Hello :P It is Wednesday and I am back to upload a new chapter. Today is actually also the Morgan twins of Justin and Jazmyn's birthday as well so I have chosen this one to upload! This one focuses on Justin - I do have one with both of the twins in but it focuses on something else as well so I'm going with this one instead. It tackles a lot of his different relations and is being uploaded on the day of his birthday. Like the title suggests, it's breakfast time and it's Misty, James Ketchum, Jorgie and Justin - all when he needs to be reminded of a bit of fun. And little James is there to remind him they have a little team going on as well. I hope you all enjoy :3
Ages:
Jorgie: 2
James: 8
Justin: 21
Misty: 34
Rey: 4
Disclaimer: I own the story and the OCs mentioned!
It was a peaceful day and I was feeling alive. It was surprisingly pleasant and warm weather for only the third month of the year and as the sun shone in through the window, it glowed on my back quite nicely. It sent warmth from my spine all the way down to my toes and the tips of my ears. Yes, I was most content. It was a lovely mid-morning with the people that I cared about but before I had a chance to look around and see (and hope) they were feeling the same as me, a rather shrill noise could be heard. I titled my head and saw Justin and Misty stopping their conversation and noticing it before I turned my head and found the culprit. They cried out a second time.
"No James! No!" the orange haired toddler exclaimed in quite an unhappy voice, her little face screwed up and her brow furrowed. Needless to say, her mouth was turned downwards in an upside down 'u' shape. She persisted. "No James! No!"
Because she was only two years old, the word "James" had more of a "d" sound in front of it compared how it was meant to be said. But nobody of course batted an eyelid at this. We did, however, all turn to see what Misty's chestnut haired son was doing in order to make Jorgie so unhappy.
We all looked. We all stared. She was sat in her chair ready for breakfast, her face still screwed up. The fellow slightly ginger haired little boy was sat opposite her, wearing his lounging clothes. And because his green orbs were wide and his mouth was hung slightly open, that bit of evidence along with him across the other end of the table from her made it obvious. He wasn't doing anything. He wasn't doing anything at all, let alone something wrong!
The youngest Ketchum son shook his head and went wider eyed when he saw his mother and Justin looking in their direction. His eyes filled with hurt as he defended himself.
"I'm not doing anything! I don't know why she's saying that, I'm not doing anything!" James couldn't stop himself from crying out back and as I sat on the counter top in the breakfast bar area, my body was warmed with not only the sun but Misty's son's sincerity too. I made sure to give him a smile. I believed him. I most certainly believed him. And thankfully, someone else piped up this as well.
"Don't worry; I know you're not doing anything." Justin reassured the younger boy while resting his hand on the counter top near me, his body still turned to face Misty as their conversation had only just been interrupted. He pushed his hair out of his eyes with his spare hand before gesturing it. He smiled empathetically. "Just don't react. She doesn't like it for a minute but then she sucks it up."
And while Misty smirked at her best friend's eldest son taking control of the situation, automatically, the chestnut haired young boy began to feel a whole lot better. Though he did move a little bit backwards on his seat and further away from his beloved (but testing) ginger friend, he nodded his head and listened to the older male's words. And he had a bit of a smile too. I couldn't help but notice that it was so much like his fathers. He had heard words of advice and wanted to live up to them. He was determined. I really did have great fondness for him.
"So where were we?" my best friend's orange haired wife turned her attention back to the deep purple haired male after she noticed that his words were proven correct – Jorgie persisted with trying to get James' attention for a few seconds longer after he stopped reacting but then she turned to socialise with Rey instead. The four year old girl was sat to the two year old girl's left and quietly drawing. After Justin handed his bit of paper back over to Misty once more, she remembered. She smiled. And then she smirked. "Ah yes. Oh yes. This is definitely them. This is definitely your parents. You've done well."
