Hello :P It is Wednesday and I am back with a new update. I wasn't sure which one to upload today so I read through my list of ones to upload and I found this one. I'm glad I did, I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I'm really enjoying writing and coming up with headcanons about the characters who are no longer with us. eg: Misty's parents etc. This chapter is a little bit about hers and also introduces Jessie's deceased parents who I came up with myself. I hope you enjoy :3
Ages:
Jessie: 29
James: 29
Misty: 22
Disclaimer: I own Jordan and Lynne (Misty's parents) with AAML-TAML and Isaac and Melissa (Jessie's parents) alone.
My eyes immediately snapped open when I heard the fridge door slam shut. Groaning quietly to myself at the sudden awakening, I rolled over to my side and expected my best friend to be absent from bed and getting a snack. I blinked sleepily when I saw him sprawled out and snoring lightly. I smiled fondly before rolling onto my other side and saw Misty must have been the one getting a midnight feast.
I sighed contentedly at the silver hue of the room in the middle of the night before quietly padding out of bed and towards the kitchen to see Misty. I grew even more confused when just as I arrived in the main living area, I saw the door quietly shut behind her.
Frowning, I followed her out and watched her tiptoe over to Jessie and James' flat. Without hesitation, she unlocked the door and creeped inside. I was following at her heels and stuck my nose in between the large crack in the door. We both shared a noise of surprise when Misty entered; she saw her best friend and his wife sitting right in front of her on the floor of their living room.
"O-Oh, hi…" she stammered in shock, her hand quickly moving to brush her hair down. "I'm sorry I was hungry and we didn't have any chocolate spread so I came to get yours. I thought you'd be asleep in your room."
James just smiled up at his best friend from sitting cross legged on the living room floor with his wife, as if it was the most normal and okay-est thing in the world. I couldn't help but smile to myself as I watched from the darkness of the hall. Weird was the normal in this house.
Misty smiled back and relaxed before making her way over to her best friend's cupboard and reaching for what she needed. When she came back, she couldn't help but hover over the pair and glance down.
"What are you guys doing up so late?" she asked her best friend, both her and my eyes full of curiosity at the locked chest in front of them.
Once again, James just smiled and his hand moved back to play with his tied up hair.
"I could say the same about you but clearly you just want to eat my food instead of seeing your dear best friend."
Misty stuck her tongue out playfully at him but her eyes were filled with more curiosity when her question didn't get answered.
Jessie sighed quietly to herself and leaned forward from sitting on her husband's lap to unlock the chest with her finger. Watching this, James' eyes grew soft and serious and he glanced back at his best friend.
"We were talking about Jess' parents and now we're gonna look at photos of them."
Misty nodded and her eyes grew wide with understanding right away, her hand moving to play with her bangs.
"Oh…" she mumbled before sighing sadly in true understanding. "Oh, I'll leave you guys to it. Thanks for letting me raid your fridge."
James just smiled at her again before going back to his wife and studying her face as her eyes were locked onto a photo of her parents. All of us assumed she was in her own world.
"No, it's okay. You can stay." She didn't look up and she swallowed slightly but you could tell she was okay with the red haired female's presence in this personal time.
When Misty nodded, James patted next to him and his wife on the floor for his best friend to sit.
When Jessie snapped out of her thoughts, she handed the photo she was looking at to Misty, her normally solid eyes filled with vulnerability. Misty smiled shyly at the older female and took the photo in her hands.
James sighed quietly to himself and pressed a kiss to the side of his wife's head before reaching for his own photo.
Misty couldn't help but smile as she studied the photo with her eyes in the dim light of the night.
"Wow, this is your parents?"
Jessie just nodded to Misty's question before reaching forward and pulling out a new photo of her mother and father.
The orange haired female's eyes went to her best friend and glanced at him looking down at the picture that was in his hands. He smiled softly at his wife before back at the photo.
"Your mom is beautiful."
Both female's ears pricked up at this but Misty soon smiled and went back to looking down at her photo. Jessie was caught off guard and looked at her husband, tucking the loose bit of his hair back behind his ear.
"You think so? I think that too but she's my own mother."
James continued smiling at her before pressing a kiss to her cheek and his fingers made their way to play with her long, loose locks."
"Yeah, I do think so. Of course I do, she looks like you."
Jessie smirked slightly and gave him a nod of the head before leaning to rest her cheek on his shoulder as she reached for another photo.
Misty smiled at her best friend's affectionate ways before glancing at him and back down at the new photo of Jessie's dad. She smirked to herself and kept glancing between the two and hoped James would catch on. When James picked up another photo between his two thumbs and forefingers, he saw Misty looking and blinked at her.
"What are you doing?" he asked her in a confused way, causing his wife to look up over at the two from glancing down at a photo of her mother.
Misty smirked, flipping round the photo and holding it up to James.
"You and Jessie's dad have matching haircuts." She giggled slightly, watching his piercing green orbs glance at the photo in his best friend's hand. She smirked, teasing him. "I think you know it's time to get a new haircut when your wife's dad had it in the 80s."
Jessie couldn't help but laugh at this despite the fact her eyes were filled with the pain still from the loss off both her parents. James narrowed his eyes at Misty's remark and swapped photos with her, looking down at the photo of his father in law.
"We do not have matching haircuts. They both may be long but that's it."
Misty smirked at her best friend defending himself and casually rested her chin on his shoulder to make up for her cheeky remark. James stuck his tongue out at her before cant helping but smile down at the photo.
"Look at the hair on that dude. I've never seen him with it like that."
Jessie smiled at the photo of the male with long, magenta locked before taking a hold of it herself and looking at it more.
