Hello :P It is Wednesday and I am back with a new chapter. I really did not know which one to upload this week seeing as my most recent ones I wrote I wanted to save for a later date. So I came home and opened my laptop and remembered this. I wrote this about two months ago now and thought it was quite touching. So I hope you enjoy this moment between Katie and her Uncle James :3
Disclaimer: I own only the story :3
It was the beginning of March and that awkward in between stage of the year. It was still technically winter but the weather wasn't so cold and harsh yet it still wasn't that warm hint of spring. I had been out on a leisurely stroll by myself to clear my head and to reflect on the wonder and blessing that was my life.
I had spotted James driving home from his City office and had been invited in for some food during his lunch break. Food and pleasant conversation had been had and James was getting ready to drop me off back home when there was a knock at the door.
It was so quiet and timid that the lavender haired male didn't hear it but I did. I glanced at him to see if he could hear when the sound occurred a second time but he continued tugging his jacket over his arms. I was about to open my mouth and inform him of the sound he was oblivious to when the knock grew bolder and he heard. He turned to me and blinked, making his way over to the front door to open it.
"Who could that be…?" he mumbled to me or himself before reaching into his work trouser pocket and pulling his keys out. He let out a curious sigh as he inserted the single key before the door swung wide open. I peered around curiously before glancing at James. His piercing green orbs grew wider at the sight. What was going on?
"Katie…" he breathed out in confusion before studying her brave smile for her uncle. He let out another shakier breath when he saw her tear stained cheeks and I could sense his heart rate picking up at the same time mine did. "Katie…? What's wrong? Are you okay?"
Upon hearing his concerned voice, the orange haired female suddenly broke down into tears and flung herself into his arms. Tears pricked James and I's own eyes. What had happened to the poor, sweet child?
"Katie…" James mumbled and bit his lip when she buried her head far into his stomach, just reaching out to try and soothe the little girl by playing with the ends of her side plait. "It's okay, I'm here…"
These words were meant to comfort her and I could tell they had but she still let out another sob and reached her hand to cling onto his shirt. James didn't care that she was getting tears and probably sad snot on his crisp white shirt and just continued holding her, rocking her gently.
When the clearly upset child continued making sobbing noses and shook her head, burying her head even further into her uncle for comfort, I swallowed the lump of worry in my throat. I hated seeing anyone or any child in distress but especially the offspring of those I loved dearly. I had watched this little girl come into the world and so had James. If anyone had done anything to hurt her, there would be hell to pay.
"Katieeee…" James mumbled her name softly before bending down to his knees and gently pushing her away so he could wipe her tears with his finger. He sighed sadly when she looked away and wiped her nose with her finger, reaching in his pocket before proceeding to wipe her nose with his posh purple handkerchief.
Katie was the child of Ash and Misty so like the both of them, hating seeming weak. However, the young lady had a very special bond with her Uncle James and knew that she could be open with him and express any emotions that she felt in her heart. He offered to her what he had lacked himself growing up.
Once Katie had been wiped up and stopped crying but continued to sniffle, I jumped on James' shoulder and reached to pat her cheek soothingly. She gave me a small smile, fresh tears threatening to brew at the kindness she was now being shown.
James looked at the little girl worriedly, his mind obviously racing with possibilities.
"Are you ready to tell me what happened, sweetheart…?"
The lavender haired male frowned all the more when his goddaughter shook her head fiercely and a blush streaked across her nose. This didn't deter him, however, and he just smiled and nodded at her before taking hold of her hand and leading her into his home office.
He picked her up and let her sit in his big chair before kneeling opposite her once again.
"Katie…" he began, his bright green orbs filled with concern for his special little lady. "If you can't tell me what happened, do you think you could write it down for me…?"
I couldn't help but give James a warm smile. He was really very good with dealing with people's inner feelings and emotions but also knew it was often difficult to express them. He had always been amazing with Misty when they became good friends and now he was truly spectacular with the mini version of her.
Katie too let out a sniff but smiled up at her uncle, fidgeting with her small hands. She swallowed quite loudly before taken a deep breath and opening her mouth to talk.
"I-I want to tell you what happened." Was all she uttered but it was enough to raise both our curiosity and concern. We just continued sitting opposite the little girl, waiting for when she was ready to speak.
