BadReader - **Dont worry about all the OCs**, many of them will not have much presence in the near story. Unfortunately, the real fire temple does not have a city around it... so i took some creative liberties and had some fun creating my own characters and clans.
A large grouch i have with a lot of fanfics etc is that the shinobi wars always seem to have so few shinobi, and the extra city and characters created around that are just my rebellion against that.
There will be a focus on actual characters, when it actually makes sense for them to be anywhere near fire temple... or for Ushinatta to be anywhere near them.
ThousandDaysOfLaziness - thanks :)
Uvu - The character is not a monk per say, just raised by them, so whilst it will have some impact on the character, i still wanted them to be a shinobi. Sage of six paths can perhaps be a goal, but the character will have to become strong for that... and that will take a while. Never mind needed to progress through cannon (ish) timeline before that can happen in my mind.

The late afternoon sun beat down on the dusty training ground, turning the air thick and heavy. Akari, a whirlwind of mismatched colours, fanned herself impatiently with a worn scroll. Her mismatched eyes, one brown and one green, darted around restlessly, searching for any sign of their sensei. Beside her, Kaia Kuroyuri sat perfectly still, a stark contrast to Akari's frenetic energy. Her dark clothes, practical for both swordsmanship and stealth, blended seamlessly with the shadows cast by the nearby buildings. Her raven hair, usually kept in a sleek braid that flowed down her back, had escaped its confines, a few strands framing her pale face. Her sharp, almost predatory features were offset by eyes that shimmered like obsidian pools, reflecting both intensity and an unnerving calm.
I, sat opposite them, the silence pressing down on me. Unlike Akari's lack of armour, I wore several layers beneath my modified monk robes. While the robes still held a semblance to early life, they were lighter and less restrictive, allowing for greater freedom of movement. My constitution has always been weak, even with the seal... it's best that i ensure i can take a couple hits. Despite the heat, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in my gut ever since we were told to assemble here for our sensei assignment.
Akari finally broke the stifling silence. "Do you think they'll be late?" she whined, her voice laced with boredom.
Kaia, her gaze fixed on a distant point, simply shook her head, her lips remaining firmly shut.
I cleared my throat, the sound echoing in the empty training ground. "It wouldn't be respectful to speculate, Akari."
"Respectful? We've been waiting here for ages!" she huffed. "I could have practiced my taijutsu by now."
I sighed inwardly. Akari's boundless energy was both admirable and exhausting. Her talent with taijutsu was undeniable, but her impulsiveness often overshadowed her skills. Kaia, on the other hand, remained an enigma. Introduced only at the very end of our academy days, she was a mystery wrapped in a shadow. She spoke little, and honestly, I'm surprised she joined me and Akari, we didn't make many friends in our time there.
As if sensing my thoughts, Kaia spoke for the first time, her voice low and raspy. "They will arrive when they see fit."
Her words held a conviction that silenced Akari's complaints. A tense silence settled once again, broken only by the distant sounds of the bustling city beyond the training ground. Minutes bled into what felt like hours, the sun slowly sinking towards the horizon. Just as frustration began to gnaw at me, a figure emerged from the shadows cast by the nearby buildings.
"Team 14?" she asked, her voice gruff and commanding.
Akari, ever the eager one, jumped to her feet. "That's us! We've been waiting for you, sensei!"
The woman gave a curt nod. "I am Chunnin Shizuka. From this day forward, I will be your sensei."
Shizuka's utilitarian flak jacket, faded to a dusty brown from years of wear, bore the scars of countless missions. Beneath it, she wore a dark mesh armor that clung to her lean frame. A worn leather belt, secured around her waist, held several pouches in varying sizes for carrying essential tools and supplies. A well-maintained katana, its hilt wrapped in worn black leather, hung at her hip, its scabbard a simple, unadorned black. A smaller tanto, its blade gleaming faintly in the fading light, was sheathed in a similar scabbard on her back. Her gaze, sharp and assessing, hinted at a wealth of experience and a no-nonsense attitude that promised challenging yet valuable lessons for her new genin team.
"Hai Sensei" We chorused together
Shizuka's gaze swept over her new team once more, her lips pursed in a thin line. "Alright, genin. Let's get acquainted. I want each of you to introduce yourselves. State your name, what you like, what you dislike, and finally, your dream for the future."
Her voice held no room for argument, her authority clear. Akari, bouncing on the balls of her feet, was practically vibrating with excitement. Kaia, her expression unreadable, remained silent, her gaze fixed on Shizuka. I took a deep breath, the weight of her stare settling on me. It was time to begin.
