Hello :P It is Wednesday and I am back with another Christmassey update. I got the idea for this a while ago when my TT sent me a video of a similar situation and when I decided to write all winter fics, I knew I was going to turn it into a festive version :P I hope you all enjoy :3
Ages:
Misty: 28
James: 35
Ben: 8
Katie: 8
James K: 19 months
Jessika K: 8 months
It was less than two weeks until Christmas Day and all of our friends in our close group were more than ready for the especially festive upcoming few days. We all went out of our way to make the holiday season special but especially the Ketchum's since our family had young children and Ash and Misty who were both very into celebrating every holiday with their offspring.
It was a usual day over the Christmas holidays. Ash was busy at yet another meeting before his company disbanded temporarily until the New Year. Ben and Katie were occupied in the living room, one of them madly pretending to battle with his pokemon plushies and the other watching one of her favourite films. I was busy playing with little James and Misty was feeding her youngest a small midday snack after she complained for one. Well, she was trying to, that is.
"C'mon Jessika, why don't you eat this lovely food up?" Misty cooed at the baby with jet black hair like her father, desperately trying to entice her with a baby rice cracker.
I looked over from playing with the chestnut haired little boy and smirked. The expression Jessika was giving her mother was priceless. It was the same exact look that Ash showed when he was advised not to eat so much.
Misty saw I was looking and shook her head in a fond exasperated way before putting the rice crackers back on the baby's high chair tray.
"I must admit her snack isn't exactly appetising but she normally eats anything and everything I put in front of her." The red headed female's expression changed from jokey to actually worried as she rubbed her forehead. "She complained for food so why won't she eat?"
I gave Misty a reassuring smile and jumped up from playing on the floor with James to the kitchen counter. I nuzzled Misty comfortingly.
You've seen the way Jessika's eyes go like saucers when she sees what you and Ash are eating. She probably wants to hurry up and grow so she can try your food.
Upon hearing this, Misty laughed and stroked my head. I smiled happily in return that I had made her feel better.
"Yeah, that's true. But I don't want her to grow up. She's my baby."
Before Misty could get all emotional on me, the doorbell suddenly rang and that distracted her from her motherly thoughts. I watched as Misty went to answer the door, peeping curiously and wondering who it could be.
The red headed female couldn't help but smile even more as she opened the door and saw her lavender haired best friend standing there.
"Hey James, what are you doing here?" she played with her hair curiously before stepping out of the way so he could come in.
The older male saw me looking and waved before turning to look back at Misty.
"I just came to collect something from Katie. I think she's been using me as her personal jewellers again."
We all laughed fondly at the eight year old girl's classic antics before Misty led her best friend into the kitchen where we had previously been.
Katie must have heard her favourite laugh in the world as I heard her pause her film and come darting in. She ran into her uncle's arms and he picked her up in the air.
"Uncle James! Have you come to watch a film with me? Have you bought a new one to watch?"
James didn't mind his goddaughter's probing and just smiled lovingly at her, putting her on her feet and bending down to her level.
"Maybe some other time, bubbles. I just came to collect the jewellery that you borrowed when I babysat you last week."
Upon hearing this, Katie grinned sheepishly at her favourite man and played with her hair in the same way that her mother always did.
"Uh… What did you want back? Because I may have accidentally borrowed some other stuff you didn't know about…"
Misty let out a quiet gasp upon hearing this and hissed her daughter's name in a slightly appalled manner.
James was completely unfazed and laughed, reaching out to stroke her cheek fondly.
"Well can you go grab it all for me now and I'll see what I need back?"
Katie beamed at her uncle's gentle approach and rushed off to follow his request, leaving Misty to move on from one daughter to try and hand her other one a rice cracker.
She sighed out loud as Jessika wouldn't take it before looking at her best friend, her hands on her hips.
"Your timing is actually perfect. I can't get this one to eat."
James smirked at his best friend's words before hopping onto the bar stool next to the counting.
"Well I am pretty perfect." He joked before concentrating on the latter thing that Misty said. "Wait, Jessika won't eat?"
Misty just responded with a shake of her head.
"You mean a Ketchum child won't eat?"
Misty rolled her eyes and couldn't help but smirk at what he was insinuating before sighing and nodding once again.
