…
Today was the day. Eddie could hardly believe they were doing this.
A year ago, he would have never considered writing music again. A year ago, he would have laughed if someone told him he would have a boyfriend who practically lived with him, and now they were about to spend two months in LA with Charlie. But here he was, looking down at the final bag to be packed, feeling giddy with anticipation.
"Eddie?" A quiet knock at the door had him straightening up and turning, smile widening because there Steve was, standing in the doorway. He smiled back, approaching the bed, and rolled his eyes at the empty bag. "Doing well, I see?"
Eddie hummed and quickly pushed the bag onto the floor, dragging his laughing boyfriend onto the bed instead. This close, he could count the familiar freckles in Steve's eyes if he wanted to (there were seven). "Maybe I'm already sabotaging my chances."
Steve frowned. "Don't do that. I know you're nervous, but you got this. And you're not alone."
"I know. I've got you and Charlie."
"Exactly." Steve kissed him, laughing when Eddie chased him for more as he sat up. "Pack your bag. If you're quick enough, we might have time to make out."
That was enough incentive to get Eddie packing again. Steve kissed him once more, squeezed his shoulder, and left not to distract him, which was good because Eddie found it hard to focus on anything else when Steve was in the room.
They had been together for almost ten months, give or take, but officially? It had only been a few weeks. Their entire relationship had been based on a sex-only agreement that neither of them had been able to keep. And the worst part was finding out who Steve was, Charlie's teacher, so they had stopped. Those few months had been torturous but so worth it because now, Charlie had graduated, and they were finally together.
The honeymoon phase was persisting, and Eddie was finding it hard to keep his hands to himself. If it weren't for Charlie, they would never wear clothes. But he did have Charlie, and he couldn't blame her for wanting Steve's attention, too.
With the bag packed and ready, Eddie carried it to the door to sit with the others for when they left in a few hours. It was quiet inside, which was unusual. "Guys?" Eddie called, worried when he got no answer. "Hello?"
Still no answer, and panic was starting to set in. But then he heard a familiar shriek and sighed in relief, hurrying to the patio door to find Charlie and Steve outside. They were playing on the tire swing Steve had helped Chris install, and Charlie loved it, spending hours outside rocking back and forth. Today, though, she had persuaded Steve to wind the rope around so when he let go, she would spin so fast it made Eddie nervous, and he walked out to join them.
Steve saw him first, grinning at his worried expression. "She's fine."
"I love it!" Charlie called, voice wavering as she spun, making Eddie feel nauseous just looking at her.
"Just hold on tight, okay?"
"I am!"
Avoiding Charlie's wild legs, he skirted around to Steve's side and sighed. "She'll be sick."
"You worry too much. Besides, she hasn't eaten for a few hours." Steve's smile was disarming, and it unhelpfully put Eddie at ease. Steve noticed because he stepped closer, wrapping an arm around Eddie's waist to press their bodies together and squeezed his hip. "You trust me, don't you?"
Eddie just huffed, not dignifying the question with a proper answer. Of course, he trusted Steve. If he didn't, Steve wouldn't even know about Charlie, and especially not be left alone with her.
Steve took that as a yes and kissed him.
"Gross!"
Chuckling, Eddie pulled back to murmur, "You hear that Princess? She thinks we're gross."
"Spin me again?" Steve stepped away, squeezing Eddie's hand before turning the tire again as Charlie giggled and kicked her feet. "I'm holding on tight, Daddy."
"Good." He walked away as Steve let go, calling over his shoulder, "We're leaving in an hour. Don't forget!"
Eddie got the bags packed in the car, double-checking they had everything because two months was a long time. He went back inside to find Charlie had finished on the swing and was running around, looking worried. When she saw Eddie, she started crying. "I can't find Dio!"
"Well, I'm sure he's around here somewhere." Eddie helped her check the main room, but they found nothing. "Bedroom?"
"Steve's looking there," Charlie sniffed, rubbing at her tear-stained face. Eddie sighed and scooped her up, setting her on the kitchen side to clean her up.
Booping her nose, Eddie smiled. "We'll find him, okay? Or I'll call the pilot and tell him he has to wait until Dio is found."
