Chapter 5: A Fossil and A Hard Place
When We last left our Hero, John the Ace Trainer, John had made it back to Viridian City after receiving a beat down from his last battle which left Sparks the Pichu, traumatized from facing off against Pokemon bigger than her. After getting all of his Pokemon healed, John once again takes on the challenge of the Viridian Forest. By dumb luck, encountered and captured a Shiny Naive Weedle whom he named Dizzy, caught a Bold Pidgey named Airazor, and managed to get both Dizzy and Monarch to evolve into their 2nd stage forms of Kakuna and Metapod respectfully during his time in the forest until he finally reached Pewter City.
It seemed he just came into town just in time for their annual local Pokemon tournament in which he entered. There he met a newfound friend in the form of Aya Williams, the blind Hobbyist Trainer along with her Starter Pokemon, Rascal the Naughty Munchlax, and Leo the Gentle but protective Service Lucario.
While Aya won the tournament the two trainers became fast friends and after watching John's battle against his rival, Flash, decided to travel with John where the two will become the best like no one ever was.
It's the next day as John and Aya are dropped off at the Pokemon Center. John and Aya both are planning to get some training done for the morning. John has explained about the whole job request board to Aya as a way for Pokemon Trainers to gain some experience, help those who are in need, and some of these jobs have rewards from receiving items or earning money. It's a slow day at the Pokemon Center as most Trainers who only came for the tournament have already left but there in the lobby stands a woman holding a microphone and a man with a large news camera. Before John can even say anything, the woman spots the two young trainers first and walks over to them.
"Excuse me, but we are looking to interview some Trainers for a Kanto piece about new inspiring trainers for the region. Would you care to take a moment of your time and answer a few questions?" the woman asks the two young trainers.
"An interview?" John asks as he looks confused on why just some random news reporter was looking for Novice Trainers to interview. However, upon hearing the voice, Aya has a face of recognition as she blushes and starts trembling.
"G-Gabby from International PokeNews, w-wants to interview u-us?" Aya stutterers out, the thought of being on camera, gives her a bit of stage fright.
"Wait you know who she is?" John asks.
"Yeah, she's Gabby the Pokemon Trainer reporter. She goes from region to region to cover Pokemon events such as spot events, large tournaments, Pokemon Contests, regional Pokemon Leagues, or anything involving Pokemon Trainers and their Pokemon," Aya says as she informs her friend.
"Ah, I see we have a fan." The reporter Gabby says with a smile.
"I um listen to the Pokemon sporting channels and radio stations a lot. . . . when I am studying on Pokemon and b-battling styles that is," Aya says as she fiddles with the handle of her cane.
"Oh, now I remember! Didn't you interview Raihan from the Galar Region?" John asks.
"Why yes I did, that was last year. This year I'm here in Kanto to cover all the major events including the League event itself. I thought it would be a good idea to do a piece where I get to meet and interview a few Trainers who have just started their careers as Pokemon Trainers," says Gabby.
"In that case, sure! You can interview me and Aya!" John says excitedly.
"W-wait what?" Aya asks as she looks shocked and a little annoyed that John has just volunteered her for the interview.
"Great! Let's have it in the training room. I'm sure we can get some great lighting and shots from there!" Gabby says.
"Yeah, those rooms normally have large windows back there and at this time of day, we will be able to get a lot of natural light," says her cameraman, Ty, as he agrees with her. The group enters the said training area before Gabby gets Aya, Leo, and John to perfectly line up as Ty double-checks his camera equipment.
"Now, just remember, just act like yourself and pretend that the camera is not there," Gabby says as she gives the two young trainers some advice. With that Ty sets his camera on his shoulders.
"Alright we are recording in 3, 2," Ty says as he counts down before he gives the signal.
"Today I am here in Pewter City with these two young inspiring Pokemon Trainers as they have just started their Pokemon journey. Can you introduce yourself and share a bit about where you're from?" Gabby asks before holding her mic out to the two.
"Yeah, I'm John Russi. I live and grew up in Pallet Town for most of my life," John says with pride in his voice.
"U-um. . . . . M-my name is Aya Williams and. . . . I'm from Unova but me and my mom moved here to Pewter City a couple of years ago. I like Nacrene City, it's where I used to live but um, . . . I think I like Pewter City and Kanto better," Aya says, feeling a little nervous.
"Now you said for most of your life, did you live somewhere else John?" Gabby asks.
"Yeah, my Mom says we came from Unova too, I think I used to live in Castelia City but I don't remember it all that much. I think my mom moved us to Pallet Town when I was still little," John says as he looks deep in thought as he tries to remember, as his dad currently lives in Castelia City.
"I see so what inspired you two to become Pokemon trainers?" Gabby asks.
"Oh, that's easy. I'm really into adventure and action shows, books, and comics, and since I really love Pokemon and wanna befriend as many Pokemon as I can. I thought I could be a Trainer. I'm also inspired by a lot of known Dragon Masters like Lance! He has such cool Pokemon and he looks like a adventuring hero and I wanna be just like that!" John says excitingly.
"Um w-well. I didn't have a lot of friends growing up, I just started listening to the Pokemon Battles on the radio and um, I. . . . just found them interesting and I thought it would be fun," says Aya.
"Now a lot of starting trainers pick a Starter Pokemon. What are your twos' Starters and what led you to your choice?" Gabby asks.
"My starter is Blaze, he's a Charmander. I always like Charmanders and their entire evolution line. I think they are very cool Pokemon. Some of the best trainers have at some point got a Charmander. I have a feeling that was Lance's starter. Didn't Leon the Galar Champion have one too?" John asks.
"Why yes he does. It's his Ace Pokemon as well," Gabby says.
"Oh cool!" John says out loud.
"And you Aya?" ask Gabby.
"Well, I wouldn't say I choose him. More like he chose me," Aya says as she fumbles with her cane handle as she is trying to get comfortable with being on camera.
"Care to tell us more about that?" Gabby asks.
"Well, it was a month before I got my Pokedex. My Lucario, Leo, alerted me and my mom of something out back. That's when we found Rascal, my Munchlax stuck in our garbage cans outside. I begged my mom for us to keep him and she let me. On the condition that he is to be my Starter Pokemon."
"Well, that is very touching. What challenges are you two looking forward to the most as you embark on your Pokémon Journey?" Gabby asks
"Why the Gym Battles, and the Pokemon Leagues throughout the world! If I'm going to be one of the few great adventuring hero trainers out there, I need to least earn the title of a champion first, and I just don't want that handed to me, I want it to be tough so I can grow stronger and stronger!" says John.
"Well, I don't want a special title like champion. I just wanna face the same challenges that any other trainer goes through. It's just going to be more challenging for me," says Aya
"Why would it be more challenging for you Aya?" Gabby asks. Aya clams up as she gets very nervous.
"I um, . . . I don't w-want to draw a lot of attention to th-that," Aya meekly stutterers.
"John has mentioned that he wants to be a Champion and an adventuring Hero. Are there any specific goals or accomplishments you're aiming for?" Gabby asks as she holds the mic towards the blind trainer.
"Well, um, I just want to prove that I am a. . . very capable trainer and that s-someone like me can be a great Pokemon Trainer,"
"How do the two of you prioritize the well-being and happiness of your Pokémon during your journey? " Gabby asks both trainers.
