Hello :P It is Wednesday and I am back with a new chapter. This one was a lot to write because it's a whole new scenario that is relatively new in my brain. I've written before that Morgan ends up with Dylan. But initially, Eddie is the one with feelings for her and they end up doing something pretty stupid. I'll leave you to read and find out about it. I hope you enjoy!
Ages:
Jayme: 41
Gary: 43
Eddie: 22
Morgan: 17
Jordan: 32
James: 49
Disclaimer: I own the story and Eddie and Morgan :3
P.S: Castelia City in this chapter is like the real life Las Vegas and how you can marry there.
I watched the purple haired Morgan woman pace up and down her living room floor by the window, my eyes getting dizzier and more strained each time that she did it. Her auburn haired husband followed behind her, almost bumping into her each time she came to a stop as he tried to reason with her. But it just couldn't be done.
"I just can't believe him!" she announced and threw her hands into the air with exasperation before her brow knotted and her arms folded over her chest. She had another pace up and down the room, slower than before. "He has done a lot of stupid things in his lifetime but this is really taking the biscuit!"
Her second sentence was said with a lot less fire than the first one and the rest of them had but Jayme was still clearly annoyed. She was fuming. She had calmed down a lot, but her emotions were brewing. They were bubbling. They were most definitely at the surface.
Gary could see that there was no point in them both pacing so he decided to take a break, leaning against the wall. He was weary and disappointed himself but he was very different from his wife. Though his own brow furrowed, it was more in confusion. He wanted answers. He wanted to know why. As he leaned against the wall behind him, he ran a hand through his hair.
"I know you're mad and I'm mad too but we at least need to hear him out. He can act like an idiot, we know that, but there is normally some method to his madness."
Upon hearing this, Jayme shot him a glare. But it was more at the general situation rather than him and his words. She shook her head, continuing to pace.
"There is no method with this, Gary." She told her lifelong partner before finally taking a break. She stood opposite him on shaky legs. Her arms remained folded over her heaving chest. "There is no way that this is logical. This is-"
"Love." The auburn haired Pokémon Professor interjected with an almost vulnerable look on his face as both his arms reached out to place his hands on Jayme's shoulders. He looked at her softly, his own head shaking gently. "Love has no logic. You just go for it, you know that. That's the only possible answer."
"No." Jayme was quick to reply with another adamant shake of her head and her hands went to her husband's wrists but she didn't push his arms away. She looked back into his hazel eyes. She remained firm. "This isn't love. He isn't in love with her. This is just madness."
After this was said, they both just let out sighs. Gary grew defeated for a few moments as he pulled his hands away from the purple haired female and he leaned back against the wall. Jayme moved away from her himself. She went back to pacing. But this time it was different. She had her arms around her body as if you comfort herself. She walked almost in slow motion.
I breathed out and continued watching from in front of the doors that connected that room to the next, my own stomach knotted. Oh dear. It really was a situation. I could see both sides. I could see every side. And that didn't make it easier. I was torn.
After a few moments of silence, Jayme sat down in the arm chair and buried her head in her hands. Her shoulders slumped as though she might cry but she didn't. She just sat, shaking her head.
"He really is moronic…" she mumbled about her eldest son but I caught sight of her eyes and she got a lump in her throat. She didn't really think that. She thought his actions were, but not him. She was mad. She really was mad. But she was only so mad because she loved him. She continued, shakily. "What was going through Eddie's mind when he took Morgan off to Castelia City to get married?"
I looked down at my lap when I was reminded of how sticky the situation was exactly. And I imagined Jordan gritting his teeth from next door where he was guarding his little sister from each and every Oak. I couldn't look up for quite some time. Even when Gary came to sit on the floor next to his wife to offer her support and clarity. He reached out to gently brush his pinkie against hers.
"It was stupid. And Jordan has every right to be mad." He nodded his head, finally admitting in front of me that he too thought that the situation was uncalled for. But his emotions were kept more inside compared to Jayme's. He continued thoughtfully. "I know she's young. Only 17. But he's not exactly an old 22 year old. And he'd never harm her. He's in love."
I watched their conversation unfold. It had seemingly been going so well. With the first parts of his sentences, Jayme's eyes were becoming more relaxed and open. But by the end, they went back to being adamant and stubborn. She stood up again, looking down at her husband. Her arms folded back over her chest.
