Hello :P It is not Wednesday but I am back with this weeks upload today. I'm not surprised that I ended up writing this. I have gotten really into the movie "Moana" lately and her character and her relationships with people reminded me of Morgan. So I wrote this! This is about Morgan who is Jordan's little sister that died when she was four and Jordan was fourteen. It is also about Lynne too. But it doesn't happen in my regular timeline for the gang. It's an AU of if Morgan never died and she lived at the Cerulean Gym with Jordan, Lynne, Daisy, Violet, Lily and Misty. I hope you enjoy! It might be a concept that I write more about :P
Ages in the AU:
Morgan: 18
Lynne: 30
Disclaimer: I own the OCs mentioned :3
As I closed my eyes and pressed my forehead against the sleeping and blonde little girl, my eyelids soon started twitching and we began dreaming together. We didn't dream of a fantasy land. We didn't dream of something in the future. We didn't dream of something in the past. Together, we dreamt of something that could have been. And if our dreams had wonderfully been reality, then some people would have been saved from a whole lot of pain. A lot of people, in fact.
In our dream the blonde haired young lady bit her lip and kept padding barefoot along the cape, her green eyes darting from side to side in her eyes and flickering. They then focused behind her as her head turned. She kept on walking, her little feet and legs gaining speed as each second past. She hurried along. She was hiding. She was trying not to get caught.
She continued to dart forward and soon enough she reached the rocks and the edges of the water. Even though she remained looking serious and even slightly suspicious, her innocent orbs couldn't help but brighten up a fraction when she saw the serene and shimmering blue. That gave her even more energy. That gave her even more drive. She started skipping further towards the water and she hopped onto one of the most secure rocks, intending on climbing onto all of them and getting as far out to see as she could.
Before I could even hear her name in her dream being called by someone else and before she could even mutter it herself, I knew exactly who she was within moments. It didn't take a genius to figure out the identity of the blonde young lady. She was small and sleek. She had pretty eyes and a pretty face. She had long tumbling and yellow locks, the exact same shade as somebody else I was very close to. Her face was innocent and it was sweet but it was intelligent and mischievous too. As the young lady continued clambering onto the rocks, then using both her hands and feet, there was no doubt in my mind who she was. She was Morgan. And she was a teenager.
My (correct) assumptions were proven just a few minutes later when, from snoozing on the sofa with the child version of Morgan, I heard some footsteps on the grass. They were light and they were airy but they were definitely footsteps. They, however, were not rhythmic. They were not constant. They were not consistent. I heard a few. Then I didn't hear a few. And then I heard a few more!
And once again, my brain started ticking in my slumber. I thought that I wouldn't have been correct more than once in my dreams but I was proven wrong about that. In my sleep, I was shown that I knew the people around me very much, even by just their footsteps. I knew who was about to approach the blonde haired young lady. I knew exactly who it was. And I was so thrilled to be right.
"Morgan!" Lynne called obviously but airily to the younger female before she had even spotted her, her delicate hands being used to push through the shrubbery that Morgan had previously darted through. She took a break from hiking in the hot summer sun and put her hands on her hips before picking out bits of leaves that had decided to reside in her hair. After a quiet breath, she decided to continue, pushing forward through all the greenery and continuing to look for Jordan's little sister. "Morgan? C'mon you have to be here."
After speaking more quietly and in a slightly out of breath way, the orange haired female, once again, called her husband's little sisters name with some more gusto. That's what did it. That's indeed what did it. Morgan definitely heard the third and louder call and because she had been looking behind her for anyone spying on her the entire time, she jumped when she heard the voice of Lynne. In fact, she jumped so much and because she couldn't see where she was going, her foot slipped on the slippery rock and she nearly tumbled face first into the water! I gasped in my sleep. But thankfully, in the alternate world that Morgan and I were dreaming about, Lynne didn't hesitate to dart forward and assist the younger female.
Though she was almost as clumsy as the yellow haired female in her own way, Lynne didn't hesitate to swiftly hitch up her dress with one hand and dart along the rocks behind Morgan, grabbing hold of her hand before she tumbled in. She was saved right at the last moment. She was pulled to the older female's side, both of them panting for different reasons.
Just a few seconds after recovering, Morgan moved a fraction away from Lynne and she ran her fingers through her hair, feeling the beads of water dripping along the strands from the splashes she had made hopping rock to rock. After shaking her hand to dry it, she gave the older female a shrug.