I innocently looked over at Misty and Justin, after getting caught up with the mini drama between the young Ketchum and the young Morgan-Williams; I had almost forgotten what the older ones were up to! But I too soon remembered. The deep purple haired male had been up late the night before concocting a song and he felt good about it enough to share it with the orange haired female. He smiled slightly bashfully at her complimenting it but then he grinned. He had felt good about it all by himself but was even more electrified that it'd gotten a seal of approval.
Misty handed the piece of paper back over to the younger male after reading through the words once more and after he accepted it back and folded it up, she pushed her bangs from her eyes. She looked at him curiously, her head tilting and her hand going out to casually stroke my warm head.
"How does this one sound?" she questioned with intrigue and I noticed that, for once, Justin felt a little bit on the spot. Before doing anything or making any sounds, he reached to scratch his own chin. He thought about it. He admitted that he wasn't actually quite sure and I agreed with him when he said that it was rare for him to have the words before the melody. But that didn't stop him from trying! Lots of people agreed that he was the spitting image of his father and incredibly inventive like him too but his drive and his ambition most certainly came from his mother.
"Maybe like this." He told Misty with words and then while putting the folded bit of paper in his back pocket, he started humming to her and mimicking guitar noises. She laughed as she listened but she nodded her head too. She knew that his ideas could be born out of the strangest of times. Justin stopped humming that version and got ready to try another, his eyes lighting up. That side of creativity really was very natural to him. "Or maybe-"
But before he could test out his second idea of the tune and melody for his new song that was inspired by the bright hair coloured pair that were his parents, the chestnut haired male did a rare thing. He interrupted. The look on his face showed off an apology and like he knew that it wasn't expected of him. But he couldn't help but do it anyway. He even folded his arms over his chest. He pouted.
"Mom, she's doing it again. Why does she keep doing that?" he asked with innocence but oncoming impatience also and after he turned his head to look back at the two year old toddler - we all did. I was last to look. I was too busy feeling deep adoration over the fact that it was the Ketchum children being the best-behaved. But eventually, we all caught sight of Jorgie.
The orange haired little girl had grown bored of watching Rey quietly drawing and pointing out colours to her and began sticking her tongue out determinedly instead as she started to try and climb out of her seat and across the table, towards little James. Her bottom was in mid-air. Her chest was planted firmly on the table beneath her. Her hands were reaching out to James. She was trying her absolute best to get his attention. She didn't mean to be annoying. She just loved him very much; he made her laugh.
Misty let out a quiet but fond sigh when she saw this sight but she didn't feel as though it was her place to scold her best friend's daughter, though she was her sister also. She turned to Justin and I hoped that he wouldn't take it badly. Sometimes he got worn down by constantly being the next in command to his father.
But that day, he took it in his stride. He looked a little disappointed to no longer be talking creativity with Misty but he decided to let it go. He let out a sigh – an airy one – and gave the chestnut haired male a look of reassurance before striding over to his little sister.
He walked directly behind her and touched the top of her head. She ignored him. She continued whining and trying to reach out to the chestnut haired male. And in return, the chestnut haired male was trying his best not to reach back out to her! He didn't like how she went about asking for attention but he still thought it kind of sweet that she liked him so. It was lucky he was incredibly patient. Justin was less so when it came to the two year old toddler.
After she blatantly ignored him standing behind her, he put his hands on his hips. He decided to address her first. He tried to ask her nicely.
"Can you sit back down please?" he inquired in his most patient tone of voice. I believed that he was influenced and inspired by little James' easy-goingness. But that didn't work. Jorgie whined all the more and tried reaching out to her special friend with even more vigour. Justin finally stopped her. He lifted the little girl up underneath her armpits and then managed to hold her with just the one hand. He looked right back at her. "Alright I'm sticking you down. You won't be able to move. I'm taking action."
And with that, me and Misty's eyes filled with amusement as Justin's tongue poked out of his lips in concentration also while he pretended to take hold of an invisible paintbrush and paint over her bottom with glue. And after he did this, he mimicked putting the brush away and putting Jorgie back down and in her seat and right on her behind. He pushed her chair closer to the table. He informed her airily.
