Charlie was very fascinated by what she saw inside the house. So many strange looking items that she couldn't resist examining. She started with the furniture first. The sofa, the tables, the chairs, the shelves, she carefully ran her fingers over each and felt their material curiously. Next were the windows and doors which were then followed by the curtains and rugs. Most people would find it odd to see someone so impressed with a mere regular household but Charlie had never seen such an abode so naturally she was amazed by it.

"Hey Charlie you want something to eat?" Beth offered.

"What do you have?" She responded.

"We've got lots of things. Let's see."

Beth went to look in the refrigerator. Charlie followed her.

"We have lunch meat and bread so sandwiches are an option, we have leftover soup, raw vegetables to make a salad."

Charlie started to rummage around in the cupboard.

"What are you doing?" Beth asked.

"I smell fish up here." She dug around various cans until she located found a tin that contained anchovies.

"Well that's actually just a topping for pizza. I could order one and we'll put the anchovies on."

But Charlie just opened up the can and started eating the fish inside as if they were freshly baked biscuits.

"Or you could eat them that way." Beth said hiding her disgust.

After Charlie finished her meal, Beth decided to introduce her to some human devices such as the oven, the stove, the refrigerator, the toaster, the blender, the lamp, the radio, and of course the television. It took the poor girl three hours to convince Charlie that there weren't little people trapped inside a box and once Charlie understood the concept she was immediately hooked. She watched every broadcast like it was a live Broadway show, even the commercials were amazing to her. When it became late, Beth fixed up the futon to where Charlie could sleep on it.

"Are you comfortable?" Beth asked her. "Do you need an extra pillow or blanket?"

"No I'm fine thank you." Charlie said. "You live in such a beautiful place."

"Well we don't actually live here, we're just staying here for the Summer."

"Just like me. I guess this means I don't have to worry about proving my theory by myself, huh?"

"Well not exactly. I take classes so I won't be around on some days like tomorrow but don't worry, you won't be by yourself. My brother will be with you."

"Yeah about that. I know that you were hoping that we could get along but I don't think he really likes me. I heard him say that he wanted me to leave tomorrow."

"I know what he said but I have a feeling that he'll change his mind."

"What makes you say that?"

"I saw the way he looked at you and in all the years I've known him, I have never seen him look at any woman that way."

"I think it's just wishful thinking on your part. And I thought I made it clear that I don't want you setting us up together. Now promise me that while I'm here you won't try to push me into his arms. Promise?"

"I promise."

"Good."

However Beth had her fingers crossed behind her back. Then she said goodnight to Charlie and went to sleep in her own room. In the morning Alastor took her to her classes and during the ride they discussed what was to be done about Charlie.

"No Beth." Alastor told her.

"But Al." She whined.

"No! I told you yesterday that she was only staying for one night. Now one night has passed and today I'm taking her down to the police station so someone more qualified can help her."

"But Alastor she's my friend."

"I'm sorry Beth but my decision is final and I'm done arguing with you about it."

She protested a little further but by the time they reached the school, Beth had no choice but to accept defeat. Alastor dropped her off and drove back to the house with the intention of taking Charlie to the cops.

"Alright Miss Charlie." He said walking through the front door. "I'll fix you a little something to eat for breakfast, loan you some of my clothes, and we'll take a trip down to the-"

But the futon bed where she slept was empty.

"Um...Charlie?"

He called her name and checked all the rooms in the house but she was nowhere to be seen. Though he did find his drawers open and a shirt was missing along with a pair of pants. This obviously could only mean one thing and that was Charlie had left. She left the house and took some of his clothes with her. This at first brought relief to Alastor because he didn't have to go all through that trouble of helping her out with the police. But then he remembered that according to his sister, this was a young woman who had lived in a community that didn't believe in wearing clothes. She was probably the most naive human being on earth and he couldn't just let her wander about the world with no idea how it works.

"Oh curse my gentleman's code." He thought before grabbing his car keys and heading right back to his car.

"Hello, young man!" An older door to door saleswoman had called to him. "Excuse me, but do you live in this house?"

"Yes. I do."

"Oh good. Listen can you give this back to the young lady who lives there." She placed something in Alastor's hand. It was a pearl. "That nice girl gave it to me after I gave her some directions. Now even though I was hoping to sell her an encyclopedia, I couldn't possibly take this. Will you return it to her?"

"This young woman, did she have long blonde hair and was she wearing men's clothes?"

"Yes and no shoes. Poor dear, I hope she doesn't blister her feet."

"Where did she go? To where did you give her directions to?"

"Grand Harbor Plaza."

"Okay! Thank you!"

And he bolted for his car.

Charlie realized that if she was going to study the human world from a first hand experience then she was going to need to keep her body covered and she didn't want to keep taking Alastor's clothes, so she decided to get some for herself. Last night she saw a commercial which said;

"The best clothes and outfits can't be found anywhere else but the Grand Harbor Plaza."

With that in mind, she made plans to go to this Grand Harbor Plaza and get clothes from there. The only problem was that she didn't know how to get there or at least that was the case until that saleswoman came to the door. Once she got the directions, she was on her way. The walk there wasn't too long, just twenty minutes down the lane.

The mall was quite an interesting sight. So many department stores and window shops, so many unique clothes and items on display. She didn't know which shop she should go into first. They were just all so neat looking. She finally decided on a boutique called Venus's Wardrobe.

Beautiful dresses, sweaters, blouses, jeans, scarves, accessories, hand bags, shoes, were all around her. The colors, patterns, and styles of each product had Charlie greatly intrigued and she wanted to study every one of them. Her behavior appeared very odd to the other customers in the boutique. All of them except Niffty who was more concerned with Charlie's attire than her actions.

"Oh darling!" She said walking toward her. "Darling that outfit is to die from. Lucky thing you came in here because you are in desperate need of a wardrobe change."

"Excuse me?" Charlie said.

"Oh I'm sorry if that was rude. Where are my manners? My poor mother would be ashamed if she wasn't up in Heaven. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Niffty, it's very nice to meet you."

"My name is Charlotte but I would prefer if you called me Charlie."

"I am dreadfully sorry if I insulted your fashion choice, it's just that I'm one of those extremely feminine types and I can't stand to see a pretty girl like you not reaching her full potential."

"Full potential?"

"What I mean is you are lovely. Someone like me who takes the time to really look at someone can tell, but walking around barefoot and in men's clothes, keeps the more superficial crowd from seeing your radiance. Would you mind if I give you a little help?"

"That depends. Would this help you give me, help me fit in better."

"We'll I'd much rather help someone like you be a crowd stunner but if blending in is what you're going for, I can work with that. Now what's your preferred style?"

"Um..." Charlie said not understanding exactly what the woman was asking her. "Well I...I don't know."

"Ah you're a first time shopper. In that case I'll pull out all the stops and I'll reserve a dressing room for you. We have a lot of work to do." Niffty began checking all of outfits hanging on a rack. "I think we'll start with color. Now I've been told the blue looks very becoming on blondes but I think pink is probably your best color. Oh and I don't care what those new age feminists say, a bra is a must in this world."

Charlie was confused by all this but she chose to do as the woman said and use this as a learning experience. Research for her theory. She hoped that the results would be in her favor.
