Hello :P It is Wednesday so I am back with a new chapter. I'm in a good mood today and the weather has been nice so I wanted to upload the most simple and happiest chapter I could find. I found this and I probably wrote it towards the beginning of the year after watching a video of a toddler doing a similar thing to Rey on Facebook. I hope you enjoy :3
Ages:
Ash: 31
James: 38
Rey: 21 months
Disclaimer: I own baby Rey with AAML-TAML :P
"What is it exactly that we came here for?" my raven haired best friend turned to the lavender haired male, scratching the back of his head as we arrived outside the large grocery store.
James rolled his eyes fondly and reached to tap the list in the younger male's front pocket, smirking at him.
"I don't know but your wife sure does, that's why she made a list."
Upon hearing his words, Ash laughed sheepishly and nodded, heading into the store and picking up a basket on the way. He tried to move on from his typical dense moment by moving the attention away from him.
"What are you in for?"
Ash's words were said with innocent curiosity and James laughed at him once again, meeting my eye and sharing a giggle with me.
"What am I in for? That sounds like we just entered a prison." He shoved the younger male amusedly before stuffing his hands into his pockets. "I don't need anything. I just followed you in here because I know you don't like to stick to the shopping list."
Ash curled his lip upon hearing this but soon sighed and nodded in agreement when he saw us both giving him a knowing look. He was about to push the attention away from him once again when a dozen squeals and gasped echoed around the large room. Our group had obviously earned a little bit of attention despite the fact we weren't really searching for it.
"Is that the Pokémon Master Ash over there? And is that James Morgan with him?"
You would think that when we heard these words muttered by multiple people, we would get excited. Of course it's always wonderful to meet new people but we had all received this attention for quite the number of years now and sometimes it was nice to just do a bit of shopping in peace.
James was the submissive one of the group and offered a shy smile and wave to the people uttering his name. Ash on the other hand, had always been an energetic and fun loving person and adored interacting with people who recognised him, especially if they were being polite and respectful.
He smiled and pressed a quick kiss to little Rey who had been on his hip before handing her over to her uncle, nodding his head in the direction of the small crowd of admirers that were gathered.
"I'm going to go have a chat and take some pictures and stuff, are you okay taking care of Rey?"
When the toddler squealed excitedly and hugged onto James' neck, he blushed and nodded happily before reaching forward and taking the list out of Ash's pocket.
"Yeah and seeing as you're busy, we might as well kill two birds with one stone and Rey and I will do the shopping for you."
Ash nodded and patted James on the back gratefully before glancing at me.
"What do you feel like doing, buddy?"
I thought for a moment before deciding that I wanted to be low key and wasn't really in the mood for attention and taking a bunch of pictures. When I jumped onto James' shoulder, my raven haired best friend gave a thumbs up to show he was cool with my decision.
"Okay, buddy." He smiled before consulting his watch and looking at James. "I'll meet you outside in roughly half an hour."
And with that, our group split into two to pursue different tasks.
The lavender haired male handed Misty's list for me to hold onto before making his way down the first aisle, his other arm supporting Rey.
When the little girl spotted lots of new people, she babbled excitedly and indicated to her uncle that she wanted to be put down.
We both smiled fondly at the little one and James placed her on her feet, knowing that she wasn't going to wander too far.
It may seem strange to you that the twenty one month old grew excited by the busy store rather than cowering away but James and I were used to it. Rey had been a sunshine since the day she was born.
I showed James the list and he took the first few items in and nodded, heading over to the correct side of the aisle. Rey took a different approach this time rather than her usual antics and stayed close to her uncle's side, watching him proceed to put eggs and milk into the basket.
When the lavender haired male saw the little girl watching him with her round, blue eyes, he gave her a soft smile and reached to stroke her head.
"We need to pick out some fruit, Rey of Sunshine." He spoke to her gently before standing up to his regular height, carefully guiding her to the correct aisle by nudging her head.
Rey responded well to her Uncle's kindness by murmuring happily and beaming. I showed off my own loving beam when to her delight, this particular aisle was bigger and filled with even more people.
Soon enough, the little girl began to do something she was famous for. She wasn't called Rey of Sunshine by James for nothing.
The little girl walked confidently down the middle of the aisle and spotted a frail old lady doing her shopping with a zimmer frame. She tilted her head curiously before showing off a delightful smile and waving.
In just a moment, the stranger so deep in thought and lost in her own world because so chuffed by Rey's action. The elderly lady beamed and waved back.
When the dark brown haired little girl murmured to herself and continued walking up the aisle, the little old lady paused to smile at James and me.
