Chapter 4
A fateful encounter
Kenneth stood there frozen, he didn't know why, but his name was so familiar. He was in such deep thought that it took him a few seconds to realize that Matthew left and went with Luffy to get a look at Zoro. Kenneth snapped out of his trans when someone tapped him on the back, he turned around to see Rika with a ladder. He took it from her and set the ladder on the wall beside the pink haired boy, Rika went up the ladder first and placed her index finger in front of her lip silently telling everyone to stay quiet. She jumped over the fence and walked towards Zoro who's currently stringed up to a wooden pole, Kenneth followed after her to see Zoro.
?: "Luffy, Matthew we gotta do something, they are gonna get killed if they go anywhere near him." He said hysterically
Matthew: "Relax Koby, even if he would try and do something to them. He can't he's tied up, remember?" He said in a calm manner
Koby decided to stay after realizing that.
Rika and Kenneth happily walked up to Zoro who gave them an annoyed expression but Rika and Kenneth didn't seem bothered by it.
Zoro: "What do you two want?" He asked in annoyance
Rika: "I thought you were hungry so I made a couple of rice balls." She replied as she offered them to Zoro.
Zoro: "I'm not hungry so get lost." He said stubbornly
Kenneth: "Look Zoro, I can tell you're hungry so why don't you accept Rika's offer?" He said reasonably
Zoro: "I said I don't want any, so back off." He said little bit more annoyed
Rika: "But-"
Zoro: "Don't make me kick your ass little girl!" He said starting to look irritated
A tick mark formed on Kenneth's head and he was about to say something until he heard an all too familiar laugh coming towards them, he turned his head to the right to see Helmeppo walking towards them.
Helmeppo: "Now, now, nobody likes a bully." "Roronoa Zoro, you seem to be handling this well wouldn't you agree.
Luffy: "Who's that weirdo?" He asked
Matthew just shrugged at the question.
Koby: "That's great, he must be with the marines, now we know those two will be safe." He said with relief
Matthew: "I don't know about that Koby." He said with slight worry
Koby: "What makes you say that Matthew?"
Matthew thought about that for a moment and figured out the best way to explain it.
Matthew: "Let's just say that some people who work alongside the authorities like to take the law into their own hands." He said casually
The three boys went back to see what would happen but little did Luffy and Koby know that Matthew was gonna be right about what he said about law enforcement.
Helmeppo ignored what Kenneth was about to say and noticed two rice balls in Rika's hands.
Helmeppo: "Oh? Those are some tasty looking rice balls." He said as he grabbed one and took a bite
Kenneth: "Hey, those aren't yours!" He said with irritation
Before Kenneth can do anything, Helmeppo spits out the rice in disgust.
Helmeppo: "Their packed with sugar!" you're supposed to use salt you idiot, salt!" He said in complete irritation
Kenneth looked to Rika with confusion
Kenneth: "Rika, why did you put sugar in them?" He asked
Rika: "Well, I thought they might taste better sweet." She answered
Helmeppo smacked the last one out of Rika's hand and started stomping on it until it was covered in dirt, Kenneth was about to punch him clean in the face until a certain marine called his name, Kenneth looked at Micheal who shook his head towards Kenneth. Kenneth begrudgingly and slowly puts his fist away as kneeled down and placed hand on Rika's shoulder while she's trying her best not to cry.
Rika: "B-B-But I work so hard to make those" She said as she sniffles
Helmeppo: "Too bad." He said in annoyance
Kenneth glares at Helmeppo as pulls a note.
Helmeppo: "You two must've not read the notice that was posted, those who assist criminals in any way will be executed and signed Marine Captain Morgan.
Kenneth looked to Rika who let out a terrified gasp leaving him a little confused
Helmeppo: "Hmph, it seems even little brats fear my Daddy." He said happily
Koby: "So that guy's Father is Captain Morgan." He said in surprise
Matthew: "Sure does sound like it." He said casually
Helmeppo: "You toss these brats out." He ordered
The soldier hesitated about throwing two kids over the wall, but Helmeppo grabbed him by the collar and brought him close to his face.