"No, Gary, no." she breathed out her nostrils, one arm unfolding to brush her side bangs out of her eyes before folding it over again. She shook her head even more determinedly as each moment passed. "He is not in love with her. And even if he was in love with her, they are not right for each other. She is young and naïve and she's going to be coming and going. He thinks he can look into her eyes and see their future or something! But she's just a child!"
Before it could even register in my brain that Morgan could probably hear them seeing as she was just in the room next door with Jordan, another door swung open. It hit the wall behind it with a thud. Eddie stood in the doorway, his cheeks and neck flushed with every kind of emotion you can think of."
"She is not just a child!" he said each word slowly and with a shaky breath after, his eyes looking between his parents with hurt. He looked at his mother with betrayal mostly. He stood his ground. "Who are you to dictate what I feel? I know what I feel! And it's something very strong. That's why I married her!"
And before Jayme could relay these words to her son, the doors I was leaning up against suddenly both opened and Jordan almost tripped over me trying to lunge at Eddie. I gasped. He was such a gentle man. But he thought his little sister was in danger. Him being angry was an understatement.
"You never even dated her!" he yelled at the dual haired male, his own skin flushed and his own eyes filled with emotion. He didn't try to lay a hand on him but he got very close and up in his face. He continued. "You don't even know what it's like to love her! Or even be with her! You just landed in a city with her and tricked my little sister into marrying you!"
"No!" a roar of denial came from Eddie and he was being brave judging by the scared look on his face. And I didn't exactly blame him. Jordan was the softest man on earth but when it came to his sister, he was very much the bear to her goldilocks.
At the same time that the junior Oak roared out in denial, Morgan came running in and attempted to grab hold of her brother's hand before he shoved Eddie with it. She was successful.
"No!" she called out in a much calmer tone, holding onto all of Jordan's fingers and trying to tug him away so she could talk to him. She swallowed the lump in her throat when instantly, her big brother softened just for her. He had always been her hero. She tried to tug him to sit down with her. "No, Jordan. He never tricked me. I wanted to marry him."
Though he had been scared and trembling before, Eddie almost brightened himself from the doorway and gave Morgan a smile. He found himself pushing his hair from his eyes somewhat sheepishly.
"Really? You did? I knew it." He mumbled to the entire group but he quickly stepped back over the line into the room behind him when he got a glare from Jordan and Jayme too. He got a look from his father but it was more like disappointment that he had caused Jordan so much upset.
Morgan shook her head at her brother for glaring at Eddie and she squeezed his hand before bravely moving to the dual haired male's side. She didn't touch him – oh no, that would've made Jordan's bear instincts kick in. she didn't touch him; she just stood at his side. She looked at her angel brother with truthful eyes.
"I did want to marry him, Jordan." She repeated and reaffirmed this to the rest of the group. When she heard Eddie let out a sigh that was 80% relief and 20% infatuation, she moved back away from him. She moved closer to Jordan again, offering her hand to him. She looked up at him with big, green orbs. "Didn't you ever think that maybe I wanted some stability in this crazy life I have? In a world where I go between two places, it felt nice knowing that something was forever."
Everybody's eyes dropped down to a ring. Some people looked at the one on Morgan's hand. Some people looked at the one on Eddie's. Jordan breathed out. He and I thought the same thing.
"But Morgan…" he began, holding onto his sister's outstretched hand and using his other to brush his lemon locks out of his eyes. When he looked at her, he was filled with such calmness. That's when he made sure not to look at the Oak. He'd be filled with such rage again. "You don't marry just anyone for stability. You don't marry just anyone to feel normalcy. You have to do it for love."
I nodded my head and it was confirmed all over again. Jordan and I were on the same page. I turned my head to look at Jayme and Gary. They too were holding hands and they too were nodding their head in agreement. Eddie was seemingly holding his breath. Morgan grew quiet for a few minutes but then she continued looking up at her brother, her head slightly tilted.
"I do love him, Jordan. He's one of the people I know has been here since I arrived down here." She informed her big brother before looking down her feet. It seemed that she could no longer meet his eyes. "He's my friend."
This time, it was Gary who held his breath. Jayme hesitantly looked over at her son. I did too.
