Chapter 4: Auction
Loud banging made Rogue jump up from her sleep, softly yelping in pain from her injuries as Richter goes around several cells to wake all the girls up. Blink rubs her eyes, then gets up, noticing Rogue trying to soothe her pain. "What's going on?" Rogue asks groggily.
"We're being moved, though they might take some of us out of line for a small auction here before finally moving out." Blink helps her up, her eyes carefully watching Ricther.
Richter opens some cells, putting cuffs on the ladies and having another man guide them out. He gets to the cell Rogue, Blink and a few other girls were in and grins. "Wake up sleeping beauties. Moving day." He says.
Rogue instinctively got into a fighting position, but Blink places a hand on her shoulder and gives her a firm look while shaking her head. Richter tugs Rogue out, putting cuffs on her, then shoves her to his partner who guides her down the hall, Blink following behind her. She watches as Regan looks at both guys and girls to see which one's he wants to auction off first, having a few be pulled off to the side. When she gets to him, he smirks and motions Marcus to put her off to the side, Blink frowning. Rogue looks at her for help, but she just shakes her head.
Bishop stood in front of Remy in line, muttering to not cause a scene. Remy, on the other hand, was trying to make a plan, but his heart stops when he sees Rogue off to the side with a few other girls. "Merde…" He mumbles.
Regan has Marcus take over for him, while he goes to a small group of men that were waiting patiently. "Gentleman, how are you doing today? Here to but a mutant?" He smiles pleasantly.
"See you got a few newer muties here. Mind if we take a look." One larger man says, adjusting his coat.
"Of course, go take a look." Regan motions to the small group he had.
Some of the men went to see a few of the boys that were lined up, bargaining with Richter on price, while the other half went up to the girls. Rogue kept her head down, trying not to be seen as the other girls were being looked at. "What can this one do?" A stockier man asks, motioning to Rogue.
"Why don't ya take this collar off an' fahnd out." She snaps.
"She's got a temper." The stockier man grins. "I like that."
"We're not sure yet. She came in yesterday with a guy. Pain in the ass, broke my nose." Richter answers, rubbing his still bruised nose.
"Well, ya deserved it." Rogue mumbles.
Richter eyes her, shoving her into the wall with a dangerous look on his face. "What'd you say?"
"Ah said ya deserved it!" Rogue snarls.
"You bitch." Richter goes to raise his hand, but the stockier man stops him.
"Don't hurt her, I'm thinking of buying her."
Richter growls, letting her go. Rogue glares at the man. "Ah'm not fer sale."
"Darling, if you're here, then you are for sale." The stockier man sneers.
Remy was being shoved to the exit of the ship, but he maneuvers his way out of grasp and rushes to where Rogue was, Marcus yelling after him. Bishop curses under his breath. "Step forward girl, you're being bid on." Regan demands.
"Lahke hell." Rogue spits.
"I'll start with 20,000." The stockier man bids.
"Anyone bidding any higher?" Regan asks.
"40,000!" Another man offers.
Rogue felt her stomach drop. This wasn't really happening, was it? She hears the stockier man go higher, another man bidding another amount. "Alright, any final bids? We got this one going for 70,000." Regan announces.
"One million," Rogue hears a familiar voice say. "An' don' touch 'er."
"What?!" Richter shouts.
"What makes you think you could bid on her when you are also a mutant?" The stockier man chortles.
Remy smirks. "'M a prince o' t'ieves. An' she's mine. Now y' let 'er go."
Regan sighs. "This auction is closed. Louis if you still want to "outbid" this gentleman, we'll be in Japan."
The stockier man grumbles, walking away, while Richter guides Rogue to the exit of the ship to be put with the other girls on the train. Rogue gives Remy a grateful smile, him smiling back lightly at her, then he growls when Marcus hits him. "Get back in line, mutie! Move it!"
He gets back in line, meeting up with Bishop again on the train car. He noticed Rogue get on one two cars down, his heart fluttering. She was safe for now. He made sure of it. "Are you crazy?" Bishop chides.
"Saved 'er from gettin' sold didn' I?" Remy remarks.
Bishop sighs. "You got a death sentence."
"Possibly." Remy shrugs.