"That's it. You can't move now; I've stuck you. I don't make the rules." He told her and he held his hands up innocently while she whined at him. But after not long at all, she actually stopped making any noises of complaints and did indeed decide to suck it up. Maybe she almost respected his action-taking antics. Justin's expression of firmness faded away and showed off a bit of a smirk after he moved away from Jorgie. And Misty smirked too.
She had been trying not to laugh at his method of getting his little sister to keep still. She didn't believe that it would work but it had! She was impressed. She laughed openly when it was all over and done with. I hopped on her shoulder as she moved closer to the kids. With Jorgie back under control, little James was able to go back to conversing with his little sister, Rey.
"Those two are a nightmare together." Misty commented and gave me a stroke of the cheek while I was happy to remain in the sun spot with her. I smiled and agreed with her words. But I couldn't help but think that though it wasn't untrue to say that Jorgie was the instigator of their little dramas, sometimes little James Ketchum could be as bad! She shook her head and laughed all the more. She questioned, curious for the younger male's response. "Do you reckon they're like your dad and I?"
Justin's own eyes filled with curiosity. He simply didn't know. So he turned his head to study both of the children to gather his thoughts. He looked at his little sister first. She was being quiet and well-behaved at last and she was occupying herself with picking a little bit of string on her pyjama top. That could be like her father! Then the both of us looked at James next.
The chestnut haired little boy – though he was swinging his legs – was quietly sat adjacently in front of his little sister while she drew a bright and colourful pictures filled with yellows. And he was giving her ideas. And not only was he giving her his input, he wasn't offended or put off when she had other, more outrageous ones. In fact, he smiled and nodded his head enthusiastically. That was enough to give the deep purple haired male a conclusion.
"I reckon they're like my dad and your husband!" he informed Misty and scrunched up his nose and after he observed that she was caught a little off guard by his response, not really seeing it that way initially, her persisted. Justin persisted with a smile and his hands going back on his hips as he moved by her side. "They annoy the crap out of each other. But there's a weird respect there."
And like the orange haired woman, I hadn't thought of it that way either. But when I pondered on it for just a little bit, it made me beam as much as the bright March sun that we were having. I liked that my very best friend was being mentioned; it felt as though he was there when he wasn't.
What was going on that morning was breakfast between some of the Morgan's and some of the Ketchum's. James had had to slip off not too long ago after baby Johnny had enjoyed his morning milk so much that he quickly needed a nappy change! And after sorting out that disaster, the baby boy was hungry again for more food. So the lavender haired male had carried him off to see his mother, leaving Justin, Misty, James, Rey, Jorgie and I. And the reason that that little late breakfast was going on between us all was because of my best friend.
He had received Katie's letter a few days ago, expressing how she was worried about Justin and asked him to see if he could forget responsibilities for a while and just have fun again. Unfortunately, Ash was busy that week with his own work responsibilities. But he was determined to deliver his daughter's wishes. Though he couldn't assist Justin himself for another while longer, he helped in his own way. He arranged that little get together between his family members and James'. Children made him feel better and more free. So he hoped that it would be the same for the deep purple haired male.
This wasn't really always the case when it came to Jorgie giving him hassle! But some of the Ketchum children did strangely give him a sense of peace. And especially the chestnut haired little boy whom he shared a sweet little bond with. And after thinking about this and little James, I looked over him and noticed that he had stopped assisting Rey with her drawing.
He being loud wasn't what got my attention because he wasn't being that way at all. He was being very quiet. He was being very, very quiet and thoughtful too. He had remembered. He had remembered something. He noticed the way that Justin stuck Jorgie's bottom down to the seat and thought it was funny. He thought it looked like fun! He almost wished he had been a part of that. Little James wondered if he'd have to be disruptive like Jorgie to get that kind of attention.