"A lot, Pokemon are not just creatures we send out to fight for us. They are our partners, our friends. Some people may see or use Pokemon as tools or weapons but they are much more than that. They are living beings as well. I want my Pokemon to be happy and to see me as their friend," said John.
"I feel the same way. We care a lot about our Pokemon," Aya says with a nod.
"Well, I must say you two have a lot of heart and soul. You two do really seem to care a lot about your Pokemon. But how do you connect with other Pokémon Trainers and the broader Pokémon community?" asked Gabby.
"Um. . . . I'm not s-sure yet," Aya says as she looks away.
"Well I wanna help a lot of people and Pokemon in any way I can," said John.
"I see. Well, John, I think you are well on your way if you wanna be a adventuring hero and I'm sure you will find a way to connect to the community one of these days Aya. Now before we finish may I ask for you two to a demonstration of your battling skills in a League rules double battle?" Gabby asks.
"Y-you wanna battle me and J-John?" Aya asks
"Why yes, we want those at home to see how far you two come since your first day as a Trainer," said Gabby.
"Yeah, I'm up for a battle!" John calls out.
"Um, . . . ok. A doubles battle sounds fun," said Aya as she agrees to a battle. The two groups split off to the different ends of the practice field with John and Aya going to the red side and the News crew going to the green side. Gabby tosses out a Pokeball and calls out a small
2-foot tall, round, pink Pokemon with yellow round floppy ears while Ty sends out a small metallic ball Pokemon with a single eye, two screws below the eye, and a singular large screw on top of its round body and two magnets on either side. Aya sends out Rascal as John sends out Blaze.
"Go, get in Range, and use Thundershock on the Munchlax!" Ty calls out to his Pokemon.
"Use Astonish on the Charmander!" Gabby orders out to her's.
"Um, back up Blaze, and use Tackle, Rascal. " Aya orders to Rascal.
"Go, Blaze! Get in range of that Steel-Type Pokemon and use Ember!" John calls out to Blaze as he points towards Ty's Pokemon. The four Pokemon start to sprint towards each other at the commands of their trainers with Blaze moving the fastest and covering more ground. The steel ball Pokemon however just lazy floats towards John's and Aya's Pokemon with its pink partner slowly following behind it on its right.
As the Pokemon race off John is able to identify the Pokemon that Gabby and Ty are using. Gabby's Pokemon is a level 8 female Whismur, a Normal-Type Pokemon with a Quirky nature and has the soundproof ability and Ty's Pokemon is a level 8 Magnemite, an Electric and Steel-type with an Impish nature and the magnet pull ability. John had a hunch that Ty's Pokemon would be Steel-Type as he relays this information to Aya.
"Sounds like you and Blaze should focus on that Magnemite then. Leave the Whismur to me and Rascal," said Aya. Blaze reaches the news team Pokemon first as he leaves Rascal way behind. The Charmander looks up at the Magnemite, who is floating about 2 meters off the ground, and lets out a cute but mighty roar at it as he fires off small balls of fire at it. The attack hits the Magnet Pokemon, dealing a lot of damage to it as it is super effective. However, the Magnemite ignores Blaze as it starts to float past by him with Rascal doing his best to catch up to the rest of the Pokemon. As Blaze is focused on the Magnemite, the Whismur comes up to Blaze, attacking him with a loud shout but dealing little damage to the Charmander.
"Use Supersonic on the Charmander before attacking the Munchlax," Ty calls out to his Pokemon.
"Now use Echoed Voice!" Gabby calls out to Whismur.
"Come on Rascal, you can do it! Just remember the training you get with Leo." Aya calls out. The Munchlax remembers his brutal training. Feeling empowered now, Rascal is now feeling brutal.
"Don't let that Magnenite go! Use Ember again!" John calls out as he punches the air. Before the Magnemite has a chance to let out an attack, Blaze lets out another ember attack, scoring a direct, super-effective hit on the Electrict-Steel-Type Pokemon. Its round metal body now has scorch marks on it as it falls to the ground, fainted. Rascal however is still trying to make his way towards the fight as Whismur lets out a cry, dealing some sonic damage to Blaze as the Charmander holds his head where his lizard-like ears would be.
"Now use Pound!" Gabby calls out as Ty the Camera recalls his only Pokemon back into its ball.
"Disengage and regroup with Rascal," John orders out. With that Blaze backs away from the Whismur about 3 feet before he turns towards Rascal and starts heading towards the Munchlax as the Whismur gives chase to the Charmander.
"Use Echo Voice on either of those Pokemon" Gabby calls out. As Blaze and Rascal meet up, Rascal gets in between the Charmander and the Whismur as the Whismur stops at about 3 meters from the Munchlax and lets out a cry. However, as she tries to cry out her sonic attack she just lets out a pant after having to run from such a long way.
"Use Pound on Charmander!" calls out Gabby.
"Now's your chance Rascal!" Aya cheers out.
"Flank that Whismur now and use Scratch!" Calls out John. Blaze gets nearly behind the Whismur as he raises a claw and brings it down on the Whisper Pokemon's right side, dealing a good amount of damage as Rascal suddenly comes up to the Whismur's front. With Blaze flanking her, the Whismur has no room to evade as the Munchlax tackles into her, dealing a lot of damage as she is pushed back 6 feet away from Rascal. As Whismur gets back up she notices that Blaze is still in striking range for her next attack. She jumps towards Blaze and slams one of her stubby arms against the Charmander's forehead. Blaze's eyes go crosseyed as he falls back and faints.
"Now use Echoed Voice on Munchlax!" Gabby calls out
"Use Tackle again Munchlax!" Aya calls out as John recalls Blaze back into his Pokeball.
"You got this Aya," John says with a smile, he is having fun battling alongside the blind trainer but he refuses to call out another of his own Pokemon. Rascal rushes up to Whismus and he throws his body into her in a tackle. Dealing a massive amount of damage to her as she flies back and lands in a heap as the Whismur faints.
"Yeah, you did it Aya!" John calls out.
"We won? We won! We beat Gabby!" Aya says as she hugs Leo.
Gabby smiles as she returns her Whismur back into her ball before she turns towards the camera. "As you can see. These two new Trainers may have a lot of growing to do but they have a lot of potential. Who knows how far these two trainers can go? This is Gabby from International Pokenews."
"And cut. That's it, I think we got some good shots in that battle," Ty says as he turns off his camera.
"Did you get a shot of Whismur getting flanked by their Pokemon? Did you get a good angle?" Gabby asks her Cameraman.
"Yeah! I got that and some other good shots," Ty says before he starts to pack up his equipment. At this, Gabby heads over to John and Aya who the latter is petting Rascal for doing such a good job.
"Thank you for your time. That was a fun double battle," Gabby says to the two.
"Oh um. I-it was nothing. I hope I didn't make you look bad on camera," Aya meekly says.
"No, you didn't. This article was supposed to focus on you two. You two do make a good team," said Gabby.
"Oh th-thank you," Aya says with a smile.
"Thanks and that was a fun battle," said John.
"Oh before you two go get your Pokemon healed. Here have this, as compensation for your taking your time for this interview," Gabby says as she gives 1,600 Poke to both trainers.