Kaia remained impassive under Shizuka's scrutiny. A beat of silence stretched between them, the tension thick enough to cut with a kunai. Finally, Kaia spoke, her voice as sharp and controlled as the glint in her obsidian eyes.
"Kaia Kuroyuri," she stated, her words clipped and precise. "I find satisfaction in the elegance of the blade. Disrespect and hesitation are my most despised qualities. My dream," she paused, the word hanging heavy in the air, "is to become a master swordsman, with my name known throughout the shinobi world." As she finished, her gaze flicked towards me for a brief moment, a flicker of something unreadable passing through her eyes before she turned her attention back to Shizuka.
Guess it's my turn. "Ushinatta, I enjoy fuinjutsu, tea and the pursuit of knowledge. I hate undue cruelty. My dream is to become a fuinjutsu master" Shizuka's lips remained pursed, but a flicker of something, perhaps curiosity, seemed to flicker in her gaze.
Akari, barely able to contain her excitement, practically bounced as Shizuka's gaze landed on her. "Akari! I love a good challenge, pushing my limits, and the thrill of a close fight! Can't stand know-it-alls, waiting around, and losing!" she declared in a rush, her mismatched eyes sparkling. "And my dream? To become the strongest kunoichi in the land of fire, respected for my skills and my never-give-up spirit!"
Her words tumbled out in a torrent of enthusiasm, a stark contrast to the composed demeanours of Kaia and myself. Yet, despite her unfiltered energy, an underlying determination shone through her vibrant personality.
Shizuka's gaze lingered on Akari for a moment, a ghost of a smile playing on her lips before she turned her attention back to the group as a whole. With a practiced flick of her wrist, she unfurled a scroll sealed with intricate markings. Placing her thumb against the seal, a faint blue light pulsed before dissipating, revealing several documents within. Her brow furrowed slightly as she scanned the contents, her lips moving silently as she read. The silence stretched, the tension thickening once more as we waited with bated breath for her next words.
Finally, Shizuka cleared her throat, her voice taking on a more business-like tone. "Akari," she said, her eyes fixed on the document in her hand. "Your file paints a picture of a spirited individual, boundless energy and a natural talent for taijutsu. However, it also mentions a tendency towards impulsiveness and a lack of strategic thinking."
Akari shifted uncomfortably on her feet, her eyes widening slightly. "I'm working on that, sensei!" she interjected, her voice laced with a hint of defensiveness.
Shizuka raised an eyebrow, unfazed by Akari's outburst. "We all have areas for improvement, genin," she replied. "The point of this exercise is to identify your strengths and weaknesses so we can work together to hone your skills."
She turned her attention back to the document, her gaze scanning down the page before speaking again. "Your file also mentions a strong sense of camaraderie and a fierce loyalty to your friends. These are valuable qualities in a ninja, Akari. However, remember, loyalty is not blind obedience. A true ninja must learn to discern the right path, even when it means challenging authority."
Akari's expression softened slightly, a flicker of understanding crossing her features. Shizuka nodded once, seeming satisfied with her response, before moving on to the next document, her gaze settling on Kaia.
Shizuka nodded once, seeming satisfied with Akari's response, before moving on to the next document, her gaze settling on Kaia. "Kaia," she began, her voice firm, "your file paints a different picture. Your exceptional talent with the blade is undeniable, and your focus and dedication are commendable. However, there is also a concerning undercurrent of…" she paused, her eyes narrowing as she scanned the document further, "ruthlessness."
Kaia remained impassive, her face betraying no emotion. "Efficiency, sensei," she corrected coolly.
Shizuka met her gaze unflinchingly. "Efficiency can be a valuable tool," she conceded, "but it must never come at the cost of your humanity. Remember, Kaia, a ninja's primary objective is to complete the mission. However, prioritizing success over the lives of your comrades is a path that leads only to darkness. True strength lies not just in power, but in compassion and the ability to discern the right course, even when emotions run high."
Kaia's eyes flickered for a brief moment, but her expression remained stoic. She offered no response, choosing to absorb Shizuka's words in silence. Her sensei's warning hung in the air. Shizuka, satisfied that her point was made, turned her attention to the final document, her gaze landing on Ushinatta.
A heavy sigh escaped Shizuka's lips as she unfurled the scroll containing Ushinatta's file. Unlike the others, which were mere single sheets, this one was a hefty tome, easily ten times the size of its counterparts. Her brow furrowed deeply as she began to scan the document, her lips moving silently as she processed the sheer volume of information.