"Lucky for you two, I am an amazing hunter." Steve was leaning against the wall, and he waved the stuffed rabbit, coming over to put it in Charlie's lap. "He was hiding under your pillow."
"Thank you, Steve!" Charlie hopped down to hug him.
"Anything for you," He told her earnestly, dropping a kiss on her head. When he looked up and caught Eddie's eye, he laughed. "What?"
Eddie was sure he had a lovesick expression on his face but couldn't find it in himself to care. Instead, he accepted his fate of being utterly in love with Steve in stride, pulling him in by his belt loops to kiss him. "Thank you for finding Dio. Now, are we ready to go? We can stop and get snacks on the way."
Once Charlie was secure in the back, Eddie took the wheel. He started up Iron Maiden's latest album, Senjustu. Steve looked impressed when Charlie sang along with enthusiastic headbanging, and Eddie laughed. "She has good taste."
And then Steve really surprised him by singing along too. Eddie had to exercise extreme focus on the road so he didn't look over and accidentally crash. Hearing their two voices mix was the best thing Eddie had ever heard. If he could sneak them into the recording studio, he might make himself an album. Charlie would love it, and Steve was game for anything Charlie wanted.
The drive was relatively easy until they reached the airport, and Eddie had to navigate several different lanes to get to the correct parking lot. It was a relief to get out and stretch finally. Charlie jumped out, and, backpack on, she marched around to him with a beaming smile. "How long until we fly?"
"Still a few hours."
"Oh." She looked disappointed but was soon distracted by a plane landing. "Wow. They're loud."
"Wait until we're on one," Steve told her, pulling the luggage from the back, and he sent Eddie a look that had him hurrying around to help.
Ladened with luggage and keeping a close eye on Charlie, they made their way to the airport. She stuck between them as the crowd swelled, looking awed and slightly nervous. And it was Steve she reached for, tucking her tiny hand into his. Eddie knew from experience how warm and comforting Steve's hold was. Trusting Steve not to lose Charlie in the crowd, he led the way to the luggage drop-off.
"Can we get food? I'm hungry."
"As soon as we get through security."
"Security?" Charlie glanced at two security officers who happened to be walking past. "Are they gonna search us like in the movies?"
"That depends. Are you hiding something in your tummy?" Eddie poked her gently. "Cookies, maybe? They would stop us for some of Steve's cookies, don't you think?"
"Uh-huh. They're the best." She looked at Steve hopefully, but he only shook his head. "Can we get cookies in the shops?"
"Sure. And as soon as we're settled, we'll make some, okay? Our first LA cookies."
Eddie managed to plant a kiss on Steve's cheek before he was dragged away towards the security terminals. Despite being nervous, Charlie walked through the scanners quickly and into Eddie's waiting arms. The machines, though, she found interesting and watched the screens as the luggage passed through. It went smoothly, with no sneaky additions from Charlie.
On the other side, Eddie could already feel his wallet getting lighter as Charlie looked around the shops like it was a wonderland. He leaned close to Steve and whispered, "You're paying for lunch."
"You're the rockstar."
"Ex-rockstar. I'm not made of money."
Steve hummed, stopping to examine a rack of sunglasses. He spun it gently, the lights flickering on their shiny surfaces. "What's it like, the lifestyle?"
Too much. Eddie swallowed back that reply and put on a smile. "It can be fun, but it can also be too much. People following you every time you go outside, the pressure, the demand on your time. Having to put on a show so much that you can't remember who you actually are." He shook his head, picking up a pair to put on Steve. "Perfect."
"Eddie-"
"You'll need some for the sun. It gets bright."
"Forget the sun." Steve took off the sunglasses, grabbing Eddie's hands. Trying to distract himself, he looked around for Charlie, but she was waiting for them by the candy aisle. "Hey, look at me." Steve grabbed his chin gently, turning Eddie's head so their eyes could meet. "We can go home right now if you want. If you're not ready. Nobody will blame you. There's nothing to prove."
Except to himself.
"Come on, before Charlie tries to rob them blind." Eddie leaned in for a quick kiss, breaking free to stop her from grabbing everything within reach. "Hey, hey, slow down. You're gonna be sitting on a plane for ages!"
Ladened down with candy and lamenting his losses, Eddie was at Steve's mercy as they sat down to wait. As soon as Charlie was engrossed in her new activity book, headphones on, he fixed Eddie with a determined sort of look that let him know their earlier conversation hadn't been forgotten.
