Author's Notes: As promised last chapter, here is the second guy who got Isekaied in this story. Hope you guys enjoy him, as I do have some pretty "interesting" plans for him in the future. But of course, there's still a lot of building I have to do in this story in order to get to those plans. I'll alternate between these 2 guys so each can have their own stories built up as I continue on with this plot, again that will be indicated by the underlined POV with their respective names.
Thank you for reading this far into this silly story, it truly means a lot.
Once again, If you notice any flaws in this story. Please do not hesitate to criticize me, I'll happily read and apply any valid criticism I receive. I only as you to do so politely.
Hope you enjoy this chapter.
/TRIGGER WARNING/ SUICIDE
First POV:
The world was burning.
It was steadily getting hotter, and only in a few hours. The planet would be reduced to a burning ball of magma in space, assuming it doesn't explode.
My name is Percival Julius Caine, or Simply Docter Caine. I was one of the first to determine the fate of the world.
I worked for an "Private" organization, one meant to keep order in the world. Through any means necessary.
Unfortunately, humans were incapable of finding a way to defend ourselves from this cosmic event. Absolutely nothing to stop it, we just had to sit and wait for our inevitable demise.
My subordinates, or simply coworkers. We're the first to run and scatter, to spend time with their families before the world becomes engulfed in flames.
I never had such luxuries, I was fully committed to this line of work so that consequently I didn't have a family to return to.
As soon as the word got out which didn't take long. That the world was ending, everyone went savage.
Security guards that once constantly protected us 24/7 turned and became cold blooded monsters, other staff and personal soon joined their "antics".
Those who were unfortunately too weak to defend themselves, were subjected to the mercy of any one stronger.
If it wasn't obvious already, there was no mercy.
This didn't only apply in our organization headquarters, this was a world wide phenomenon.
The moment we sent the confirmation to our superiors, who than notified the world leaders through whatever means they had. Everyone seemingly flipped and began scrambling to do what they wanted.
I sat alone in my office after the meeting, the meeting which consisted of the dreaded news of when we'd all die.
I was the only one who attended the meeting, everyone else ran home.
Despite this incoming Armageddon, I remained at headquarters.
Looking at various photos caught on my phone, reminiscing on my few beloved memories I had.
Didn't mind dying, I lived a meaningful life. I protected the world, not a task any random person can receive. I also had done things I was not proud of, involved in a multitude of Human tragedies that needed to be done in order to prevent mass information leaking, that could disrupt society and lead to more bloodshed.
Maybe if I'd actually had a few friendships with my subordinates, or even with anyone in particular. I might find myself reacting the same way as they are.
Still…
Despite being at this high of latter, my subordinates never actually liked me.
They feared me, for things that I have done, things that NEEDED to be done.
I hate it, why couldn't they understand? I'm not a monster for christ sake! I did what had to be done! I am not a!-
I paused, doing my best to control my anger.
'Fools, all of them'
I violently clenched my teeth in frustration.
It was obvious they didn't like my means of fixing problems. But they'd never admit it, my solutions always worked flawlessly.
In truth, I didn't much like them either. They ridiculed me, insulted me to my face, and called me a monster.
'I've only done things for the greater good of the human race!'
I took a deep breath.
No need to be wasting my precious last moments of life pondering these imbeciles.
I got up from my chair, and walked towards an elevator located directly in my office. It was rather convenient, allowing me to traverse all floors without using the ones located in the hallways.
I picked the top most location, the roof of the headquarters.
As the elevators door parted open for me to pass, I immediately felt an intense wave of heat engulf my entire body.
Outside was already scorching, as if the planet was placed inside an oven .
The sky was a hazy orange glow, trees were already burning down around the headquarters. It was located in a discreet location between mountains.
I can see the snow that once resided on top of the mountains, its no longer there, just barren rock.
I heard gunshots emanating from below me, presumably the guards in a killing spree or some other hooligan that had a gun.
Looking under my laboratory coat, I had a gun of my own located.
A pistol, Never had once used it.
A book was also situated under my coat, fortunately it hasn't burn just yet. It contains multitude of sacred knowledge that should be kept sacred, and a few personal entries.
I walked towards the edge of the roof, passed the helipad. Looking at the orange sky, sweating like a pig. I casted a silent prayer.
I never believed in a higher power. It was mostly to try and calm my nerves, and hope that if there is a higher power, they'll at least forgive my sins.
I drew my gun, quickly checked the magazine.