But thankfully for him, he was quite similar to the older male who he looked up to very much. While was being quiet, Justin caught onto that quietness right away. For the deep purple haired male, he heard silence more prominently than the loudest noises quite often. He looked over at the youngest Ketchum son from conversing with his mother and smirked at him. He took notice of him sitting on his legs on the seat rather than on the bottom. Justin pretended to take a break from chatting with Misty and approached James, giving him a playful look.
"I can see that, you know." He told him and straight away, the chestnut haired boy's eyes widened. Though he knew what he was hoping for, he didn't realise that his wish was being granted. He blinked. Justin smirked. But before he did anything before him, he continued talking to him. "You're not sitting properly in your seat. I think I need to stick you down as well."
And upon hearing this, sweet little James Ketchum showed off the brightest beam. He almost held his breath. Misty smiled softly at this reaction along with me but we smiled also at the way that the older male got permission. Though of course, he didn't need it!
The chestnut haired male's smile was indication enough and after he laughed in anticipation, Justin made a grab for him. He had to use both of his hands seeing as he was eight years old and even that was a struggle for the slim-figured young adult. Justin encouraged him to stand up on his seat and he held his hand with one of his hands and then pretended to slather his behind with glue to. And then he sat him back down, giving him a playfully firm look. Little James giggled away, covering his mouth with his hand. He tried to look remorseful but just couldn't. He felt like one of the carefree kids. But he felt like one of the big boys too.
Justin moved away with his own laughter and loitered back behind Jorgie, just in case that she clamoured for attention after seeing him give the chestnut haired boy some. But surprisingly, she didn't. She was still picking at the material on her pyjamas and waiting for breakfast. The deep purple haired male was taken aback by this but he soon spun it around to be even more mischievous. He pretended to fold his arms over his chest and look disappointed.
"I don't know. These two are such trouble makers, what are we going to do with them?" he looked over at Misty and pretended to be serious and this made James giggle all the more. I chuckled as well. Justin then looked over at Rey drawing. Along with being impressed at the bright and sunny yellow work that she was creating, he wanted to include her too. It was true that he was slightly more uncertain when it came to her but once again, he knew he had to try. In a friendly way, he hovered behind her before pretending to make her small pig-tails dance. "You are so well-behaved. Can you come and be my sister instead?"
Before that moment, the dark chestnut haired four year old had been in her own world, drawing and colouring while all the noises and conversations around her melted into her brain. But she knew when she was being addressed. She stopped. She turned around. She looked up. She saw Justin looking down at her with a nice smile. She couldn't help but smile back, appreciating the words. But then she thought about them more.
Rey absorbed his words and pondered them for a few seconds but then she frowned. It was true that she was a truly gifted child. She was empathetic but not only that, she was deeply intuitive. She thought about his words and his actions too. She was grateful for his compliment but she couldn't help but utter, putting her crayon down.
"You shouldn't say things like that, you know." She told Justin with a frown and the way that she was so unusually serious made Misty and I grin. But we didn't dare show it too much. We didn't dare make fun of her. We weren't. We just weren't expecting those words! We hovered near by, me still on the orange haired woman's shoulder. And upon hearing Rey's response, Justin blinked and stopped innocently playing with her pigtails. Rey bit her lip as she believed that maybe it wasn't her place. She shook her head and changed her words. But she shrugged. She couldn't help but state what she observed. "You can be nice to her. You don't always have to show your affection with pretend irritation."
And with that, Rey smiled understandingly at Justin and went back to drawing. Needless to say, the deep purple haired male was a little unnerved and took some steps away from her again. But he nodded his head, mumbling that he would bear that in mind. I couldn't help but grin openly there and then. I knew that he felt about the youngest Ketchum child in the same way that he felt about Jordan's little sister, Morgan. Sometimes he worried they knew a little too much about him!
But Justin soon let that go and moved away from the girl's a little more casually. And to make sure that little James didn't worry and pick up on that small interaction; Misty clapped her hands and finally snapped into action. She smiled in a motherly way.
