There were these stories I read where the main character meets his heroes and they're either gullible and easy to manipulate so they become fast friends or so edgy and aloof that the main character gets some character development and becomes the hero.
I never read a story in which the main character meets his heroes and they're incredibly wary of him. Granted, most main characters aren't covered with burns and scabs on their arms and neck or appear out of the fire (Besides Harry Potter) and I did both so I had to ask myself the question; what do I do now?
I glance at them, my skin an angry pink as I idly peeled off the scabbing. They were staring at me from the other side of the campfire. The blond, who I suspect to be Luke and the raven-haired girl who I suspect to be Thalia slowly position themselves in front of the blonde child protectively.
"So," Luke started as he pulled the child behind him again, his blade angled towards me. I resisted the urge to chuckle, barely as he shuffled. "You Come Out of children's fires often?" With the moon shining down upon me I yanked off the last remnants of my scabbing, watching in interest as the flesh healed instantly. "No," I replied as I looked at him, his blue eyes widened a bit at how hoarse my voice sounded. "Only when my friend decides to blow up in my face. What year-uh date is it?"
"Uh, it's June seventh, 2001," Thalia answered and I glanced at her. She wore a black sweater opened to expose the white shirt beneath it and jeans, so I guess she was on the punk stage already. The long, messy black hair that was placed into a ponytail was. With a simple observe all was made bare to me.

About: Thalia Grace knew she was different from the other children thanks to her mother's drunken rantings. She tolerated the lack of care only because of her brother, Jason and the belief that he needed her. When he disappeared and her mother admitted that her stepmother, a goddess took him, she left, to find her brother and live with her father. Now, she only has one intention; keeping her surrogate sibling, Annabeth alive.
I found her history quite lengthy, but admirable. She ventured into unfamiliar lands for her brother and tolerated so much for familial love. How far did she go for him?
"Where did you guys come from?" I questioned as I peeled off the last scab from my neck. They eyed each other, and for a second I swear they were talking with their eyes, but that's impossible.
"Not from a fire that's what," Luke commented as he eyed me, his feet slowly dragging his sword towards him. "Where did you come from? Please don't say a fire," I nodded and inhaled, sharply as the moonlight touched my skin.

Huh, I kind of forgot that perk existed. "I'm from South Dakota," I answered as they stepped back hurriedly.
"Your eyes-" I waved it off as I averted my eyes from theirs. "It changes colour depending the if the moon is out," They nodded, but remained standing and tensed. "Where are you guys from?"
"I'm from California, and Luke's from Missouri," Thalia answered as I blinked in confusion. California and Missouri are about two thousand miles apart. How did they meet-
Oh. Either lies or Divine intervention. Silly me.
A small blonde head popped up from Thalia's back and eyed me, her grey eyes looking at me in confusion and wariness. She stepped out of Thalia's shadow, and my lips twitched at how she threateningly held the knife. With her wrist tense, and pinky pointing outwards she was as threatening to me as a baby seal. I tilted my head as I eyed her. "And you are?"
Luke turned in such a way that he did not leave his back towards me but also gave him the ability to look at her. "Annabeth," She answered as she looked at me with those grey eyes. I nodded. "A pleasure-" I started, but my eyes strayed from hers to the pairs of red eyes that were behind them.