"He had to cut it all off when he joined Team Rocket." She replied simply and with a small sigh. James pulled a face, glancing between Jessie and the photo of his father in laws long locks. When Jessie pulled a face back, wondering what he was looking at, Misty snickered and answered for him.
"I think James is extremely grateful he didn't have to do that when we joined."
When James nodded, Jessie shook her head fondly and smirked, tugging out his ponytail so she could play with her husband's long locks.
"I think I'm glad to."
I watched as Misty smiled slightly at the two before suddenly her expression changed. She gulped slightly and her eyes filled with tears. James' head spun round from this, his eyes full of concern.
Misty wiped her eyes quickly and gave him a tiny smile and pat on the shoulder to reassure him.
"I-It's okay, I just remembered something. I'll be right back, if that's okay."
And with that, she darted out of James' flat and I hid behind the plant pot to avoid being spotted. I watched as Jessie and James' blinked at one another before shrugging, going back to looking at the photos.
James smiled, picking up a different photo of his mother in law. Apparently it was one of her in her teenage years. His casual smile turned soft and so did his eyes as he studied what was in front of him.
"Wow. I can see a lot of Jazmyn in her. Melissa too, now that I think about it."
Jessie smiled at her husband's words, her blue eyes secretly filling with slight tears in the darkness.
"I think so too. It used to hurt a little when Jazzy was very little but now I'm glad of it. It's like a little part of my mom is always here. In her and like you said - Melissa."
Misty came back in right as James pressed a gentle kiss to his wife's lips before pulling away and blushing when he saw his best friend. Misty's expression went from slightly emotional to showing off a smirk when she saw his blush, sitting back down.
"I hear what you get up to, Jimmy. So that definitely does not shock me."
James recovered from his blush and stuck his tongue out at his best friend. Jessie laughed and allowed herself to be pulled to her husband's chest as his eyes grew filled with curiosity at what was in Misty's hand.
"What you got there, Munchkin?"
She relaxed slightly at her best friend's tone and words but her eyes couldn't help but fill with tears again.
"Oh, just us talking about your and Jessie's dad's long hair got me thinking…" she mumbled to the pair and continued gripping onto the photo before handing it to James. "I remembered this photo of my dad. Check out his hair."
James blinked in curiosity and accepted the photo before looking down at it. I knew he was extremely close to Misty and knew a lot about Jordan. I could tell he had never seen him with long locks, however.
"Wow…" James smiled down at the photo and looked over his best friend's father before tilting it so his wife could see.
Jessie just smiled and nodded between the photo and Misty, her gesture saying it all without saying anything.
Misty couldn't help but sniff slightly at the memory of her father and James heard, instinctively wrapping his arm tightly around her and pulling her close.
"Me, Jordan and Isaac with matching hair, eh?" he smirked slightly to make her laugh, poking the end of her nose gently.
Misty let out a sniff and couldn't help but blush when her eyes filled with tears when the photo was handed back to her. She tried to swallow her tears as she glanced down at her photo, stroking over his face with her thumb.
James sighed sadly and wrapped his arms tighter around both of his girls. While her best friend's eyes were shut, she hugged tightly onto him, causing his eyes to open once again. She sniffed against him and didn't want him to see her emotion.
James furrowed his brow and just waited for her to speak. When Misty pulled away, she gulped and smiled tearfully but sincerely at him.
"I always felt kinda bad because I always seem to get sadder over losing my dad. I love them both equally of course, but…"
Jessie smiled understandingly at the younger female, burying her own head in her husband's neck when her eyes too were filled with the loss of her parents.
Misty sniffed, resting her head back on James' other shoulder, her cheek nuzzling against his t shirt.
"I think I know why I miss him so much. " she sniffed once again, shutting her eyes but not caring when a tear slid down her cheek. James swallowed himself and just waited, wrapping his arm further around her and linking his hand to hers.
Misty laughed sheepishly and squeezed his hand back.
"I think I miss him so much because from my memory and from my imagination, I imagine him being like you, James. I know you're kind and you're smart and wise but you're also really funny and protective too. I've seen those qualities in you as you and as a dad. And… And I think they're in my dad too. And that makes me miss him because that sucks if I'm missing out on my very own father who is as great as you."
When Misty trailed off and let out a small, stifled sob, everybody in the room's throats were filled with a lump and mine was too.
It was a tragedy that both Misty and Jessie didn't have either of their parents to walk them through the rest of their lives but I know that every day they are making them proud, wherever they are. Maybe Misty was drawn to James because he gave her the feeling of security like her own father once did. Maybe Jessie fell in love with her husband and his kindness as well as his long locks due to being shown those qualities from her father on the day she was born. Who knows? All I know is that both of them are lucky to have James. For no matter whom he is or where he came from or what he has done, he provides a sense of belonging and security in them both. And at the end of the day, that is what truly matters.
The End.
There you go! Thanks a lot for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 So yeah I definitely have this headcanon that Misty's friendship with James is stemmed from her being drawn to him being sweet and sensitive like her father. She doesn't realise it at first but later in life, she definitely realises there's similarities between the two. Especially when her parents come back to visit :P Yes, it is the Pokemon World and me and AAML-TAML have this headcanon that if you've been good "up there", then sometimes you can come back briefly to visit. Of course it's hard saying goodbye all over again, but the memories are wonderful :3 I'll definitely write about it in the future and also Jessie's parents backstories. I really enjoy having new territory and coming up with stuff purely on my own vision and imagination :P Thanks again and I will be back next Wednesday with another chapter. See you then!
AmyBieberKetchum signing out :3
