Underground, hidden to the people above, a group of men survey a wall of monitors. Each attuned to scenes of ordinary life and work. But these men who are watching don't appear to be human. They look like humanoid insects with their green, hardened skin, antennae, and large bulbous heads. Of course, anyone above might have thought these men to be regular people with strange Quirks. But the truth is much more insidious…
"How has our information-gathering plan coming along?" One of these strange men spoke in a unknown tongue (which we have translated for you to follow along, ain't that nice!).
"We have begun to plant our devices into these human electronics." Another one answered.
"And the distribution?"
"Slow but going steady. One of our agents has stationed herself in a populus city. She draws in more customers due to word spreading of her mechanical skills and low cost."
The first man, presumably the leader, smiled deviously. "Excellent. Soon as more of our agents begin to spread our devices across this world, we will know everything about these miserable humans! Their strengths, their weaknesses, and their so-called Heroes. All will fall under our might. It may take many Earth years, but that is a timetable we can wait on! Then this planet will be the birthplace of a new Glyxian empire!"
The leader laughed at his predicted triumph. The sound only resonated within the walls of the underground base. A secret invasion has begun under the nose of some of the most powerful people on planet Earth! What, or who, will be able to stop them before it's too late?!
Toxin, aka the universally displaced boy Bren Waters, was having trouble with his homework.
Specifically, history homework. See, being from an alternate Earth was already challenging as not everything in history lined up one to one. For example, nowhere in the textbooks did they mention Captain America, the Invaders, or Hydra during WWII. Although it could be due the focus on Japan's perspective during the war. Come to think of it, Bren couldn't recall a time where it was mentioned Captain America participated in the Pacific Theater. Guess he never did. Though it was not helped that several swaths of human history were lost to time due to the rising of Quirks.
No, the main problem was that Bren had to catch up on centuries of Hero history that was just radically different from what he knew. This first debut of superpowers in the then-current modern day wasn't the debut of the Fantastic Four; it was some baby in China that glowed. It wasn't that the information was complex or anything. It was just so much info at once it felt overwhelming.
"Okay, I get that Rhode Island was the first place to implement the Pro Hero system, but did the U.S. make it nationwide, what was it, 20 or 40 years later?" Bren asked Ryo, who was graciously tutoring the boy.
"It's only 19 years after Rhode Island," Ryo explained. "Plus they had their own civil war to worry about beforehand with the United States, the CIS, and the Free Plains Coalition."
"Oh right, the second time America had a civil war."
"Wait, was there one before?"
Bren blinked at her blankly. Guess the first US Civil War was one of the things lost to time. Or maybe it just wasn't taught here.
"Okay, moving on," Bren continued. "What about the, um, Meta Brotherhood…?"
"The Meta Liberation Army," Ryo answered.
"Yeah, them, and the guy in charge, Destro. When did they come into place?"
"Not long after. I mean, exact dates have been always sort of fuzzy, but you can get away with just saying they protested Quirk restriction laws around the same time."
Bren mindlessly flipped through the sheets of paper that constituted his notes. They were cramped, filled with messy handwriting, and were more than one page, which to Bren was too much.
He sighed, "Man, this is going to take forever to learn."
"Not for me," Toxin the symbiote said. "I've already memorized them from the lesson earlier."
"And are you going to help me remember all that?"
"Ha! No. I'm not the one who has to go to school every day."
"Ugh, whatever."
The sound of a door opening caught Bren and Ryo's attention. Out walked Jin, one of the first people Bren met in Sanctuary House. The man gave a light smile as he saw the two teens.
"Hey, Waters," Jin said. "You got a minute?"
"Yeah," Bren answered, leaving his notes behind.
Ryo followed as well, annoyed that Bren ditched tutoring so quickly.
"So, what's up?" Bren asked.
"I got a little tape recorder I need to pick up from a repair shop. I've been getting my old journalism stuff repaired ever since I got a new job."
"Oh, congratulations. Does that mean you've found an apartment too?" Ryo questioned.
