by what she saw.

*Cloaked figures. Light. Shadows. Decisions. Hazel eyes.*

Taking a step back from the vision, Alexandra gave a deep breath.

"I'm sorry, my dear." Davos said, saddened.

"What was that supposed to mean?" Alexandra whispered, quite not believing the images. No one had entered her mind since Anubis. Not even Adria, even though she had tried.

"Only you can know, Alexandra."

Silently, she nodded and left the infirmary, thinking, remembering the vision. She knew those eyes. All to well.

John. And he was suffering. There was pain. And cloaked figures. Ancients were surrounding them. Even in just a vision, their power was overwhelming. Suffocating.

"Hey, Alex!" John greeted as she passed by him. But she didn't acknowledge him. He frowned, worried, and went after her.

As the pilot touched her shoulder, Alexandra went into defense mode and grabbed his hand, twisting it. "Ow! Ouch!"

"Oh, god! John! What are you doing?" She released him as soon as she saw heard him. "I'm so sorry. Did I hurt you?"

"No. I'm fine… Just my ego is a little bruised, I guess." He heard her snort. They hadn't seen each other in days and he missed her company. "You look good." He said, looking at her with a smile, massaging his wrist at the same time.

"What?" Alexandra wrinkled her nose in confusion.

"Haven't seen you in days, I mean." John shrugged, berating himself for his thoughts. The image he still had of her after catching her in the shower was imprinted in his brain.

Rolling her eyes, Alexandra turned around to go back to her office. She felt him follow her.

"Been with Major Lorne off world." The scientist saw him nod.

"I know."

"And it's been three days, Sheppard. So, don't be dramatic."

"Hm. So, what made you space out?" As he said those words, he realized she had come out of the infirmary aisle. Davos. Had the man showed her something?

"Nothing. Was thinking about the Wraith."

"I know. That always makes me space out." John said, playfully, and saw her roll her eyes with a small smile. "C'mon, let's go see Rodney. He has some interesting company that you would like to meet."

Curious, Alexandra followed the Colonel and once they got to McKay's lab, she saw for the first time the Wraith named Todd.

However, something happened for as soon as the Wraith saw her, he hissed at her, which made John get between the two and the marines stationed there for security pulled their P90s up.

"Easy, pal." John placed his hand on his holster, just in case. But he wished he didn't have to draw it out.

"What is she?" The Wraith's eyes were on the scientist.

"It's okay." Alexandra took a step forward and placed her hand on John's arm. "He can't harm me." Her voice came out softly, her brown eyes going quickly to hazel ones that relaxed slightly. "He's reacting to my gene. You're more sensitive than the others." She placed herself between human and Wraith. "Hello. I'm Alexandra. I heard a lot about you. The Wraith that helped a human."

The Wraith was surprised at the woman's reaction to him. He nodded, confused.

"What to do you mean he's reacting to your gene?" Rodney came closer to them, curious.

"He can feel I'm different. You can feel that I'm not just a human."

"Yes. It's disconcerting." Todd's voice came out softer than usual, spite as deep.

"I know. It's odd to feel your energy as well." The scientist held her hand towards the Wraith's chest. "May I?"

"Alex." John frowned, not at ease with that proximity. She didn't listen to him as she placed her hand on the other's chest.

"It's dark and painful." She looked up. He was so tall. "I'm sorry my ancestors left you all alone."

All of a sudden, the Wraith gave a step back and, as if on cue, Alexandra got out of her own sudden trance and with a quick smile, she left the lab, confused, cold and with an odd feeling.

Even though Atlantis was safe, the thrill of the day kept John awake. So, he put his sweatpants and sneakers shoes on and went for a run on Atlantian corridors.

He didn't think much. Sometimes stopped, making sure things were running smoothly. At some point, he passed over one of the balconies near the living quarters that had the door open.

Curious, he looked outside and frowned as he saw Alexandra. She was sitting on the floor, leaning against one of the pillars, he watched her for a second. There was something different about her. There was no easiness, no quick retorts. Even during the Wraith ships hovering over the planet, she had been focused and silent. In that moment, John had a feeling he was just starting to really see her.

When they had met, he knew Alexandra was different and even thought they wouldn't become friends. But here they were. And close friends at that. However, there was still something, a block of some kind that she had put around her to prevent anyone to go further in. But why did he, the one that kept a barrier between his own feelings and more intimate talks with others, wanted for her to open up to him?

"Can't sleep?" John saw her open her eyes and look at him. The light of the two moons shone in them and he had to catch his breath.

"Too hyped up, I guess." Alexandra shrugged, then raised her brow. "Wait, this is not your balcony, is it? To brood?"

"To brood?" John smirked, stepping closer to her. "No. Well, it is, but I can lend it to you. For now." He sat next to her on the floor.

Alexandra only smiled, giving him a bump on his shoulder.

"What was that with our friendly Wraith? He still looked shook when he left." The pilot mentioned after a few moments.

For a moment, she was silent, thinking.

"Higher races react to my gene as if they're in sync to the energy. It happened with the Asgards and the Ori Priors back in the Milky Way. Some Goa'uld felt it too."

"And you could feel his energy."

"Yep."

"Creepy."

"A little. They're in pain. Always. And the hunger is always there." She ended up saying.

John nodded, thinking about all the Wraiths he had dealt with the past three years.

"Okay. What about Davos? What did he show you?"

Alexandra frowned. The vision came to her mind.

"Nothing. Just nothing." And she wished that was true. Now, more than ever, she knew she had to stay away from John.

The pilot was looking at her. He could believe that given what she was, what he knew about Ancients.

"That's creepy too."

Alexandra snorted as she pulled her jumper tightly against her body. Tiredness was slowly taking over and without thinking too much of it, she leaned her head against John's shoulder. She would stay away from him tomorrow.

With a quirk on his lips, John felt her relax against him. Her warmth seeped into him, relaxing him at last.