"What a sweetheart your little friend is."
We both nodded in agreement and wished her a good day before ignoring the responsibility of shopping for a moment and just followed Rey in her quest to spread happiness.
Soon enough, she made eye contact with a regular, middle aged woman and the little girl showed off her dazzling smile to her. This woman already looked like she had a cheerful disposition but her face lit up even more when Rey smiled and waved at her.
"Hello there, darling." She waved back at her and smiled at James and me before continuing her shopping.
James made a quick detour when he saw we were in the same aisle as a few things that Misty needed on the list. He picked them up and placed them in the basket before checking them off on the bit of paper that was in my hand. When we found Rey, we discovered that she was whining sadly to herself.
The lavender haired male frowned in concern and bent down to her level. Rey let out a squeak of disappointment and pointed to where a cluster of people were busy shopping and had their backs turned to the little girl.
Rey didn't have to explain further. I knew exactly was the matter. She had chosen who she wanted to spread happiness to but they weren't even looking in her direction and not allowing her to spread the joy.
I sighed sympathetically at her and nuzzled her hair.
Don't you worry, Rey. Perhaps someone else needs your happiness more right now.
After I uttered these words to her in my own language and she had a quick hug from James, we soon set off once again on our quest. It wasn't long before Rey, the leader, spotted someone else to say hello to.
She beamed and made her way over to a tall dark skinned man and waved her little hand happily at him. This man looked tough and at first was shocked by Rey's endearing actions but soon softened and returned them with a gap-toothed grin. When she continued waving and holding her hand up, the man gave her a little high five.
"Wow, you sure have made my day, little one."
Upon hearing this, Rey giggled and gave him her own high five before returning back to James' leg and hugging onto it. I turned to look at James and he looked at me with pride in his eyes.
Rey had made that man's day and by doing that, she made our day. It was amazing how much happiness a little toddler wanted to spread.
Half an hour later, Rey had given many smiles, hugs and high fives to people of all ages, races and religions. We had also completed our shopping.
James and I smiled fondly as we were waiting outside for Ash and Rey, who was on James' hip, yawned contentedly and nuzzled into his shoulder. The green orb male kissed her forehead lovingly before turning to me, a look of awe on his face.
"She's absolutely amazing, isn't she? The amount of people she wants to make happy and it doesn't matter to her what they look like or who they are with. It shows you that you are not born with ignorance and prejudice. Unfortunately, it's taught."
I smiled proudly at little Rey before nodding sadly at James' words, my brow furrowing slightly as I agreed with the depth of his words.
Yes. It sure is a shame.
As soon as I said this to James, my best friend came bounding over to us with the same happy grin that Rey had earlier.
"What's a shame? Is everything okay?"
After we told the story of what Rey got up to once again, Ash beamed proudly and took her from James' arms and gave her the tightest hug.
"Yeah, it's simply amazing what my little girl does for others. She just wants to spread happiness and if she keeps that up her whole life then, damn, the world is going to get a whole lot brighter."
James nodded in agreement and played with his hair, his eyes going from proud to thoughtful.
"I think it's pretty ironic how she was born into such a dark situation but from the moment she was born, she was such a beam of light and has continued to light the way every day since her first breath."
Ash nodded at the older male's words and beamed proudly at his sleepy little girl, pressing kisses to her cheeks.
"Little Rey is walking proof. She is proof that there's always light at the end of a tunnel. There has to be chaos before the calm. And no matter who you are, or how to come into this world, you can always spread happiness and kindness to others."
It was James' turn to nod happily at Ash's words and he patted his back in agreement. As we put the shopping into the car and drove home, Rey slept while the rest of us engaged in a proud discussion of her.
Ash and James were both correct with the things they each said that day. Rey was only a little girl but she was already an inspiration and an example to people of all ages. You should spread happiness and show the same kindness to everyone no matter their colour, age, race, religion, sexuality or status in life. If you pour out love then it will come back to you. If you want a positive life then you have to have a positive outlook. Follow Rey's example. Follow the example of a child. Their curiosity, love and purity is something that we should all strive to hold onto. We were all born with love in our hearts so we should die with love in our hearts. We shouldn't ever let that go.
The End.
There you go! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 I'm really excited to write more about Rey and her relationships with the others in the future. I know I have included her a little in PS: I Miss You and I have another chapter about her in my list to upload. They are all her as a baby/toddler so I can't wait to write about her as she grows up :3 Thanks again and I will be back on the 28th with PS: I Miss You. See you then!