"I meant what I said. It's not too late to turn back."
"And disappoint Charlie?"
"Well," Steve chuckled softly and looked down at her. His expression was fond, and it pulled at Eddie's heart. "When you put it like that… how about a safe word? You say it, and we leave."
"You too."
"What about pumpkin?"
Eddie frowned. "Pumpkin?"
"Well, it's not a word we normally use, so, yeah, it works. Like red."
Even though they weren't in a scene, it still made a shiver work down Eddie's spine. Steve had never used the word before, and he hoped he never would. Smiling, he reached out to hold Steve's hand, pressing a kiss to it. "I love you."
"Is that an agreement?"
Eddie nodded.
"Great. So, no pumpkin spiced lattes?"
"It's not fall."
An announcement for their plane had them getting ready to go again, Eddie helping Charlie and Steve collecting their stuff together. He was surprised Charlie stood so patiently in line to get on the plane, but her curiosity seemed to win out over boredom.
Finally seated, Charlie by the window, it was all Eddie could do not to fall asleep immediately. They had made it to the plane in one piece. He'd forgotten how exhausting traveling could be. But at least he got treated to the sight of Steve's exposed stomach when he stretched to put their luggage in the rack. Worth it.
Steve gave him a knowing look as he sat down. "We're in public."
"Don't be so tempting then."
Laughing, he leaned in to kiss Eddie, breaking away far too quickly when Charlie tugged on his hand. "Mmm? Don't want me kissing your daddy?"
"No, that's fine. But when do we leave?"
"Soon, I think."
"Very soon," Eddie agreed, pointing out the stewardess closing the doors. "You belted in okay?" Once he was satisfied she was safe, he got his belt sorted, trusting Steve was capable with his own.
Charlie looked out the window, eyes wide in amazement, when the plane started to roll forward. "Oh, it's so fast."
"Just wait until we start flying," Steve told her, and he pulled a bag of candy from his pocket, offering her a sucker before dropping one in Eddie's lap. "Here, it'll help with your ears."
Eddie popped it into his mouth, winking at Charlie. "Mr Steve knows best."
She nodded and copied him, lips pursed as she sucked on the candy. Despite his familiarity with travel sickness, Eddie forced himself to keep his eyes open to watch Charlie. She gripped his hand tight during the takeoff, face scrunched up from the force of it, but as soon as they leveled out, she was back to staring out of the window in amazement.
"Has she ever left Chicago?" Steve asked softly.
"Only to see Wayne. You remember the first time you flew?"
"Nope. I was about six months old. Honestly, it felt like I didn't have a home for the longest time until my parents started leaving me behind for school. Suppose it was never really home, though, just me and whatever nanny they had hired." Steve shrugged like it was no big deal, but Eddie could see the truth in his eyes, the lingering pain there. Abandonment issues were easily recognizable to someone with their own. "Guess it got better once I graduated, and I went with them again. Always flying. What about you?"
"First time I flew was to LA, actually. For our record deal." Eddie smiled, remembering that flight fondly. "The poor stewards had to put up with our excitable asses for a whole flight. Not an easy task with Ronnie about."
"Ronnie?"
"Yeah. She was my best friend. We grew up in the same trailer park."
"Why haven't you mentioned her before?"
"We… had a falling out." Eddie still wasn't sure how she would react to seeing him again after all these years, but the guys had been supportive. Jeff, in particular, had told him not to worry about it. He still felt guilty about everything that had happened and cutting her out when he left. When Steve touched his hand, he forced himself to smile. "I cut the band off when I found out about Charlie. Didn't speak to any of them for a long time. It was Jeff who reached out to me when she was about two, and the others followed him. But not Ronnie. She's stubborn like me. Probably wants me to grovel at her feet first."
"But she will forgive you?"
"I hope so. That's why Charlie is here. She won't be able to resist her." Eddie ruffled Charlie's hair, bringing her away from the window to their conversation. "Jeff found us a place to stay, and we'll see the band in a couple of days. Did I tell you about the pool?"
"No." Charlie scowled at him, but it didn't mask her excitement. "We have a pool?!"