Helmeppo: "I said throw them over the wall, soldier do it or I'll tell my father." He threatened
The soldier walked up to RIka and whispered something to her.
Marine soldier: "I'm sorry about this try curling up into a ball." He said as he threw her over the wall
Luffy acted fast as he jumped off the wall and caught Rika before she hit the ground. The soldier was about to do the same to Kenneth until he stuck his hand out in front of him making the soldier stop in his tracks.
Kenneth: "I know my way out." He said simply
Kenneth walked away without saying a word as he made his way to the gate. Once he made it to where he and Rika came from he saw Koby checking on Rika, he quickly ran over to Rika and examined her to see if she received any cuts or bruises.
Kenneth: "Are you okay, are you hurt?" He said as he check her head and limbs in a comical manner
Rika: "Oh, yeah i'm fine i was about to hit the ground but that straw hat guy stretched his arm and caught me".
Kenneth: "Oh you mean he reached out his hand and caught you…right?"
Rika: "Umm, no he literally stretched his arm like a rubber band and caught me".
Kenneth: "I'm sorry Rika but did you fall and hit your head?"Kenneth asked as he put both hands on her head "do you have any brain damage?"
Rika tried to move Kenneth's hands that were on her head but he continued to put his hands back on her head but then he made her head turn up, down, left and right while rubbing his hands around her head she knew she couldn't stop him so she yelled out his full name.
Rika: "Omg Kenneth can you just stop, look I don't have brain damage alright and I know what I saw he stretched his arm I saw it myself ''.Rika said feeling a little offended and is getting puffed up.
Kenneth: "Are you sure that is what you saw?''Kenneth said, sounding a little intrigued .
Rika: "Yes, why don't you go see for yourself"she said to kenneth
Kenneth walked up to Luffy and asked him, but he and Matthew are no longer with them leaving Koby completely confused.
Koby: "Where did they go?"
Kenneth had an idea where they are right now but decided to get Rika out here and somewhere a little more safer.
Once they were far away from the marine base, well far enough they were greeted by Luffy and Matthew and told RIka that Zoro her rice ball even though it was pretty much a ball of mud. Rika had a bright smile on his face. She was really happy to hear that. Kenneth was glad to hear that Zoro at least ate something but he was focused on Matthew, he just needed a chance to talk to him and see if he remembers him. While the others were about to find out about Zoro's predicament Kenneth took this as an opportunity to talk to Matthew but didn't see him with Luffy.
Kenneth: "Hey Luffy, I'm sorry to interrupt but do you know where Matthew is?" He asked
Luffy: "oh, he's sitting on top of the roof." He answered
Kenneth gave him a dumbfounded expression.
Kenneth: "How did he, never mind thanks for telling me, I'm gonna go talk to him." He said as he walked into an alley and climbed to the roof of the building.
Once he made it to the roof, he saw Matthew sitting down cross legged as he watched the people down below go on with their daily lives but he stood up and turned around to Kenneth with cold expression
Matthew: "Who are you?" He said suspiciously
Kenneth carefully made his way completely on the roof, he walked toward Matthew and hoped that he would believe what he'll tell him.
Kenneth: "Well first of all my name is Kenneth and I think we were friends." said slowly and calmly because he thought the kid was gonna hit him.
Matthew looked at him like he was crazy
Matthew: "I highly doubt we ever met, or if we were even friends." He said with doubt
Kenneth: "We are friends, I even hav- Dang it!" He said frustration
Matthew: "What's wrong?" He asked
Kenneth: "My batteries are low, it's so hard to find a way to charge this thing, but look, see that's us right there." He said enthusiastically as he brought the phone to him.
Matthew took a closer look at the photo, his head started to throb in pain as all his memories were coming back to him like a storm. Matthew was on one knee as he grabbed his head, Kenneth crouched down and placed a hand on Matthew's shoulder.