'It's loaded'
And proceeded to do the only reasonable reaction to this incoming doom.
I aimed towards my head, just above the ear. In hopes of a painless death.
Then I pulled the trigger.
Dr. Caine's POV:
I felt myself waking up.
I felt moist, laying on my left side.
'I'm breathing'
But how? Is this the afterlife? Surely this isn't heaven, Hell? It's surprisingly cold if it is.
Instantly I sat up, and looked around.
'H-how! How did I end up here!?'
I began frantically patting the side of my head, looking for a gaping hole.
There was no bullet hole, let alone any pain.
I felt fine, other than being covered In mud.
I stood up, a little disoriented. Looking at my hands as if they magically disappeared/morphed into claws or something else, but they were still there.
I was in one piece.
Lush grass and vegetation was all around me, looked like I was in a forest? I still bore my lab coat, and after a quick inventory check I still had my pistol, and book.
My phone was still in my pocket.
'Where am I?'
I was speechless, I should be dead. But I'm not? The world should be reduced to its primitive state, but it seems completely…
fine?
'False alarm? Impossible'
You can't simply mess up the prediction of the end of the world, right?
I saw no man made structures near by, it was like I was randomly dumped here.
During my confusion, I let out a few coughs and began to roam.
Pulled out my phone and turned it on, I tried calling 911.
No one picked up.
Tried calling my coworkers, it immediately cut right after I press the call button.
'What's going on…'
I continued walking, looking up information on my phone, you can imagine how'd that work out with no cell service.
Thankfully, traversing mud wasn't all too difficult thanks to my boots. But after a couple of minutes of walking in a random direction, I found a breach In the forest.
It opened up to a wide valley with tall grass, it was gorgeous. And most importantly, not burnt.
I hesitated entering it, if there were any predators. I doubt I'd spot them in time.
After taking a deep breath, I drew my gun and entered the tall grass.
If I wanted any chance to encounter any sort of civilization, I had to find a river and follow it.
It was the best chance I had to find a way out of this forest and find out what the hell happened to the world I once knew.
Carefully placing one foot in front of the other, I made progress. Making sure not to draw too much attention to myself, but also making sure to not encounter any snakes or other predators in these parts.
'A river'
Soon enough, I heard a distant river and instantly changed course to head directly towards it.
As I got closer, the louder it got. The more relieved I was getting, and the more I began to realize how thirsty I was.
'Ah fuck it, if pulling the trigger didn't kill me than I doubt this will'
I broke into a full on sprint, and ran towards the river.
After a final leap, I broke through the tall grass and found my saving grace.
'Thank god'
I got down on one knee, cupped my hands and took a refreshing sip. Didn't care if the water was dirty, I was found myself to be incredibly dehydrated.
*Low grumble*
I paused.
'A lion!?'
What could've caused that noise? I was in the middle of slurping down another hand full of water when I heard it.
Before I had a chance to look behind me, something materialized in the water.
And there I saw it, staring back at me.
A dragon.
'I think I officially lost it'
I was paralyzed, despite the waters current. It stayed stationary, looking at me with curious eyes.
I didn't dare to move, I felt it scanning every inch of my body as I remained frozen still on one knee.
'Damn it!' I mentally cursed myself, I dropped my gun without even noticing it on the shore.
I was eventually spared, as it seemingly lost interest and let itself be taken by the current. Emitting a few flashes of light.
Even than I didn't dare to move, afraid it'd come back and make a snack out of me.
'A living dragon'
And before you knew it, I broke out in laughter.
Who knew beast from a children fantasy books existed! Countless thoughts sprung from my head, experiments I hoped to conduct when I get my hands on one, but they'd have to wait for another time.
After calming down, I stood up straight. Pants partially submerged in water, dried out my hands on my dirty white lab coat, fixed my collar, and turned around, determined more than ever before to find civilization.
I Paused.
'My gun?'
My gun was no where to be found, I only had to look up a bit more before I found it.
In the hands of a child.
The child looked at the gun, in clear curiosity.
I Simply observed him, as he began to mess around with it.
'Hmm, could there be a village nearby'
The child held the gun by the barrel before eventually looking down at said barrel. The boy, now had grip the gun properly by its handle, seem like he is debating whether to touch the "funny" lever.
'It'd be a shame for a bullet to go to waste'
I decided to finally speak up.
After clearing my throat.