"It wouldn't have been the worst thing if you had let me fall in." she mumbled to her big brother's wife, her words contrasting her eyes that were showing a flicker of gratitude over her being saved. Lynne's eyes showed something different. They blinked at her words at first. Mine did too. But we both continued listening, from dream land and from the alternate world as Morgan continued with yet another shrug. "I would've liked it."
Upon hearing this, all of the worry of the close call involving Morgan faded away off Lynne's face and a smiley expression took over instead. She nodded her head in agreement, her own fingers moving to redo the side plait hair style she her ginger locks were tied into. She agreed with her fondly.
"Yes, you do love the water, don't you?" she spoke to the younger female softly and the young lady kept quiet and wrinkled her nose, unsure whether to agree with her or not. Lynne didn't mind. She continued contentedly, still fixing her plait. "I knew I'd find you here."
In that moment, the eighteen year old knew how to respond to the orange haired female. She continued wrinkling her nose but that time it was in a scowling way rather than an action as she didn't speak. She turned away from Lynne before turning back towards her to prove a point, pretending to curtsy.
"Yes I do love the water. And I suppose you've come to follow me because Jordan saw me leaving and wants me away from here? Alright, alright, I get it. Coming, Ma'am."
If Morgan had stopped being stubborn and putting on her little sarcastic show, she would have seen Lynne shaking her head in disagreement right from the second part of her words. But she didn't. She didn't see. She continued getting the wrong idea, turning away from her once again before crouching down to the level of the water. She spoke once again.
"I'll come back in a second." She mumbled and went quieter as she reached her finger down to trace the feeling of the water before her stubborn and perhaps even a little rebellious side took over once again. She spoke louder, her eyebrow quirking up just a fraction. "Are you going to watch over me? Make sure that I do actually follow you?"
"Oh, Morgan." Lynne answered the younger female quickly for once but certainly not harshly; it was in a very gentle and fond way as she put her hands on her hips. And before she clarified what she meant right away, she left the yellow haired female pondering for a few seconds as she climbed onto a separate rock from her and seated herself on it herself. Her own hands moved into the water, enjoying the feel of it and her eyes enjoying how clear it was as it enveloped her hands. She contrasted her soft and easy-going expression with a slight smirk. "You're not right about everything, you know that? I love it here just as much as you do. I'm happy to stay."
And with that, the orange haired gladly went back to observing the water, humming to herself and peering into the clear and blue serenity of the ocean. This left Morgan quiet and even slightly stunned. But she remained raising an eyebrow, her head tilted on one side as she studied Lynne while she studied the ocean. She thought to herself for a few moments.
At first, she didn't buy it. Lynne had pointed out to her that she wasn't always right about everything and she wasn't so egotistical to think that she was. But she knew that she was right a lot of the time. Because she was quiet and she was intuitive. While other people were talking and gossiping and missing everything while gibbering, she was often silent and observational. So she understood people very well, even if she couldn't relate to them. She felt their characters. She felt their intentions. She felt their goodness. She had always felt it coming from Lynne. She knew she was a good one. She wouldn't have let her near her big brother otherwise!
She knew that she was a good person. But in that moment, she couldn't tell if she was being truthful or not. She really felt that she had been sent to keep her away from the water; after all, she had noticed Jordan getting more and more protective of her as she got older. As well as being intuitive and stubborn, Morgan also saw things from both sides a lot of the time. She then got a different perspective.
She knew that Lynne did adore the ocean as much as she did, after all, it was the reason that she'd met Jordan aka her husband. The oceans and the sea were a special place to the orange haired female. It was like a second home to her. And the more that Morgan thought about it, the more she realised it to be true.
Lynne stood up from crouching and peering into the water and she began twirling on the rocks instead, hitching her dress up and almost dancing. She began humming that soft and mesmerising tune to herself that she had begun singing previously, continuing to twirl while looking at all of the seabirds above.
Morgan's raised eyebrow had since levelled out but upon seeing her brother's wife twirling and humming along with the ocean waves, it soon quirked up on her face once again. She tried to stop herself from saying it but she just came out with it. She looked over at Lynne, her head remaining tilted.
"You're really weird, you know that, right?" she asked the older female and also somewhat just told her, waiting for a response. She soon got one. Lynne stopped twirling and she looked over at the younger female, her own head tilted. Morgan went quieter. She thought her words were slightly unnecessary but she hadn't meant them in a mean way. She was just telling her the truth. She was blunt, like her big brother. Morgan looked back at Lynne, her eye contact unmoving. The orange haired female soon shrugged and nodded and went back to twirling. She answered the younger female with a nod of her head. Morgan continued. "You do know that you're weird? And you're not bothered by it?"