For the longest time, Eddie had felt softness in his heart for Morgan. She intrigued him. When she got older, he most definitely had a crush on her. He didn't know what it was. He was just drawn to her. Like a moth to a flame. Everybody teased him that he was in love with her. Maybe it was because he heard it so much, he began to really believe that he was. He always had such fun with her. So her words were like a dagger to his heart. Did she think of him… Just as a friend?
Jordan was the only one who breathed out in relief. He kept hold of his sister's hand and tried to move it to his arm so he could lead her out the room with him. But she wasn't ready yet. So he spoke to her.
"I… I guess I'm glad you weren't tricked. I'm less glad that you're friends with him, but at least that's something. At least he's not a stranger."
You would've thought the way that Jordan said 'him' would make Eddie's shoulders slump even more. But he wasn't even present. He was standing in the room but he was on another planet. A cold planet where the idea that Morgan didn't feel the same way back was icy.
Jordan continued.
"But still." He persisted, trying once more to tuck his little sister's hand into his arm so they could go back to the other room together. "You have a lot to learn, young lady. You don't just marry your friends. And you don't just automatically like somebody who likes you."
This put a bad taste in the yellow haired teenage girl's mouth. She appreciated her brother's protectiveness but she didn't want him thinking that about her. She moved her hand away. She shook her head up at him.
"I like him because he's funny and witty and soft and I see all the things that you don't see." She told him rather harshly before turning on her heal to approach Eddie. She mentioned his softness and now she was being gentle towards him.
His expression was rather vacant and his hazel orbs looked pricked with far off tears. But his head snapped and his orbs met hers when she gently uttered his name and reached to stroke his cheek. She shook her head sadly.
"It's funny because I think other people are worried about you hurting me but I think it's me that might end up hurting you." She told him bravely and with a light and wistful laugh, her hand still on his usual rosy cheek.
It definitely wasn't rosy in that moment. He was looking at her but he was wincing. He was sensing the inevitable. And it came to them both. She dropped her hand away from his cheek.
"I do like you, Eddie, I really do. But for an eternity?" she paused, brokenly poking his ring before shaking her head again and taking a step back. "I'm sorry. I just need space and time to think. I'm sorry."
And that was that. She had been honest with her brother and then she had been honest with Eddie. But most importantly, she had been honest with herself. Eddie, Jayme and Gary both watched Jordan quietly but proudly lead her to the room two rooms away. Eddie watched most of all.
I felt my heart clenching for him. He just looked so broken. Just so so broken. Like he had had everything and now he had nothing. I felt bad for Morgan too. But it was so difficult.
She was ten years younger than her big brother Jordan. She had died at the age of four. She only had been able to come back on earth when Dylan and James were born. She had started to age since then. She was then just 17 and Eddie was 22 going on 23. She had known three lives compared to his one.
Her one with Jordan and her other brothers and her mother and father. A poor way of living by the sea. An upbringing that led to her passing on with malnourishment.
Her next life was 'up there', playing and staying at the age of four with the other children she met. It wasn't until she found Lynne when she was 'up there' and while Jordan was 'down here' that she too finally had a chance to come back to earth herself.
That had been her third life. When she came down, she continued her lifelong bond with Jordan but she felt an affinity for James too. She simply adored him. So much so that he became her guardian in case Jordan and Lynne both went back up together and she had no one else to take care of her. He loved her like a daughter. He loved Eddie like a son, even though he was his daughter's son. It was at that moment that I thought of the lavender haired male that he entered.
He gave his grown up daughter a kiss on the hand to give her courage. He gave his son in law a nod of the head to look after himself and his daughter and his family. He then approached Eddie.
The young Oak was still standing in the doorway, blank and numb with hurt. James approached him so they were standing almost toe to toe. He tilted his head at his grandson. He looked at him with deep and emotional and sympathetic eyes. He breathed out quietly through his nose. This got Eddie's attention. And then the young adult backed away from him, shaking his head and hot tears filling his eyes.
"Do not look at me like that!" he roared like he had roared at Jordan but this time, it was at his grandfather. His entire skin flushed salmon pink with emotion. He continued yelling. "Stop looking at me like that! Like you know how I feel! Like we can be buddies now because we both fell for an angel! Well guess what?! If you didn't hear, she doesn't fucking love me!"
