Hello :P It is Wednesday and I am back to upload the first Ash and Misty story for PokeShipping Month! Like all the other years I've done this for, I am following the themes of PokeShipping Week on Tumblr. This ones is "if Ash was aware of his feelings during their journey together'. I've taken a bit of creative liberty with this one and it takes place in the world of my stories, where Ash and Misty are a long distance couple during the Kalos journeys, and Misty goes to visit him. I hope you enjoy! :)
Ages:
Ash: 16
Misty: 16
Clemont: 17
Bonnie: 9
Serena: 14
Disclaimer: I own just the story! No OCs in this one.
"Look at me, Bonnie! Look at me!" the raven haired Pokémon Trainer stopped washing up dishes in the portable bowl and lifted one of them out, placing it on his head. Even before he could make a goofy expression by poking his tongue out and crossing his eyes, the yellow haired young girl was giggling at the foam bubbling in his dark locks. "Do you like my new hat?"
Although everybody around our little camp site had turned to look at Ash and his antics, naturally it was Bonnie who was amused by him the most. And that was exactly what he wanted. Satisfied with the reactions that he won from her and the giggles and even her copying his actions as well, he laughed a few more times before resuming washing up the dishes.
It was not unusual for my best friend to speedily do away with clearing up after lunch, eagerly anticipating moving on to the next thing, but on that day it was taking the biscuit even for him! With his short sleeves and non-glove clad hands, he dunked them and his arms into the soapy water and washed dishes as quickly as he could.
As I watched from perching on the fold away table that the orange haired female was cleaning with her own bowl of soapy water, though I chuckled to myself, my next inclination was to watch the two dish driers reacting to the raven haired Pokémon Trainer.
Clemont and Serena shared looks of utter dismay with each other before looking back at Ash, completely bewildered by the utter speed that he was attempting to get the dishes done and washed up. We all knew it was a miracle that he hadn't dropped any.
Bonnie merely giggled and giggled and giggled, a plate moving upwards and covering her mouth as she couldn't even dunk her own ones in the water bowl from the way Ash's hands were so quickly moving in and out! But she didn't appear to mind.
Before the yellow haired young girl had a chance to copy the older male once more, the oldest of the entire group stopped rubbing a plate dry with a cloth and approached the dish washing area of the camp, pushing his glasses further up his nose.
"I have the strangest feeling that I couldn't even invent a robot that could complete that task as quickly as you." Clemont commented rather coolly but his voice did have a slight edged of supressed admiration as he watched the younger male. Ash simply grinned and continued washing up, determined to do the last few items in a few more seconds. Clemont added while Bonnie finally had a moment to dunk her plate into the water. "Is the water that hot or something?"
Serena and Misty continued their respective jobs of drying up and cleaning the table but anybody could tell that they were listening in. it was most likely true that Ash would've been happy to continue doing his chore at the previous speed but even so, he slowed down a little bit and made sure to engage when he was being spoken to.
His continuous grin changed to the shake of the head and rather immediately while Bonnie washed up her own plate during Ash's momentary lull, he responded to one of his travel buddies.
"Nah it's perfectly fine." The raven haired male replied but while his hands briefly rested on the edge of the portable washing up bowl, they did look a lot pinker than normal! Soon enough, his hands slid back into the soapy water and he resumed washing up Bonnie's item for her as well as his own last few. Nevertheless, he continued speaking with Clemont, giving him an airy shrug. "Guess I'm just fuelled well from lunch."
And with that, thanks to Ash's conclusive nod of the head, the yellow haired male was encouraged to push his glasses further up his nose once more before heading back to his own task.
Yes, it had been a hearty lunch to say the least! And no doubt had it definitely fuelled everyone well but especially my best friend too. All the same, after a few minutes of everyone getting back down to their chores and having various small talk between them about the next route and the next leg of journey and the next battles, Ash did and said some things that indicated of another possible reason for his hurriedness.