"No way, really?!" John asks.
"Th-thank you but are you sure I can have this?" Aya asks as well.
"Why yes, It was a part of the agreement the studio had with me for interviewing new Trainers," Gabby says. After another round of "thank yous" the News Crew get their Pokemon healed and leave the center. John and Aya get Blaze and Rascal healed as well before John goes over to the PC and he switches Monarch for Airazor. Afterward, John shows Aya the request board and how to use it, as he does so and finds the accessibility option, they are both shocked to see that the Pewter Museum has a group of researchers going out the next day to a fossil dig and are asking for trainers to join them and help them look for fossils.
"That's odd, my Mom works at the Pewter Museum. Oh now I remember, I think she told me that they have been planning this for a while now and that the dig site is a few miles from here," said Aya as she remembered what Gwen told her.
"How about we help them out? It could be a good way for us to learn about ancient Pokemon?" asked John.
"Well my Mom does work for the Museum and they are sponsoring me as a Pokemon trainer. . . Okay, let's do it." Aya says with a nod.
"Hey Aya, my Pidgey is kinda under-level compared to the rest of my Pokemon. Wanna help me train her up?" asked John.
"Sure I can help. I wanna give a little training to Rascal as well," said Aya as she smiles. For an hour John and Aya give some experience training to Rascal, Airazor, and Sparks. For most of the day both John and Aya work on training the Pidgey, Airazor. With Aya's help in studying Pokemon Training, they have her do acrobatic ring flying., striking moving targets, and endurance flying to get her to level up. To finish up her leveling training they have her, Rascal, Holly, and Sparks Play fight. Rascal however just yawns and walks over to where Leo is sitting cross-legged and watching and flops onto the Lucario's lap as the Lucario gives out an annoyed grunt. Sparks and Holly seemed evenly matched but it was Airazor who came out on top.
As the two trainers are about to go outside to eat their packed lunch did John notices a stressed-out tiny Psyduck trying to cross the road before it retreats onto the sidewalk before a car can hit the tiny Pokemon. John was able to rush over to the little Psyduck and get it to calm down. Aya wanting to help was able to tell that the Psyduck is just a baby and must be looking for its mother. John gets a feeling that the Psyduck may have come from a nearby park, With Aya's help they find the closest park and find a distressed Golduck. John and Aya return the Psyduck back to its mother and watch as the two are happily reunited. After seeing the two Water-type Pokemon leave for the small pond did the two trainers decide to have their lunch with their Pokemon but as they eat the mother Golduck comes back and gives John what looks like a neckless with a veil of liquid, upon a closure look, John can see that the mother Golduck has given him a Mystic Water.
After lunch is over they take a quick stop at the PokeMart where John buys 6 Pokeballs before they head back to the Pokemon Center to wait for Gwen to finish with work. John spends this time doing experience training with Blaze, Brisby, and Dizzy and having them play fight as well with Bribsy coming out on top. By evening time the duo have been picked up by Gwen and they return to Aya's home for the night. As they eat Dinner the two young trainers tell Gwen about the request made by the Museum.
"Really, that's great! That group told me that they just received two notifications that two trainers accepted their request. I didn't know it was you," Gwen
says with delight.
"Do you know how early we need to be up Mom?" Aya asks.
"Well if you don't want to walk to the dig site you two will need to be up very early in the morning. Tell you what. I'll set an alarm and wake the two of you up, ok?" Gwen asks.
"Sounds like a plan to me! By the way, this pasta is really good!" John says after swallowing a mouthful of food.
"Um, th-thank you. I cooked this time," Aya says as she blushes from the praise.
"Really? Wow, you are a good cook." John says with a smile. Aya just blushes even harder.
"Well, she learned from the best," Gwen says as she smiles with pride.
"W-well Munchlax and Snorlax do eat a lot. I wanna learn how to cook so I can make filling meals for Rascal so he can feel satisfied and happy without having him eat tons and tons of food," said Aya.
"Well with food like this I'm sure you can tame the most hungriest of Snorlax's out there," John says before he goes back to finishing his plate. The Pasta is that of spiral noodles that have been cooked tender lightly seasoned and dressed in olive oil topped with a zesty homemade marinara meat sauce and sprinkled with fresh whole moomoo milk mozzarella cheese that has slightly melted from the heat of the sauce.
Later on, as they turn in for the night Aya notices that John would call back all of his Pokemon but one for the night. Aya has noticed this the night before as well.
"Say, John which Pokemon are you leaving out at night?" Aya asks as Leo cuddles up to her in her bed.
"Oh just Sparks. I'm letting her sleep with me. Why?" John asks back as he is already in his sleeping bag with the said Pichu.
"I was just wondering. Why just her?" Asks Aya.
"Well, Sparks here had a really bad battle against another Trainer and his Heracross. I'm worried that she might have nightmares about the battle and I want her to feel like she is safe with me. Before last night, I would have a couple of my other Pokemon sleep with us as well but I don't want you to feel like I'm crowding your room with having three of my Pokemon out for the night at the same time," said John.
"Aw that's adorable and sweet of you," Aya says as she hugs Leo before she rests her head against her pillow and closes her eyes. "Goodnight John and sleep well Sparks,"
"Good night Aya," John says as Sparks lets out a happy "Pichu" before the two relax in John's sleeping bag. Early the next morning John and Aya are awoken by Gwen. After some time the two are showered and dressed before Gwen drives them to Pewter Museum. As Gwen heads off to start an early day at work the two young trainers meet up with the leading Paleontologist of the dig team. Turns out they have arrived before the team is ready to set. So to kill time, John and Aya do some training near the trucks that they'll be taking with Rascal, Dizzy, Airazor, and Sparks. After an hour the dig team is ready to head out. John and Aya board the truck with the leading Paleontologist before they take off. As the trucks leave Pewter City they get to talking with the man who appears to be 50 years old with a round but fit figure, bushy beard, and salt and pepper colored hair.
"Thank you once again for accepting our request, We had two of our Research hands drop out due to some personal problems," The man says
"The Museum sponsors me. I would love to help out any way that I can," said Aya.
"How far is the Dig site from Pewter City?" asks John.
"A few miles away. We should reach the sight within an hour. We just established the area as a good potential area for undisturbed Pokemon fossils. We plan to dig up as many as we can throughout the day until early evening. If you trainers can be able to help us find three Pokemon fossils you can keep at least one that you dug up." said the man.
"Ah cool!" John shouts out loud in excitement.
"Do we have to be worried about disturbing any nearby Wild Pokemon?" Asked Aya.
"Hopefully not. We didn't see any wild Pokemon when we set up the dig site the other day, but we will be deep in the mountains so there might be a chance that wild Pokemon have moved into the surrounding area." said the man as he scratched his breaded chin.
With no further questions, the hour-long ride ended up being rough and bumpy. It's not a very enjoyable ride for the two young Pokemon Trainers and service Lucario. The Trucks stop at what looks to be a river bed that has been dried out for many years. From there the group exited the trucks and walked up along the path that was once cut from an ancient running river until they reached a deep pit that ounce could have been a Lake. Topsoil has already been removed as crates of equipment are laid out in the river bed on off to the edges of the lake pit.