Jayme yelped at her eldest son swearing and screaming at her father. Gary's eyes just grew wide and his mouth hung open. I watched myself. But I didn't have to hold my breath. James was a father and he was a grandfather. He was an uncle and son too. He had been yelled at plenty of times. He was sensitive, but sometimes it didn't affect him. And that time was one of them. He turned his head to give the two adults a reassuring look before he lightly pushed Eddie into his old bedroom. He shut the door behind him. He spoke to him before Eddie could continue raging.
"She does love you buddy, don't worry about that." He informed him coolly, gesturing for him to sit on his bed before folding his arms over his chest casually when he refused. He continued. "Just not enough to marry you. But she's still here. She's still around. It'll be fine."
I listened from still being on the other side of the door. I knew that James' calm and wise mature life advice was going to anger him. I was right. I imagined him hissing and giving his grandfather a shove.
"Stop being so annoying and calm!" he yelled at him, the tears in his eyes still coming but not dripping down yet. His head hurt but he felt the need to continue yelling. "You're annoying because you don't know what it's like! You're calm because you have no idea how it feels! Look at you Mr-I've-Always-Been-Loved-Back-By-Everyone-That-Has-Loved-Me!"
James tried not to look amused at the name and listened to his grandson, watching him force himself away and turn away from him. He kicked a cushion before spinning back to face him, a tear now down his red hot cheek. He continued brokenly.
"Not forgetting you're Mr-I-Can-Somehow-Balance-Two-Woman-At-Once-And-Get-Away-With-It!"
Upon hearing this, the lavender haired male had to use all of his strength not to laugh. It was hurting James that he had to see his grandson so upset, of course, but for once, he felt perspective. He somehow knew everything was going to be okay.
He took Eddie by the shoulders and pushed him down on the bed. He sat next to him, though he didn't look at him at first and he wiped his eyes roughly. James pushed his hair out of his eyes. He let it be silent for a few minutes before he answered the frantic male.
"So you really think I've never not been loved back by everybody that I've had feelings for?" he asked him curiously and when he didn't get looked at and just received a nod of the head, he continued. "Well you're wrong about that. I know how it feels. And I know how it feels to not feel loved by my parents so if I can survive that, you can survive this, kid."
I knew Eddie still didn't look at him but he winced. I wondered if it was from being called 'kid' or hurt for his grandfather, either way, he listened as James continued.
"It's going to hurt now. A lot. But you'll be okay. You'll feel like yelling and you'll feel like crying but one day. You'll be out of the maze." He told him, trying not to annoy him too much with his wisdom. When he remained silent still, he let out a quiet sigh and continued some more. "She's a great girl, Eddie. And I know how fond you are of her. I'm fond of both of you. But maybe you should have at least taken her on a date first before putting a ring on it."
Upon hearing this, Eddie couldn't help but laugh. He felt like he was dying inside, I knew that much. He was a young adult and it was the first time he felt truly broken because of someone else. But still, he managed to laugh. And after that, he managed to look at his grandfather. Even when he asked something that could have led to an answer he didn't want to hear.
"Are you like them?" he began, pushing his damp from sweaty emotions hair out of his eyes and bravely continuing. "Are you like my parents and think that I don't love her? Do you think that I don't really love her because she's apparently never looked at me the same way?"
Though James had been calm and wise before, he was still human. And he was still that young adult's grandfather. It bought him hurt that he was going through potentially not being loved back. He shook his head and looked at him honestly. (He also tried not to annoy him with his eyes.)
"Oh, Eddie, you and only you can decide how you feel about someone. And I don't believe it's not love if she doesn't feel the same way. In fact, I think it's brave. Really brave. Somehow maybe even more lovely."
The dual haired male looked at his grandfather in surprise before his hazel eyes narrowed slightly. He shrugged his shoulders almost bitterly.
"You mean lovely as in pathetic? I don't want you to think my feelings are wonderful because I'm the poor sap who didn't get loved back."
James chuckled lightly and I did too. He used the palm of his hand to push all of his hair from his eyes. He continued chuckling before shaking his head. He carried on what he was saying.
"I think the way that you feel about her is lovely and not in a pitying way." He reassured him, looking down at his own lap when Eddie did. He shrugged. "I don't know. I know you said you didn't want to be angel buddies but maybe it's too late. I know how you feel. And maybe I'm one of the true people who really does know how you feel. I know you're not some guy getting a twinkle in his eye for a younger girl."
Eddie found himself nodding his head.
