They put Anna's car in the underground parking garage of Conny's building. Since Conny didn't own a car, Anna could take her spot. Conny carried some bags with clean clothes and toiletries for Anna. Anna took her guitar and what seemed a violin case. Conny drew a bath for Anna and quickly put on some fresh sheets on the bed in the guest bedroom. She also made some snacks for Anna and put a carafe of water beside her bed. Conny then left Anna to get herself settled and take a nap.
Normally, Conny would be at work at the ministry of magic. She worked there a a consultant for squibs, on of the only ones in Europe. She helped squibs and their loved ones to cope with their absence of magical abilities and introduced them to the muggle world if they came from a pure blood household. She helped squibs to navigate in the wizarding world, because it was often difficult for them to go shopping in Diagon Alley or visit friends or family that lived remote. Obviously the squibs could ask their friends and family to help them, but a lot of people who were squibs were really self conscious. On top of that, a lot of people just liked to pretend that their non magical relative had magic in them or didn't even realise how difficult certain things were if you had no magic. She created the post herself a over 10 years ago, after a couple of years of extensive lobbying and a few good words from Albus Dumbledore. Before that, she was actually quite successful in the muggle world. When she found out she was a squib a little before her 10th birthday, her parents were her biggest support. She came from a wealthy pure blood family, so there wasn't much knowledge about the muggle world. Her parents read everything there was about muggle life and since they lived in Hogsmeade they frequently asked the muggle studies teacher to dinner. When her parents send her to a boarding school, she was as prepared as she could be. She excelled at boarding school and even met a few people she was still friends with to this day. After boarding school, she got into a prestigious university where she did a double major in literature and finance. After she graduated, she became a successful luxury real estate agent. She was already familiar with the right clientele from her time at university and boarding school. In those years she didn't go often to the wizarding world; she always felt others thought she was a failure and pitied her. The contrast with her successful life in the muggle world couldn't be bigger. Her family never pitied her though and celebrated her successes. Even in those years she loved to frequently visit them. Even though she was happy with her life back then, when she became 40, the feeling that she wanted to create a place for herself in both worlds grew. She just couldn't hide anymore while He-who-shall-not-be-named hurt so many people around her. Before she started working at the ministry she started working pro bono and underground. She helped squibs and their families to protect themselves against the death eaters. After the war was over, she got her job at the ministry. Even though it was safe for squibs now, she figured that if she and other squibs didn't want to be pitied anymore, she should try and educate the wizarding world. And so she did. Only not this week, her appointment with the Huizingas was the last one before her holiday started. She took two weeks of to start writing a book for squibs and their loved ones; a thing she wanted to do for ages. But with Anna here, she had a feeling that she would want to postpone writing for just a little longer.
After just sitting by herself a little bit, Conny decided to do some grocery shopping. Two of her three close friends from boarding school recently became grandmothers. From them and their daughters she learned of a few foods that could help with morning sickness. She herself never got married. After a few dates while she was in uni she felt like it just wasn't for her. However, since her friends became grandmothers, she wished she had a daughter and grandchild too. She never had that feeling before; she was always busy with work and had a rich social life. She adored her nieces and nephews but never wished they were her children. She thought that perhaps the feeling appeared because her work life had become a lot less dynamic in the recent years. She already established a lot and put some systems in place that made her workflow easier. Now she wanted to focus on her own 'baby', her book: 'A guide for squibs, everything you need to know'. Although she made a proper start about a year ago, she suffered from a major writing block since. Absent minded, she picked out some groceries for the next days including some dry crackers, ice lolly's and ginger. Hopefully those would soothe Anna as well.
In the next few days Conny cooked for Anna, washed some of her clothes and made sure she had clean sheets to take her frequent naps in. Her eyes became less puffy and she seemed to become more aware of her surroundings. After four days, Conny woke up to the smell of scrambled eggs. Anna was in the kitchen making breakfast. Conny was happy that Anna seemed to be more up and about. Anna smiled at Conny while she handed her a plate. Then she became serious: 'Conny, I'm so sorry I have taken up so much of your time. I'm so grateful you took me in for the past few days. I'm also sorry that I've been so closed off. There is just a lot going on in my life right now and I owe you an explanation.' 'Anna, you don't owe me anything', said Conny. 'I'm happy to take care of you and of course I understand that you need some time for yourself, take as much time as you want. You can talk to me about anything, but don't feel pressured or obligated to do so.' Anna smiled. 'Thank you so much Conny, I feel like we're already becoming close friends. That's why I want to tell you my story.'
