It was Monday, September 4th, 1995, and Luna Lovegood had awoken feeling extremely sad.

It was the five year anniversary of her mom's death at hands of a tragic accident involving experimental magic.

Luna always felt a heavy dose of terrible sadness on the anniversary of her mom's passing, but today it hit differently.

The five year milestone made Luna reflect on how much she had missed out on with her mom being gone.

One image that stuck in Luna's mind in a very gut wrenching way was the realization of how her mom had never been able to see her off at King's Cross on her first day at Hogwarts.

For most magical children, having their moms and dads see them off at King's Cross on their first day at Hogwarts was a beautiful rite of passage and parent-child moment.

Luna was only able to experience half of that.

The hug her father had given her on that day felt so warm, yet Luna left for Hogwarts feeling half empty.

That had been the day that "There is no worse tragedy than a child losing a parent" had hit Luna the hardest and the two year anniversary of her mom's death coming just three days after that did not make things any easier on Luna.

Today was the most intensely sad Luna had felt since that week.

But Luna was determined to remember her mom in the best way she knew how and that was paying tribute to her by keeping the things she had loved most near and dear to her.

Pandora Lovegood's two favorite colors were pink and purple.

So, Luna dressed on a two toned tee shirt with a pink left and purple right, a two toned pair of shorts with a pink left and a purple right, and a pair of mismatching slide on sandals with a pink sandal on her left foot and a purple sandal on her right foot.

And of course, she wore the Puffapod necklace she had made for herself that featured a pink Puffapod on the left and a purple Puffapod on the right.

Since Pandora was a flower junkie and Puffapods were her favorite flowers, this was the most fitting tribute possible.

And her Puffapod themed tribute didn't end there.

Luna opened her trunk and retrieved a wreath of five pink Puffapods she had made the night before.

She then walked out of Ravenclaw tower to find her father waiting for her.

"Good morning, daddy," said Luna solemnly.

"Good morning, Luna, my love," replied Xenophilius, "Are you ready to visit your mom's grave?"

"Yes," said Luna quietly, "We do this every year and although it's really hard in the moment, I find it always really helps afterwards."

So, Xenophilius grabbed Luna's right arm and took her by Side Along Apparition to the graveyard where Pandora was buried in the village of Ottery St. Catchpole.

Xenophilius and Luna looked at each other and Xenophilius saw Luna carrying her wreath of five pink Puffapods and Luna saw Xenophilius carrying his wreath of five purple Puffapods.

Pandora's grave was located at the front of the graveyard, so they didn't have to walk far to find it.

When they did, they saw a casket that was painted pink on the left hand side and purple on the right hand side.

Her name and dates of birth and death had been engraved on the top of the casket.

Pandora Lovegood:

Born June 26th, 1958.

Died September 4th, 1990.

There was also a quote beneath the dates:

Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure.

Xenophilius and Luna both now walked close enough to Pandora's grave to place their wreaths upon it. Luna placed her wreath of five pink Puffapods on the left hand side of her mom's grave while Xenophilius simultaneously placed his wreath of five purple Puffapods on the right hand side of his wife's grave.

Xenophilius and Luna both looked directly at the wreaths of Puffapods they had just laid upon Pandora's grave.

Luna then spoke in a soft voice.

"Mom," said Luna emotionally, "I'm sorry that we had such a short time together. I'm sorry you won't get to see me grow up. But I promise to keep your spirit with me every day. I promise to pay tribute to you by embracing the things that you loved most. And most importantly, I promise to live a life that you can be proud of.

Luna backed off and collapsed to the ground sobbing. She was too overcome with emotion to do anything other than expel it.

After five minutes and five nanoseconds, Luna's tears ceased, and she stood again.

"Luna, my love, are feeling any better?" asked Xenophilius seriously.

"Yes, daddy," piped up Luna, "It's the same story every year. I always feel better after expelling that emotion."

"I know that these trips here are very therapeutic for you despite how hard they are for you and that's why I bring you back here every year."

"I really appreciate that," replied Luna sincerely, "I need these visits."

"I need them too even though I'm not that outwardly emotional about it," nodded Xenophilius.

"You process your feelings differently than I process mine," acknowledged Luna respectfully, "We all grieve differently."

For the next five minutes and the next five nanoseconds, father and daughter stood silently side by side looking upon the wreaths of five Puffapods they had laid upon Pandora's grave until Xenophilius finally said, "Luna, my love, it's time to go back."

Xenophilius then took Luna back to Hogwarts by Side Along Apparition, their yearly visit to Pandora's grave now complete.