"Yeah." He couldn't help but agree, moving slightly closer on the bed to his grandfather for comfort. Though he didn't look at him, he squinting like he was. "The first reaction from a lot of people was distasteful. But it's not about her. I like her. I really like her. For who she is as a person. Not all that other stuff."
His last few sentences were more thoughtful and quiet. James smiled to himself and fist bumped his shoulder lightly. He understood and so did I. Eddie had a thing surrounding him since a young age that he was babe magnet. It probably came from Gary joking that he was like his father. He had a reputation of having a lot of girls. He had had his fair few but he was a good guy. And he knew this. But when it came to Morgan, it was like she understood this without him having to tell her.
James continued nodding at his grandson's words. As he spoke, he kept giving him little glances. He was inwardly glad to see that his tears had dried up.
"That's some people for you though. Some people make love sound dirty and overly I don't even know. But I've seen the way you look at her. It's like you know there's more to her than meets the eye and like you want to show her there's more to you than meets the eye too. It's pure. And it's real for you. Even if she doesn't feel the same way back."
The lavender haired male's words had started off uplifting but they had taken a turn. They weren't exactly negative. But they were true. And that's why they hurt. But Eddie figured that if Morgan could be brave enough to tell him the truth, then he needed to be brave and accept it.
He met his grandfather's eyes with tears in them and a sad smile on his face.
"Who would have thought it, eh? Eddie Oak finally had true feelings. Real feelings that people could see. And the girl could see them too. But the girl couldn't reciprocate."
His words like his smile were brave. But they made James feel something else. He felt tenderness for his grandson. He didn't hesitate to wrap his arms tightly around him and hold him comfortingly. Eddie was caught off guard and he had already showed off too much of his sensitive side. He rested his cheek half awkwardly on James' chest and his hand gripped his shoulder. But he shut his eyes. And he tried to keep the tears in. He swallowed. Keeping his eyes shut made him keep the bravery up. He whispered.
"Do you think she'll always be there…?" he asked, his hand clenching tighter around his young grandfather's shoulder. He moved closer to him. "Do you think she'll always be around?"
He was desperate for reassurance. James couldn't possibly tell him. He loved Morgan like a daughter and he wanted her around. But he knew, like Lynne and the other angels, nobody could know when they might have to go back for a very long period. But James had never been able to admit this much. He held Eddie closer and nodded his head.
"Yes. Yes, she will be around." He mumbled to him and pressed a kiss to his half curly locks from not getting the time to blow dry them. His hands held his shoulders as he hugged him. "She'll be around. She might need to be with someone else more. Someone else might need her. She might become someone's wife. But you might have her as something more."
A tear slid sadly down Eddie's cheek upon hearing this and though his eyes remained closed, he laughed. He sniffed the rest of his tears away and managed to speak through his pain.
"She might be my guardian angel. And then in that case, I really have won more than anything else. I might not get her romantic love, but I'll get her guidance. And if I keep that in mind, I'll realise that Eddie Oak never loses."
I laughed at his last sentence and James did too. But from the other side of the door, like all of us, I was emotional.
Eddie's first true connection ended in heartache. He was loved back, but not in the way he thought he needed. It turned out; it was because the universe had bigger plans for him. Or maybe, if Morgan really was his guardian angel, it was because she had bigger plans for him.
She saw the potential in him. Like she said, she saw his funny side and his witty side and his soft side. With her going back and forth, maybe she knew that she wasn't worthy of it. Someone else was. Eddie felt like he had to let Morgan go because he loved her. The truth was, maybe Morgan did the exact same thing too.
The End.
There you go! Thank you so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 I think this was one of the first chapters I wrote in 2018. Like I mentioned a few chapters ago, I've really been into developing the character of Eddie recently. And it was almost fun to put him through this heartache. Like Gary, he has a reputation for liking the ladies but like you can see here, he is sweet. And he shows off traits of his grandfather, James, with his romantic side. I'll hopefully write one day about the day Eddie in a way hands Morgan over to Dylan. He'll feel a little weird about it at first but especially after he gets with the person he eventually ends up with, he realises it works out for the best. Dylan's character needs Morgan's ways a lot more than Eddie and he suits the lifestyle of her flitting between 'up there' and down on earth. It all works out in the end :P Thanks again and I will be back next Wednesday with another chapter so see you then!