"Soon, but not yet. See, I'm a bit busy right now, so can you two do me a favor and pick up my recorder for me?"
"Sure, why not?" Bren answered.
"Yeah, we weren't doing anything at all, were we?" Ryo whispered with sarcasm.
"Great, here's the address." Jin scribbled on a note and handed it to Bren. "It's a small shop that's a short train ride away. Tell the lady behind the counter that you're there for Jin's. She'll know."
Bren looked at the note briefly before putting it in his pocket. "Thanks, I'll -"
"We'll get it for you," Ryo interrupted, glaring a side eye at Bren.
"Thanks kids," Jin gave a small thumbs up. "You go get the recorder, and we'll meet back here in about 30 minutes or so? Anyway, I gotta go. See ya!"
As Jin left, Bren looked at Ryo in confusion. The girl called out to him to leave with her and so he followed.
Later, on the train, Bren asked Ryo in a volume quiet enough to not attract any other passengers.
"What was that all about back there? Me and Tox could have gotten the recorder back to Sanctuary House by now."
"I know," Ryo answered. "I just got tired of watching you struggle with Quirk history and decided to tag along."
"We could have been there by now if we web-swinged over there."
"And I am not risking myself being seen swinging with a notorious vigilante."
"People don't look up that much."
"Trust me, when it comes to heroes, people tend to notice, even if you don't want them to."
After that quick train ride, Bren and Ryo followed directions to the shop. Jin was right in that it was very small. It reminded Bren of those local-owned businesses he'd seen in New York. Going through the door, Bren and Ryo were surrounded by shelves of hardware tools, appliances, and other small mechanical things. Walking towards the counter, the two seemingly found no one manning it.
"Um, hello?" Bren called out. "Is anyone here?"
"Yes, yes, who is it?" An elderly voice called out from underneath the counter.
Suddenly, an old woman popped up from beneath the counter. She was shorter in stature than the two teens and was advanced in years. She wore a repairman's uniform with a pair of welding googles hanging off her neck. Her eyes were large and clear, despite the fact that she appeared to be constantly squinting. Her hair was very curly and white, though there was enough color to tell that it used to be pink.
"So, what's two young'uns like you doing here? Looking for tools? Antiques? Hmm?" The old shopkeeper interrogated the two. "You can find next to anything in Shugi Hatsume's Craft and Repairs."
"Actually, we're here to pick a tape recorder for a man name Jin," Bren said.
The old woman took a moment to think and then nodded. "Yes, yes, that order. I haven't seen a tape recorder like that in years. I'll be right back."
She then left towards the back of the shop. Bren and Ryo waited for a bit before the owner came back with the recorder.
"Here it is. You can tell Jin that it's as good as new." Shugi Hatsume said. "Now, about the cost."
"Oh, we thought Jin already paid for the repairs." Bren said.
"Ah, don't worry about it. The cost is not much, only 300 yen."
"Wow, that's pretty cheap for an antique repair job." Ryo commented.
"Yes, well, you know what they say. Good bargains are more enticing to the customers. Have a good day now."
The trip back to Sanctuary House went without any noticeable incidents. Once they got back, the two went and found Jin.
"Hey, you two are back," Jin greeted them. "And you got the recorder. Thanks. Hope the price wasn't too much out of pocket."
"Not really," Ryo answered. "She charged us so little for the recorder. I don't know how she stays in business with those prices."
"Yeah, it's why I went to her shop. High skill and very low prices are like honey to me. Anyway, I can't say on the why and how Hatsume runs her shop. All I know is that she seems to be doing just fine as is. Look, I gotta collect some stuff real quick. I'll be right back."
Jin placed the recorder on the table before leaving. Now it was just Bren and Ryo alone in the room.
"Okay, I gotta say something," Toxin said. "There is something in that recorder that's been bugging me ever since we got it."
"What do you mean?" Bren asked.
"I don't exactly know. All I can say is that I'm getting some kind of…signal from it."
"What's going on? Is it a Toxin thing?" Ryo asked, lowering her voice.