"Yep. But you're not allowed to swim unless me or Steve is there, understood?"
"He's right," Steve agreed when Charlie looked at him pleadingly. "Better to be safe than sorry."
"I can swim." Charlie pouted and ignored them, looking out of the window again.
Steve caught Eddie's eye with a grin. Elbowing him before he could laugh, Eddie pressed his lips together and sighed. The plane rocked slightly with turbulence, and he closed his eyes, trying not to groan. Steve's hand was against his forehead in seconds, his voice quiet and reassuring, if a little teasing. "For someone who has toured, you don't travel well."
"It was a North American tour, thank you. We weren't world famous yet." Thank god he didn't do the second tour or any of the others, flying sucked.
"We could have drove."
But Charlie's delighted gasp at seeing mountains made it all worthwhile. Eddie could put up with nausea to make his babygirl happy. "Maybe next time. She's never been on a road trip either."
"Thirty hours on the road? Think we'll survive that?"
Eddie cracked his eyes open to smile at Steve, grabbing the hand still against his face to kiss and hold. "I think we can survive anything, Princess. Now shut up and let me rest."
The flight passed in a doze, and he was only woken up when Steve asked if he wanted something to eat or a drink. He didn't, but Charlie eagerly ordered a hot chocolate. Steve switched seats with Eddie to ensure she didn't spill it everywhere.
It was busier in LAX compared to Chicago, so Eddie kept a tight hold on Charlie's hand, refusing to let go even when she wanted to stop and look at the shops. "We have plenty of time for that later. Let's get to the house first and rest."
Eddie had the address ready for the cab, and thankfully, it didn't take long to get there. Standing outside with their luggage, they got a first look at their new home for the following months. The house was beautiful, two stories and right on the edge of the city. Jeff had outdone himself with this one.
Charlie ran inside, her laughter echoing. "It has stairs! Is this all ours?"
"Yep. Check out back."
Steve smiled as she ran off, tugging Eddie closer. "We owe Jeff for this."
"I know. How about a nice cake?"
This time, it was Steve's laughter filling the room. He leaned in close to whisper against Eddie's lips, "Take me shopping, and I can get something sweet for you, too."
"Oh, yeah?"
"Mhmm."
Definitely interested in where the conversation was going, Eddie wrapped his arms around Steve to pull their bodies flush together. The soft chuckle he got in response let him know his intentions weren't at all subtle. "I wanna fuck you on every surface in this house."
"Later, Rockstar. Right now, there's a six-year-old about to drown herself out back."
"Shit." Eddie quickly let him go to stop Charlie from jumping in the pool, clothes and all.
She was not happy about the interruption but was soon distracted by picking out her room. It didn't take long for her to crash after unpacking, and Eddie carefully tucked her in and closed the curtains.
Downstairs, Steve was acquainting himself with the kitchen, and he looked happy, turning to smile at Eddie. "This place is amazing. We even have a bread maker!"
"Fresh bread?" Eddie perked up immediately.
"We need to go to the shops first."
"Later, Charlie's asleep."
Steve shrugged, expression becoming playful. "How long do we have?"
The things that face did to Eddie's body should be illegal. Already, he could feel a surge of adrenaline making his nerves light up. He swallowed thickly, trying to act casual, but his voice was already thick with arousal when he spoke, "Anything you want."
"You did say you wanted to fuck me on every surface. Does the pool count?" Steve pulled his sweater and shirt off in one smooth move, tossing the clothes to Eddie, and he caught them numbly. He started on his belt, watching Eddie in amusement. "I'm taking that as a yes."
His jeans soon joined the pile, followed by his socks and underwear, and Eddie had the perfect view of Steve's ass when he walked outside, not sparing him a second glance. It took maybe two seconds for Eddie to drop everything and strip, tripping over an ottoman on his way outside, but he managed to regain himself and walk to the edge of the pool as if nothing had happened.
Steve was already swimming, and his hair looked fucking styled. It was so unfair because Eddie knew his hair was going to frizz. Eddie's mouth went dry when Steve stood up, and laughed at his expression. Smoothing his wet hair back with a smile, he leaned on the pool's edge and looked up at Eddie with a casual smugness that drove him insane. "Well? Are you getting in here or not?"