Luke and Thalia tensed, and stepped back as I eyed the haunting red eyes at their backs.
I fought a few monsters, but the only ones I can remember that hunted me in a pack and had red eyes were hellhounds. Werewolves, though some had red eyes, not all of them did. I hope it's one of those and not some ancient pack-hunting monster.
I rose from the dirt, and Thalia's hand strayed towards her watch whilst Luke, grabbed Annabeth's hand. She turned away from his face, though her eyes glanced at their hands from time to time.
I crossed my arms as I pulled my twin blades from my inventory. They blinked and stepped back, but I gave them no attention, my eyes on the glowing red pairs as some disappeared. That made me warier. I waited, my eyes flickering over to Thalia as she stepped in front of Luke. Red eyes glowed in the shadow and I moved.
It was a hellhound! Ten points for me, I guess. It, like the trio before me, moved quite slowly, almost in slow motion as it burst from Thalia's shadow, pushing Luke and Annabeth to the floor as Thalia spun, her shield springing out much faster than she moved. It came down upon her, its claws grating against her shield as my blades cut into its spine, or should have cut into its spine. I blinked, the wind guiding me to the dirt as my blade phased through the bloody hound's body.
I eyed them, a feeling of betrayal swelling up inside me before I placed them back into my inventory. I'll check them out later. Thalia's cries and Annabeth's screams brought me back into the situation. Thalia was bashing the hound with her shield as it dug into her foot. Luke fended off some of the car-sized hellhounds whilst Annabeth did hit-and-run tactics, stabbing the hounds whenever Luke would avoid the snapping jaws and searching paws.
I brought my hands down on Thalia's attacker, and they easily cut through its back, its spine giving even less resistance. The hound gave a pained whimper before it exploded into gold dust.

I moved onwards, my feet lashing outwards and connecting to a hound's jaws, driving it straight into Luke's welcoming blade. Annabeth dropped to the floor with a squeak. I glanced at Luke's reproachful visage before I spun in the air, lightning dancing in my hands before my fist slammed into a hound's head. Gold dust splattered on my face as I landed on sticks and dirt, eying the other red eyes as they slowly faded into darkness.

I dodged to the side and kicked the hound that lunged at me, a sickening crack echoing from the forest before it exploded into gold dust.

I rolled to the side and glanced at the trio. Luke's arm was bleeding profusely as he alongside Annabeth dragged a crying Thalia away from the fire and into the bushes, which was bad since these hellhounds can shadow travel. I followed them and was surprised to see a ruined tent, with cans scattered on the floor as Luke struggled to keep a hellhound away from his face as it snapped and snarled. I noted that Thalia's shield lay sprawled on the floor as I grabbed the hound by the neck and pulled it off him. He sighed in relief as I held the wriggling and howling hound in my grasp. I forced it to the ground, snapping and barking all the way. I stared at it. Observe.

Thoughts on you: Anger, Fear,
Interesting. I thought as I pushed, the hound whimpering and shivering, its black ears resting on its neck. I eyed it and watched as its muscles shook, how its snout tilted outwards and its neck wiggled in an attempt to escape. I waited and watched. Its eyes turned to gold for only a moment, and that gold coursed through its body. I smiled.

Its fur turned from frazzled to smooth, and its eyes turn an obsidian black before it sank into the shadow beneath us. My hands closed into a fist as I stared, a feeling of contentment swelling up in my chest. I looked up, to see Annabeth staring at me, her grey eyes wide. I smiled and frowned soon after as she scurried into the ruined tent. With a glance to the moon, I followed, my hand grabbing the shield before I entered.
"He let the monster go-" Annabeth was saying before she froze up. I paid her no attention as I eyed my surroundings.
Unsurprisingly, the tent was dark and not bigger on the inside. Tin foods lay scattered on the floor, alongside Luke's sword and some gold dust. Thalia sat on a ruined sleeping bag, her blood staining the green material as she blinked repeatedly. Luke stood with a duffel bag, shoving anything he can get his hands on into it as he looked at me.
"You let the monster go?" I nodded. "It escaped me," His brows furrowed in thought as Thalia shakily got to her feet. "At least you did not die. We'll deal with it if it pops up again but, right now we need to leave," Annabeth, opened her mouth but he stepped towards her and murmured something in her ears. Her mouth shut and she nodded before whispering something back at him. Thalia made towards them and hissed as she stumbled forward. I stepped up and caught her in my arms. Surprisingly, her arms were rather firm. "Thanks," She muttered as she shifted, her weight now entirely on her undamaged foot. Her hand grasped her shield and with a smooth sound it turned into a watch and latched itself on her arm."No problem," I said, looking into her black hair and electric eyes for anything that remotely reminded me of my father.
I was glad to find not a single hint of him as Luke pushed me non too kindly away from her. "I got you," He murmured as he carried her away from me, his blue untrusting eyes glancing at me before he knelt. With a grunt, Thalia hoisted herself on his shoulders. "Come on," He said, with no signs of strain as he left the tent. "Let's go," Annabeth picked up his sword and followed after him, me not a moment behind. "Where are we going?"
Luke paused and turned to me, his face scrunched up in contemplation before he opened his mouth. "Safehouse," He replied as he continued his trek.

