Hello :P It is Wednesday and I am back with a new chapter. This is just a fun little chapter really and was inspired by an episode of "The Middle". It basically shows how damn broody James is. He's always been paternal and gentle in the anime but when he falls in love, he just wants to keep baby making :P I hope you enjoy!
Ages:
James: 40
Jessie: 41
Disclaimer: I own any offspring/OC's mentioned :P
I glanced up from being curled up on Jessie's desk and thinking peacefully to myself when I heard a quiet giggle and scuffling in the hall outside. I raised a curious eyebrow and sat up; glancing over at the magenta haired female but she hadn't heard a word. She just continued typing paperwork for her and her husband's clothing line onto her laptop. It had been a peaceful day. Just taking a break from the antics of the Ketchum residence to watch the antics of the Morgan residence.
I was about to have some deep thoughts to myself about the differences and similarities between dynamics of the families when I heard the giggle once more and the door to the office opened. James poked half his body round and most of his head. His wife saw his reflection in the laptop but pretended not to see, running a casual hand through her loose locks.
"Who is it?" she asked nonchalantly and continued typing although, knowing her, it was probably a bunch of random letter she would have to erase from the paperwork at a later date.
I saw James smirk mischievously upon hearing this and he poked his body further around the door but he kept a lot hidden, including his arms. If this didn't pique the interest of Jessie, it certainly did me.
He had a glint in his mysterious green orb as he rested his cheek playfully on the door frame, still smirking that innocent yet playful smirk of his.
"I have something for youuuuuu." He called to his wife in a low tone and flipped his hair out of his eyes, causing his wife to blush even though they had been married forever and turn around on her desk chair.
I saw her blue orbs light up and glint back mischievously before letting out a quiet sigh, using her other hand to massage her fingers that she had been using to type all day. As the lavender haired male blinked for a moment at her disappointing reaction, she ran a hand through her own hair.
"As amazing as that sounds right now, James, you know I've had to have loads of check-ups down there and I'm not sure I can handle anymore poking and prodding. As gentle and sometimes skilled as you are-"
"Whoa whoa whoa!" James held one hand up in defence and the shy male blushed deeply upon hearing this, his eyes quickly changing from youthfully playful to shyly horrified.
Jessie was about to raise an eyebrow and assume that she was right with what she thought the surprise was going to be, she followed her husband's gaze and saw his eyes darting between her and me crazily. She soon went back to smirking upon seeing this and stood up, taking a few casual steps towards James.
"Still so very shy and selective with who you give out your information too, James. That definitely hasn't changed."
The lavender haired male narrowed his eyes and blushed when Jessie playfully flicked his forehead and he narrowed his eyes, shaking his hair out of his eyes mildly defensively.
"For your information, you were far from off with what the surprise was going to be." He paused to look slightly smug when he saw the disappointment in her eyes and hoped it was from missing out on time with him. That look soon turned to appalled when he said what he really wanted to say. "Besides I'm not the type of guy to spill that kind of gossip to a Pokémon, thank you very much."
I nodded appreciatively at James before nodding for real and somewhat wearily when I listened to what Jessie said next.
She laughed fondly at her husband's prior choice of words and folded her arms over her chest, tilting her head on one side at him in a low-key yet loving way.
"I know you're not that type of guy." She agreed before turning to give both me and him a playful look and let out a few laughs at her own observation. "But that poor thing lives with Ash and Misty so he is most definitely used to it."
James shook his head pityingly before nodding in agreement at his wife while I let out a quiet pitiful sigh directed at myself and my best friend and his wife. I sure did love Ash and Misty and I loved that they loved one and other but they didn't have to love one and other so loudly!
After a few moments, the giggles died down and Jessie's eyes grew curious once again upon realising her husband did have a surprise for her.
"So what's this thing you've done for me? But if you're going to make me guess I don't think I'll be able to think of anything other than- What is that?"
I looked back over to the scene to see that James had gone back behind the door before coming in the door properly. My own eyes grew wide at the sight. Jessie's eyes were even wider at the sight. James' eyes remained shyly hopeful while reaching his spare hand to stroke the top of his lip.
The baby I had never seen before in my life gurgled from all the attention and flung its arms about before letting out a few scared wails when it thought it was losing balance. James sighed fondly at it and rocked it close to his chest in a paternal way, nuzzling his nose against the baby's head.
"What is that?" Jessie repeated, her blue orbs widening more as each second passed and she couldn't help but take so many steps back she was almost sitting on the desk with me.
The lavender haired male furrowed his brow at her reaction and continued absent mindedly rocking the baby with that baby sway he always had going on when he was given an infant. He held it close to him as he answered his wife.