"put that weapon down!" I made sure to say it firmly to get my point across, despite that I was a bit uncomfortable. I never really had dealt with children before, so this is new territory.
The boy finally noticed, who somehow completely forgot or ignored my presence instantly dropped the gun and in fear took cover behind the tall grass.
Relieved, I quickly scurried over to the gun and grabbed it. For my own defense, should it come down to it.
I held it by my side.
the boy peeking through the tall grass. Seemingly waiting to see what I'll do next.
"H-hello?" I decided to initiate conversation a bit awkwardly I admit, as it was quickly becoming uncomfortable having the boy stalk me from the tall grass.
No reaction, he simply stared back in confusion.
I waved.
The boy waved back.
'Progress' mentally pumping my fist.
I decided to try my luck with different languages, the boy was a tanned skin individual. Shaggy hair, wore short pants that reached to his knees, had a primitive looking sleeveless vest on. The boy also had a few accessories, like a bracelet, and face paint?
With these things in mind, I tried saying hello in a few languages I know.
"Hola?" No reaction.
"Namaste?" Followed up with a small bow, trying to be as respectful as possible.
The boy giggled at my gesture.
"Marhaba?" No reaction.
Sigh
This was getting tedious.
Suddenly the boy ran away, into the tall grass.
I paused momentarily, caught off guard by the child's abrupt disappearance before shouting.
"Wait!"
I had to run after him, I had no clue where I was and if this boy was running back to his village. Perhaps an individual there I can communicate with can explain to me where I am and help answer my questions.
Leaping into the tall grass, following the sounds of rustling of tall grass where the boy was running through. The boy apparently thought this to be fun as I heard giggling in this distance. Running in some random direction, for all I knew we could suddenly run off a cliff and I would have no way to know.
I was putting too much trust in this child, buts not like I had any other choice. Eventually we broke from the tall grass and I finally had a better view of where the boy was running.
Now I found myself chasing the boy through a dense forest, jumping over branches, plowing through thick bushes, dodging hanging branches, and even jumping over a small stream of water and nearly slipping. I was struggling to keep up, all the while the boy was laughing his heart out, nimbly jumping and swinging off low hanging branches. He'd occasionally run backwards as if to see if I'm keeping up with a happy grin on his face, than he'd turn tail and run again.
My lab coat constantly found itself stuck on random bushes and branches, fortunately I didn't have to stop in order to fix it. As my momentum would simply rip off fabric from my coat.
After what seemed to be hours of me chasing this child through the forest, I found myself running into a open area of the forest.
And in the open area, was a small village.
I quickly laid my hands on my knees and wheezed, I was never built for this type of exercise. So I spent a good minute gathering my breath, trying to get as much oxygen in my body so I can finally continue walking.
'Finally'
After some short amount of time, I felt capable of walking without breathing like a donkey.
Looking at my tattered clothing, a bit disappointed. I finally looked ahead.
The boy was waving towards me, behind a corner of a house.
The said house was made from cobble, and fit the natural stereotype of a small village home. It was square had a slanted roof that consisted of thatch, windows accompanied with wooden shutters.
Every house here seemed to follow this same layout, as far as I can tell at least. A few villagers were walking about, and quickly spotted me. Most likely due to my white attire.
As I began to walk towards the boy who was waving at me, the villagers quickly began to murmur amongst each other.
It was a language I didn't recognize.
'Great' I mentally cursed my luck.
A villager almost bumped into me as I turned the corner of the house, she let out a high pitched yelp and quickly sped walked past me, side eyeing me.
I didn't pay attention, as I aimed to hopefully find the leader of this village.
As I approached the boy, he held the door opened for me, welcoming me inside his home.
'Don't they raise children to be wary of strangers here?'
I didn't question it much longer, as I accepted his invitation.
Putting aside my previous objective, for now at least.
Inside, the boy plopped himself on a chair and gestured for me to sit next to him.
I looked at him slightly confused, why is he all of a sudden being incredibly friendly with me? Where are his parents?
But I felt exhausted.
These past events of learning that the world is gonna end, only to somehow survive it, end up in an unknown forest, finding a dragon, then getting into a goose chase with a village child.
It drained me out of all of my energy.
So I gave him a weak smile and once again accepted his invitation.
We sat what I assumed to be the living room/kitchen of the home, there was a hallway which I assumed led to the rooms of this house, there doesn't seem to be anything separating the kitchen from the living room.
Sitting in the middle of this kitchen/living room.