It was quiet, I noted as I looked around, much to the wariness of my companions. A little too quiet for a forest, with no birds chirping, nothing but our footsteps. I stopped and listened. My companions also stopped and looked at me, and Annabeth slowly angled her blade towards me. Luke, looked uneasy. "What are you doing?" He demanded and I felt it. The tingle that screamed 'danger!'. I spun, my eyes searching the forest for anything strange to me, like an eagle watching me before crying out and flying away, or an owl watching me, or even the black hellhounds the size of cars and vans appearing and disappearing through the shadows.
I raised my hand to the sky, and the sky rapidly darkened. I turned to them and saw that her heads tilted upwards, before they looked at me again, their eyes filled with bafflement. I turned and brought my hand down. Lightning descended with a loud crack and smashed into a tree. It exploded into shards, but the hound that came from its shadow arched in the air, before slamming down into the earth, dirt and sticks flying out of its way.
It seems that the Alertness stat works well.
"Run!" I screamed as the hounds howled, their shadow tactic abandoned as they emerged from the trees' shadows in masses. Snarls and roars filled the forest as they ran, rather slowly in my opinion. I jumped in the air, and the wind was like my wings, letting me fly as I brought my hand up again and brought it down twice as fast.

My feet gently touched the earth as whines and yelps exploded from the hellhounds, and a cacophony of rage and pain filled the forest. I grabbed Annabeth by the waist, ignored her outcry and turned to Luke, who was gaping at my handiwork. "Move it!" I demanded as I darted past him.
There was a strange intersection, I slowed in confusion, and made to go left but Luke's cry of 'Go right,' had me adjusting my course and continuing my pace. I saw a house, a quaint house with two windows and a door that was slightly open. I released Annabeth, who stumbled and dropped to the floor. I pulled her to her feet and wrestled the sword from her weak grasp before gently pushing her in the direction of the house. "Get inside," I urged her and I watched as she stumbled to the door. I turned and waited, the business end of the blade in the soil. The howls of hellhounds grew louder and more erratic as Luke stumbled through the clearing, his shoulder and side damp with blood. I stepped forward, and his blade whizzed past his neck and embedded itself into a hellhound's head.

A wall of ice blocked my attacker from continuing his assault. Red Eyes bored into me before its jaw opened.
"Torrington!" The beast roared as it swiped repeatedly at my ice wall. Like a bear, it stood on its hind legs, and with another swipe, my ice wall gained a splinter. "It seems the gods do have a heart for my kind!" I eyed him in confusion and the splinter that rapidly grew before I bit my finger, drawing out blood and shaping it into a very, thin red needle. I waited as its claws burst through my wall. The needle rose, and I curled my finger. As it burst through the wall I made a flicking motion and watched as the hound collapsed, its forearm bleeding profusely.

I tilted my head. "You're that hellhound that I didn't kill a few years back," I noted as it stood on its uninjured legs. "Couldn't kill," It barked out a laugh. Prideful bugger this hound. "You were so weak then. Your punches were like my children's swipes when they were pups now out their mother," I raised a brow as it stood on its hind legs. "The same pups I just killed?"
It nodded. "The very same," It towered over me, but strangely enough, it did not attack. I looked around and found myself surrounded by hellhounds that mirrored his motions. "You do not attack? Why?" It barked out a laugh. "It would be most unwise to attack a demigod in the vicinity of a god, especially one that is not said demigod's parent. The Ancient Laws stop them from interfering in their own children's lives, not another child's and Gods are known to be fickle. The Messenger may allow us to breathe Ouranos' air one moment, be in his consort's territory without harm and in the next moment simply kill us for being around his consort's house, because our presence bothers the poor woman," It snorted as it landed on its paws. "It will not bode well for our mission to be killed by the Messenger,"
I nodded. "So you stay your hand until he leaves," It barked out another laugh.
"We stay our teeth until the Three-Headed Elder comes. The Messenger may be a God, but he knows to challenge the Second Guardian of the Underworld is to challenge its Master, The Lord of the Dead. Though he is strong, he cannot hope to fight against the King of the Underworld and win, " A loud hiss reverberated throughout the forest and it snorted. The hounds shuffled, making a path to the house. "He grows restless, the Messenger. Go, you may have until noon if you are lucky, midday if you are not. Go, enter the House of the woman who cries. We will see each other soon," It promised, its voice bold and boisterous as I stepped towards the house. As I stood just before the open door, a pop-up appeared.

