Chapter 208: Pride of the Immortal Man

Time passes...

"Why did he call another executive meeting?" Shima Itaru, the managing director of "Tsukuba Corporation, complained. "You're the VP, Nogi-san. Have you heard anything?"

"Nothing." Nogi Gakuto replied. "It's probably another new business venture."

"Guys, thanks for waiting." Tsukuba Shunichi entered the meeting room. "I was attacked again last night. This is the second incident. It's probably someone jealous of me, Tsukuba Shunichi, and my shrewd business skills."

"The president said it was not necessary to report to the police." Hirose Aoi, Tsukuba's secretary, informed.

"I'm invincible and immortal." Tsukuba bragged. "The next time I'm attacked, I'll take down my attacker. Anyway, I've called this meeting to discuss none other than a new business venture. I'm going to buy a theme park."

The next morning...

Mouri and Conan were walking past when they spotted the dead Tsukuba in an alleyway.

After Megure's team was called in...

"According to the license he had on him, the decreased is Beika City resident, Tsukuba Shunichi-san, 40 years old." Takagi reported. "He's the president of Tsukuba Corporation."

"The estimated time of death is between 8pm to 10pm last night." Ami added. "We believe he died after falling from the roof of this building."

"Inspector Megure." Chiba came in. "I examined the roof, and it's hard to imagine he accidentally fell."

"Then, it's suicide or murder." Megure concluded.

"We also found this in the body's pocket." Takagi related and handed the threatening letter over to his superior as Ami proceeded to transport the body to the autopsy theater.

"It could be considered a manifesto." Conan pointed out.

"That's what I thought, so I had the Tsukuba Corporation executives come here." Takagi agreed with Conan's assessment.

"The president was attacked twice." Shima confirmed.

"Last night, I received a call from Shunichi." Machigawa Sadako, Tsukuba's aunt, admitted. "He was muttering like he was concerned about something. He wasn't acting like himself. He said he was tired of acting strong."

"What's Tsukuba-san's call history?" Megure asked.

"The last call he made was to Machigawa Sadako-san last night at 9:40pm." Takagi answered.

"I received a call yesterday evening." Hirose piped in. "It was from someone who'd received the president's help. They saw him leaving a psychiatric clinic looking very concerned. They called me because they were worried."

Later that day...

After confirming that Tsukuba's confident image was just a mask, Conan pieced together what had happened and using Mouri's voice, gathered Megure's team and the three suspects back on the office rooftop.

After tranquilizing Mouri, he started his deduction. "I was confused. There is no X and Tsukuba-san wasn't plotting to kill anyone. Tsukuba-san was planning his own suicide. He lied about the two attempts on his life and created a manifesto to make his suicide look like murder. Tsukuba-san must've been exhausted from conducting business aggressively for five years. But as someone very concerned with what others thought of him, Tsukuba-san couldn't change course. It would seem uncool, after all. So, he decided to go out on a high point and end things with his death. However, believing that taking one's life would be uncool, he tried to make it look like a murder. Realizing that would be difficult, he thought to have someone actually murder him instead. He would have them kill him in self-defense. But that wouldn't work either; that would in turn make the fault his and that would be uncool. Therefore, he returned to his original idea of making his suicide look like murder. However, it wasn't a suicide; someone who didn't want people to know he killed himself wouldn't make a phone call that would make his death look like a suicide. Last night, it was Tsukuba-san's killer who called Machigawa Sadako-san. And that person was you, Nogi Gakuto-san. You said something earlier; something about Tsukuba-san admitting on the phone that he was a phony and loser. But Sadako-san didn't mention that this morning. Somehow you knew about that: only the person who made that call pretending to be Tsukuba-san could've known. If the police were to narrow their investigation to one suspect, they will find the evidence eventually. You despised Tsukuba-san and wanted to kill him. When you heard he'd been attacked again, you knew you had to hurry. He had to make people believe it was suicide so Tsukuba-san would be labeled a loser."

"That's right." Nogi admitted. "I'd make him look like a loser who took his own life to escape from reality despite all his claims of being unstoppable. That would open the eyes of his young fans."

Two days later...

"Every man I steal from the girls just lose their attractiveness once they become mine." Usagi moaned. "What is this..." she spotted Minako's newest Tumblr post about her pending marriage to Yamada. "Mina-chan's getting married? I can't believe this. I know! I'll just steal again."

At the Juuban Municipal High School reunion a week later...

"I'm the perfect woman today." Usagi grinned, arriving fashionably late at the reunion's venue. "I went to the beauty salon just for today. All of this just so that I can accomplish my goal. Let's see... where is my target? Yamada-kun?" she sang, spotting her target.

"Usagi-chan." Yamada Juro was shocked to see his high school crush jump him. "I can't believe you came up to me. It's been a while. You're beautiful as always."

"You make me so happy." Usagi gushed. "Yamada-kun, if it's alright with you, why don't we..." she giggled suggestively. "Ditch this place? I think I've fallen in love with you. Don't tell Minako-chan, okay? I can't stop laughing." she grinned, having disappeared with Yamada to a love hotel. "My mission to steal Mina-chan's fiancé is a success. I should tell Mina-chan her fiancé's never coming back. I wonder how she's going to react to this. I can't wait to hear her cry. It's Usagi, Mina-chan." she made her call. "How's it going? I stole your fiancé."

"What do you mean by that?" Minako was confused.

"I know you don't want to admit it but you have to face reality." Usagi continued to brag.

"There's got to be a mistake." Minako sighed.

"Usagi-chan, who are you talking to?" Yamada exited the shower.

"Yamada, I was telling Mina-chan about us." Usagi replied.

"That's right." Yamada recalled. "Minako is your best friend who looks like you, right? You must really get along well with her to tell her about us."

"What the..." Usagi was stunned. "You know Mina-chan, don't you?"

"I don't know her." Yamada replied.

"There's no way." Usagi pushed herself away from Yamada. "You're Yamada, Mina-chan's fiancé, right?"

"I'm not Minako's fiancé." Yamada admitted. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't her fiancé Yamada Masahiko? He didn't seem to be at the reunion, though."

"This can't be happening..." Usagi whined. "What the hell?"' she turned back to her phone, snapping at Minako. "I was planning on stealing your man."

"Too bad." Minako shrugged. "I didn't know there is another Yamada-kun. You thought he must be my fiancé, didn't you? I'm going to hang up."

"Wait a minute." Usagi protested. "This can't be happening!" she wailed, hearing the dial tone on Minako's end.