Minutes ticked by in tense silence as Shizuka meticulously navigated the file, occasionally stopping to reread certain passages or consult additional notes scribbled in the margins. The weight of anticipation hung heavy in the air, both Akari and Kaia stealing curious glances at the document and their new teammate.
Finally, Shizuka closed the file with a snap, her expression unreadable. "Ushinatta," she began, her voice thoughtful, "your file… presents a unique challenge. It outlines an unconventional upbringing within the Fire Temple, with knowledge in chakra control and sealing techniques, and… well, let's just say your physical limitations are well-documented." Shizuka's gaze swept over my layered robes and the faint outlines of armor beneath. Her voice softened slightly, a hint of understanding entering her tone. "It seems your path to becoming a genin has been anything but ordinary."
I met her gaze, my heart pounding a steady rhythm in my chest. "That's… an understatement, sensei," I admitted, my voice surprisingly steady despite the whirlwind of emotions swirling within me.
"Indeed," she murmured, flipping through the file once more. "However, your determination and innovative approach to utilizing your strengths are also noted. They paint a picture of a resourceful individual, one who doesn't shy away from unconventional solutions."
A flicker of hope ignited in my heart. Despite the potential difficulties my background and physical limitations might pose, it seemed Shizuka was willing to see beyond them.
"I understand your file raises several questions," she continued, her gaze unwavering. "However, rest assured, I will not be making any judgements based solely on the past. My responsibility is to assess your present capabilities and develop your potential as a ninja, regardless of your origins."
"Ushinatta," she began, her voice turning sharp, "your file mentions several unorthodox seals you created during your academy years. Tell me, can you elaborate on these creations?"
I swallowed hard, taking a deep breath to steady myself. "Yes, sensei," I replied, my voice firm despite the weight of her gaze. "One of them is a sensory seal. It allows me to detect chakra signatures within a radius of fifty meters, but there are limitations-"
Shizuka held up a hand, silencing me. "Limitations? Explain."
"I need to be stationary while using it, and it requires a constant flow of chakra to maintain its function," I explained, pushing past the nervousness that threatened to bubble up.
Shizuka's expression remained unreadable. She nodded curtly, prompting me to continue.
"The other creation," I continued, "is a modification of the standard explosive tag. I managed to decrease the size and increase the detonation speed, making them more versatile and compact."
A flicker of interest crossed Shizuka's eyes. "Interesting. Can you demonstrate their functionalities?"
Demonstrating my creations meant revealing them in their entirety, a prospect that both excited and unnerved me. However, I knew that hesitation wouldn't earn me her respect.
"Of course, sensei," I replied, my voice laced with determination.
Shizuka watched intently as I demonstrated, her gaze shifting between the seals and my movements. When the final echo of the modified explosive tag faded, she remained silent for several moments, a thoughtful frown creasing her brow.
Finally, she spoke, "Ushinatta, these seals you've created… they show remarkable ingenuity. Frankly, I'm surprised they weren't flagged for further development by your instructors."
A surge of pride mixed with a touch of vindication warmed my chest. Shizuka's praise, though measured, felt like a balm against the years of subtle dismissals and assumptions I had endured.
"You should strongly consider submitting these creations to Konoha's Research and Development division," Shizuka continued, her eyes glinting with something akin to respect. "With further refinement, your sensory seal could be a valuable asset to reconnaissance units, and these modified explosive tags… well, any weapon developments should be submitted to say the least."
My stomach churned at the thought of my creations being used broadly by the shinobi forces. It was both exhilarating and deeply unsettling. "Sensei, before anyone considers using them," I began hesitantly, "I believe I need to develop a means of encryption. I wouldn't want these seals to fall into the wrong hands and be turned against Konoha."
Shizuka's brow furrowed slightly. "You're thinking ahead, that's commendable. However, don't let fear of misuse stifle innovation. Encryption can be added later. Your primary focus should be on demonstrating the functionality and potential applications of your creations. Leave the strategic concerns to the higher ranks."
Shizuka adjusted her flak jacket, her voice turning crisp as she addressed all three of us. "Now, listen up, genin. The first few months of your genin career will be focused on building teamwork, honing your individual skills, and learning the fundamentals of operating as a cohesive unit."
Her gaze swept across our faces, lingering for a moment on each of us. "I won't be leading your missions just yet. That privilege is reserved for C rank missions and above. However, you will be completing D-rank missions as a group."
A flicker of disappointment crossed Akari's face, quickly replaced by determination. Kaia remained impassive, her expression unreadable.