"Okay, let's actually eat breakfast. I know that my ones are most likely quite hungry." She announced with a fond smile and after she did indeed hear both James and Rey's stomachs growling and mine too – we all did very much take after Ash – she giggled airily and tried to move towards the kitchen. She intended to move towards the fridge and open it but she knew that Justin would stop her, pointing out that she was the guest. So she turned to give him a knowing and reassuring look. "I know you'll want to make your own. But I can fix it up for everyone else. Take it easy this morning."
It was in Justin's nature to be stubborn and insist that he could do everything himself. But he saw the way that the orange haired woman was with his lavender haired father and knew how close they were. And the truth was he too felt a fraction of that closeness with Misty. He knew that he could trust her. He knew that he could share with her. And on top of that, he knew that he could follow her orders!
He hesitated for a few seconds but after Misty insistently gestured towards him, he couldn't help but grin bashfully back at her kind offer. He grinned also at how much she actually knew him and he felt surprisingly comfortable about that. So while the orange haired female occupied herself with making Jorgie and Rey's porridge because she knew that that would take the longest, the deep purple haired male shuffled to the breakfast bar to get his box of cereal. Misty smiled. She suspected as much. But she didn't suspect what happened next. I didn't either while I hopped off Misty's shoulder and went to sit between Rey and Jorgie instead.
Justin didn't take the box of cereal and the bowl and the milk to the breakfast bar table. He took it to another one. In fact, he took it over to a whole other kitchen. He took it to Jorgie's play toddler kitchen in the corner of the room. It was quite a sight when his long body sat down on the tiny seat and stared making himself breakfast there on the barely two foot high counter top. The other kids didn't think anything of it. But Misty and I did. She made a noise from pouring oats.
"Uhhh…" she said everything that she wanted to say with just that noise. I thought it was rather telling. Apparently not to Justin. It took until after she poured milk into the porridge oats and put her daughter's breakfast in the microwave for the deep purple haired male to actually look up from taking his first mouthful of cereal. But straight away when he saw the orange haired woman's expression, he knew he owed an explanation!
"Ohhh…" he began in a mumble, his mouth still full of cereal and milk. Out of politeness and habit too, he made sure to finish chewing and swallowing before he explained. He had a glint in his eyes. He knew he wasn't mad. But Misty didn't feel quite the same way at that point! He smirked sheepishly. "This kitchen over here belongs to old madam over there. It drives me crazy that our dad spent all that money on this and she doesn't use it. So I'm hoping that one day she sees me in it and finally gets use out of it."
I couldn't help but openly chuckle upon hearing this and the way that he referred to his little sister, Jorgie. For a few more seconds, Misty thought it was a little bit strange but then she couldn't help but admire the psychology behind it. It was true that Jorgie adored her eldest brother so in theory if she saw him in her play kitchen or if she saw him having fun in it, then she'd be desperate to begin to use it. But as of that moment, that wasn't the case.
While the chestnut haired young boy laughed at hearing Justin's words, not too young to misunderstand his antics, the deep purple haired male smiled even more. He pointed subtly to the way that Jorgie had finally stopped picking at her pyjamas hem and started staring at him amongst her toys. Justin mock-whispered.
"Look, look, look. It'll work one day. And the day that it does, I'll be very happy." He added to Misty's amusement and while she rolled her eyes fondly in between taking Rey's porridge out of the microwave and stirring it. And while Jorgie began to clamour to get down, we all got the feeling that that breakfast day was the day that Justin's mischievous motives had begun to work.
Like the helpful girl that she was, the dark chestnut haired girl stopped drawing straight away when Jorgie gestured to be put on the floor and she came to her air. Rey helped Jorgie out of her seat and put her down. She had a lot of patience for that child. In fact, she understood her almost more than anybody.
But none of us understood that when after the orange haired toddler's feet were put down on the ground; she didn't march over to her big brother. In fact, she moved in the complete opposite direction! She waddled over to the real kitchen and started clamouring to Misty to help her out. Justin's slightly over-confident grin soon changed to one of embarrassed defeat. He consoled himself with some more mouthfuls of cereal and then he spoke when he swallowed them. He wiped milk from his lips.