"Toxin thinks there's something off about the recorder," Bren answered. "Can you cover me while me and Tox take a look at it?"
Ryo agreed and kept on the lookout for any uninvited guests walking in. Bren picked up the recorder and had its back facing him. Small strands of the symbiote slivered out of Bren's hand. They shifted to fit into the screws on the back. Unscrewing and taking out the back, Bren let Toxin's tendrils find the offending signal. Bren grimaced as wires were getting pulled from their sockets as Toxin continued his search. Eventually, the small *pop* was heard, and the tendrils slide back with their prize in tow.
In their hands was a small chip. However, it was unlike anything they'd seen before. It didn't fit with the rest of the recorder's retro technology. It was too sleek, too new, too…alien to be inside of an old tape recorder.
"Whoa," Ryo gasped. "Do you know what that is?"
"I don't know," Bren answered. "Though I can tell it doesn't belong with this old thing. Does this look like it can be part of something else, something newer?"
"I don't know. I'm not that big into tech. Hmm, let me take a pic and sent it to Fukuzawa. He knows a thing or two about high-tech stuff like this."
While Ryo did that, Bren and Toxin conversed mentally while observing the peculiar chip.
So, this is what was causing that signal?
Yes, this is it. Though, who would put something like that into an old tape brick like this?
I don't know, but I'm guessing we're going to have to find out.
Yeeeessss. Some action!
"I just got a message from Fukuzawa. He's saying he thinks it might be some sort of receiver or something. Though he doesn't know who made it or what specific model it is. Wait," Ryo paused. "Now he's send a lot of messages. A lot of messages that I can't keep up with."
"Tell him we said thanks for his help," Bren said. "Toxin, do you think you can track the signal back to the source?"
"Yeah, I can," Toxin answered. "The more important question is will it get stuck in my head if I keep concentrating on tracking it? Because it's gonna be annoying to keep hearing it in my headspace."
"That's great, we can get there and scope out the place in no time."
"I think you'd better wait before you go and do your whole 'vigilante' thing," Ryo interjected. "Especially after you put Jin's tape recorder back together."
Ryo jabbed a thumb at the still partial-disassembled recorder.
Bren grunted. "Shit, you're right."
After putting the recorder back together and waiting further into the afternoon, Toxin swung off to the repair shop. Making headway, he eventually arrived across the street from it. Choosing to enter quietly, Toxin landed on the roof of the repair shop. Looking for a way in, Toxin came across an access point for a vent. After removing the cover, Toxin crawled his way down the chute. It was tight, which wasn't out of the ordinary for a small building like this. It would have been too tight for a normal person, but Bren's small and slim stature along with Toxin's own manipulation of the suit allowed them to crawl easily. After finding an opening inside the store, Toxin removed that covering and descended from the vent via a web-line. Hovering above the ground, Toxin observed the dark and empty store.
"Looks like the store's closed," Toxin took note before noticing a light coming from the back of the store. "But someone's still here. Let's see who's working the graveyard shift."
Toxin swung over towards the back, landing on a wall. However, there was no one around, leaving an empty office.
"Okay, this is not adding up," Toxin said as he landed on the ground. "Where is Hatsume? Is she still in the building?"
"Bren, I'm still picking up the signal from that chip in the radio," The symbiote said.
"Where is it?"
"Down there."
Bren felt the symbiote pulling his attention to a door in the back.
"Are you sure, Toxin?" Bren asked as he approached the door. "From the looks of things, the door looks like it leads to the…"
As Bren pushed the door open, he saw stairs descend further underground and a faint light emanating from the bottom.
"…Outside," Bren finished his thought.
"Long way down for such a little store, don't 'cha think?" Toxin said. "Wanna see what's inside?"
"Do we have a choice?"
The symbiotic vigilante took each step down, making sure to not make as much noise as possible. At the end of the long stair well was an opening. The light came from there, and so, Toxin peaked his head around the corner to look inside.