"Each of you will have the opportunity to lead a D-rank mission as the acting squad leader," Shizuka continued, her voice leaving no room for argument. "This will allow you to develop your leadership skills and gain first-hand experience in making tactical decisions."
She held up a finger, silencing any potential questions. "In addition to your missions, you will be required to participate in a minimum of two hours of focused training each day. This training can be individual or as a team, depending on the specific needs and goals you identify."
A low groan escaped Akari's lips, but Shizuka ignored it. "Furthermore, you will be required to submit a weekly report detailing all your activities, including mission summaries, training logs, and any challenges or successes you encounter."
Her gaze met mine, her eyes sharp and unwavering. "This is not just a formality. These reports are crucial for me to assess your progress, identify areas for improvement, and tailor your training accordingly."
I nodded, understanding the importance of her words. While I wasn't thrilled about the additional paperwork, I recognized the value in having a structured system for tracking our development and receiving personalized guidance from our sensei.
"Remember, genin," Shizuka concluded, her voice echoing through the training ground, "your journey as ninjas has just begun. Embrace the challenges, learn from your mistakes, and never stop striving to improve. Now, dismiss yourselves. I expect to see you all bright and early tomorrow, ready for your first training session."
As I turned to leave -
"Ushinatta," she said finally, her voice low and measured. "Your file mentions… limitations in your physical capabilities."
"Yes, sensei," i acknowledged, "My body… it isn't suited for the rigors of traditional combat."
Shizuka's expression remained neutral, giving away no hint of judgment. "And yet, you've found ways to compensate," she observed, gesturing towards the seals strapped to my leg. "These creations… they demonstrate a keen mind. Qualities that can be just as valuable, if not more so, than brute strength on the battlefield."
"However," she continued, her voice firm, "ignoring your physical limitations would be a grave mistake. A ninja needs to be adaptable, to operate effectively in diverse situations. While your intellect and ingenuity are commendable, they cannot replace a solid foundation of physical prowess."
"I understand, sensei," I replied.
[oOoOo]
The crisp morning air sent a refreshing chill down Ushinatta's spine as he stood alongside his teammates, Akari and Kaia, facing their sensei, the ever-observant Chunin, Shizuka. This was their first official training session as Team 14, a moment both exhilarating and nerve-wracking.
Shizuka, her short brown hair pulled back in a practical bun, scanned them with her sharp blue eyes, exuding an aura of quiet competence. "Today, we assess your current skills and teamwork," she announced in her calm, yet firm voice. "You will face me, one-on-one, demonstrating your individual strengths and your ability to adapt in a dynamic environment."
Akari, bold and brimming with confidence, surged forward, her fiery red hair mirroring her energetic spirit. She launched into a series of acrobatic manoeuvres and lightning-fast strikes, her taijutsu honed to precision. Shizuka, however, remained composed, anticipating each movement with practiced ease, effortlessly deflecting or countering Akari's attacks.
As Akari's initial burst of energy waned, Shizuka seized the opportunity. With a swift movement, Shizuka ducked under a wild haymaker from Akari, her dark ponytail brushing past Akari's ear in a blur. Utilizing the momentum, Shizuka launched a spinning heel kick, aiming for Akari's unguarded side. Akari, sensing the danger, twisted her torso at the last moment, deflecting the blow with her forearm. The impact sent a jolt of pain through Akari's arm, but her quick reflexes saved her from a direct hit.
Undeterred, Akari retaliated with a flying side kick, aiming for Shizuka's temple. Shizuka, anticipating the attack, dropped to a low crouch, the kick sailing harmlessly over her head. As Akari landed, Shizuka capitalized on the opening with a sweeping leg takedown. Akari attempted to counter with a mid-air flip, but Shizuka, with a well-timed arm extension, disrupted Akari's balance, sending her crashing onto the training ground with a thud.
Ushinatta watched intently, his mind a whirlwind of analysis. Akari's strength lay in her agility and ferocity, but Shizuka's superior experience and strategic thinking allowed her to neutralize the offensive. As Akari's initial burst of energy waned, Shizuka seized the opportunity, utilizing a well-timed leg sweep to disarm her.
"Good effort, Akari," Shizuka acknowledged, her voice laced with encouragement. "Remember, raw power is effective, but control and calculated strategy are vital in any engagement. Observe." She gestured towards Kaia.
Kaia, as ever, remained the picture of stoicism as she faced Shizuka across the training ground. Unlike Akari's fiery approach, Kaia embodied a calm and calculating presence, her sharp blue eyes scanning Shizuka with unwavering focus. In her hand, she held a pair of finely crafted shuriken.