"Okay team, let's keep the dig site clean. We don't want any fossils damaged. If you need a water break or a bite to eat, head back to the trucks. If you need to use the bathroom go behind the brush and remember to barry it." said the Lead Paleontologist. With that John and Aya are given tools that are meant to dig for fossils and are given a short explanation on how to use them.
After an hour of digging John is unable to find a fossil but a Thunderstone instead, As Aya finds a Waterstone herself. After another hour of digging John manages to find an actual Pokemon Fossil.
"I found one! I found one!" John calls out in excitement as he uncovers the fossil more and more.
"Really?" Aya calls out as she races over to where she hears John's voice with Leo to guide her. She helps pull the fossil out but by feel alone she is unable to tell what kind of fossil it is as John gives it to the Lead Paleontologist, who then carefully packs it up in one of the wooden crates. As Aya goes back to her spot her tools hit something hard and she too finds another fossil, as she uncovers, she feels for the fossil before she has Leo help her lift the fossil out and give it to the Paleontologist.
"Sir, I think it's a Dome Fossil!" Aya says happily.
"Why yes, it appears to be so. Good work meh girl!" The man says before he takes the fossil and packs it with John's. Two hours later the researchers were able to dig up another fossil. By noon Aya was able to find another one, this time a Root Fossil as the researchers found one as well. By this time both John and Aya decide to take a water break and get some food that the dig team has brought along with them as they head over back to the trucks.
"Man, who knew that digging for Pokemon Fossils was such hard work," John says before he chugs down a bottle of water.
"Well from my studies, it takes a lot of time and patience. Sometimes it takes days for a team to finish excavating a dig site of all possible fossils," said Aya as she shares half of a ham sandwich with Leo. The Lucario happily eats his half as his tail wags.
"Well, at least they brought along some good sandwiches for this trip. Emboar Head's Deli meat and cheese!" said John as he opens up a packaged chicken sandwich. As John pulls out one half of his sandwich, he suddenly jumps up from his folding chair and raises his sandwich high as a small paw tries to reach for his lunch. John looks down and to his shock sees a similar but smaller Pokemon to Leo the Lucario. This Pokemon does not yet have a full upper torso of fluffy yellow fur but a collar around its neck, smaller pointed ears and only two dreadlock appendages hanging from the back of its head as it stands at over 2 feet tall.
"Hey, this is my sandwich," John says as he keeps the sandwich out of reach of the small Pokemon. Aya hearing John talking to an unknown Pokemon takes out her Pokedex and points it towards John's direction.
Riolu: The Emanation Pokemon. The Pre-evolve form of Lucario. They communicate with one another using their auras. They are able to run all through the night.
"Aww, how cute! It's a Riolu! I remember when I first got Leo when he was a service Riolu in-training," says Aya as she fans over Fighting-Type Pokemon. "John it must be hungry. Why not share a sandwich with the pup?"
"Well. . . . okay but just half a sandwich," John says before he kneels down to the Riolu and and holds out half of his sandwich. "Here, next time just ask to share instead of trying to steal someone's food."
The Riolu sniffs at the sandwich half that John is holding out to her before she takes it in both forepaws and starts to gobble down the sandwich as if it's the last piece of food on the earth. Before John can get a good read on the Riolu's level and gender, it finishes its free meal from him as it howls out a "Rio!" and takes off running towards the dig site.
"Dang, I was hoping to catch it," John says as he watches the Riolu runoff.
"Maybe you'll see it again. Who knows maybe I'll catch-" Aya was about to say before she was cut off by Leo giving out an alarm bark. Alerting her that Rascal has gotten out of his ball and is trying to raid the food cooler. "No Rascal! You can't have the whole thing!" Aya calls out as both she and Leo wrestle the Munchlax away from the cooler.
A half-hour later after feeding their Pokemon as well, the two head back to the dig site when all of a sudden they hear a commotion from the researchers. John and Aya quickly rush into the dig site where all of the researchers and their Pokemon have fled the area.
"Hey, what's going on?" John asks one of the researchers.
"Some Riolu just showed up and started messing with everyone, Trying to get them and their Pokemon to fight with it. It was cute and all but now it just made one of the Rhyhorns upset and sent it into a rage." says one researcher.
"Oh no we got to help that Riolu!" Aya calls out.
"Yeah and stop them from destroying the dig site. Come on!" John says as they both walk into the entrance of the dried-up lake bed. They see the two Pokemon in the middle of the dig site with the Rhyhorn looking pretty angry. With this John and Aya call out Airazor
and Rascal out respectfilly as the two Pokemon appear 6 meters away from the two young Trainers.
Seeing as this could be a dangerous battle, Leo chooses to stay by Aya's side to protect her just in case the Rhyhorn decides to attack his blind trainer. Airazor right away notices the Rhyhorn and Riolu, seeing the Rhyhorn as a bigger target decides to hop about 3 feet across the ground before flapping her wings to blast the Rhyhorn with Sand Attack. However, a guest of wind blows in her direction as she lets out her attack, resulting in the sand getting blasted back into her, temporarily blinding her. The Riolu however rushes up to the Rhyhorn and tries to punch it in the face only for the Ground-Rock-Type to block the punch with its stone-hard horn.
"Rhyhorn, you gotta calm down! I'm sure the Riolu didn't mean it! If you don't calm down then you'll destroy the dig site and all of the fossils!" John calls out to the Ryhorn as he runs up from behind Airazor and Rascal. It seems John's words and feelings have gotten to the Rhyhorn as it no longer looks angry but it's still fearful of this random Riolu coming up to it and trying to pick a fight with it. Rascal walks up to the two dueling Pokemon and tackles into the Riolu, dealing massive damage to it, but while the Riolu takes the hit, it transfers the power from the force of the tackle into its paw before punching the Munchlax in the chest with twice the power as it uses tackle before she flies off 2 meters away from Rascal and lands on her hind paws, twisting her ankle with a pained yip as Rascal cries out in pain as he feels a rib snap from the punch. The Rhyhorn now fearing the might of Rascal disengages away from the Munlax about 3 feet away while keeping an eye on the Riolu. Aya leaves Leo's side as she walks off the dirt trail that the researchers made as she makes her way toward Rascal.
"Rascal are you ok?! Please don't scare the Riolu," Aya cries out as Leo quickly catches up to her on her right. Letting out a bark to let her know where he is. As Leo races off to catch up with Aya, the Riolu moves faster than the Lucario to rush up to what it believes to be another challenger and punches Rascal in the face with a Quick Attack, dealing a good amount of damage as Rascal is starting to not look so good. Airazor hops up to the Riolu thinking it's the Rhyhorn before she tries lunges towards the Riolu with a Tackle attack but misses as the Riolu pushes her back. John, seeing how much damage the Riolu has taken, pulls out a Pokeball and throws it towards the Riolu. As the ball arches over Airazor's head, it hits the Riolu on the top of the head before landing on the ground. It shakes three times with the capture light blinking yellow before it clicks as the light turns green with a successful capture before it starts to glow and is teleported back to John's storage system in Professor Oak's lab.
Rascal feeling hurt waddles over to Aya as he whimpers in pain as the Rhyhorn backs up and way towards the northeast corner of the dig site. Aya fishes into her backpack pulls out a potion and sprays Rascal with it as Leo watches the retreating Rhyhorn. Airazor still feeling like she is in the heat of battle flies after the Rhyhorn with John running up along her side.