Kenneth: "Matthew are you okay." He said in worry
Matthew stuck his hand front of him and gave Kenneth a nodd
After a few moments he was able to regain his composure, he and Kenneth stood up, turned to face Kenneth and gave him a friendly smile.
Matthew: "I'm glad to see you again Kenneth." He said in relief
Kenneth and Matthew decided to stay on the roof for a little longer and do some catching up on one another. They sat down together and talked.
Kenneth: "So, how long have you been in this world?" He asked
Matthew: "Six months." He answered like it's no big deal
Kenneth had a shocked expression on his face. "There's no way he's been here for six months." He thought in complete surprise.``how could that have happened if i could just remember-.'' Kenneth was suddenly cut off while he was in deep thought he barely noticed Mathew stood up and slapped across his face.
Kenneth:''Oooow~Mathew what the f-.''Kenneth was cut off shortly
Mathew: "Now since I remember you completely (inhaling deeply) I can't believe you tried to fight the guard, what the heck Kenneth?!" "I'm so glad to see you." He said happily as hugged Kenneth
Kenneth gaved Matthew an annoyed expression but hugged him back regardless. The two separated from each other and continued their conversation two minutes later the duo heard a familiar voice coming from below, they looked down and saw Helmeppo who just showed up and was about to talk to Luffy and the others about something. The duo decided to go check it out but when they were about to be any closer to the others Kenneth heard something from helmeppo that made him show an expression of complete malice as he ran ahead of Matthew and was right behind Rika and making her flinch at the sudden appearance of a friend.
Kenneth: "What, but you made a deal with him!" He said sternly
Helmeppo: "Oh, where did you hear that?" He said with no care
Helmeppo just scoffed at the deal he made with the pirate hunter.
Helmeppo: "That was just a joke!" He's just a stupid beast for believing it!" He said while laughing
Kenneth was about to punch Helmeppo's lights out until in a couple seconds Luffy beat him to it as he grabbed Helmeppo's collar and gave him a solid punch to the face. Before Luffy could hit him again Koby ran in to try and stop him from causing any more trouble.
Koby: "Luffy, stop calm down!" He said reasonably
Luffy: "This guy is scum!" He said looking angry
Koby: "Are you trying to make an enemy out of the navy!?" He asked
Matthew: "So scum is scum, no matter who it is!
Helmeppo got up and placed his hand on his face where Luffy hit him. And tears started to stream down from his face as he angrily stared at Luffy. As two marine soldiers helped him off the ground.
Helmeppo: "Y-you, you just hit me! No one has ever hit me, not even Daddy!" He shouted
Kenneth scoffed at that and walked up to Matthew and whispered obnoxiously to him so Helmeppo would hear him.
Kenneth: "That would explain why he acts like a b****." He whispered while smiling
Matthew nodded in agreement.
Helmeppo: "I'm Captain Morgan's son!" "I'm telling my daddy on you!" He shouted
All the civilians screamed as they ran to their homes and closed their doors, but among the crowd there was a certain redhead girl who was accompanied by a blond boy as they both walked away from the scene.
Matthew and Kenneth raised an eyebrow and gave him a look like he's a homeless man who was asking them for money, as Rika hid behind Kenneth for safety.
Matthew: "What are you six, get up and fight like a man." He said as stuck his tongue at him
Luffy: "Yeah don't run to papa!" "Face me like a man!" He said with annoyance
Koby: "Guys please stop!" He begged
As Helmeppo was being carried away he gave a mischievous grin.
Helmeppo: "You'll be begging for mercy!" "You're a Walking Corpse!" He said with anger
Kenneth was about to retort but decided not to, thinking that the punch he got from Luffy was enough. He saw Rika left from behind him and went to talk to Luffy who finally calmed down as he got his hat back from Matthew and put it back on his head.