It was astounding. A mix of advanced technology embedding to solid rock to create this underground base of operations. What was the strangest aspect were the people working in this environment. There were half-human, half-insect humanoids. They remind Bren of the aliens from the old Star Trek shows. Yet, amongst all these alien looking people, there was Shugi Hatsume standing right alongside what appeared to be their leader.
"How goes the tinkering plan, agent?" The leader alien spoke in human language, though there was a roughness to the voice.
"It is going slowly but very well, my leader," Hatsume answered. "We are implanting our receiver chips into various devices being sent my way. We have already bugged several humans in middle-to-upper middle job positions. Eventually, my and all our other fronts will be drawing in those from the higher levels of society. Once we have successfully bugged them, we will be able to learn everything about this planet's defenses."
"Very good, my loyal agent."
"But, sir, what about the costumed warriors these humans call 'Pro Heroes'?" One grunt asked the leader. "These have very strong and skilled meta-mutations. We surely cannot defeat them all at once."
"Of course, that is why we will learn their secrets, their weaknesses. Our technology is vastly superior to these repugnant humans. After we modify our technology to counter act these Heroes, there will be nothing to stop us from building a new empire for Glyxia!"
Toxin's eyes widened while he continued to eavesdrop.
"No way, this is way bigger than we could have thought. This is a full-blown alien invasion, right under our noses!" Bren whispered to himself.
"Wow, aliens. It's the little things you miss. It's comforting knowing I'm not the only freak from outer space here." Toxin commented.
"But what about Hatsume? She looks human, but she's working with those bug guys. Is she even human?"
"Who knows? Who cares? She's helping the bad guys. Bad guys we're going to stop."
While the two talked, they didn't notice the grunt entering from behind him. Needless to say, Toxin was startled when he heard yelling behind him only to find a Glyxian grunt yelling and pointing at him. Simply put, that brought a whole lot of armed guards surrounding him. Toxin could tell that grunt probably called him an intruder and the guards pointing little sci-fi ray guns at him were not there to escort him out.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Was this a meeting for rejected Super Sentai villains? I thought I looked out of place." Toxin quipped.
"A costume Earth hero?! Here? How?" One grunt asked.
"Never mind that! Capture him!" The commander ordered.
As the sound of laser fire filled the room, Toxin rolled, jumped, and flipped with the agility of a hyperactive spider. He would land a hit on one goon before having to jump around to the next one slipping through streams of laser. Due to the sensitive equipment, some of the guards decided to tackle him. Toxin was able to throw one or two of them off, but they started to pile on, getting too much for him to handle. Frustrated, the symbiote took brief control and exploded in a burst of tendrils. As the grunts were blown away and the tendrils receded, the whole atmosphere of the room changed. Toxin was confused by this until one of the aliens said one particular, clearly articulated word.
"Klyntar!"
With this declaration, chaos ensued. The grunts were no longer caring about damaging sensitive equipment. They were now focused on taking Toxin down. The barrage of laser fire intensified as Toxin had to hit and run many opponents. However, during all this, Shugi Hatsume slunk into darkness. Not long after, she returned with a peculiar looking weapon. Aiming it at the vigilante and waiting for a moment when he stood still, the Tinkerer kept her sights on Toxin. Once the time was right, she fired. The beam hit Toxin, a sonic attack that burrowed and disrupted the symbiote's structure. Toxin's screams of pain were a mixture of human and symbiote as the Tinker continued her attack. However, Toxin was still standing.
"It's working! Increase the vibrations!" The leader ordered.
Hatsume did as she was ordered. The pain from the sonic weapon eventually became too much for the vigilante, and Toxin fell unconscious.
Groaning, Toxin woke up to the feeling of the symbiote pulling itself back together. Fighting the lingering pain to open his eyes, Toxin saw that he was now contained in a glass chamber. It was small enough to prevent him from standing up, and Toxin could see the aliens staring back at him with a myriad of expressions. Caution, worry, stoicism, and on the leader's face, arrogance and confidence.