Once the trains were filled, they head out on a long ride to California. Rogue sits on the floor, Blink coming to sit down next to her. "And here I thought you got sold off." Blink looks at her in a bit of surprise.
"Remy actually came an' put a bid on meh." Rogue chuckles lightly.
"Really?" Blink's brows raise. "That's a first. He must really like you to not let anyone else get you."
"Ah guess ya can say that." Rogue looks down with a small smile.
"Is he your boyfriend?" Blink asks.
"Well, no…" Rogue's small smile turned into a sad one. "Mah powahs aren't exactly…safe. If ah had this collar off and ah took a glove off an' touch ya skin, ah could take yer powahs, yer thoughts an' y' psyche. An' then ah could use yer powahs fer a short period. There's always a risk of puttin' someone in a coma, dependin' on how long ah hang on ta someone fer."
"Whoa…" Blink stares at her. "That's pretty cool though."
"Yeah, but ah'm rendered useless unless ah touch someone. Ah can't access previous powahs that ah've absorbed so all ah got is mah hand ta hand combat skills, but even those can't help meh at tahmes." Rogue sighs.
"Well, it seems to me from what you have told me so far is that Remy really cares for you. I think he's in love with you," Blink smiles to cheer her up, nudging her a bit. "If you get to see him again, you can show him your appreciation since these collars prevent you from using your powers."
Rogue blushes a bit. "But… ah don't know if ah'll see him again. Ah realleh hope ta, ah'm tryin' ta get outta heah."
Blink smiles more. "Just think of his as your knight in shining armor. Have you two known each other for a while?"
"Welll…." Rogue starts, making a face. "When we first met… we were on… different sides. Ya know the mutant Magneto?" Blink nods. "Well, he was workin' fer him an' we ran inta each othah on this battlefield, but he didn't attack at first. He had this..mesmerizing look and energy ta him, lahke ah couldn't take mah eyes off of him, but he couldn't take his eyes off of meh. He got closah ta meh and then gave meh a card and used his powers ta charge it up, then ran away. So that was our first meetin'. Ah've ran inta him a couple othah tahmes, he even came ta mah rescue with one of mah teammates when ah was under anothah mutants control ta wake up Apocalypse. Last tahme ah saw him, he…uh… "kidnapped" meh…"
"Wait what?" Blink was listening intently, staring at her in shock.
"Well, he needed mah help! Ah guess he had no othah way of doin' it cause ah wouldn' go willingly. But anyway, his dad was kidnapped by this guild called the Assassin's Guild an' he needed mah help ta fahnd him, but ah found out some things and almost abandoned him but ah went back ta help because… he did the right thing fer the wrong reasons. And then after we saved his dad and mah family came, we split-he went with his dad ta go figure things out at the Thieves guild while ah went back home ta help mah family. But after we defeated Apocalypse, he came knockin' on our door outta knowhere. He joined our team an'… he's always tryin' ta get close ta meh. He pushes mah buttons sometahmes, but he's not afraid of mah powahs…."
Blink examined Rogue's face. "You're in love with him too, aren't you?"
Rogue looks away from her. "Ah can't because of mah powahs."
"They don't seem to bother him though. He must he head over heels to not have given up chasing you." Blink smiles. "Give him a chance. Besides, maybe he could help you control your powers."
Rogue looks at her and gives her a small smile. "Ya know, if we weren't in this crappy situation, ah think you an' ah would be great friends."
"I think so too." Blink nods in agreement.
"If ya ever get free from heah, you should check out Bayville. There's a school fer mutants called Xavier's School fer the Gifted. Raght now it got blown ta bits by Sentinels, but ah'm soah mah teammates are fixin' it up."
"I'll have to take Bishop with me." Blink smiles.
Remy runs a hand through his hair as he sat against the wall, Bishop looking at him. "It's going to be hard for them to sell your girl now."
"Good, I hope so." Remy glances up.
"It's rare for them to get mutants coming in pairs, though I came here with my friend Blink, but our situation isn't like yours."
"What do y' mean?" Remy looked at him questionably.
"Most of the time they bring in mutants who were alone. They usually don't find mutants who are together, or even in relationships often, they mostly look for the ones that they can get alone."