"Airazor no! Leave the Rhyhorn alone," John commands as Airazor stops in midair, flapping her wings to stay airborne. John then turns towards the Rhyhorn and starts to speak softly to it. "Hey, easy there buddy. No one is going to hurt you. You are ok. The scary Riolu is gone now. it's ok. It's okay," as John calmly talks to the Rhyhorn the Ground-Rock-Type starts to calm down enough for John to slowly walk up to the Rhyhorn to the point he can reach out and gently pets its rock-hard head. The Rhyhorn relaxes and nuzzles into John's hand as it no longer feels afraid and threatened.
"See it's okay," John says softly as he continues to pet the Spikes Pokemon. Aya returns Rascal back into his Pokeball as she can only feel slight bruises. Unknowning of the Munchlax's broken rib but makes a mental note to herself to get him fully healed once they get back into the city. No longer hearing any commotion, the researchers walk into the entrance of the dig site and see that the situation has settled down and that the Riolu is gone. The head Paleontologist walks over to the two trainers and pats both Aya and John on the back.
"Nice work you two! You didn't even needed to faint our Rhyhorn to stop it from destroying the work site," the man says happily.
"Thank you sir, but I think any kind-hearted, respectable trainer would do the same thing we did," John says as Aya blushes but nods in agreement.
"Tell you what. I think you kids have done enough for us today. I have one of the trucks send you back to Pewter City early." said the man.
"But don't you still need our help with the fossil dig?" asked Aya.
"Now young Miss, like I said you have done a lot for us. Not only did you stopped that Riolu and Rhyhorn from tearing up the site but you also helped us find a total of five Pokemon Fossils. That's enough for the both of you to take one each. The one that you found John and Aya, you get to pick which one that you want to take with you," said the man.
"Okay. . . . . I think I'll take the Dome Fossil," said Aya after she gave it some thought. A few minutes later John and Aya are given their Pokemon Fossils and receive many "Thank you"'s from all the researchers including the one that owns the Rhyhorn. After an hour-long drive, the two are back in Pewter City. With Gwen still at work, John, Aya, and Leo make the hour-long walk from the Pewter City Museum to the Pokemon Center. Once they arrive John goes over to PC and switches out Brisby for the Riolu that he just caught that day. He comes to learn that the Riolu is a female and has a Brave nature. This would explain why she tried to challenge a bigger Pokemon than her. John decides to name the canine-like Pokemon, Akira.
After speaking with Nurse Joy, the two learn they have an hour and a half wait to get both Akira and Rascal fully healed due to their injuries, after handing over the two Pokemon. The two wait over in the lounge area by the TV as John calls out Sparks and lets her hang out with them. As Sparks wanders up to Aya to sniff at her cane, Leo barks at Aya to let her know that the Pichu is there. Aya smiles and reaches down to the Pichu and lets the Tiny Mouse Pokemon sniff her hand in which she does so. After getting her scent, Sparks lets out a happy "Pi!" before nuzzling Aya's hand as the blind girl pets her.
"Your Pichu is very cute," said Aya.
"Yeah she is, and she likes you too," John says as he watches his friend interact with the Pichu.
"Do you think I would get a Pichu of my own, or maybe even a Pikachu? I really want a Pikachu," said Aya as she scratches Spark's behind her large ears, the Pichu squeaks out in enjoyment.
"You know I think you would. One of these days you will get your own Pikachu, maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow but you'll get one. I count on it," John says before Sparks pulls away from Aya and jumps up into John's lap. Asking for pets from her trainer as well which John Happily does so.
"Thank you, John, that means a lot," said Aya as she smiles at her friend.
"So are there other Pokemon that you wish to own?" asked John.
"Oh, I would so love to get an Eevee. They are so cute! Also a Ponyta, I really like Ponytas, and a Dratini too! I bet they give the best hugs!" said Aya, as soon as she stopped talking for a second she suddenly blushes. "S-sorry, I guess I kinda got a little carried away with talking about Pokemon that I really like."
"It's okay, besides those sound like some awesome Pokemon too. I would love to catch myself a Dratini too, or at least one Dragon-Type Pokemon. They are awesome," John says as his eyes sparkle with admiration and hope.
"Oh, why do you think they are awesome?" Aya asks.
"Because they are some of the most powerful Pokemon ever and they look cool. Heck I think some are even huggable like Dratini," said John.
"Well I'm sure you'll get your Dragon-Type Pokemon," says Aya. After some time pass they pick up their Pokemon from Nurse Joy. For their remaining time, they go to the practice room in the back so John can get to know Akira a little better as he calls out the Riolu for her Pokeball and recalls the Pichu back into hers. Akira shakes her head from being inside a Pokeball for the first time in her young life before she starts to look around. This looks far different than the mountain ranges that she is used to.
"Hi there, Akira," John says as he kneels down to the Riolu. Akira looks up at John, then she looks around the area before she looks up at John again with her head tilted as she gives out a confused "Aro?"
"That's your name. Akira." John says as he points to her. "You are such a cute little-" John begins to say before he suddenly gets punched in the gut by Akira. John doubles over in pain as Akira bounces back and forth with her fore paws up in a boxing stance as she smiles with her tail wagging as Leo starts laughing.
"Aw, I think she wants to play," Aya says as she hears Leo laughing and Akira's excited playful barks.
"You. . . don't. . . say. . . so," John grunts out. He takes a couple of minutes to recover and by the time he gets back up, Akira is already running laps all over the area. Weaving between other Pokemon and the legs of their trainers.
"Hey wait up!" John calls out as he chases off after the Riolu. However, it's like chasing after a toddler hype up on a case of pixie sticks as the Riolu is faster than him and just seems to change direction at random or when she sees another trainer or another Pokemon.
"Akira, come on we need some training," John tries calling out. Hearing the word train, Akira stops and turns towards her trainer who has been panting after
chasing her for an hour.
"Good, . . I finally got... your attention," John pants. John then calls out Blaze and Holly to meet their new teammate who Holly greets with a nuzzle. To kill time John does some training with the three Pokemon to give them a little experience but during said hour, Akira keeps trying to fight with the Charmander and the Nidoran so John tasks the Pokemon to race each other around the practice battlefield. Akira won as Aya expected, Blaze looked like he was going to come in second but halfway through the race Holly who was struggling at first managed to get a boost of energy and overtake the Charmander and taking 2nd place for herself. With nothing else to do, John and Aya return to Aya's home before Gwen returns from work for the evening. With Pokemon fed, Aya makes a nice simple meal of cooked hot dogs with boxed mac and cheese. The two young trainers share their day at the dig site with Aya's mother and even show her the Pokemon Fossils they earned. Gwen asks to look over John's mystery Fossil to see that it's a Dome Fossil much like Aya's.
"You know, if you kids manage to get there someday, I hear there's a research lab on Cinnabar Island where they have a fossil revival machine," said Gwen.
"A fossil revival machine?" John asks.
"It's a machine that takes the DNA of a Pokemon from its fossil and restores it as a new living Pokemon," said Aya as she remembers reading about it in one of her brail books.