Wasn't sure what I was supposed to be doing, are we waiting for someone? Is there something I'm supposed to do? I started to become anxious, especially when I noticed the boy eyeing me up and down.
I turn to look at the boy who stared at me eagerly with what appeared to be stars in his eyes, I only scratched the back of my neck as I didn't know what he expected me to do here.
'Magic tricks?'
Suddenly, someone appeared from the hallway. A women, as soon as she laid her eyes on me. She stopped in her tracks and shouted.
"Pulicis!" This caught me off guard and I flinched considerably. The boy simply smiled sheepishly and stood by his mother at the hallway.
Understandably, she was standoffish.
I raised both of my hands up in "surrender" and smiled nervously hoping to calm her down.
Unfortunately, this didn't work as she proceeded to shout once again.
"Roach!"
'Did she just insult me?'
Suddenly, a burly man approached from behind her and gently moved her aside. Now he stood furiously in front of his family, towering over me.
'Shit!'
"Wait! Look!" However he didn't understand me, and started to quickly approach me.
In a panic, I reached into my lab coat.
Pulled out my phone, and showed the screen towards him.
He stopped in his tracks.
I was covering my face like a coward using my left arm, while my right arm was stuck out holding the phone screen to their faces.
Suddenly everything went still and silent, I opened my right eye and slightly lowered my left arm that was blocking my face. Only to find the 3 individuals staring dumbfounded at my device.
I quickly lowered my defensive posture and retuned to look at the screen myself.
I quickly became flustered as I remembered my Lock Screen consisted of kittens I once saved long ago.
"just a sec!" I stammered out.
The family almost seemed disappointed to no longer see the kittens as they all slightly frowned.
I don't blame them.
Frantically, I pulled up a translation app. Fortunately it doesn't need any signal to work, as it was built in.
"My name is Percival" I said out loud towards the burly man, He cocked his head to the side.
I didn't expect a response of course, I was only hoping to get him to speak so the app will be able to identify his language.
"Quis es? peregrinum?" The burly man finally talked, his voice was gruff which made me slightly shudder.
Language identified, Latin. Finally the app did its job.
'Latin Speakers, interesting'
I repeated what I said earlier but this time towards the phone, the phone picked it up and now had it ready to translate it towards Latin. I showed them the screen once more.
All 3 approached the phone in wonder at the strange device. I waited a bit, getting a bit impatient, before it finally hit me.
"Ah right, sorry. I'll get this for you"
I pressed the "translate button" turned up the volume, than turned the mic in their direction.
"salve, mihi nomen est percival"
All hell broke loose.
Immediately, the woman and child screamed at the top of their lungs and before I had any Time to react. The burly man picked me up by my neck and threw me out the door with Herculean strength.
I landed on my back, immediately knocking all air from my lungs. And stumbled over the dirt, before I could even get up the burly man pinned me down with his bare feet and started shouting for what I assume help.
'These people are batshit crazy!'
There was no use fighting back, mere moments I was surrounded by villagers angrily shouting at me. I managed to hide my phone away in my coat before it could get any more damaged, I tried reaching for my gun right after but then he saw me moving, and applied more pressure effectively nailing me to the ground to stop me from squirming.
Before long, I was tied up. Both legs bound and arms tied around my back. I plead helplessly for them to let me go, this only seemed to enraged them as the warriors from this village hauled me over their shoulders and carried me into the forest.
'This is how I actually die'
At some point I gave up, I stopped pleading and fighting for my life. There was simply nothing I could do to change their minds.
I heard running water, and as I got closer. I heard sounds of crashing water.
'Shit'
Realization soon enveloped me, these barbarians we're gonna toss me into the river.
I managed to look ahead to where they were carrying me, and I was right.
Ahead of me, a river flowed with high velocity.
Didn't take long before we got close to the edge, and they threw me onto the sandy shore. They proceeded to angrily shout at me, before they were interrupted by an elderly figure.
An individual, clothed in dark robes. With the only visible human feature being his wrinkly face and bald head. Everyone stood up straight and in silence, allowing this figure to approach me.
"Stare eum" commanded the Figure, warriors quickly linked their arms under mine tied around my back and hoisted me up to stand on my own 2 tied legs.
"Homo alienus in vestitu alieno, artem magicam exerces quae in villa nostra interdicta est"
Not understanding a single word, I said.
"Fuck you" I spat at his face, letting my anger consume me.
I grinned in satisfaction.
I was then thrown into the crashing river.
