Chapter 40: Chapter 5x07
There was something about feeling in control.
The sound of the waves, the electricity prickling at the tip of her fingers, the wind going around her as she controlled the energy that surrounded her as the power grew and she released it into the water.
It was a slow morning for Alexandra, a day off that she was going to use to put her abilities to the test.
For a few days now, she could feel her power going back to normal, her shield building into place around her body.
She believed that her gym sessions, either with Teyla or Ronon, and working tirelessly with Rodney had been helping. Not to mention the fact that, even if she and John stayed in their opposite ends of a dinner table, not reverting to avoiding him, or their friends that stayed in between them, had something to do with her abilities stabilizing.
Taking a deep breath, Alexandra thought about their argument.
It had been two weeks.
Of course, their friends had tried to know what had happened between them, even though none had pryed too much. However, the scientist ended up telling the Athosian after a pretty heavy training session. Of course Teyla didn't chose any side, understanding both John and Alexandra, merely offering her help if needed be.
Doing a circle on the spot, Alexandra opened her arms and expanded her energy field around the pier and a tingling sensation went through her body as she looked up to the sky with a smile.
Yes, everything was going back to normal. And she felt in a good mood.
Little did she knew she was being watched.
Hazel eyes were far away, at the control room balcony watching her move around the pier, with precise movements, sometimes catching a glimpse of a glow surrouding her.
After two weeks, barely speaking to her, even if she sat across from him at dinner time, John had put things in perspective. In a way, he understood her side regarding Kal. Of course, she would do anything in her power to get back the control the Ancient had taken from her. Samantha Carter had said as much at some point after Alexandra had revealed her powers in Atlantis.
"She's getting her offworld clearance today." A scottish accent sounded behind him as Carson walked up next to him, noticing the object of the Colonel's attention.
"Good. She needs to leave the base. It will do her some good not being cooped up all the time."
"Thought you would like to keep an eye on her after everything that happened."
"Mm... I'm the last person that she wants to keep her under some kind of control, doc." John gave one last look to the woman that was as stubborn as he was. "C'mon. We have to go meet Major Teldy and her team." The pilot walked away from the balcony, being followed by Carson that sighed.
It was early morning and the night had been spent in the control room, studying some of the city structure, since the mainframe was stationed there.
There was an unscheduled offworld ativation and Sheppard, Carson and part of Major Teldy's team appeared from the blue pool seconds later.
Brown eyes found him and immediately she could see he had been in some sort of a fight, her abilities telling her he was okay, even if tired, with a couple of bruises.
"Hello, lass." Carson greeted her with a smile as he went to Woolsey's office.
"Everything okay, Carson? You look like you've been to war." Her eyes inspectioned him and saw he had a few bruises as well, but nothing that would be too concerning.
"More like an horror film. I'll tell you all later." The medical doctor offered her a wink as he walked away.
Suddenly, John's voice ringed in her ears and her body went still, her attention going back to the file opened in her computer screen.
He was talking to the woman she recognized as being Major Teldy about a Dr. Porter that had been taken to the infirmary, alongside Sgt Mehra.
"Hey, doc!" Now his voice sounded right behind her. Of course, John had spotted her the minute he walked up to the control room to give a quick briefing to Woolsey.
"Colonel." Her good mood from the morning before hadn't left her yet, so she looked up at him as he went around her current working station.
Her eyes followed the path of his body, up to his face. His pose was observant, his hands placed on top of his P90. Up close now, she noticed he looked bedraggled, tired, and not to mention the bruises forming under his clothes.
"I heard you were cleared for offworld duty." John mentioned.
"I was."
"The planet we were just in had some cool ruins, alongside Michael's lab. I can put in the request for you to go there and study them." He was trying to be as amiccable as she seemed at ease.
"Thank you. I would like that." Her eyes went to his jaw. "That looks like it hurts."
"Nothing I'm not used to." As he said it, there was a small frown that formed between her brows but it quickly disappeared.
Woolsey came out of his office and called on him.
For a second, it seemed that he was going to say something more, but John ended up nodding.
It was good... talking again. Even if there was that feeling of constraint after their last conversation... argument? Fight? He wasn't really sure.
Of course, he understood why she hadn't talked to him everytime they encountered each other in the hallways, merely when needed to. After all, he had been a little rough and was still upset with the way she was handling things. Not to mention that he had to deal with the fact that Alexandra O'Neill was too headstrong and that she wouldn't budge on her personal mission on trying to find Kal and his secret labs.
However, he had to give it to her since, this time, she didn't try to avoid him. And, of this moment, it seemed they were going back to speaking terms.
"I'll see you later, doc." John stepped back from her. "Have a good day."
"You too, Colonel."
The pilot gave her a slight smirk and went into Woolsey's offce.
As he entered, his eyes caught Alexandra's ones following him inside.
Ps: Thoughts?