"Oh wow, that sounds cool!" John says as he looks excited. They finish dinner and after cleaning up they turn in for the night. The next morning Gwen has the day off and decides to spend the day at the Pokemon Center with John and Aya. She has done this with just Aya before to show her daughter her support for being a Pokemon Trainer. John spends some time at the PC to switch out Blaze for Monarch to give the Bug-Type a chance to catch up with the other Pokemon.
After an hour of training to give Rascal, Holly, Monarch, and Sparks for experience, focus, and brutal training methods, John and Aya let the Pokemon play fight. To everyone's surprise, Monarch is the one to come on top. As John and Aya return their Pokemon back into their balls, Gwen's cell phone goes off. As she answers, the phone call doesn't sound very pleasant before she ends the call.
"I'm sorry but I gotta go kids. There's a problem at the Museum," Gwen says as she puts her phone away.
"Oh no, is everything ok?" asked Aya.
"No, someone broke into the Museum," said Gwen.
"Let me go with you. I wanna make sure everyone is okay," said Aya with worry.
"No, it's too dangerous for you to come with me. Stay here with your friend and challenge some trainers or something," Gwen says as she is about to leave but Aya reaches out and grabs her Mom's arm.
"Please Mom, the Museum is sponsoring me. I don't want to let them down. What if someone is hurt? What if they hate me for not checking on them and cancel their sponsorship?" Aya says as she begs her mother.
"No Aya, she's right. You can't go with her by yourself. I'll go too," John says as he steps up.
"Police are already there, I don't want you kids to get in the way," Gwen says as she tries to talk the two trainers down from coming with her.
"Please, we are not just kids. We are Pokemon Trainers. We might be beginners but we are capable of handling ourselves. Trust us, please," said John as he looked into Gwen's eyes with determination. Gwen stares back into John's eyes as she hears the sense of command in his tone, there's no hint of waiving or backing down as Gwen thinks that John is either brave or stupid.
"Okay, the both of you can come but please try not to get in the way of the police investigation or bother the police," Gwen said sternly. A half-hour later they arrive at the Pewter City Museum, Police are mulling about taking pictures and looking confused. As they enter the building one of the police Officers steps in front of the group asking for identification. Gwen shows him her Muesum employee badge and claims John and Aya are with her.
"Very well, but keep them close with you," The Officer says as he steps aside and waves them in. Inside there are more Police patrolling the Museum namely the fossil exhibit. As Gwen takes the two to the back area they see that there's a hole in the western wall as well as many more holes that tore through the Museum leading to where they keep and study Pokemon Fossils. It is there that they find the Museum Curator, an old man with white hair, and a beard to match, wearing a white dress suit and matching dress pants while leaning on a fancy cane with an Old Amber imbedded in the cane's head, talking to a woman in a Police uniform with short light blue hair.
"Are you sure?" the Curator asks to the Police Woman.
"Yes sir, the camera's picked up nothing. They all lost imagining as if the building was hit by an EMP wave. Other than the hole my men so far have not found any trace of the criminal or criminals," said the Police Woman.
"Mr. Stalag!" Aya calls out as she has Leo guide her to him before she hugs him.
"Oh my, Aya what in Acreus heavens are you doing here in a time like this?" The Curator, Mr Stalag asks as he returns the hug.
"I heard about the break-in from Mom, I wanted to come by and check on everyone," Aya says with a worried look.
"Thank you, my dear, luckily no one was here when it happened," said Mr. Stalag as he pats Aya's head.
"Excuse me but when did they break into the Museum?" John asks as he steps forward.
"Why early morning, and who are you m'boy? Are you perhaps Aya's boyfriend?" asks Mr. Stalag. Both John's and Aya's face turn red as Aya steps back and hides her face behind her hands.
"Oh my god, he's not my boyfriend! He's just a friend!" Aya cries out feeling completely embarrassed.
"Sir, I don't think it's a good idea to share too much information about the break-in," said the Police Woman as she turns to look at John and Aya.
"Now now, Gwen is one of my most entrusted researchers here. I trust her and her daughter and if they brought this boy along then he can be trusted as well. As you said, you and your men have found nothing regarding finding that missing fossil so we need all the help that we can get," said Mr. Stalag.
"I understand sir but this is a Police matter now." said the Police Woman.
"Please miss I wanna he-" John begins to say before he is cut off by the Police Woman.
"That's Captain! Captian Jenny!" she says with a commanding voice, correcting John.
"Oh, um, Captian Jenny, I wanna help. You see I'm a Pokemon Trainer and I aim to be the greatest heroic adventurer. Please let me help find any clue that can at least lead to finding the missing fossil," says John. Jenny looks at John dead in the eye as he says this with a stern face.
"You got spunk kid but I'm still not going to have you help out in this case. I don't know you, I don't know your skills nor do I know your background. How do I know that you didn't get lost in the Viridian Forrest or are related to a crime family? How about you kids go play detective somewhere else?" said Captian Jenny.
"Okay, now you too. Maybe it's best that you go off to the Pokemon Center and do some training now," said Gwen.
"Why yes! There's no need to waste the day away sitting around here. Go be youthful trainers, enjoy the day!" Mr. Stalag said as he pats John and Aya on the shoulders and starts to lead them out. As they round the corner he leans down to the two and whispers to the pair of trainers. "Listen I paid a lot for that fossil dig and they brought back the finest specimen of a Helix Fossil last night. I want that fossil back by any means. If you two can find it, with or without Captain Jenny's permission, I'll give both of you a great reward," As they walk they pass by one of the holes in the walls but John is more focused on Mr. Stalag's words than the hole.
"But wouldn't we get in trouble?" asked Aya.
"I'll make sure that you won't. Now don't let me down," Mr Stalag said before he escorted them out of the building. With that, John, Aya, and Leo begin to walk away from the Museum.
"Now what? I feel really bad for Mr. Stalag," said Aya.
"I think we should help, besides don't you find it weird that they made so much destruction just to steal one fossil? They could have gotten away with more than that," said John.
"You're right but where do we begin to look? We can't go back and start checking out the Museum now," said Aya. John looks in thought but as they walk, something catches the corner of his eye.
"Huh? There's something out there in that field?" John points out.
"Where? Guide me and Leo there," Aya says as she holds onto Leo's arm. John races off into the field with Aya and Leo behind him until they stop at a patch of exposed dirt, John has found a footprint of sorts. Aya kneels down to feel it but her hand quickly pulls away as she feels the texture of the ground.
"Ew it feels like mud," said Aya.
"If it's wet mud then it must still be fresh," said John as he kneels down to look at the footprint closely. As he studies it, he sees that it looks almost like a bare human footprint but what sort of person would be walking around in wet grass and mud barefoot, then it hits him. It's a Machoke footprint and it's heading away from the Museum. John relays this info to Aya.
"You don't think that a Machoke stole the fossil do you?" Aya asks.
"I don't know, but it's the only lead that we have," said John.
"Well how do we know it's still going in the same direction?" asked Aya. With that, both John and Leo see another Machoke footprint nearby. They quickly start to follow footprint after footprint as it leads them half across the northern outskirts of Pewter City off in the distance they see a Machoke that is slowly lumbering its way towards the west.
"There it is! Hey, stop!" John calls out as he runs ahead,
however the Machoke pays no mind to John. "Something is not right with that Machoke," John says as he studies the Machoke from afar.