Once again, Lynne just nodded her head in response to the blonde haired young lady's words and this left the younger female feeling very baffled. But then she found herself feeling rather fascinated. Her head stayed tilted on one side and she smirked to herself as she looked up at the orange haired female. Morgan was about to open her mouth and speak but Lynne got there before her. She stopped twirling on the rocks with the waves and started swaying with them instead. She spoke with a smile and in a soft way.
"So what if I'm weird? At least I'm consistent." She told the younger female and this left her feeling bewildered once again rather than fascinated. I was then the one feeling the latter way as I dreamed. Lynne didn't hesitate to continue, crouching down again and not minding when the ocean lapped at the hem of her dress. "At least people know if they see me, I'm probably going to do something weird. They know what to expect, and I deliver. Besides, everyone is weird. There's just some that's widely accepted and some that's not."
Morgan didn't expect it but she found herself starting to think to herself after Lynne said those words to her. She looked down at her bare feet as the ocean tickled at them as well. She showed off a tiny and thoughtful smile. She had called Lynne 'weird' but she hadn't meant it in a mean way. And she didn't mean it in a mean way either when she thought to herself that Lynne's words didn't often make her think.
She was normally such an airy and playful person. Sure, she was deep but that wasn't a side of her that she often showed to Morgan – it was more like fun and games and girl power. But Lynne was indeed deep. And she was right when she said she was consistent too. She was. The yellow haired female then crinkled her nose and poked at her wet toes, assisting the sea in swirling around them. She couldn't stop herself from mumbling to Lynne.
"Yeah, I guess I agree with you. Everybody needs stability in their life but sometimes it gets too much." She muttered and right away, the orange haired female knew what she was about to start getting out but she waited for her to just come out and say it. Morgan didn't hesitate to do so. She plonked her bottom down on the rock, not caring when she got rather soaked. "But too much rules and protection is boring. It borders on controlling."
Upon hearing these words, Lynne's easy-going and gentle expression changed to a more serious and thoughtful one as she listened to the younger female. She bit her lip. It was true that Lynne wasn't often serious with Morgan but Morgan could be quite serious with Lynne. She opened up to her a lot. Nobody blamed her; the sweet thing had been through so much in her life.
The orange haired female let out a quiet breath and tucked a loose stand of hair behind her ear.
"You're talking about Jordan, aren't you?" Lynne asked the younger female gently but seriously, not feeling as though it was the time to call her a pet name like she would have normally done. It was soon to be a tender subject. The orange haired female knew she was right with her words before Morgan kept quiet, only proving her correctness further. She shook her head slightly but didn't hint why. "I'm really not here following you because Jordan sent me. He didn't at all. He's been with Misty and working on the boats all day. I saw you leave and was worried about you. I like you, Morgan. I like talking to you. We're family; we have been for a very long time. And families care."
The yellow haired female just nodded her head and continued looking down at her feet and the ocean meeting, not feeling ready at that moment to begin talking properly to Lynne. In my sleep, I started grinning to myself and not for reasons that you would have thought. Granted, Lynne's words were very nice and sweet. But it wasn't that. Misty had been mentioned. My best friend's orange haired wife had been mentioned. And because Morgan was just a teenager and Lynne was no older than 30, Misty must have been a baby or a toddler and that made me beam.
I couldn't stop myself from smiling and thinking about a small version of her babbling to Jordan and toddling after him, both of them lapping up every moment with each other. It was a special thought. It was a precious thought. And I would've continued imagining it if I hadn't had to focus on Morgan when she was ready to start talking instead.
The yellow haired young lady let out a quiet sigh and she hesitated, almost shaking her head at herself before just coming out with it. She shrugged, tucking a loose strand of her behind her ear at the same time that Lynne did. Her lips formed into a slight pout. She was very intelligent and smart but, like her big brother, some of the time she didn't feel the most comfortable talking about feelings.
"I believe you, Lynne, I do. But c'mon, you've seen him, haven't you? All of a sudden he's getting so protective and trying to keep me in the gym or looking after the other kids and if he does let me go out in the ocean, he always wants to come with me. I love spending time with him, I really do, but it's too much. I can feel him smothering me. I'm a teenager. Technically an adult too. Yet he's trying to protect me far more than he did when I was half the age I am now!"