"Rogue was alone fo' a moment befo' I came out." Remy frowns.
"Yeah, well now you made her situation a little more sticky. Richter and Regan know you two are a pair, which could mean they might sell you two together or still go the separation route."
"Well, 'd rat'er be sold wit' 'er den wit'out 'er." Remy shrugs. "But 'm gon' get us outta heah befo' dat can happen."
Bishop shakes his head. "You are definitely going to get yourself killed."
"Assassin's have tried befo' an' dey haven' succeeded." Remy shrugs with a small smirk.
The train slows down into a station near the city of Del Mar, the train cars opening up as men usher the mutants out of the cars and to another shipyard. Remy peers over the crowd, Bishop trying to tell him to remain in his position but he spots Rogue and immediately pushes his way to get to her. Bishop curses under his breath and follows, but noticed Blink with her and felt a bit of relief. "Rogue!" Remy calls out, feeling relieved as he found her.
Rogue turns her head, her eyes widening. "Remy!"
He pushes his way to her, stopping in front of her with a smile. Rogue felt like she could cry but instead hit him in the chest with her bound hands. "What were ya thinkin' swamp rat?!" She shouts at him, but felt relieved to see him again.
He winces but smiles at her. "Nice t' see y' again t'."
"Oh now I see what you meant from earlier." Blink comments.
Rogue snaps her head towards her, a light blush on her cheeks. "Y' must be Blink?" Remy questions.
"How'd you know?" Blink asks.
"Blink!" Bishop calls out.
"Bishop! Damn I thought you were sold." Blink smiles.
"Not yet. Glad to see you're still here. Now we really must keep going or they'll catch us." Bishop shakes his head.
"What? No, Ah ain't goin' anywhere without Remy." Rogue makes a face.
Remy smiles genuinely at Rogue, but it disappears when he hears voices yelling, the group of four walking, but talking lowly. "Don' worry 'm t'inkin' o' a plan t' get us outta heah." Remy whispers to Rogue.
"Ya bettah." Rogue gives him a firm look to which he responds with his signature smirk.
"'Ll find y'." He says before they got split up.
"Keep an eye on them." Regan commands to Richter as he eyes the two southerners.
"Yes sir." Richter nods.
Rogue looks over her shoulder as she was lead down an opposite hall to Remy's, him looking over his shoulder at her until she was out of his line of sight. They get put in to new holding cells, Rogue sitting down on a small bed looking down at her gloves while Remy starts to come up with a plan. They get taken out to eat and roam their decks as the large ship starts to leave the port, the male mutants on one of the lowest decks while the girls were put on a floor above. "Ah didn't know we would get ta roam around." Rogue comments as her and Blink walked around.
"Yeah, but we can't go upstairs or downstairs. But at least we can stretch our legs." Blink shrugs. "The bidders and others are upstairs on all the upper decks. They treat us like the ships crew or third class like Titanic. This ship goes down, they don't care what happens to us."
Rogue bites her lip. Remy and Bishop were walking around for a while, then Remy slips away to sneak around. He was able to map out the lower decks and even a few of the other decks quickly and stealthily. Remy was able to find a weapons bay, stealthily stealing some explosive since he couldn't figure out how to take his collar off to use his powers. Bishop noticed he was missing and had decided to go look for him. "What are you doing?!" He hisses, making Remy jump a bit.
"Merde, what does it look like?" Remy sighs. "Now, I believe dis belongs t' y'."
He hands him a gun, having found it in a bin with his name on it. Remy found his Bo staff that they had confiscated and his cards, tucking them into his trench coat. Bishop examines his gun, then he looks at the Cajun. "You're going to get caught." He hisses.
"On de contrary, I won' cause 'm a good t'ief. I also found dis, but I don' t'ink 's like a universal remote fo' all collars." Remy holds up a remote to Bishop. "Tried it on m'self and it didn' unlock, but maybe it unlocks y's?"
Bishop takes it, holding it up to his collar, hearing a beep and a clank as it fell off. His eyes widen. "So.. now what?" Bishop asks as he felt his powers flow through him like normal again.
Remy smirks. "Now we get off dis ship."
A/N: Time to escape! Or will they?
Stay tuned!