"Maybe he can't hear?" suggests Aya.
"I don't think that's the case, it's not evening moving right," said John before he ran off further ahead. At that moment John can see from behind that the Machoke has his arms folded in front of him as if it's carrying something.
"Hey, I think it has the fossil! It looks like it's carrying something!" John calls back to Aya.
"If it does we gotta get it back," said Aya as she tries to catch up to John. John pulls out Akira's Pokeball and throws it out 6 meters out towards the Machoke where the Riolu matirlizes as he chases after the Machoke.
"Akira try to get that Machoke's attention on us!" John orders out. Akira spots the Machoke and sees it as a new challenge to test her skills as it slowly lumbers away, she quickly runs up to the Machoke's left side and punches the Machoke's leg, and to John's and Akira's shock, her punch does nothing. However, Akira can see the Machoke holding the Helix fossil.
"How is that possible? Akira if he has the Fossil take it away from him!" John calls out. The Machoke however still ignores Akira as he lumbers in the direction that he is going. Akira not having any of this jumps up onto the Machoke and starts to wrestle the Helix Fossil out of its grip. The Machoke however grabs Akira by the scruff of her neck and drops her back on the ground as she flares her arms about trying to punch the Machoke. As John races forward with Aya and Leo behind him John is starting to get the sense that something is very very off about this Machoke but he can't tell what.
As the Machoke steps on a patch of flowers, Akira once again tries to jump onto the Machoke but it catches Akira and throws her back on the ground. Akira growls out as she is starting to get mad. John pulls out another Pokeball and throws it over the Machoke and Holly appears right in front of the Machoke.
"Stop that Machoke Holly! Try to get that fossil from it!" John calls out as he gets up to the Machoke from behind on its right side. Holly jumps towards the Machoke with her paws out and uses Scratch attack on what looks like it could be a critical hit but her attack did no damage. As Aya tries to catch up to John, Leo starts to guide her in the proper direction. As the Machoke tries to step around Holly Akira once again punches the Machoke in the leg only for her attack to deal no damage. Akira quickly races around Holly and tries to slip her paws around the fossil that the Machoke is holding but the Machoke quickly moves the fossi out of the Riolu's reach. John comes up from behind the Machoke and tries to grab him but the Machoke quickly slips out of John's reach. However, with the Machoke distracted by John and Akira, Holly headbutts the Helix Fossil out of the Machoke's hands.
"Good job Holly!" John calls out. Hearing of Holly's succus Aya walks over towards the Nidoran and kneels down to her.
"Holy, give me the Fossil please," Aya said as Leo quickly runs around Aya, putting himself between the Machoke and his trainer. The Mahone turns towards Holly as she has its prize. It reaches out to Holly for a Seismic Toss but Holly quickly jumps out of the Machoke's grasp. Akira glares at the Machoke as her red eyes glow from the use of Foresight, she then jumps up and punches the Machoke in the side of his head, this time dealing damage to it. Seeing this John finally gets a good grasp on what the Machoke is. A male level 20 Pokemon with a mild Nature with both Steadfast and Discipline abilities but what shocks John the most is that this Machoke is both a Fighting and Ghost-Type Pokemon. It's at this point John notices the multiple scars and stitches on the Machoke.
"Guys, this Machoke is not normal! I think he is some sort of Zombie. We gotta leave now and get the fossil back," John calls out in a panic as Holly gives Aya the fossil before she disengages from the Machoke.
"We don't need to beat him any way we just need to return the fossil," Aya says as she starts to walk back in the direction that they came from. As soon as she starts to walk away, a red field of energy surrounds the Machoke as he is suddenly healed from Akira's attack, seeing this Leo quickly catches up to Aya and easily picks her up bridle style. The Machoke now seeing that Aya has the fossil races over to Leo as John and Akira take the opportunity to try to punch the Machoke but both of their attacks do no damage. As he approaches from behind he raises a hand up in the air and brings it down on Leo's shoulder with a Karate Chop. Leo grunts in pain but manages to hold on to Aya and not drop her.
"Oh no, Leo!" Aya cries out as she hears the Lucario's grunts of pain but the Lucario gives out a reassuring bark as he smiles at her. Akira quickly catches up to the Machoke and tries to grapple his leg but the Machoke kicks her off. Seeing that the Riolu won't stop until the Machoke has fainted, John recalls Akira back into her ball before he runs up from behind the Machoke and tries to grab on to him but the Machoke pushes him back.
"Go Leo get out of here! Double time!" John calls out as Holly runs up from behind her Trainer.
"You heard him Leo, go!" Aya orders out. As Leo takes another step without disengaging the Machoke suddenly lashes out with a punch to Leo's back, striking him but not dealing all that much damage to the Fighting and Steel-Type Pokemon. Ignoring the pain, Leo manages to carry Aya towards the east in about 12 meters in 11 seconds. John recalls Holly back into her ball and starts to race after Aya avoiding the Machoke, At this point the Machoke stops to see that Aya and Leo are racing off faster than he can move and he slowly turns towards John's direction. As he stomps onto a patch of wildflowers to try to block off John, all of a sudden three police officers rush in from a nearby street corner.
"Hold it right there Machoke! Hey, kid get out of here right now!" the Policeman closes to John orders out.
"You don't have to tell me twice," John says as he sprints around the Machoke to avoid his grasp. The Police Officers and their Growlithes rush towards the Machoke as one of them tries to subdue the Machoke with his night stick but the Machoke ducks under the man's swing. At this point, Leo is far gone and John runs as fast as he can to get away from the Machoke as the Police descend upon him.
By the time John finally catches up to Leo who has slowed down, John is panting heavily as his legs burn.
"W-wow, th-that was a close one," said John as he tries to catch his breath.
"Who was that back there?" Aya asked as she recalls hearing the voices.
"Cops, they came just in time too. That Machoke was about to go after me," said John.
"Well I hope they stop that mean Machoke but why do you think it was a Zombie?" Aya asks. John then relies to her what he saw on the Machoke's body and its strange secondary typing.
"Oh my, that poor thing must have been experimented on," Aya gasps at the information given to her.
"Either way, there's no way we can stop that thing right now, but for now, we better get this back to the Museum," John said as he pats the fossil in Aya's arms. A few minutes later they return to the museum where Mr Stalag and Captian Jenny are standing outside talking. As they get closer Mr. Stalag notices the Helix Fossil in Aya's arms and quickly walks over to them.
"The fossil! You got it back!" Mr Stalah shouts out happily.
"Yeah and it wasn't easy," said John.
"Hold up! How did you kids get the Fossil back?" Captian Jenny asks a bit sternly. John and Aya then begin to rely to the two of them on how they found the Machoke and how difficult it was to get the fossil back. With this Captain Jenny looked mad.
"Are you kidding me? I don't care if you kids are Pokemon Trainers! You could have gotten yourselves killed!" Jenny yells at them.
"Now now Captian, childern will be childern. After all, I did encourage them to go look for my missing fossil," said Mr Stalag.
"You did what?! Mr. Stalag, you should know better!" yelled Jenny before she takes in a deep breath. "You know what, I'm going to let it slide this time. Right now I gotta put up a call on a rouge hostal Pokemon," At that moment two Police officers come up to Captain Jenny both of them look rough up. Right away John remembers them as the ones that gang up on the Machoke.