"Unfortunately Jorgie thinks that this is my kitchen now and the real one is hers. It might take a little while longer to change her mind-set but I'm confident that we can make it work." He said rather passively following his shameful defeat but he spoke in a way that made it obvious as to why he had had the musical success that he had achieved. He didn't give up and looked onwards no matter what.
Misty just laughed in amusement and gave Justin a look that said 'better luck next time' and then she cracked on with making Jorgie's porridge as well as Rey's. She also made sure that her daughter's porridge bowl wasn't too warm and then she bent down and gave it to the orange haired toddler so she could feel proud of herself by delivering that to the bigger girl all by herself. Her beam as she waddled over to Rey spoke volumes. She really did love helping people out. Unfortunately, she liked winding them up also!
The orange haired woman and I smiled fondly and then we both looked over at little James. He was being so patient but out of hunger, he was starting to kick his legs in his seat. After Misty and I shared a look, she gave her son a knowing one. She put her hands on her hips, glancing at him.
"Now I know that you're going to want to have cereal like Justin, aren't you?" she asked him and he couldn't stop his cheeks from turning shyly rosy pink as he bashfully nodded his head. Justin just grinned and silently fist pumped the air, getting over his embarrassment from Jorgie and feeling part of a team. Misty giggled lovingly and held her hand out to her youngest son. She gestured at him. "C'mon then. Come and choose which one you want. I know Justin was plenty."
"Take whichever one you want." Justin piped up kindly but for a rare occasion, perhaps not politely as he actually spoke through a mouth full of cereal. But for once also, little James was hesitant to do what his mother asked him, as well as the deep purple haired male. The latter believed that he knew the cause of the eight year old boy's shyness. He made sure to smile at him earnestly. "I mean it. You can take whatever one you want. Or do you want me to walk with you?"
Misty watched and she waited. I did too. She was curious as to why her normally shy and sensitive eight year old boy was being that shy and bashful. I tried not to show it but I knew why. On top of not wanting to have a terrible defeat like Justin with Jorgie and the kitchen, I didn't want to come across as arrogant. So I just watched and waited. Misty continued doing so. Justin started doing that as well. And after a good few seconds of everyone and even Jorgie looking silently over at James, I was proved right.
The chestnut haired male suddenly showed off a mischievous grin and he covered his mouth with both hands to hide his smirk. When he removed them, he stuck his nose in the air playfully.
"I can't move. I've been stuck down, remember!" he informed everybody in a child-like voice but an adamant one also. And because of this, we all burst into laughter. We all greatly appreciated his sense of humour. Justin laughed. Misty laughed. James laughed. Rey laughed. Jorgie laughed too – though she didn't really know what was going on. And after Justin finished off his first bowl of breakfast cereal and pumped the air with his fist a second time, Misty rolled her eyes and pretended to sigh. But she was being playful also. She bowed to her youngest son.
"Well then, your majesty, you stay seated and I'll pick and prepare some cereal for you." She humoured little James and he was tickled pink that he had made everyone laugh and was made to feel like royalty. Misty got Jorgie's porridge out of the microwave first and left it to cool but then she did crack on with preparing James' breakfast. I stopped lurking between Rey and Jorgie and decided to bustle off to make the orange haired woman's breakfast myself. She was putting everyone first so I made sure to put her first. She called over her shoulder to her son while pouring him a chocolate cereal she knew that he'd love. "Are you going to eat it stuck there? Or are you going to join Justin in his kitchen?"
I smirked as Justin found himself shooting Misty a bit of a look, worried that Jorgie would hear and his whole week-long psychology would go to ruin. But I was even more intrigued at the way that the chestnut haired male pulled a bit of a face while I poured the orange haired female's orange juice. I chuckled to myself. It was obvious that he looked up to and admired Justin so very greatly but not enough to hang out in a kiddie play kitchen! Unsurprisingly, the deep purple haired male caught on straight away.