"It's a baby." He asked simply, his expression showing he wasn't exactly sure what to do seeing as his wife wasn't as ecstatic about having the baby in the office like he inwardly was himself.
Jessie let out a joking tut and rolled her eyes upon hearing this but didn't move closer again just yet, her arms folding back over her chest again.
"Well I know it's a baby." She let out a fond sigh before moving one hand onto her hip and tilting her head on the side. "What I mean is who is it? Who is its parents? Is it a boy or a girl? What is it doing here? Is it yours?"
James quickly laughed airily but slightly flatly upon hearing the last part and let the baby play with the buttons on his shirt but Jessie and I glanced at each other to agree that this would have been and still was quite a valid question. But the baby didn't have lavender or orange hair so I believed we were safe. The ex-rocketeer male narrowed his eyes and stuck his tongue out at this but was too distracted by the new kid and answering questions about the new kid to get too hurt or moody or sulky.
"Well I'm not actually sure if it's a boy or a girl, I guess we'll find out when we have to change it." He shrugged calmly, moving the baby onto his hip so it could have a poke of his ear. "But the gardener's niece's ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend or something double booked and didn't have a babysitter so I heard and offered to take care of it."
Both of us raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, thinking this was a joke more and more each second. Jessie continued raising an eyebrow and met my gaze before talking to her husband. Gardener's niece's ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend's baby? This was a stretch even for James. But it was so elaborate and not said with a stutter so evidently he was probably telling the truth.
Jessie let out a hidden fond sigh at seeing how happy her partner in life was nuzzling this yellow sleep suited baby but she remained raising an eyebrow and keeping her arms folded over her chest.
"So you just decided to take care of it for them? Just like that?" Jessie couldn't hide her fond expression and smirked when James casually answered with a "yup". She looked at him with curious and knowing blue orbs. "What is the real reason you have this baby? We have plenty of babies in our inner group that you can steal and cuddle at any time. Or perhaps your own extra two."
James tried to play it casual and innocent but it was clear from even just by me looking at him that there was something else. Upon being met with his wife's familiar and knowing eyes, James couldn't help but melt and explain as he rocked the baby on his hip.
"Okay okay, a few days ago you were complaining about how old and baron and like a has been you've been feeling-"
"Excuse me; they were not the words I used!" Jessie eyes grew wide with hurt and her arms folded back over her chest once again when James referred to the new stage in her life she had just entered and all the tests that it had led to.
James jumped upon hearing her harsher tone but only playfully while the baby just giggled. He took a few steps closer to her, his eyes and his smile so innocent and gentle that Jessie couldn't help but roll her eyes and soften once again.
"They're not the words I used either. They're the words I assumed were going on in your head." He leaned forward to give her a smirking kiss on the cheek before giving the baby one and bouncing it in his arms. "You said you were feeling sad how it seems just yesterday we were making babies together and able to make babies and now suddenly years have passed and we're nearing an old couple. So when I heard a new baby needed looking after, I thought I'd surprise you with it and hopefully make you feel better."
The magenta haired female sighed properly fondly upon hearing this and reached out to stroke her husband's hair as she tilted her head on one side at him.
"Really? All of that popped into your head when you heard a baby needing looking after?"
I couldn't help but smile softly myself when James was quick to nod and give her a sincere and happy smile. See? He never let her down.
"I told you I would do anything to make you happy." He continued looking at her earnestly before his eyes lit up even more as he held the baby out to his wife after kissing the side of its head. "Go on now, make me happy and give this baby a cuddle."
While Jessie had not been the most maternal person back in Team Rocket and she didn't have the same intuition with children as her husband did, she really had missed having her own children as babies and if her husband could pretend this one was theirs for the day, she sure as hell could as well.
The female ex-rocketeer gave the baby a quick cuddle and held it close to her chest before getting side-tracked with curiosity once again when she realised her husband hadn't known the answer to something either.
"Let's find out what we're dealing with." She tweaked the baby's nose gently before beginning to undo the poppers of its sleep suit to have a peek inside the nappy and find out the sex of it. James beamed and gave off a thumbs up when she said the answer he had been hoping for.
"It's a girl." She pretended to gasp and tickled the baby's tummy as she did up the buttons before laughing lovingly at her husband. She continued dressing the baby girl as her husband's sweetly happy expression gave her a déjà vu. "You looked exactly like that when we found out one of the twins was going to be a girl. And when we thought Jayden was before he actually popped out."
James stopped fist pumping the air and poking the baby's chubby cheek to nod and laugh fondly at what his wife was saying. He was about to respond to her when suddenly after Jessie pulled a face at the baby, she let out a few wails and held her podgy hands back out to James.
The lavender haired male was quick to beam and take the baby back and within seconds of it being pressed against his chest, she had gone back to letting out contented gurgles. Jessie narrowed her eyes and her mouth hung open with stubborn hurt as James just smiled modestly.