"Captian Jenny ma'am! We encounter the Machoke as well," They said as they saluted her.
"Wait where's is Jones?" asked Captain Jenny, John also noticed that the third Police officer isn't with them.
"Injured ma'am. That thing did quite a number on us. He is on his way to the ER. That. . . thing broke his arm," said the second police officer.
"God damn, and where is the Machoke now?" Jenny asks.
"Gone, we believe it's heading towards Mount Moon," replied the first Police Officer.
"Son of a bitch! . . . . I want a full report on my desk by tomorrow morning. Your tour is finished for the day. Go home and get patched up," ordered Captain Jenny.
"Yes ma'am!" said both Officers before they left.
"I gotta go myself to file some paperwork over this incident but I'll have my men here on watch just in case that thing comes back," Captain Jenny says as she turns back to Mr. Stalag.
"I understand and thank you for all that you have done," said Mr. Stalag. As soon as the Police Captain walks off Mr. Stalag turns towards the two young trainers. "And as for you, I believe a reward is in order."
Mr. Stalag takes John and Aya back into his office in the museum where he gives both of them 5,000 Poke each.
"No way?!" John calls out.
"Really? But Mr. Stalag this seems way too much," asked Aya in disbelief.
"It's fine young lady. I needed a fine Helix Fossil for study and display in the museum and you two did an excellent job, and
on top of that Aya, I am increasing your sponsorship to 400 per week. I see this as spared no expense to get such a lovely fossil back into my museum," said Mr. Stalag.
"Th-thank you, Mr. Stalag," Aya says as she beems.
"Thank you, sir!" John says with a smile. After a few goodbyes, John and Aya head off to the Pokemon Center to get Leo checked out. Luckily he has no major injuries and just needs to heal up from the small beating that he took from the Machoke. That evening, Aya decides to make dinner as Leo's favorite, Ramen. Gwen was happy that Aya is putting her cooking skills to some use at home as she has been stressed out from being called into the museum on her day off. After they finish cleaning up dinner Leo's dreadlocks suddenly floats up as he senses something and lets out an alarmed bark at Aya.
"What is it, Leo? Is someone in the house? Show me," Aya asks as she holds on to Leo's arm in which the Lucario leads Aya up to her room with John following them. As soon as they enter Aya's room did Leo and John come across the sight of a Mew stuffing a disc into John's sleeping bag.
"What are you doing to my bag?!" John asks, just as John says this he is blown away that a Mythical Pokemon is right in front of him. Messing with his stuff. Not only that but he can tell that the Mew is female and at the extremely high level of 100 with Naive nature with the Synchronize, Magic Guard, and Magic Bounce abilities. The Mew turns to look at the group with Aya starting to panic.
"Wait whose here? How did they get into my family's home?! Are they going to hurt us?!" Aya says in a panic. The Mew floats over to the group with a giggle. What happens next completely floors John.
"No no silly, Kate is here to give John-Face another gift because Kate is John's biggest fan!" Kate squeals happily. John just stands their mouth agape as Aya has a confused look on her face.
"John I didn't know you had a fan already," said Aya. John has no reply as he is still in shock.
"Oh oh, are we playing the staring game now? Kate is best at the staring game!" said Kate as she floats up to John and starts staring into his eyes without blinking. An awkward silence fills the room for another minute before John can bring himself to talk.
"It's a. . . . talking Mew," John mutters. At that, Aya's eyes widen.
"A Mew?! A Mythical Pokemon is in my bedroom!?" Aya shouts out loud.
"Oh, are we playing the yelling game now?! YAAAAAAAAAAAY KATE REALLY LOVES THIS GAME!" Kate yells out loud.
"Wait what? Yelling game? Are you insane?" asks John.
"I don't know. . . . " applies the Mew.
"Wait a second, you were the one that left me that X-Accuracy," said John
"Yay, you like it! Did you like the round thinging too?" asked Kate
"Wait, you mean the Lure Ball? That was you too?" asked John
"Yep yep, because Kate is your biggest fan since the battle of the berry!" Kate yells out as she throws her forepaws up in the air in excitement.
"So that was you yelling out back then," said John.
"What was the battle of the berry?" Ask Aya.
"Oh oh, Blaze found a berry, and a Weedle was like no my berry! And then a Caterpie was like I is hungry too! And then it was like wam! Bam! Smack! Ah meh leg! And pew pew! And big Explosions! And Blaze won the berry and John caught a Caterpie and named him Mony," said Kate as she sounded super excited.
"His name is Monarch, but what are you doing with my sleeping bag?" John asks.
"Oh, Kate got you another gift because Kate is such a big fan. See it's all shiny!" Kate says as she gives John a Disc. John takes it and looks at the disc very closely.
"Wait a second, this is a TM for Rock Smash, how did you get this?" John asks, only for the Mew to pat him on the head.
"We sure did John! We sure did!" said Kate as Aya slowly reaches for a Pokeball but just as her hand touches one. Kate suddenly disappears in a flash of light as she teleports away.
"Wait a second, where did she disappear too?" John asks.
"She got away? Aw, I was hoping to catch her?" Aya said with a pout.
"I think you were going to have a hard time catching her. She's already a level 100 Pokemon. There's no way any of us will be able to catch her, but I have a feeling that this won't be the last time we see her." says John.
As the two trainers settle in for the night many things rush through John's mind. Is he ready to take on Brock at the Pewter City Gym? Now that he has uncovered what he believes was the rumored Machoke and learned of how big of a threat it is, is there a way to defeat it so Trainers can have safe passage through Mount Moon? Is the Mew, Kate crazy or is it just a Mew thing? These thoughts and many more run through his head before he falls asleep, perhaps answers to these thoughts will come to him when the journey continues.

Don't have much of a Play list this time. there wasn't that many scenes in this chapter that stood out to me that needed a music track, at least to me. Also I didn't go into much detail of the lost baby Psyduck quest as I felt that would be too fillery. I did had a bit of hard time on how to transition to the museum break in and I hope hta I choose the best way top do so in this scene. I do hope that everyone who is reading The Kanto Khronicles caught any of the refences and easter eggs that I have written out. If it hasn;t been notice before this chapter, I'm not using the rules on abillities as the main streamline games or even the anime has when it comes to Pokemon moves and abillities.
Once again I would like to thank Blindwolf87 for his continued support and help with suggestions and 2nd opoins for choices and dialoge of Aya or other side characters as I wanna try to have such charactors to sound natural dispite that this world has basicly RPG/anime/Sci-fi Fantasy laws and physics. I would also like to thank Lyrcis for his past help even if I haven't appoached him for suggestions or questions for this chapter but I might in future chapters. I might take a break from writing Champion's Journey to enjoy the Indago Disc DLC and do some other personal projects but that doesn't mean I'm not having fun writing this series where things will happen on chance.
Now for readers on please do take notice that email notifactions are not working right now and have been broken for some time now. As so the view counter as well, I have no way to tell how many times thise story has been viewed since before chapter 3 was uploaded no do I know when the view counter stopped working between uploading chapters 2 and 3. So with this in mind please do leave a comment or even a review and thank you to the 4 who have Fave this story.