"Welcome back, Klyntar, to the last place you'll ever see." the leader jeered.
"Let me out, and I'll make it the last place you'll ever be," Toxin growled.
Some of the grunts stepped back in fear, but the commander stood firm.
"Oh, I'm afraid I won't take that chance. The glass that surrounds you is durable enough to handle your considerable strength. Plus, the enclosure you're in is welded shut. You won't live long enough to ever make it out."
"Okay, fine, you got us. Aren't you gonna gloat about your master plan, or am I going to have to look at that ugly face all day?" Bren said.
The leader raised an eyebrow, or something close to it. "Letting your host speak, Klyntar? Or are you just mimicking it in a desperate attempt to gain sympathy?"
"You know about symbiotes. How? I thought people here didn't believe aliens existed."
"Yes, these humans are ignorant to the larger cosmos. They are too busy playing with their meta-mutant powers in their costumed roles to look beyond their dirtball of a planet. Your kind is well known amongst the stars, Klyntar. We know exactly how to take care of you."
"Alright, why Earth? Why here of all places?"
"Earth is backwater territory. Far away from galactic activity. Although there was great risk here setting up a base amongst such a heavy meta-mutant population, we remain confident in our ability to dismantle this planet's defenses bit by bit until we can fully take control."
"And what about you, Hatsume?" Toxin turned their attention to the only outwardly human in the room. "What do you get by selling out the human race?"
The old lady smiled. "What makes you think I would want to align with these humans? The Glyxians have promised me far greater rewards for my potential than any of these humans have."
"My leader, I have doubts," Another nervous looking officer approached. "This Klyntar is styled like the costumed Earth heroes. It might already be a part of their organization. What if they bring the Earth heroes to us?"
"This Klyntar is just one hero out of many," the leader said. "One disappearance will barely be a blip in the human's eyes."
"We're not with those other heroes! We work on our own! And we don't need them to take your operation apart." Toxin answered defiantly.
"Ha! Then your deaths will be even more insignificant!"
Great job, Tox. You just told him we have no back up. Bren thought. What were you trying to do? Scare him into freeing us?
You ever heard of intimidation? Toxin rebutted. Besides, the rest of the guards will probably piss themselves when we break out.
If we get out.
"Now, activate the chamber!" The leader shouted.
Hatsume pressed a sequence of buttons on a nearby console. Toxin realized that the small enclosure was getting hotter.
"We know of the Klyntar's weaknesses, particularly to sound and heat. Fortunately for us, humans also can be vulnerable to heat if raised high enough. Enjoy your last minutes of existence, Klyntar! It won't be pleasant."
Even now, the symbiote can feel the discomforting effects of the heat.
"You know what I didn't miss back on our home? Anti-symbiote weaponry," Toxin stated. "I was beginning to enjoy jumping into fights without worrying if someone had a sonic grenade or they were carrying a high-vibration heat rifle. This is beginning to remind me of how much I hate it."
"We can complain about how much heat sucks later. We have to get out of here now!" Bren said. "Can we try breaking or pushing through the glass?"
Tendrils then emerged from the suit, striking and pushing back against the glass. But the glass did not break or move. They tried pushing up, forcing the top off. But it did not move. Now, Bren was starting to feel the effects of the heat. He had to find a way out, one way or another. That's when Toxin noticed small holes at the bottom of the glass. Small enough to only let a pen through. Through gritted determination, Toxin sent tendrils small enough to go through. The tendrils snaked through the air and arrived at a console on the other side. They began to hit random buttons before one let the bottom of the containment dome open up. Toxin took a quick breath of relatively cool air before springing into action.
The leader took notice immediately. "The Klyntar is free! Eliminate it!"
Toxin zeroed in on the leader, tackling him and pinning him to a wall right next to a large computer. A grunt aimed his laser at the hero.
"Wait, don't shoot!" Hatsume tried to warn. "You'll hit the computer's sensitive innards!"