The orange haired female let out a quiet and pained groan at the memory but managed to muster up the courage to tell the tale of what had happened at school.
"The teacher made fun of me." She sighed sadly and spoke in barely a whisper, glancing at her uncle with fresh tears filling her aquamarine orbs.
Upon hearing this, I shook my head and I could hear James swallow and begin to frown in quite the upset way.
"They did what?" he asked the little girl, his voice growing harder with anger towards the person Katie was talking about. When she didn't react or reply, James shook his own head and ran a hand through his hair. "They better not have made fun of what I think they made fun of or I'll-"
Katie cut her uncle off by looking at him with sad eyes, reaching out to slip her small hands into his manly ones.
"P-Please don't do anything. It was a s-s-supply teacher and I couldn't get my sentence out so I guess I was asking for it."
The young female's words caused James and I to look appalled and he shook his head in disagreement, looking at her with hurt in his eyes.
"Please do not say that. You are a beautiful and amazing kid and you are not asking for people to be ignorant. They should not have made fun of you."
Katie swallowed when she heard the emotion in James' voice, looking away and playing with the rings on his hands.
"W-Well maybe I wasn't asking for it but they… But they, uh, still did it."
James was quick to continue the discussion and he continued to shake his head in disgust, reaching to stroke her bangs in the direction she liked.
"Yes they did it and that was vile of them. They shouldn't have picked on you because you have-"
"I have a flaw. A big fat stinking flaw that makes me look so s-stupid and feel so stupid and- and I shouldn't even open my mouth."
When more tears trickled down Katie's cheeks, James and I both shut our eyes briefly, our hearts sinking. Oh, Katie. If only you saw what we do.
James took a deep breath and swallowed bravely, reaching to wipe her tears for her once again.
"You have a flaw, along with the rest of us in this world. I know that it sucks and makes you feel stupid but believe me, you are far from it. You're just a child and this is something that you will grow out of or you can overcome with the right help. Believe me, you are beautiful and whoever makes fun of you is uglier than any flaw in this world."
Katie just sniffed and looked up at her uncle, her eyes wide to show she was listening and full of hope. When she didn't speak, James continued.
"I don't know how anyone could be so evil. But we can sort it; I promise it will get sorted."
Upon hearing this, the orange haired female let out a sad groan and tackled her uncle with a hug and nuzzled her face into his chest, clinging to him.
"Please don't make me go back there. Not today, not ever."
James turned to glance at me, his green eyes full of worry and desperation to help the little girl who wasn't his but he loved so dearly and with all of his heart. He pressed a kiss to Katie's head, pulling her even closer.
"You don't have to do anything you don't want to do. I promise I will talk to your mommy and daddy about this." He mumbled, smiling sincerely at her when she pulled away to look up at him. "I promise, we will sort this for you."
Katie nodded and nestled her head between her uncle's shoulder and neck and believed him. I climbed on James' shoulder and reached out my tail to pet Katie with and believed him. And we were right to trust the lavender haired male.
It took hard work, dedication, perseverance but Katie managed to conquer her stutter in the end. We were all there to support her, encourage her and be a shoulder to cry on when she needed it. She was grateful for our loyalty but we were beyond proud of her courage. At one point, Katie was her own enemy. But after a while, after many months and smiles of encouragement, she began to accept herself. When she did that, her world became a lot easier. And I promise you, if you accept yourself too, for whom you truly are, there is nothing standing in your way.
The End.
There you go! Thank you so much and I hope you enjoyed :3 I think Katie's feeling of being embarrassed about her stutter is a universal feeling. We would never be so harsh on anybody else but for some reason we give ourselves such a hard time for things we consider "flaws". Katie ends up getting pulled out of school with her twin brother, Ben, and becomes homeschooled by Delia and I think after this moment is when Ash and Misty begin thinking about this option for their daughter and of course her twin brother goes along with her.
She's about seven here and before, everyone just accepted it as a part of her and thought she would grow out of the stutter. As well as the home schooling thing, after this moment James begins going to stutter classes and learning about it himself and once a week holds lessons just for Katie, seeing as she's too insecure to go to a public group. Just a few headcanons there that I will be writing further about in the future :3 Thanks again for reading and sorry for the long chunk of writing here. See you on the 28th with PS: I Miss You :P
