Chapter 22: Episode 4x13

"Hey, doc!" John smiled when Alexandra entered McKay's lab.

"Colonel." Alexandra gave him a brief glance that lasted longer than the previous others." Rodney, can you ran your magic on this device, please? I need to add it to my report for Daniel."

"Sure. Just give me a couple of hours." McKay said, taking it, immediately placing it near his computer.

"Thank you." She gave him a smile. "Teyla. Colonel." And then she was gone.

"Those were two glances this time." Teyla mentioned with a smile, placing a hand on her friend's shoulder as John placed his head on the table with a bang, frustrated.

"She's still not talking to you?" Rodney asked without looking at them. "That must be exasperating for your charm."

"Shut up, McKay." John groaned. "She does talk to me. On official matters. But it's been three weeks since the last time we spoke and she asked for time. How long is this "time" suppose to last?"

"I've been seeing her a lot with Major Lorne."

"Rodney!" Teyla admonished.

"They belong in the same team, Rodney." John rolled his eyes.

"They do? Anyway…" Rodney looked between his two friends. "Listen, I have to go meet Katie. See you later."

Teyla and John looked towards the door as he disappeared in a heartbeat.

"He's serious, isn't he? With Katie?" John asked.

"Apparently so." Teyla looked closely at John. "And you should try and talk with Alex again. It has been a while and perhaps her request has already expired."

The pilot sighed, almost pouting as he thought on his friend advice.

"After she comes back. She's scheduled for a mission today."

With another pat on his shoulder, Teyla gave him an encouraging smile as she went back to work on the computer.

The wormhole disengaged.

"What happened, Col. Carter? We've been trying to dial here for the last five hours." Major Stevens said looking at his commanding officer that was coming down the stairs.

"A malfunction on the city quarantine systems regarding this planet." Samantha explained. "How was the planet?"

"Sunny, Sam. Imagine beaches and clear blue water." Alexandra had a smile on her face, still amazed by the sunny planet the team had just been in.

"Waves any good? Because that would sound greater than it already is." John said as he approached the small group that had gathered near the gate.

Alexandra smile faltered a little at the sound of his voice, not expecting him, but nowhere near as it did in the weeks before.

"Here. Let me help you, doc." Lorne said as he had followed John after a briefing. He took the briefcase she had brought with artifacts to study.

"Thank you, Major." Alexandra smiled at him that merely nodded at her. "Please take that to my office. I'll be right there."

"Yes, ma'am." Lorne left, always happy to help.

"Get checked out. Shower. Briefing in one hour." Samantha ordered to Major Stevens team as she walked towards her office.

"Yes, ma'am." Stevens said as he followed Lorne out, talking about the planet with his friend.

For a moment, John only stood there, having watched the small exchange, and was about to talk when Alexandra looked up at him.

"Waves were decent." Her lips turned into a thin line and she frowned a little, starting to walk away from him.

Confused, but pleased, John turned in her direction, watching her go into Samantha's office without another look in his direction.

"That was nice of you." The Atlantis leader smiled at her friend, happy Alexandra was starting to put what happened behind her back. But also knowing how hard those words had been to say by the soft pink in her cheeks.

"Shut it, Sam." Which earned the scientist a chuckle from her oldest friend. In the end, Alexandra rolled her eyes as she sat down in one of the chairs. However, she had to be honest and say John had, somewhat, respected her request and she was tired of dodging him all over Atlantis.

So, why not be a little more friendly? After all, she was in a good mood after spending the day at the beach.
