Hello :P It's Wednesday so it's time for my usual weekly update. I wrote this one a while ago but found it today and decided to upload it. I hope you enjoy :3
Ages:
Ash: 27
Gary: 28
James: 14 months
Disclaimer: I own only the story :3
"Hey little James, are you excited to see your Uncle Gary?" the spiky haired male bent down to the child's level as he greeted him. His optimistic grin was replaced with one of shock, confusion and almost hurt at his response.
"No." was all he replied as he continued to play peekaboo with him, using his father's favourite handkerchief.
"No…?" Gary uttered in confusion before suddenly laughing when Ash came in the room to see what was happening. "It seems that little James has learnt the beautiful word "no", am I right?"
Ash sighed and weakly nodded, picking up his youngest child to perch him on his hip. I noticed that he looked at all his children with all the same love and I found that wonderful. There were certainly no favourites in this house.
"You got it. Just a few days ago he picked it up and it's all he's been saying. He's got such an obsession with the word and won't even say mama or dada anymore."
Gary smirked but his expression turned to that of sympathy when Ash looked at his son worriedly and nibbled his lip.
"Don't worry, Ash, it's just a phase. He'll say dada again soon. Young toddlers always get obsessed with the same word or object all the time then it goes as quick as it comes. All your hard work to teach him "dada" has not gone to waste."
The raven haired male blushed at his best friend sensing his anxiety before smiling gratefully at the advice from the slightly older male.
"Thanks, Gary." Was all he muttered as he put James' pacifier between his lips and rocked him on his hip to make him laugh. "So has Dylan been obsessed with the word "no" as well then?"
Ash was referring to Gary and his girlfriend Jayme's son Dylan who was born just a few weeks before baby James. The two had quite the endearing little friendship and were often found chatting happily away to each other about the goings on in their own baby world.
"Of course he hasn't." the auburn haired male laughed, answering his best friend's previous question. "Dylan has the best parents and knows when to use it in the right context."
Ash scowled at Gary's smug expression on his face. Gary had grown up a lot since childhood and was always there for Ash when he needed advice. He just couldn't help but annoy the raven haired man when he felt it necessary. I laughed to myself as I perched myself on the window sill to watch the continuing scene. Same old Gary.
"Haha, very funny…" Ash pouted before kissing his son's forehead. "I'm still worried about him though. What if the only word he learns in his whole life is "no"?"
Gary copied Ash's wide eyes, pretending to gasp and fall over.
"What, so when he gets married and has to say "I do" he says "no instead?"
The spiky haired male just laughed all the more as Ash got even more panicked and took his nephew off him.
"Seriously, Ash, it's just a phase." He looked at the flapping male with a look that told him he was joking before and there really wasn't anything to worry about. When Ash calmed down, I saw a glint return to his eyes. What was he going to do?
"But…" he smirked; sitting down with James on his lap so the infant was facing him. "While he is obsessed with this word, we might as well have some fun."
Ash frowned and sat down next to Gary, his chocolate orbs asking without words what on earth he was about to do. I looked over at the pair of fools, smiling fondly to myself. Their chemistry was still as strong as ever, despite them growing up and having families of their own.
Gary took hold of baby James' hands so the little boy looked up at his Uncle with his big green orbs. Ash melted at the innocence of his son.
"Little James, is there anyone better than your Uncle Gary?"
Ash and I rolled our eyes. It was obvious what he was hoping the child's reply was going to be. He may be a very famous Pokemon Professor but he was still a little kid, in my opinion. But then again, so was Ash and I adored him very much.
"No." James answered simply, making a grab for Gary's t shirt.
After smirking and proudly puffing his chest out for a few seconds, the auburn haired male answered the chestnut haired little boy another question.
"Is there anyone smarter than your mommy?"
At the mention of Misty, Ash scowled slightly. I knew he hated the idea of Gary hitting on her but he also knew that she was the smartest woman he knew. Ash, Gary and I all waited for the toddler's answer. When he replied with the word "no" once again, Ash stood up excitedly, finally loving the new game.
"I got one, I got one!" he pounded the air with his fist in an immature manner before turning his son to face him. Gary on the other hand, had other ideas and looked at James himself to ask him another question.
"Is your daddy an idiot?"
Ash gave Gary a deathly stare before grinning from ear to ear again, thinking his son was going to be loyal to him. The raven haired male almost fell down in shock at his son's answer.
"Yes." Little James replied before giving Gary a cheeky grin when everyone but Ash burst out in laughter.
I snickered to myself as I curled up to go to sleep, leaving Ash humiliated in front of his best friend and son. James may have learned a new word but that wasn't enough to heal Ash from the shock of his youngest son's wit. Ah, so it seems the little boy had inherited his mother's smart genes, just like Katie had. Good luck, Ash, I think you're outnumbered here.
The End.
There you go! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 I will be back next week on the 28th because it's me and my TT's anniversary :'B Thanks again and see you then!