I clicked yes as I entered, and they howled.
"You took your time," A sombre voice said as I looked at the source. A man looked at me his curly black and white hair and blues eyes that reminded me of Luke, except more sombre and less distrusting. In his hand was a staff with two snakes, their tails embedded into the staff. They wiggled as they looked at me. "I was starting to get worried they ate you," I smiled. "I was just having a conversation with a rival," He quirked his brown as the snakes hissed. "A rival you say?" I nodded. "Yeah, a rival. You see he attacked my house a few years back so I killed some of his packmates. Now he slapped me. What else could we be but rivals?"
He chuckled and nodded. "I see. Your family is over there," He jutted his head towards the open doorway. Family… "Before you go," He winked as I felt something fall into my pocket.
I smiled at him and made my way over. I passed Luke on the way through. He gave a surprised look, but nodded at me, to which I returned. Annabeth sat on the couch and gave me a mean look. I nodded my head in greeting. "I'm Damian." Her lips scrunched up, as did her slightly chubby face before she replied. "Annabeth," I nodded as I sat next to her. "Nice to meet …you…"I trailed off as she got up and sat on the couch opposite me. I frowned. She tilted her head, and her lips twitched. I glanced at the knife strapped to her waist. Luke gave it to her, didn't he?
"Nice knife," I started, feeling pleased as she turned unsheathed it and smiled. "Where did you get it from?"
"Luke gave it to me," She said, her voice high but soft. "He found me in an alleyway, hiding from monsters. He saved me, and gave me the knife," I nodded. I knew all of this, but it was good to hear it from her. That way, I would have an excuse as to why I know. Annabeth talking to me is just a bonus. "Did he teach you how to fight?" She frowned but shook her head.
"Well," I started as I moved closer to her. "Your grip's terrible," She looked at me, affronted and I used that moment to grab her hand, and close all her fingers around the hilt. She looked at our hands and pulled away none too kindly and scooted to the other end of the couch. I looked at her, and she pretended to look somewhere else, anywhere but in my direction. I bit back the bitterness for a while before Luke stormed inside, his eyes shining in fury.
"Pack up we're leaving," Annabeth made to say something, But Luke snapped out a "Now Annabeth!" and she scurried. He exited the room and I followed, blinking in bewilderment as his sword was in his hand. How did he get it? He stomped his way to the door, his sword arm trembling.
He pushed the door open and a sea of black furs and red eyes greeted him. He screamed and launched himself into the pack of hounds. I could have stopped him. I could have done something, anything but I didn't. I followed not a moment later, my spear in my hand as I dived right into the fray.
It was not hard to see that Luke was untrained. He made a plethora of mistakes, some that took flesh and drew blood not instantly, but in time his roles did not make sense. His sidesteps only invited more hounds to take a swipe at him. His pivots often led him to be thrown to the floor by the weight of the hellhound above. Many times, I had to save him via an icicle to a hound's brain that most undoubtedly would bite his arms off.
My spear twirled in the air my head before I grabbed it by the shaft and jabbed, the spear catching hound in the neck. I yanked the spear out and forged on, the bodies of the hellhounds around me disappearing into fine gold dust.
"Torrington!" Came the snarl and I spun to the side, my spear twirling between my fingers. I swiped, and the spear slammed into the side of the Greater Hellhound's face. It snarled, though its eyes betrayed its excitement. "Time to die!" It swiped back and I grimaced as I felt its claws tear my clothes and scraped my skin. I brought the spear's tip downwards to the floor and delivered a punch to its face. It went down with a grunt, blood seeping from its head. I spun, and my hand caught a leaping hellhound in mid-air. I grunted as I slammed it to the floor. It howled before my spear silenced it by entering its throat.