Shizuka, ever the perceptive teacher, acknowledged Kaia's unique approach. "A different strategy today, Kaia," she stated, her voice neutral. "Tell me your reasoning."
Kaia, never one for unnecessary words, simply pointed to her shuriken, then back at Shizuka, a silent challenge. Understanding dawned on Shizuka's face. This wasn't just a test of taijutsu; Kaia was aiming to showcase her proficiency in long-range combat and force Shizuka to adapt.
Shizuka, with a subtle nod, initiated the spar. She launched into a series of swift, deceptive manoeuvres, testing Kaia's reflexes and ability to predict her movements. Kaia, undeterred, remained rooted in her spot, her eyes glued to Shizuka's every twitch. Just as Shizuka closed the distance, Kaia unleashed a perfectly timed throw, one of her shuriken spinning through the air with a deadly hum.
Shizuka, anticipating the attack, easily deflected the shuriken with a well-timed flick of her wrist. The shuriken clattered harmlessly to the ground, but the brief distraction served its purpose. Kaia, seizing the momentary opening, launched herself forward in a blur, her remaining shuriken held tight in her hand.
Their movements became a whirlwind. Kaia, utilizing her agility and precise strikes, aimed for pressure points on Shizuka's body, her aim not to overpower, but to limit movement. Shizuka, however, displayed her years of experience, effortlessly parrying or dodging most attempts with a grace born of countless battles.
The fight unfolded like a silent dance, punctuated by the occasional clang of metal as Shizuka deflected one of Kaia's strikes. It was a strategic battle, a testament to their contrasting styles. Kaia, precise and methodical, sought to exploit weaknesses, while Shizuka, with her superior experience and adaptability, countered each move with calculated precision.
As the fight progressed, Kaia noticed a subtle shift in Shizuka's movements. Her initial focus on defence seemed to evolve into a more offensive approach. Shizuka, recognizing the limitations of purely defensive tactics against Kaia's relentless pressure point attacks, began incorporating subtle feints and misdirection's into her movements.
Sensing this change, Kaia adjusted her strategy. She swapped her offensive tactics for defensive manoeuvres, focusing on maintaining distance and utilizing her exceptional reflexes to evade Shizuka's attacks. The dance continued, the roles seemingly reversed.
The spar continued for several minutes, both combatants pushing their limits. Yet, it became increasingly clear that Shizuka, despite Kaia's impressive display of skill, possessed a clear advantage in terms of raw power and stamina. As the spar neared its end, Shizuka capitalized on a slight opening created by Kaia's momentary fatigue.
With a swift movement, Shizuka closed the distance and launched a powerful side kick, aiming for Kaia's midsection. Kaia, despite her best efforts, was unable to fully evade the blow. The impact sent a jolt of pain through her side, forcing her to stumble back and momentarily lose her breath.
Seizing this opportunity, Shizuka delivered a final, decisive strike, a focused blow to Kaia's wrist, disarming her of her remaining shuriken. The spar ended with Kaia kneeling on one knee, her hand instinctively cradling her injured side, her head slightly bowed in acknowledgement of Shizuka's superior skill.
Shizuka, ever the stoic figure, offered a hand to help Kaia rise. "Well fought, Kaia," she acknowledged, her voice tinged with respect. "Your understanding of pressure points and long-range combat is impressive. Remember, however, that strategy and adaptability are crucial even against the strongest opponents." Kaia, accepting Shizuka's help, nodded silently, her face a mask of her emotions.
Shizuka's gaze, sharp and assessing, settled upon him. "Ready, Ushinatta?" she inquired, her voice calm and neutral.
Ushinatta, his voice barely a whisper, replied, "Yes, Sensei."
The moment the spar began, Shizuka launched into a controlled assault, testing Ushinatta's reflexes and defensive capabilities. Unlike Akari, who met her attacks head-on, and Kaia, who utilized evasive manoeuvres, Ushinatta relied on a mixture of desperate blocks and frantic backpedalling. He lacked the physical prowess to match Shizuka's strength, and his attempts at offensive strikes felt sluggish and ineffective.
Shizuka, seemingly toying with him, easily parried his clumsy attempts, her movements flowing with practiced ease. Ushinatta felt a wave of panic rising within him as he struggled to keep up with her relentless assault. He stumbled back repeatedly, his breath coming in ragged gasps. Despite his tactical mind, the pressure of the spar and the disparity in their abilities left him feeling overwhelmed and outmatched.
