Chapter 16
"Triton Offers His Support"
If there is one thing that you should know about my father, King Triton, is that he is not a lover of humans, despite the fact I ended up marrying one. The last thing he probably wanted was to be involved in a human conflict, but that's just how humans live, unfortunately. Still, with our war against Napoleon looming, he had to fight for me, for Eric and especially for Melody, his only grandchild.
"Your majesty, this is the only option that they have," Sebastian explained as Triton listened reluctantly. "Ariel and Eric are joining forces with another human kingdom, so it's not like they are fighting alone."
"And this Napoleon," Triton remarked in a worried tone. "How big of a threat is he? Is he like Ursula or her sister, Morgana?"
"I do not know, your majesty. But Ariel wants you to support her and Eric."
Sighing deeply, my father had no choice but to comply with the demands that sat in front of him. This was not just our kingdom's fight, but all of Europe's fight as well.
"Sebastian, I thought that when Ariel married Eric, my attitude towards humans would change, but it appears that they haven't. Why can't there be more humans like Eric who are against war?"
Of course, Sebastian couldn't provide an answer to my father's concerned remarks.
"I will fight on the condition that no harm befalls upon my daughter and her family. What of the other human kingdom?"
"The kingdom of Arendelle, sire. One of their queens has magical ice powers."
Suddenly, my father began to get a strange feeling inside of him on account that Elsa's powers would prove to be a valued weapon against the enemy.
"Her powers are so powerful, your majesty," Sebastian further explained. "That you would freeze if you would touch her hands."
This then made my father think back to when we defeated Morgana by encasing her in a block of ice for all eternity using his trident. The combination of my father's trident and Elsa's ice powers would prove to be a major advantage in the battle sense.
"Yet, I don't want to be frozen crab legs, your majesty," Sebastian remarked, looking down at his crab legs and thinking of Chef Louis. "Especially for that crazy fish killer of theirs."
Rising from his throne, my father grasped his trident while looking closely at it.
"Sebastian, pray that our kingdom finds peace as quickly as possible," he said, firmly as the trident glowed. "For the sake of Ariel and her family, I hope this human conflict does not last long."
"Shall I go back and inform them of your decision?"
But my father didn't answer him and instead swam up to the surface with Sebastian not far behind.
Rising to the surface, they glanced towards our kingdom and made their way over.
…
Back in the castle, all of us anxiously awaited news from Sebastian in our study. The last thing any of us wanted was to have my father deny our pleas for help.
"Do you think grandfather will say no?" asked Melody, whom I can't help but feel somewhat scared for. After all, she was not just a princess. She was our daughter and I could never live with myself if anything were to happen to her.
"I don't know, Melody," I sighed. "You know how he feels about human conflicts."
"Queen Ariel, if you say that your father has powers to freeze, then we need that power along with my own ice powers," Elsa said, removing the teal glove from her left hand. "My powers alone might not be enough."
Elsa then placed her hand in the air and released some of her ice magic.
"They seem powerful enough to me," said Eric. "Let's just hope my naval skills are enough."
"I'm sure they are, Eric," I replied, trying to reassure him of his commitment to the seas. "Have you ever let us down yet?"
This made Eric feel somewhat better, but I could tell he was nervous. We all were nervous of the conflict that laid ahead.
Suddenly, we noticed something floating towards us and I knew right away it was my father. He had a look of determination on his face, but I couldn't tell if it was a look of refusal or a look of acceptance and willingness to help defend Europe from Napoleon's wrath.
"My father," I said, rising to my feet. "To the beach!"
…
Quickly donning our cloaks and capes, we all made our way to the beach and saw my father, the light of the trident illuminating him in the darkness.
"Father, have you…" I asked, but my father silenced me.
"I have, Ariel. The last thing I want is for any of you to be harmed or worse. Atlantica will provide support in your conflict."
"That's a mermaid?" Olaf wondered, amazed that he was meeting King Triton for the first time. "Wow!"
"King Triton," Anna said as she stepped forward. "I am Queen Anna of Arendelle and I am grateful for your decision to help us fight against the enemy, Napoleon. Please understand that your decision will give us a massive advantage."
Bowing his head, my father then raised the trident high in the air, causing a sharp blast of light to hit us all.
"I will provide more than just an advantage," he declared in a loud voice. "I will ensure that your enemies will be annihilated!"
…
Meanwhile, not far from the shores of our kingdom, a fleet of British ships saw the light from my father's trident and directed their attention towards it.
"Admiral Nelson, sir!" said a Royal Navy Officer, saluting the admiral. "You summoned me, sir?"
"We are near the kingdom of King Eric," he said. "Prepare to enter the port by morning. If we have any time working with us, we need to use that time. Hard to Starboard!"
"Hard to starboard!" called the officer and the ships turned towards our kingdom. This was the impending arrival of Admiral Horatio Nelson himself.
