Hello :P It's Wednesday so I am back with a new chapter. I contemplated uploading this one last Saturday after me and AAML-TAML realised it was PokeShipping day but decided against it since I would upload 3 chapters last week and none this week. So this chapter is for PokeShipping day even though that happened on the 7th :3
Ages:
Ash: 23
Misty: 23
Ben: 3
Katie: 3
Disclaimer: I own only the story :3
"Look at this one, look at this one!" Ash beamed from rummaging around the pile of photographs on the floor and leaned over to shove one in his girlfriend's face. "Look how sweet!"
Misty smiled lovingly from sorting out a different pile and took the photo out of Ash's hand, squinting to have a proper look. Her gentle smile grew even softer as her eyes focused on it and a light blush took over her cheeks.
"Awww is that our first date?"
Ash nodded and beamed happily, taking the picture back before adding it to the correct pile. When he was done, he sat on the floor with his legs crossed and a calm expression taking over his excited face.
"It sure is, Mist." He smiled at his girl before getting distracted by another set of photos and started sorting them out. However, he continued the conversation. "Remember how nervous you were for that?"
Upon hearing my best friend's words, both Misty and I looked up from our jobs to give Ash a knowing look. Even Ben and Katie sensed his unlikely comment and looked up from their own sorting to blink at him.
Misty's comical look soon died down and turned into that of a look of fondness and she shuffled nearer to her boyfriend.
"I think you're getting your facts wrong, Ashy. It was you who was so nervous you got your sentences completely round the wrong way."
The orange haired woman's words caused him to blush and stick his nose in the air stubbornly. He was about to deny her accusation when a particular photo caught his eye. I smirked as Ash's beam returned and he shoved yet another photo in Misty's face.
"I bet you remember this one." He sneered, watching his girlfriend's face go from teasing to a look of embarrassment and horror.
I couldn't see the picture from where I was sorting through photographs so Ash was kind enough to enlighten me. Much to Misty's horror, of course.
"It's the time we were going out to dinner and James helped Misty with her make up like always but instead chose to give her a little more than she bargained for."
I nodded my head in remembrance, letting out a gentle snicker when Misty wasn't paying attention to me. Ah yes, how could I forget that?
My quiet giggles were enough to infect Ash and soon enough we were both laughing quite loudly at the image of Misty. While we cackled, she looked quite unimpressed.
Misty was about to reach for an even more embarrassing photo of Ash when Katie came toddling over to her mother, a picture clasped between her fists.
Katie and her twin brother had been given the instructions of hunting for pictures featuring her and Ben and putting them in a completely different pile. It was adorable how the twins were both so enthusiastic on helping their parents clear out the house and I was impressed how well they followed instructions. They may have been Ash's kids but they had a lot of Misty in them too.
The orange haired woman smiled at her daughter and held her hands out welcomingly for Katie to show her the picture.
Katie returned the same smile at her mother, uttering a simple word as she handed the photo over.
"Baby." Was all the toddler said.
Ash raised a curious eyebrow at his daughter's word and came to sit by Misty's side as she pulled Katie onto her lap.
Misty giggled lovingly, stroking Katie's hair in the direction she liked while showing her the picture she had offered her.
"That's you, Katie. That's you when you were a baby."
The raven haired man showed off a goofy loving smile as his own eyes took in the picture of baby Katie.
"Awwww." He cooed while Katie turned to glare at him.
I wondered if her sour expression was from her father's noise or that she still didn't understand how that tiny creature could have been her.
Ash was used to his daughter's death stares and just laughed lovingly, reaching out to pat her head.
I showed off my own fond expression as Ben came toddling over, clearly wanting to join in on the cuddles and to not miss any action that may have happened.
Misty welcomed her son to sit on her other knee, frowning curiously when she saw he had a picture in his own fists.
"What do you have there, little man?"
Ben beamed upon hearing his mother's gentle tone and happily handed her the object.
Ash and I were expecting a soft coo or a hearty laugh to follow Misty's eyes scanning the photo but that didn't happen. Quite the opposite did, in fact.
Misty's joyful expression soon became quite glazed over and if I wasn't mistaken, a few tears pricked her aquamarine orbs.
Both Ash and I grew concerned and the raven haired male shuffled nearer to his girlfriend's side while I hopped on his shoulder.
Our eyes took in what was in front of her but we waited for her to explain.
"T-That's my mommy and daddy." She uttered in just over a whisper, her eyes focused intently on the people in the images. "Your grandmother and grandfather."
The picture showed a young and in love couple outside the Cerulean Gym. The young lady was probably a bit younger than Misty was now and was the spitting image of her except her eyes were as blue as the sea she loved so much. The young man was handsome and had floppy blonde hair. His orbs were piercing green, similar to those of another man we know.
My studying of the image was interrupted by Ben's young and innocent voice squeaking out, his chocolate orbs looking right at his mother.
"Grammy?" he repeated this familiar word before saying the word he had heard other people say. "Grandad?"
Misty took a deep breath and managed to smile bravely at her son, stroking his face with her hand.
"Yes, baby. They are your and Katie's grandparents."
I was surprised that Katie didn't beam at her name being mentioned but instead she was sat on her mother's leg and sucking her thumb. She was a smart toddler and I believed she was deep in thought.
Ben frowned and thought for a moment before his eyes grew wide with curiosity and he asked his mother a question.
"Why don't they visit me?"
Ash let out his own sad whimper upon hearing these words and both of us glanced at Misty. I saw her swallow and blink desperately to try and fight back the tears. Soon enough she took another deep breath and spoke.
"They had to go away. They're not here anymore."
I expected Ben to frown even more and continue to question his mother but he didn't. Instead, he went deep in thought for a few seconds before suddenly throwing his arms around his mother's neck.
"I here."
These simple words were enough to make Misty's eyes well with tears but she continued smiling and hugged her son back.
Ash sniffed tearfully and wrapped his arms around his wife's waist.
"I'm here too."
I nuzzled Misty's neck from Ash's shoulder to show that I was here too. Ash nuzzled me with his own nose before turning to look at his daughter, waiting for her to copy everyone.
Katie gave her mommy a loving beam and threw her own arms around her neck before uttering completely the wrong thing.
"James."
Ash gasped upon hearing this and pointed at the picture, trying to distract Misty in case she got upset.
"I think she means your dad has green eyes like her Uncle James."
Misty just shook her head fondly and blinked back the loving tears as she threw her arms around her boyfriend's neck.
"Of course that's not what she means." She giggled as she turned to stroke her daughter's nose. "You can phone your uncle James later."
Katie beamed happily and kept one arm around her mother and put the other on her twin brother's back.
"Yeah, after a family cuddle that is." Ash beamed, wrapping his arms lovingly around them all.
Misty smiled happily and turned to snuggle into her soul mate's chest.
"Yeah, that sounds like a perfect plan."
We all stayed in each other's arms for quite a while after that, all just enjoying each other's love, warmth and company. I'm sad to say Misty's parents never got to see their little girl grow up or see her become a mother herself. But I was adamant that they were proud of the woman she had become, like we all were. They remained in Misty's heart and were always with her even if they weren't physically there. Maybe they did look down on her and see all of her adventures with us. Maybe they sat in their saved seats at Ash and Misty's wedding and watched two hearts become one. Who knows? The world is full of wonder and our family is full of love.
The End.
There you go! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 I liked writing young adult Ash and Misty interacting with their toddlers. I also liked writing the difference between Ben and Katie and how Katie loves mentioning her uncle James into every conversation :P Thanks again and I will be back next Wednesday for another PokeShipping week themed Pikachu Tales :3