I could see from Lynne's face and Morgan could too that the orange haired female had indeed noticed this about her husband. She started biting her lip again and tried to think of reasons to defend Jordan and reassure Morgan at the same time. In present day, Morgan and I both turned over in our sleep, making us feel even closer and affirming that we were sharing the same dream.
In the alternate land, the yellow haired teenaged girl looked back down at her feet as Lynne took a while to respond to her. She finally did. Morgan remained looking away but she did listen.
"I must admit that I've noticed him getting a bit more protective and even though we haven't spoken about it, I kind of understand why. He's so new to this. He knows that you're a teenager and partially an adult and he's still trying to figure out how to treat you as you grow up and how far he's going to let you wander. Try and see things from his point of view."
Morgan was so many things. She was caring. She was loyal. She was selfless. But she was also rebellious. She was unpredictable. And she was stubborn. My goodness, was she stubborn!
She had been frowning at Lynne's words as she felt like the older woman was taking her brothers side and by the end of the words she was positively scowling. She stood up on the rocks and looked down at Lynne, her arms folding over her chest. She shook her head.
"Well, why doesn't he involve me in this conversation about how I should be treated as an adult? It's my life. And he's not my Dad!" Morgan insisted to Lynne and straight away, the orange haired Gym Leader winced and swallowed, just listening to the younger female getting everything off her chest. Morgan was close to ranting but as her eyebrows knotted together, she decided to focus on one issue at a time. "Maybe he should see things from my point of view too. He doesn't know what it's like for me. Everything I do is tied to him. I help him with the gym. I help him with the boats. I watch out for Misty. I help out with the other three. And then when I just want to go out and be in the sea by myself, that's too much to ask? It's ridiculous. He doesn't know what it's like. The ocean calls me. And I can't ignore it. No matter how hard I try."
All of this was a lot for Lynne to take in and it was a lot for me to take in in my sleep as well. I smiled sympathetically as I dreamed, rolling over to be closer to Morgan. I understood very well where she was coming from. It did seem unfair but at the same time, I knew Jordan very well. I knew that he was one of the gentlest guys on the planet. Everything he did came from a good place. He made mistakes but everything he did came from a good place. Perhaps a protective place, but a good one.
The orange haired female breathed out as she took in all of her husband's little sisters words and she stood up to show her that she was really listening. She looked over at Morgan even though the younger female was staring down at the ocean below with tears threatening to prick her eyes. Lynne held a hand to her heart.
"I know it does, Morgan, I know it does. And you know what? It calls to Jordan too. He loves it out there. But sometimes the negative voices and thoughts in his head are louder than the calls from the ocean. He just wants to protect you. He knows better than anyone what you both went through back in Johto and even though he didn't agree with it, sometimes he has a voice in his head telling him to keep you safe at the shore and by his side. I don't know what it is. Loyalty to your parents? I don't know. But he wants to keep you safe. For him. For you. Maybe even them."
"He is them." Morgan suddenly told Lynne abruptly, looking over at her with tears pooling in her eyes. She wiped them away roughly and jutted her chin out as she insisted. Lynne's eyes filled with worry even more and her hand gripped tighter over her heart. "He acts like them. You say he's protective but I think he's been controlling. He-"
"Don't you ever say that." The orange haired female suddenly interjected Morgan adamantly but not rudely. She shook her head. Her voice was shaking as well. Her own eyes were filling with tears as she couldn't believe the words she was hearing. She didn't hesitate to hop onto Morgan's rock with her and disagree with her words as she continued shaking her head. "Don't ever say that about him. He is not them. He couldn't be further from being them. He loves you, Morgan. He wants you safe. He'd be so upset if he knew you were feeling this way. He loves you. Far more than any brother loves his little sister. He adores you. He adores you, Morgan."
As I mentioned before, the yellow haired female wasn't always the most comfortable with expressing her innermost and deepest feelings but after she did, she often felt very overwhelmed and drained. And she showed it that day. She broke down into many more tears and she fell into the orange haired female's arms. Lynne didn't hesitate to hold her close, stroking her hair.
She didn't say any words to the younger female, she didn't need to. She had said it all. She had told Morgan how much she meant to Jordan and she meant it. My goodness, did she mean it. It was the truth. And Morgan knew it was the truth. Even though she had been slightly afraid of feeling her brother growing more and more protective and even though she had said the words, she knew that he was nothing like them. He was nothing like their parents. He was nothing like their brothers. He was everything like Morgan. He was everything like himself. And thank goodness for it!