Another over-dove at me, and I pounded into the floor, its head caving at the second pound before it exploded into gold dust. I jumped, and my spear found itself in the mouth of a hellhound. Miraculously, it did not snap as I collided with the dirt. It bent but did not break as tore it out of the hellhound's brain. I kicked one and watched as it flew in the air before I body-slammed the other. My spear caught another in the throat as I backhanded one away from us. I flicked my wrist. Icicles formed
-1000MP
They embedded themselves into the hellhound surrounding. They died in droves. I turned and grunted as my clothes became tatters. He was back. I brought my spear up, both hands on either side as his paws came down upon it. I was forced to one knee.
"I am Mikró Mávro!" It snarled as its paw shifted. It batted aside the spear and I raised my arm to block the blow. I grunted at the contact. "The Last Hellhound spawned by Mother Night!" My fist slammed into his stomach and he snarled, his claws ranking against my face. I stumbled back. "I will not fall without glory! I will not die to one blow! And I will not let my brethren die whilst I lay on the floor!" He roared as he backhanded me, I jumped with the blow and spun in the air before delivering a kick to his face. He roared in pain as he both collapsed to the ground, gold dust flying up in the air. His jaw was in his claws as he looked at me. I watched in wonder as he placed his jaw where it was, and it healed. his mouth opened and closed as we rose. He looked around, and after a moment, so did i.
The area was covered in dust. A hound was taking Luke for a joy ride before Annabeth stabbed it in the eye. It turned to snap at her, but Luke stabbed it in the shoulder. It snarled as it collapsed to the floor. Luke scrambled from below it as Annabeth slashed at its paws, her screams loud.
Spear of Achilles has been placed into your inventory!
It shifted, and Annabeth jabbed at it before she fell to the floor and backed away as it clawed its way to her. Suddenly Luke was on top of the hellhound, and Annabeth was inches away from its jaws. Her knife jutted out from its neck as Luke raised his sword and brought it down. He gasped as the hound exploded into gold dust.
I blinked before I turned to him. "You're the last one of this attack," He chuckled as he shook his head, the blood staining his fur red. "The best one survives, always,"
"You look good in red," I commented. He nodded. "Thank you," I took my spear from my inventory and pointed it at him. "Shall we continue?" He shook his head as he retreated into the shadows. "No," He said, his eyes staring intently at me. "We shall do this another time," I quirked a brow but nodded. No one else needed to die today. "Alright,"
"Farewell, child of Hecate," He said before he shadow travelled away from us.
The spear of Achilles was placed into inventory!
I glanced at Luke, who was checking up on a pale Thalia, who sat on the balcony. Annabeth was making her way towards me.
"You let another one go again," She accused and I nodded. "You could've killed it,"
"That one was beyond me," I lied. "But you're always welcome to try," She huffed.
"I think you're working with them," She said as showed me her knife. I glanced at her before I made my way to the whispering duo.
"Hey dude," I said as I prodded his shoulder. He turned to me, his eye asking the unasked question. "You mind if I grab some paper and ink?" He turned to Thalia, who shrugged. "GO on," Luke said whilst I made a shooing motion. "We leave in five minutes. It's on the counter upstairs. And Kid?" I looked at him, and he smiled. "My name's Luke," I nodded and proceeded upstairs.

I sighed as I reached the table. On it was a stack of paper and some pens. My hand reached for it, but another attempted to grab my wrist. I jumped and pulled back.
"Sorry dear," Her soft voice said as I stared into her brown eyes. "I just needed to ask you something before you take it," I looked at her, my wrist cold as I saw wisps of dark magic coming off her form in wisps. "What is it?" I asked, and I shivered as she touched me, but watched in interest as the curse receded as she came into contact with me.
"Protect my son," She begged as she brought me closer to her body. "Please, protect my boy," I touched the stack of paper and a couple of pens.

"I will miss," I promised as she released me. "I will,"