"She really isn't so keen on baby food. I don't exactly blame her but-"
The red headed mother was interrupted by the sudden sound of a crash and a yelp. The intrusion wasn't from Katie this time but rather from her twin brother. I smirked and met James' wide, confused eyes. Ben had probably got a little too into fake battling and broken something.
Misty just rolled her eyes in a motherly way before rushing off to see what kind of mess her eldest son had gotten into.
James watched his best friend leave before he picked up a rice cracker off Jessika's tray and tried to hand it to her. The little girl wrinkled her nose and batted it away once again, her young face looking quite disgusted.
The lavender haired male couldn't help but laugh at her grumpy expression and he stroked her chubby cheek with his finger.
"It's okay, my other favourite Jess." He cooed and reached for a cookie that Misty had baked earlier, taking a bite of it. I rolled my eyes at him. He and his wife sure were proud (or should I say smug?) that the two youngest Ketchum's were named after them.
James was in the middle of eating Misty's baked treats when he noticed that Jessika had quite the beam on her face and she was opening her mouth just like a baby bird would open its beak.
The paternal man swallowed his cookie and wiped his mouth before sighing sadly. He looked down at the cookie and broke off a small piece and ate it himself.
Jessika whimpered when she saw it wasn't for her and reached out for her uncle. This Ketchum girl wasn't as close to James as her mother and elder sister were so I thought that maybe this was the start of their very own special bond.
I smirked to myself as the baby's eyes were fixed firmly on the final piece of cookie that was in the lavender haired male's hand. In reality, she was after his food and she knew he was soft enough to cave and treat her to her first bit of sugar.
James just sighed and shook his head, not wanting to do anything behind his best friend's back. He took the final piece of cookie and popped it into his own mouth.
Jessika was just a baby and didn't see her uncle chewing. She kept her mouth open for the cookie long after it was gone.
James just laughed at her adorable hopeful expression and took hold of a rice cracker, popping it into the baby's open mouth. She began to chew quite excitedly when she was fed but she soon realised that this wasn't the sweet taste that she could smell.
James and I both laughed even more at the infant's screwed up look of betrayal but we both felt bad about it.
After his laugh's died down, the green orbed male smirked and turned to call in the direction that his best friend had headed.
"Misty, I got the baby to eat!"
It was soon after he uttered these words that he noticed that Misty had been watching the whole time. Her expression wasn't as happy as ours was and she let out a slight growl and flicked James' nose.
"How dare you make my baby think she's getting a cookie when you were just going to give her a crusty rice cake!" she hissed at her best friend and picked up her baby daughter onto her hip protectively.
Once James recovered from the nose flick and stopped pouting, he took up straight and gave Misty quite the smug look.
"Now Misty, I don't think calling the rice cakes "crusty" is going to help encourage healthy eating. Do you?"
The red haired female glared at her best friend's smart retort and just let out another growl. Following that, she reached for the plate of cookie's she prepared earlier and crushed one in her hands above James' head so that the crumbs took up residence in his head.
When James let out a huffy grunt, Misty copied his smug expression and stood back.
"Who's the crusty one now?" she folded her arms, quite the proud look on her face that his precious locks were gritty with biscuit.
I couldn't help but smirk at the scene before finally settling back to playing with little James. That was yet another typical circumstance for our group; just a friend calling round and it somehow ending up with a betrayed baby, a displeased mother and messy crumbs all over the kitchen floor. I giggled to myself and listened to Misty and James engage in their usual comical bickering.
Those two had many similarities and many differences. At first, like everybody else, I was shocked by their close friendship but soon enough realised that they had a bond deep down. And nobody had the right to define or judge that.
James and Misty's friendship was sweet. Sweet like the cookie that James ate and sweet like everything else that day. Well, except for Misty's lecturing that is!
The End.
There you go! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :P I really love writing about James and Misty's friendship a lot. I love how they go from helping each other out to mucking around in seconds. I don't know if I included this in a fic before but you may have noticed that James' occasional nickname for Katie is "Bubbles". I headcanon he made that up because when she was a baby, he would play with her and make her mouth move and she made a drooling sound, hence bubbles T.T Thanks again for reading and I'll be back on Wednesday like always :3
AmyBieberKetchum signing out :P