He remained modest and shrugged nonchalantly but as his wife's annoyance continued, he couldn't help but wind her up a little bit. He showed off that not so modest smug smirk of his as he rocked the baby on his hip and fluffed her locks with his fingers.
"Awww look at Jessie forever scaring other people's babies and even sometimes her own."
Jessie flushed stubbornly upon hearing this and was about to burst her husband's bubble when she suddenly sighed fondly and for once decided to remain quiet. She watched James hold the baby close to his chest and stroke her little ear gently while humming a soft tune to her.
I was melting inside myself so Jessie definitely was. One word to describe James was definitely gentle. As well as turning out like a gentleman like his parents had hoped, he had also turned out very gentle all thanks to himself and those who truly loved him. He was one of those remarkable people who didn't let the bad things make them hard and bitter against the world.
Jessie sat back down on the desk contentedly and stroked my cheek while watching her husband sway around the room with the unnamed baby. She just watched him silently for quite a while, her own eyes full of gentility as well as reaffirmation that he really was the only person she could imagine spending the rest of her life with as her husband. And I truly knew he felt the exact same way about her back.
Eventually she broke the silence, her other hand resting under her chin while the left one was making its way to stroke my ears. Perfect.
"Did you really get this baby for me?" she asked her husband, wanting him to say what he said before and say yes and that he'd do anything to make her happy.
Her eyes narrowed for a split second before rolling fondly when she watched as James nuzzled his nose against the baby's head before giving it a quick sniff to gather that scent that had made him broody many many times before. As James described it, it was the scent that made his ovaries burst if he had any.
Jessie stood back up and folded her arms teasingly as she approached her husband who was rocking the now asleep baby. She unfolded her arms to flick his forehead once again. She smirked smugly, not asking a question this time and making a statement instead.
"You didn't get that baby for me. You got that baby for you."
James narrowed his eyes defensively upon hearing this but soon saw that his wife was only teasing him so he could go back to being as open and as honest as he normally was with her. He let out a quiet sigh as he admitted and nodded.
"Well I got this baby for us. But you haven't been the one feeling old recently. I love all the new little ones around us now but I am always going to miss those amazing times when we were raising our babies for the first time. That was the time I was first truly happy. And I will always do stupid little things to try and get that feeling back. Even though I will never ever truly be able to go back to that exact moment in time. With you."
Jessie nodded understandingly before breathing out in admiration at her husband's depth. Those two were so very different but in some ways very similar. They just worked. They were like two puzzle pieces destined to be interlinked. No matter how far either of them wandered, they would always end up back with each other and in many many ways. They were soul linked.
James smiled in a melancholy way and went back to rocking the dreaming baby and Jessie sat back on the desk. One hand went back to her chin and the other went back to stroking my fur as she hummed to herself, talking.
"I hope you know that seeing how paternal you were was definitely one of the things that first attracted me to you, even though I never admitted it to myself." Jessie admitted with a girly smile before nodding and continuing when she saw her husband's innocent and disbelieving eyes, giving him a fond look. "I think I thought about telling you that when we were first together but back then I knew you would have brushed it off and been an awkward ass about it. I guess I forgot to re-mention it and the years past and here we are now."
James pushed past any temptations to make fun of how she definitely wasn't maternal at the beginning and ignored any urges to remind her that it was probably him who bought it out of her. He just gave her a smile and sat down on the desk with her, still holding the baby in his arms.
"Yeah…" he breathed out, and in the quiet contented silence we were sharing, gave his wife a look in his eyes of all the pure love, respect, admiration and security in all the world. "Here we are now."
What James said then was so very simple but I knew that that simple and vague sentence had all the heart and the meaning it needed.
It was an understatement to say that they had been through a lot together. But like I said before, they were soul linked and they always found their way back to one and other. That was the thing about those two. Their relationship was hard to describe, hard to label, hard to box and hard to pin down, like both of those two together and apart. They were very strong people in their own ways and when they came together, it was potent in the best possible sense. They never felt the need to explain themselves nor defend their relationship or the ups and downs or the love they had for each other. Their love just was. It existed. But it existed so purely. So deeply. And so fully. James would do anything to see Jessie happy and vice versa. He promised way back that he would never let her down. And he never did. Not really. Because for those two, they just had to look into one and others eyes and they could see and feel everything they needed.
The End.
There you go! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 I didn't plan it when writing this but looking back I like to imagine James is getting broody here, not knowing that his second baby with Lynne will be made the next time she comes down from "up there". That certainly will make him one happy man :P Thanks again and I will be back on Wednesday with another chapter so see you then!
AmyBieberKetchum signing out :3