However, her warnings were unheard as the guard fired. Toxin's symbiote sense let him dodge the laser. It hit the computer instead. The energies of the laser caused the computer to explode. Toxin and the leader were caught in it. Toxin sustained minor injuries that were quickly healed by the symbiote. The leader, however, was now suffering from burns.
The explosion from the computer caused a chain reaction. More and more monitors burst into flames. The underground base was being consumed by smoke and fire. The aliens quickly ran for it. Some came to drag their injured leader away. Through the smoke, Toxin could see one distinct silhouette still present.
"Wait for me!" Hatsume coughed as she cried for help. "Don't leave me behind!"
Toxin quickly made his way over to grab the old woman.
"Let go! I will not be taken in!" Hatsume struggled against the vigilante.
"Hold still! We're trying to get you to safety!" Toxin argued.
Eventually, the battle ended as the smoke began to be too suffocating to continue being in. Toxin quickly made a mad dash back up the stairs and out of the building. Toxin coughed as he escaped the deteriorating underground lab. The piercing wail of sirens alerted Toxin to the fact the fire department was arriving. Toxin shot out a tendril and web-swinged away from the scene with onlookers pointing and recording him.
Elsewhere, in a forested area not too far away from the city, the ground opens up to reveal a large spaceship. As it gains altitude, the crew discuss recent events in the bridge.
"Sir, ship is prepping for atmosphere exit. What do we do when we leave this planet?" A grunt asked.
A new leader of the Glyxians had been appointed as the old leader was currently being treated for burns and was unavailable to lead. The new leader clenched his hands.
"Once we are out of orbit, send the signal to ensure the chips self-destruct." The leader ordered. "This invasion is a failure. With the discovery of our plans by the Klyntar hero, the humans will surely be on guard for another attempt. We will leave this system at once and find a new planet to begin operations."
"I told our leader that using this planet was a terrible idea!" One of the higher ups said. "A majority population of meta-mutants was bad enough! Now they have a Klyntar amongst their ranks!"
"Blame the old leader all you want; we are lucky to escape without any casualties. You should count our blessings. Now, prepare for launch," The new leader said. "This planet's fate is now in the hands of the Klyntar."
At once, the ship rocketed to the stars above. Once out of Earth's orbit, it disappeared in a blink of light.
Toxin sat on a nearby rooftop, watching the smoke dissipate in the sky. The fire department was quick to quell the flames. They even had a Pro Hero helping, a walking firehose named Backdraft. Yet, Toxin felt like his mind was far away.
"So, you wanna talk about it?" The symbiote asked.
"About what?" Bren questioned. "The fact that we met other aliens on this Earth, or the fact that they know what you are?"
"Both works."
"I dunno, man. It just feels…so strange. I thought since none of the other Pro Heroes said they were aliens, I thought there wouldn't be any."
"It's a big universe out there. There's bound to be life elsewhere."
"And who knows how many of them are here? Hiding in plain sight?"
"Yeah…"
"You've got something on your mind, Toxin?" Bren asked.
"If those aliens were right, then that means other symbiotes are out there. Like me." Toxin said. "I thought since so much of our history and heroes weren't present on this Earth, there wouldn't be any symbiotes as well."
"So, what are you going to do now? Thinking about trying to connect with the hivemind?"
"I don't know. I was born disconnected from the symbiote hivemind. I'm used to being alone in my own headspace. Having a million other voices in my head doesn't sound appealing. But there's so much I could learn from them. Millions of lifetimes lived and recorded. So many worlds not yet known by humans. Hell, maybe they can even help me learn about myself."
"What do you think you should do?"
Toxin went silent. Bren hoped the symbiote didn't retreat into the recesses of its own mind to avoid confront the question. Toxin, however, changed the subject.
"What's that in your hand?"
Bren raised his arm to reveal a mask made in the shape of Shugi Hatsume's face. It was scarily lifelike, with every wrinkle, line, and detail present.
"When we were struggling with Hatsume to escape the underground base, she slipped out of our grasp, and this was all I got from her." Bren answered. "Do you think she wasn't even human in the first place? That she was an alien in disguise?"