Seeing an opening, Shizuka lunged forward, aiming a swift kick towards Ushinatta's chest. In a desperate attempt to block, Ushinatta raised his forearm, but the impact sent him reeling backward. He landed hard on the ground, the wind knocked out of his lungs as pain lanced through his arm.
Shizuka stood over him, her expression unreadable. "Ushinatta," she spoke, her voice laced with concern, "Remember, fighting isn't just about offense; it's about defence, strategy, and adapting to your opponent. Analyse your weaknesses and learn from them."
"Gather around, team," she instructed, her voice firm yet laced with an underlying warmth. They complied, standing before her in respectful silence.
"As your new sensei, it's imperative for me to understand your individual strengths and areas for improvement," Shizuka explained. "To that end, I'd like each of you to prepare a report outlining your preferred training style and the techniques you aim to focus on."
Akari raised an eyebrow. "But Sensei," she interjected, "we haven't even had a proper training session yet! How can we know what to focus on?"
Shizuka smiled patiently. "While this is true, you've demonstrated your unique strengths and approaches during our initial assessments today. Reflecting on these experiences and outlining your goals will not only benefit me in shaping your individual training but also help you solidify your strategic thinking and self-awareness as budding ninjas."
Kaia, her expression ever stoic, nodded in understanding. Ushinatta, however, seemed lost in thought, a finger tapping his chin as he contemplated the task.
"Are there any specific areas you'd like us to focus on in the report?" Ushinatta inquired, voicing the question lingering in the air.
Shizuka tilted her head thoughtfully. "While your preferred training style and chosen techniques are the core elements, I also encourage you to consider your weaknesses and how you plan to address them. Additionally, feel free to include any specific areas within ninjutsu or taijutsu that you find particularly intriguing and wish to explore further."
Akari's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Can we include ideas for new techniques we'd like to learn?"
A chuckle escaped Shizuka's lips. "While I cannot guarantee I can teach you everything you dream up, Akari," she said, "I am always open to hearing new ideas. Creativity and resourcefulness are valuable assets for any ninja, and fostering those qualities is part of what I aim to achieve in your training."
With a final nod, Shizuka dismissed her team, leaving them to contemplate their training plans and the self-evaluation that awaited them.
[oOoOo]
Two hours of standard physical training, as Shizuka had outlined, wouldn't be enough. While I wouldn't shy away from pushing myself physically, I knew I needed a different approach, a fighting style that capitalized on my strengths and compensated for my weaknesses.
I closed my eyes and focused. My mind raced, replaying Shizuka's words, my own limitations, and the glimpses I had seen of Akari's taijutsu prowess and Kaia's deadly elegance with the blade.
The answer, I realized, wouldn't lie in mimicking them. My path had to be unique, a blend of my intellect, strategic thinking, and the unconventional skills I had honed throughout my years.
The first and most pressing task, I realized with a sinking feeling, was to address my physical shortcomings. My spar against Shizuka had been a humiliating display of inadequacy. While my mind raced with strategies, my body simply couldn't keep up. It was a stark reminder, a brutal truth laid bare on the training ground – a ninja's mind needed a capable body to execute its plans.
Shame stung my cheeks, but beneath it, a spark of determination ignited. I wouldn't let my shortcomings define me. I would train, harder than ever before. I'd push myself past exhaustion, honing my reflexes, building my strength, and improving my endurance. Every drop of sweat, every groan of exertion, would be a step towards bridging the gap between my mind and my body.
Secondly, I needed to embrace my knowledge of seals. While not meant for direct combat, their potential applications were vast. I could create seals to enhance my agility, speed, or even create defensive barriers. The possibilities were endless, limited only by my imagination and ingenuity.
Finally, I couldn't ignore the reality of close-quarters combat. While I wouldn't become a master taijutsu practitioner overnight, learning basic self-defence techniques was crucial. I could focus on pressure points, joint locks, and evasive manoeuvres, minimizing the need for raw strength and maximizing efficiency.
But, for tonight I'm going to focus on the 'easy' path.
The stale scent of parchment and ink permeated the air as I hunched over my workspace. Papers and scrolls sprawled across the table, remnants of the night spent consumed by the complexities of my project – a seal that mimicked the destructive power of real-world fragmentation grenades, but reimagined within the realm of fuinjutsu.
The core of the design, the "fragmentation seal" as I envisioned it, drew inspiration from the explosive and fragmentation components of conventional grenades. My goal was to translate their destructive power into the realm of ninjutsu, using chakra as the fuel and seals as the trigger.