The two female's remained hugging and they remained being silent for a good few minutes, the ocean doing all of the whispering around them. But after a while, Lynne felt Morgan pulling away from her chest and she didn't hesitate to look into the younger female's eyes. Even though they were both adults, Lynne wiped the remaining tears away from Morgan's face and she cupped her cheeks in her hands. She told her. She told her most sincerely.
"I understand how you feel about the ocean, Morgan, I really do. And I understand how you feel about Jordan too. But you mustn't worry. Any time you want to come out here, I will come with you. I will give you space but I will be here. And we can talk to Jordan. Once you know who you are and what you want, there's no stopping you. You've just got to tell someone. You've told me and the next step is telling Jordan. But I understand that's hard for you both. And that's okay. In the meantime, I'm happy to be here with you and I'm happy to paddle with you. I feel the same way about the sea. And I feel the same way about you too. I love you both. So much."
Even though Lynne had most definitely told the yellow haired female those words before and even if she hadn't and she had guessed them to be true, it was still a slightly surprising thing for the yellow haired female to hear. She blinked her green orbs up at the older female before ducking her head shyly. Her cheeks blushed but she continued holding onto her. Lynne didn't hesitate to move forward and plant a sweet kiss on her forehead and after she did this, Morgan knew that she had to just come out with it.
And it wasn't a potential rude and observational comment like her last one had been. It was something sweet. It was something very sweet indeed. And true.
Shyly but sturdily, she held onto Lynne's arms even further and looked right at her. She nodded her head as she said her words. She nodded her head as she affirmed her words. They were most definitely true. So she just came out with them.
"I… I… Lynne, you're very special to me too. I can't thank you enough for the happiness you've given my brother. I don't know where he'd be without you. I don't know where I'd be without you. Like you said before, we're family. We are family, Lynne, all of us. And I'm so glad to have had a second one. Because you're not second in my mind. You're so important. You're right up front. You're all my family. And I all love you so much."
The two sweet ladies embraced upon getting their loving words off their chest and as soon as I did so, I heard Morgan in the present day rustling under her blanket as she started to wake up. I began seeing the white light of coming back to reality as well. But not until I'd seen and heard something else that was wonderful. It came from a place of fear and worry and a slight glimpse into the future, but it was heart-warming.
In the alternate world, after hugging onto Morgan, Lynne's hands went back to her face and she looked right into her sincere eyes. She stroked her cheek. She looked at the younger female, seriously but trustingly. She breathed out.
"I know that I don't have to ask you this. I know that you'll always be there for Jordan. I know that you'll always look after him." She told him, her breath getting shakier with each sentence but at the same time, her eyes being filled with even more certainty. "I know that I don't have to ask you this. But do you promise that you will? Will you look after Jordan always? Will you promise?"
Like Lynne said herself, she knew that she didn't have to say these words to Morgan. She knew what the answer would be. But she had to be reminded of it. She had to hear the younger female's sincere and truthful words. She had to hear Morgan's sincere and truthful answer. And she got it. She didn't actually get it with words. She got it with something even better.
As the ocean swirled around both of their ankles and wet the hems of their dresses, Morgan gave Lynne a massive hug. It was a hug that promised what she was asking her. It was a hug of understanding. It was a hug of strength. It was a hug of unity.
Everything was going to be okay. Even if it seemed like it wasn't going to be okay, it would be in the end. There would be losses, there would be heartache, and there would be confusion. But it would be okay in the end. As long as they continued talking. As long as they continued laughing. As long as they continued hugging. As long as they continued listening each time that the ocean whispered to them, everything was going to be okay. And it was. All because they all stayed together in their little alternate world.
The End.
There you go! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 This touched on a lot of important stuff, especially Morgan's pull to the ocean and how much she adores it. I wrote another one about that but I like this story better! It also brings up an important subject of Jordan's protectiveness and how, even though he doesn't agree with the fact that their parents kept Morgan safe and away from the ocean, he feels a sort of loyalty to do what they wish even though they're in Kanto and having a whole new life. He also doesn't really know how to treat Morgan when she's nearing adulthood. Luckily for him in this AU, he can practice on her and be a good father to teenagers with his daughter! At the end of the story, Lynne is hinting that she thinks she might not always be around for Jordan but Morgan will, due to a cancer diagnosis she hasn't told anyone about. I think I probably will end up writing more about this AU! :P Thanks again and I will be back next Wednesday with another chapter of Pikachu Tales so see you then!