"Whose to say now? They haven't been able to find the body yet. Though the mask is pretty damning, all things considered." Toxin answered.
"Or what is she was a human, and those aliens replaced her? Like that really old movie, the body snatchers one?" Bren paused before sighing. "I wonder if she has any family left? People she would have to bond and connect to. What are they going to think?"
"I can't say. Me personally, I wouldn't mind of some of my extended family bit the dust. But humans are different. Family is a source of strength for your people, not division. They'll mourn her like any human morns a loved one. Life goes on and all that."
"You're right. It sucks that the Hatsumes' lost someone, but Shugi was planning to betray humanity to an alien invasion. An invasion we stopped and is now crumbling to ashes. I hope this is the last we'll see of Shugi Hatsume, the Tinkerer, but I can't say for certain that we won't meet again."
Toxin dropped the Shugi face mask and let the symbiote cover his head. The vigilante leapt over the side and web swinged into the distance. The face mask laid there, as the cool wind blew across the rooftop. However, as the hours passed and everyone left the scene, a masked hand reached out of the darkness and took the mask, leaving nothing in its place.
And that's that! A one-shot homage to the old Amazing Spider-Man comics. This is adapts the Tinkerer's first appearance, where he was an ally to aliens looking to take over the Earth (Yes, I know they retconned the aliens to be guys in costumes, but I'm keeping to the spirit of the original story). Thank you for reading and leaving feedback. It means a lot to me.
So, this chapter reveals two big things about this story going forward: One, aliens are real, and two, symbiotes also exist in the MHA-verse. I always did want to toy around the idea of aliens existing in MHA's world. Other fanfics touch upon this, such as the idea that aliens can walk around on Earth just fine due to Quirks breaking the idea of what's considered "normal" and letting aliens blend in with the population. I wanted to put forth some of my ideas as well, like the idea that Earth is a "no-go" zone due to the majority of the population having superpowers and/or mutations. As for the symbiotes, well, they'll tie into the reason why Toxin was pulled from Marvel-Earth to MHA-Earth. But that's for another chapter.
Now, onto comments. I won't look at them individually, since they pretty much are all commenting on one idea. A lot of people are against the idea of Toxin joining UA, and I'll admit, that's my fault for being super vague about it. I wanted to tease future chapters while not spoiling the plot, so I figured I'd best clarify things here and now. For starters, Toxin will not officially join UA or class 1-A. He is, and will still be, considered a vigilante. However, that's not to say that Toxin won't get roped up in UA's shenanigans (or just MHA's actual story canon). Nor that's to say Toxin won't interact with any 1-A kids or the UA faculty. You're all just going to have to wait and see.
The other main topic that was pointed out by the comments I want to address is Bren's education. I'll admit, what I presented in the last chapter wasn't very thought out nor fully researched. I wanted to add in school elements (like any regular teenage superhero) while also keeping to previous established concepts (Bren not existing legally in MHA-Earth). That whole education concept was inspired by PrinceRiolu's The Green Spider crossover on Archive of Our Own. There, Izuku-as-Spider-Man takes online courses after failing UA's Support Course exam. I saw that as a template for "school but without the school" aspect I wanted in this fic. NuclearNacho pointed this whole thing out to me, and I have to admit he's right. I'll be updating Chapter 5 to reflect the future of this fic going forward.
This leads to my other big announcement: I am now open to beta readers! If you want to proofread my chapters on this, or any other story I upload, this is the perfect opportunity for you! You can improve my writing style, correct grammar or spelling mistakes, and even give feedback on if my ideas are stupid or not! Plus, you'll be the first one to read my chapters before anyone else! Doesn't that sound neat? For anyone interested, there is a beta reader section in your profiles you can fill out. If you are already registered as a beta reader, then you can just send me a message. I don't know how many are going to take this opportunity. If it's slow going, then it'll be first come, first serve. If there's a bunch of you, I'll message you on what I want to do.
That's all for now. See ya next time!