At the heart of the seal lay the familiar explosion seal, its intricate patterns etched onto a sturdy piece of parchment. This core component remained unchanged, responsible for channelling chakra and igniting the explosive payload. However, the surrounding area would hold the key to innovation.
Carefully, I unfolded a smaller scroll adorned with the intricate markings of a storage seal. But unlike a conventional storage seal, this one would not hold an object. Instead, it would contain a meticulously prepared pouch filled with finely-cut steel scraps. Upon activation, the storage seal would release these steel fragments, transforming them into deadly projectiles.
The final piece of the puzzle lay in a series of timing seals, strategically placed around the core and storage seals. These seals, when activated in a precise sequence, would trigger the explosion seal, slightly after releasing the stored steel fragments, propelling them to extreme speeds in every direction, mimicking the shrapnel blast of a real-world grenade.
The crux of the matter lay in ensuring the timing sequence was flawless and the steel fragments were precisely cut and distributed within the storage seal. A single misplaced stroke or miscalculation could result in a malfunction or even a backfire, potentially causing harm to myself or anyone nearby.
The final stroke etched onto the seal, a sense of accomplishment welled within me. This "fragmentation seal," as I envisioned it, held the potential to be a game-changer, translating the destructive power of a grenade into the realm of ninjutsu. But the journey wasn't over, it still needed testing.
With a deep breath, I channelled my chakra into the seal. I aimed towards the designated testing area - a clearing marked with discarded practice dummies and metallic sheets.
A deafening crack shattered the night's stillness, This crack, sharp and unexpected, seemed to split the very air itself. No flames erupted, no smoke billowed. A storm of steel fragments, propelled by the loud explosion, ripped through the testing area with a ferocity that sent shivers down my spine. The reinforced metal sheets, designed to withstand significant punishment, buckled and contorted under the onslaught, their metallic screams adding to the cacophony of the moment.
I watched, transfixed, as the dummies weren't simply tossed aside or ripped apart. The shrapnel, imbued with deadly momentum, carved through them with horrifying ease. Stuffing sprayed like crimson snow, wooden limbs snapped and splintered, and the training dummies, once meant to simulate human combatants, were reduced to mere shredded husks in the blink of an eye.
A cold wave of realization washed over me. The efficient explosion served only one purpose – to propel the shrapnel at an unimaginable velocity. And the result? A horrifying ballet of lethal shrapnel, capable of turning any living thing in its path into a mangled mess in a heartbeat. The success of the initial test was undeniable, an unsettling testament to the seal's efficiency and sheer deadliness.
This will need to be submitted to sensei, and Konoha as a whole immediately.
My next challenge lay in refining the seal's control. While the current iteration mimicked a standard fragmentation grenade, its indiscriminate blast radius posed a significant risk in close-quarters combat. I needed a way to direct the explosion and fragment spread, allowing for safe and strategic use in any environment.
But an even more audacious concept began to take shape in my mind. What if I could use the fragmentation seal not just as a standalone weapon, but as a tool to enhance my own taijutsu? This meant moving beyond simply directing the explosion – it meant integrating the shrapnel itself into my fighting style.
The initial thrill of the successful test gave way to the sobering realization that the fragmentation seal, in its current form, was ill-suited for close-quarters combat. The indiscriminate blast radius posed a significant risk, not just to my opponents, but to myself and any allies caught in the shrapnel storm. This wouldn't do. I needed a way to refine the seal's control, not just for tactical deployment, but for integrating it into my taijutsu.
A vision, both exhilarating and terrifying, began to take shape in my mind. What if I could transform the fragmentation seal from a standalone weapon into an extension of my own fighting style? This meant going beyond simply directing the explosion; it meant weaving the shrapnel itself into the fabric of my combat.
I envisioned a taijutsu style that danced precariously on the edge of controlled chaos. I would activate the seal mere moments before engaging in close combat, unleashing a precise, contained shower of shrapnel These fragments would become extensions of my strikes, inflicting additional piercing and tearing damage upon contact, much like how Tsunade, the legendary Sannin, amplified her punches with chakra.
The potential was undeniable – a devastating taijutsu style that transformed every punch, kick, and grapple into a whirlwind of steel. But the risks were a hydra, each head demanding careful consideration.
Mistiming the seal activation remained the most immediate threat, a potential for self-inflicted wounds that could turn victory into self-sabotage.
Beyond the physical risks lurked a more insidious one – the allure of recklessness. This unorthodox style, bordering on the suicidal, could easily tempt me to abandon my calculated approach.