Luffy: "He's not worth hitting. He said finally calmed down
Matthew: "Couldn't have said it better myself." He replied
Koby: "Now you've done it." He said as sweat buckets
Rika walked up to Luffy looking jubilant after Luffy hit Helmeppo
Rika: "You were great, big brother!" "Thanks." She said with great appreciation
Kenneth gave her an expression of shock at what she just called Luffy, He blew air out of his nostrils with irritation. It was enough for Rika to notice as turned her head towards Kenneth to see the sour expression on his face.
Rika: "Kenneth, are you okay?" She asked innocently
Kenneth calmed himself down as he breathed in and breathed out.
Kenneth: "Don't worry, I'm fine." He said trying not to lose his cool
Ririka: "Kenneth, RIka, get over here!" She shouted
Kenneth and Rika went to Ririka as she walked them to the house.
Ririka: "You two shouldn't be talking to them." "They'll think you're their friends and they'll kill the both of you along with them! She lectured
Kenneth: "Now Ririka, those guys aren't bad people."
Rika: "He's right Mommy, Luffy's a good man and Zoro, he's a good-
Ririka: "What are you saying!?" "You two didn't go to the parade ground did you!?" She said sounding a little upset
"Um…well…no-o-o…." Rika and Kenneth said in unison
Ririka: "Well alright, hurry up, let's get inside." She said as she brought them inside
But as they went inside Rika and Kenneth shot Luffy and the others an apologetic look before Ririka closed the door behind them. Kenneth went into his room feeling guilty, he wished there was something he could do for them. Until he heard a knock on the window behind him, he turned his head around to see Matthew waving at him behind the window. Without hesitation he opened the window and let Matthew in.
Kenneth: "What are you doing here?" He said in confusion
Matthew: "I came to get you out of here, cause I need your help breaking Zoro out of jail." He said Simply
Kenneth: "Huh?" "How did you know I wanted to help?" He said in surprise
Matthew gave Kenneth a look that said dude seriously.
Matthew: "I knew you for two in a half years, you really think I don't know that you would go over there even though you'll get into a lot of trouble?" He said with a small smile
Kenneth's eyes started to shift away from Matthew in embarrassment.
Kenneth: "Well, w-when you put it like that." He said in embarrassment
Matthew: "Okay now let's get going, Luffy's already there and it won't be long until he causes some kind of trouble." He said as he climbed back out of the window
Kenneth nodded and was about to go out the window with him until he heard someone let out a yelp and heard a thud from behind him, he turned around and saw Rika who was carefully getting up from the ground and rubbing her head.
Kenneth: "Rika, what are you doing here?" "Wait, were you spying on me?" He asked
Rika stood up and looked a little nervous but replied with a nod.
Rika: "I was thinking of coming along with you two and doing something that could help." She said nervously
Kenneth wasn't sure about bringing Rika with cause he didn't want to get into any more trouble with Ririka than he'll soon be in for what he's about to do.
Matthew: "Let her come along." He said calmly
Kenneth: "Matthew, are you suffering from dementia, she's a twelve year old girl and I don't think bringing her along would be a good idea!" He comically told him with a mixture of irritation and annoyance
Matthew: "She might be able to help us, give her a chance." He said with cheeky smile
Kenneth looked to Rika with concern but ultimately decided to go along with it.
Kenneth: "Rika, you can come with us but you'll have to stay where I can see you." He told her
Rika gave him a nod and with that, the gang snuck through the window, made it outside the house. They ran all the way to the marine base to help luffy. But little did they know, they were about to be in a bad situation and they were gonna be out of time, out of luck and out of options.
Now here's where you all come in and vote about what will happen next, will Kenneth join the marines or join Luffy and become a pirate and if joins Luffy will he take Rika with him. We'll be taking bit of a break from pirate legends because we have to do Ultra zone for while cause the 7th anniversary of undertale is coming and we want to do as many chapters as we can for Ultra zone to celebrate. And we need at least ten votes to decided what happen next in chapter 5. Also if you don't want to vote, you could at least review and tell us what you think.