After bustling in the mini kitchen to pour himself a second bowl of cereal, he stood up and used his long legs to carry him to he was standing behind James. And then he pulled out the seat next to him and sat next to the younger boy. Little James was naturally all the more tickled pink. Justin just smiled at him and then wrinkled his nose, having an answer for Misty.
"He's going to sit here with me. We're going to sit right here. And we're going to be part of the cool side." Justin claimed and his soft and kind-hearted smile faded away as he continued scrunching his nose up and in its place, was a mock-confident grin. That confidence bought it out in James too. He announced himself, for once being almost as loud as Jorgie.
"Yeah! We're on the cool side. We're on the cool boys only side!" he crowed with some gusto but after Misty gave him a bit of a playful look, knowing that she raised him to not mock the girls ever, he smiled innocently and quietened down. Misty rewarded this change in attitude by bringing him his cereal and making Justin's day by pouring him a portion as well. James looked over at Justin shyly. "Can I read what you and my Mom were reading earlier?" he asked him and perhaps on a high from some chocolate cereal for himself, while Rey helped Jorgie with eating her porridge seeing as they were both sat back together again, Justin openly nodded his head and handed the paper over to James. The chestnut haired young boy asked something else with more confidence and hopefulness in his eyes also. "Can I read it to you?"
"Yes please." Justin responded quickly but in a flattered sort of way – almost as tickled as the younger male, though he wasn't blushing nearly as much. The orange haired woman's cheeks were pink, however, and with love as she moved back over to the breakfast bar area with me and we made food for each other. It really was the simple things in life. It really was the little things. For in fact, they were not little things really. They were massive. And they were the things that meant the most.
We all listened while the chestnut haired young boy read the words aloud to Justin first and foremost and he spoke fluently. He needed help on some of the words that he hadn't heard before but he did such a good job. It made Justin smile. It made Justin smile so very much. In fact, it inspired him also.
"That's so so good. You've helped me figure out how it should go, actually. I think it should be done like this." He began informing us all but little James first and foremost and following that, he began reading the words to his new song in the same tune and melody that it would later come to be sung in. and it was all because of James. It was all because of little James. It was because of my family. It was wonderful that they inspired me. But it was even more incredible that they inspired other people as well.
Misty felt a little misty eyed as she sat at the breakfast bar and ate with me, separate from everybody physically but definitely not emotionally segregated. She was watching. Together, we were watching and we were enjoying the sights. At that point in the day, the sun wasn't what was keeping us warm. It was the gladness that Ash's idea had been so very successful.
The deep purple haired male was getting near to the end of his reading when, of course, Jorgie decided that moment was the right moment to play up. Rey knew that it was about to happen and tried to stop her and distract her with breakfast but even that didn't work.
The orange haired toddler whined from her seat and though she wanted her big brother's attention so very badly, she remembered how she had been stuck so didn't move her bottom out of it. So instead, she just made very loud whining noises. They were so very loud! They completely drowned out Justin's recitation. In fact, they even drowned out both the boys when the chestnut haired young boy copied the older male's melody and read with him to try and block out Jorgie.
Naturally, that didn't work! And as well as this, it made her exclaim and try to get her brother's attention with even more passion. And that was what made Justin snap. He didn't snap in the traditional sense or in an angry way. He just snapped in an inventive way. He had an idea. He had seen the way that Jorgie wound James up in the same way that she did with him and finally had an idea to stop him.
Though I believed Justin could see the chestnut haired male's feet resting on the little girl's chair underneath the table and that was what was making her louder than ever, he ignored it. He ignored it and bustled over to get his cereal boxes. But he wasn't hungry. For once, he was not hungry. He was inspired. He wasn't inspired to write another wrong, no. he was inspired to put an end to Jorgie's whining for good, as well as be on a proper team with little James.