Before even attempting to integrate the shrapnel into my taijutsu, I needed to thoroughly test the refined "omni-directional fragmentation seal." The initial euphoria of its creation had to be tempered with a scientist's eye for detail. Did the seal generate any recoil? If so, how would it affect my balance and control during combat?
The controlled nature of the blasts was another crucial aspect. While I envisioned a precise shower of shrapnel, the reality, I knew, could be far messier. How much control did I truly have over the direction and spread of the fragments? Was there a risk of the shrapnel deviating from the intended path, potentially harming allies or even ricocheting back at me?
The potential for self-inflicted wounds loomed large, a constant reminder of the fine line I was treading. While the embedded shrapnel promised devastating attacks, the slightest miscalculation could turn them inward, inflicting gruesome injuries upon myself.
This concern wasn't unfounded. Unlike most ninja, who prioritized agility and stealth, I already employed a heavier, more protective attire. My robes, while still allowing for fluid movement, were woven with a thicker thread and reinforced with hidden padding. This additional weight, while offering some degree of protection, was a constant reminder of my physical limitations.
But an idea sparked within me, fuelled by necessity and a touch of inspiration. Could I adapt my existing attire, transform it from a mere shield into an active participant in my fighting style? Perhaps by incorporating additional seals directly onto the armour, I could create a layer of protection specifically designed to counter the shrapnel threat.
These embedded seals, unlike the offensive fragmentation seal, would be passive in nature, constantly emitting a low-level chakra field. This field, meticulously calibrated, would act as a repulsive force, subtly pushing the shrapnel away from my body in case of accidental detonation.
The concept, while intriguing, presented its own set of challenges. Refining the seals to the point of near-instantaneous activation, ensuring minimal chakra consumption, and integrating them seamlessly into the existing fabric of my armour – these were just the first hurdles I needed to overcome.
Yet, the potential reward outweighed the challenges. Not only would this fortified armour mitigate the risk of self-harm, but it could also offer additional defensive capabilities against conventional attacks. This transformation, if successful, would turn my attire into a testament to both my strategic mind and my dedication to pushing the boundaries of ninjutsu.
My thoughts drifted towards my studies - The solution, I envisioned, lay in incorporating additional control seals into the design. These seals, meticulously placed and intricately woven into the existing framework, would allow me to channel chakra in specific ways, influencing the direction of the explosive force and fragment dispersal.
The path ahead wouldn't be easy. It would require meticulous experimentation, countless calculations, and rigorous training to master the precise chakra control needed for successful implementation. But the potential reward - a versatile and adaptable weapon usable in any situation - fuelled my determination.
The limitations of the current fragmentation seal gnawed at me, its potential overshadowed by the constant threat of self-harm. Yet, the concept of integrating fuinjutsu into taijutsu remained a tantalizing prospect, urging me to explore further.
I flipped open my notebook, and began to note many of the other ideas i had from my brainstorming of a style.
With a determined scratch of my pen, I began to outline the parameters of a new seal. This "reinforced explosive seal" differed from its predecessor in its reliance on a combustible material, like flour or sawdust, to amplify the blast. The challenge lay in creating three distinct seals – one for the concussive force (already present in the fragmentation seal) to disperse the combustible, another for the ignition, and finally, the seal to house the combustible itself. While slower and more obvious than the fragmentation seal, its potential for a larger-scale explosion was undeniable.
The possibilities unfurled before me like a scroll waiting to be unravelled. Could the explosion seal, when combined with a strategically placed steel pipe, and projectile, transform into a crude, directional weapon? The concept of a "fuinjutsu gun" was unorthodox, perhaps even bordering on heretical, yet the potential effectiveness against even skilled ninja was impossible to ignore. Experimentation, however, would be crucial. Only through trial and error could I determine its feasibility and navigate the ethical implications of such a weapon.
And finally, my last idea before bed, by modifying my first unique seal, the sensor seal. The seal utilised chakra pings to locate nearby chakra signatures, using the same philosophy this can be applied into developing a prototype radio. While Konohagakure hadn't yet adopted such technology, long-distance communication would earn me a lot of money, and provide Konoha with a significant advantage for the looming wars.

Chapter 3 done, next one is their first D ranks, maybe some Kaia and Akari perspectives.
I do not intend for explosive seals to be Ushinatta's entire fighting style, just as his entry into the world. And i promise any development on the gun idea, will not be ridiculous or out of place, trust.
As always, please leave a review, and follow ! They mean the world to me.