Not wasting another second, Eddie jumped in beside him, surfacing to Steve's laughter. He grinned back, pulling Steve close to kiss him hotly and trapped him against the side of the pool. "You're gorgeous," he mumbled, running his fingers through Steve's chest hair to make it curl. Seeing his guitar pick nestled there only made him a little smug. "Fuck, you could be a model. Let me take a picture later?"
"I'm putting my trunks on first."
"Ruin it."
"Shut up and kiss me again." Steve tasted like chlorine and hot chocolate. Evidently, he had shared with Charlie.
He was already worked up, groaning into Steve's mouth when his hand wrapped around his cock. "Fuck, Princess, might wanna slow down."
"Not a chance." His thumb worked over the head of Eddie's cock, making him feel lightheaded with how fast his blood rushed south. "Sit on the side."
Eddie did, shivering in the breeze, but it was soon forgotten when Steve's mouth was on him. It was heaven, and Eddie groaned, head tipping back as his fingers wound into Steve's wet hair. Steve's throat relaxed, and he slipped further into that silken heat. It was a special kind of power that Eddie held over him. Complete control that made his stomach swoop with the level of trust he was given and shown when Steve's eyes flickered up to look at him, hazy with lust and detachment. He was already slipping away.
His eyes closed with Eddie's first thrust, a hum vibrating around him and bringing him dangerously close to the edge. "So pretty," Eddie breathed, smoothing his thumb over Steve's swollen bottom lip. "Gonna wreck that pretty mouth, though, aren't I?"
Steve did his best to nod, hands snaking up to wrap around Eddie's thighs and pull him impossibly closer. A soft, almost inaudible whine escaped him, making Eddie's reason slip another notch. He didn't want to hurt Steve, not really, but he loved fucking his throat raw, so his voice turned raspy, and his face was stained with tears. Even the thought made his cock twitch.
"Ready?" He asked, his voice slightly shaky, but his grip on Steve was firm. He felt Steve nod and, with one last tender swipe of his thumb, buried himself as deep as possible in Steve's throat. Yep. Total bliss.
And Steve was such a pretty sight, lips stretched around his cock and buried in his pelvis. Eddie wondered briefly how hard Steve was, regretting his choice to stay in the pool, but that could be changed later. For now, he dragged Steve back until only the head of his cock was nestled in his mouth. He took one last moment to admire the sight before his hips snapped forwards, fucking back into Steve's mouth.
It didn't take long for Steve to start crying, the tears mixing with the drool spilling down his chin. Maybe Eddie could take a picture of that next time. God, he wished he could draw so he could recreate these moments to keep forever.
Because he never lasted long when Steve gave him control like this, his orgasm winding up fast. "Steve, baby, I'm gonna cum. You wanna pull off?"
Steve tapped his leg three times. No.
He really was perfect.
Eddie's orgasm hit him hard, leaving him breathless and spilling down Steve's throat with a long groan, grip so tight it left Steve nowhere to go. Doubtful Steve would have pulled off anyway, and he only lifted his head when Eddie's fingers went slack, breathless too but smiling. Eddie was forced onto his back when Steve climbed out of the pool and onto his lap to kiss him fiercely.
He was hard, hips rolling forward to rub his cock between them, and the friction was enough to make him moan in Eddie's mouth, hips working harder. "Fuck, Eddie, so close. Need you to touch me."
Slipping a hand between them, he'd barely gotten it wrapped around Steve's cock before his body seized up, shaking through his orgasm. He kissed Steve's shoulder, holding him through it until his body went lax, fully leaning into him. When their breathing slowed, Eddie nipped Steve's shoulder and whispered, "One room down."
He laughed, shoving Eddie weakly. "This isn't a room."
"Still counts."
Steve didn't argue further, just kissed him again but softly this time. He still tasted like hot chocolate and chlorine, but now he tasted like Eddie, too, making pride swell in his chest. When they broke apart, Steve scoffed. "Don't look so smug." He got unsteadily to his feet, hauling Eddie up. "I need to find my toothbrush."
"Maybe some clothes?" Eddie suggested innocently, but he couldn't help swatting Steve's ass on the way inside.
Later, taking a nap together in the warm sunlight and still smelling of chlorine, Eddie felt truly happy.
He could get used to this kind of life.