Misty blinked as Justin gathered all of the cereal boxes that he could manage and she turned her head to watch as he started to line them up on the table, straight down the middle in front of his seat as well as James, Jorgie's and Rey's too. It should've been obvious what he was doing. But it wasn't.
Jorgie continued whining. James secretly continued resting his legs on hers under the table and even more so. But more for us all to see, he continued reading Justin's words. And the deep purple haired male continued lining up all of his breakfast boxes on the table. There was about a dozen in total and when he was done he proudly – but not arrogantly; he was just filled with quiet confidence – sat back in his seat. He sat back in his seat, folding his arms over his chest.
And then it was obvious what he had done. Justin had made a wall of cereal boxes and blocked him and the chestnut haired boy off so Jorgie couldn't clamour for their attention anymore. She could no longer see them! Justin felt a little bad for Rey but he knew she was likely to be loyal to Jorgie, understanding even her most testing traits. But after he heard his little sister gasping and asking where her big brother had gone, he knew it was for the best. He smiled gleefully. James did too.
And Misty and I couldn't stop ourselves from laughing. We shared a lingering and a long eye contact and smirked and then we burst into laughter. Misty's eyes lit up with amusement and she held a hand over her mouth to compose herself before going over to Jorgie and putting her hands on her hips. She couldn't help but humour her.
"Oh no, Jorgie, where's your big brother gone?" the orange haired woman asked but she reached down to tickle the orange haired toddler girl so she wouldn't cry. But I knew that she was beyond crying anyway. In fact, she thought it was almost magical as she wholeheartedly wondered where Justin and James had gone.
Both Justin and James laughed, they sunk down in their seats to be even more hidden from Jorgie and they fist pumped together. The chestnut haired young boy looked over at Justin and his look said it all. Justin's mischievous smile back said it all as well. But he said words anyway. After they fist pumped together, Justin rested his arms behind the back of his head.
"It's well and truly the girls side vs the boys side now." He hummed airily and he moved one hand away from his head to wrap his long arm around James' shoulder while he read his own words to him all over again. He smiled. He really smiled. He truly meant his words, no matter how light-hearted they were. "And I know that I've got the best member on my team."
I watched as Jorgie became very confused when she heard Justin's voice but couldn't see him but she was made to feel better, understanding that not only Rey was on her side but Misty was too. I thought about joining the boys but I didn't move. I was too busy. I was too caught up. I was too caught up in my own enjoyment. And I was too caught up in reflecting.
At that table and on that day, there was a boys' team and there was a girls' team. But the truth was I was most enamoured by the team of us all together. Opinions and feelings and personalities would sometimes separate us but they would bind us also. The losses and wins that we shared would do the same thing. But they didn't really matter. They didn't really matter as long as we went through them all together. And we did. We were a team.
The Ketchum's. The Morgan's. The Williams'. The Oak's. And many, many more. We were the biggest and the best team – together. And we certainly had many team players. We wound each other up. But we supported each other endlessly. And it was when we went through losses and hardships where we truly knew how close we all were.
It was true that you can't pick your family; you can only pick your friends. But luckily for me and luckily for everyone, my family were my friends. And my friends were my family. And I knew that I would pick them any day of the week. We would all pick each other. Maybe not all of the time. But at the end of the day, we would do exactly that. Not only did I believe it, but I knew it too.
The End.
There you go! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :3 So yeah, a little light-hearted one today even though it takes place after Josie passes on and Justin has a lot more responsibilities in his life. But like I said before, little James is there to remind him that he has a friend in him as well as a team-player! I love the little bond between Justin Morgan and James Ketchum. Little James absolutely looks up to him in more ways than one and wants to join in in whatever he's doing. And in return, Justin indeed learns a little patience with how to deal with Jorgie! And it's probably really heart-warming for Misty to see as well. James reminds her so much of her father, Jordan. So to see a little version of him blossoming with good people he can look up to is all she'd ever want :3 Thanks again and I will be back on the 28th to update To You Both so see you then!