Coming to an end to his task and after handing the soap bubble decorated plates, bowls and cutlery over to Serena and Clemont to dry, he threw the wash cloth into the bowl and left it where it was. Walking past the brown haired girl and the yellow haired boy and even the yellow haired girl and me as well, Ash made a straight beeline for his girlfriend, Misty.
Giving her a small, almost secretive smile, he began to help her with cleaning the fold away table as well. He reached for a spare cloth and dunked it in her bowl and started to rinse it alongside her. Three of our travelling group stared at one and other! I glanced in between them all. The orange haired female merely only looked at her boyfriend.
Despite the fact that her eyebrow did quirk upwards in mild suspicion, she soon smiled back following his one towards her and then seemed happy to be doing that task together. She ignored the fact that that usually was his most disliked one!
However, she could not ignore the speed in which he was helping her and nobody else could either. I certainly could not ignore it most of all and especially so when my eyes were forced to squint shut as Ash flicked a bit of soapy water into my eyes in the hast of him wiping down the table.
He muttered a little bit of a sorry to me and reached his hand out to my head to give me a clumsy pat while everyone else continued looking at either each other or him. And then, after my eyes had managed to open all over again without stinging too much, Ash threw the wet cloth on the table with a slap and rubbed his hands together. It became apparent that he was done for good.
"Right, Mist, I guess we can be off now to do that thing." The raven haired Pokémon Trainer spoke over at his water enthusiast girlfriend in between continually rubbing his gloveless hands together. In spite of the fact that his words were rather vague, he looked around at everyone else and had an innocent expression to convey that it wasn't exactly a secret. Then, Ash looked back at Misty again, flashing her a smile. "Make sure you bring your backpack with you."
With that, I watched as my best friend reached his hand out to the orange haired female and he squeezed her shoulder before turning on his heel, going to put his gloves back on his own hands and reach for his own backpack.
I couldn't deny the slightly confused expression that took over Misty's face. While it was true that Ash's words had been rather vague, he had mentioned something before lunch that he and his girlfriend were going to be heading off somewhere just the two of them. He had mentioned wanting to show the Cerulean Gym Leader some of his new battle techniques that he had been working on, hence the expression that had soon befallen on her face.
It seemed a little strange to her to need to take her backpack with her when she assumed they would just be walking a few metres over to a clearer part of the camp area and to engage in a little battle.
Nevertheless, before she could verbally express this confusion of her, someone else piped up. While Ash put his black and red gloves back on his hands and Clemont piled the then clean and dry dishes away into their storage box, the brown haired girl had a bit of a frown on her face. Her words were laced with this same bewilderment – and a touch of disappointment.
"But we usually do everything as a group, together." Serena stated and at the same time that most eyes travelled over to her, beginning to listen to her mild complaint, her hand wandered over to her hip and rested there. Then the hat wearing girl added, trying to raise her eyebrows upwards to ease her own frown. But she still persisted. "I mean… That's how we do things when it's just the four of us."
Although Serena had chosen her words carefully, it was perfectly clear what she was getting that. And because of this, not only did Clemont and Bonnie share a bit of a look but Serena herself and Misty did as well.
Neither of their expressions changed and they both didn't say anything either but the two girls glanced over in each other's direction. It was definitely a bit of an uneasy few seconds. But thankfully, it was soon sorted by another, different person piping up.
Before Ash had a chance to wonder why everyone else was looking at each other and he could verbally question this motive (very naively and loudly) the yellow haired young girl started to show her displeasure for a very different reason. I don't believe that she was acting out on purpose, trying to shift the awkwardness away – even though I knew that she almost certainly caught on to it.
With her bottom lip sticking out and her blue eyes growing very wide, she shuffled over to Misty's side and held onto her wrist with both hands, swinging the older female's arm and shaking it.
"You promised that you would tell me water ballet stories after lunch. After lunch is now!" Bonnie reminded Misty and the younger girl's little messenger bag started to twitch as though even Dedenne was interested in this sort of thing. Her hands continued not to leave Misty's arm, her wide eyed expression changing to a bit of a narrower, determined glance. "After lunch is now."
At the same time that I finally hopped off the fold away table before it indeed got folded up and moved onto my best friend's shoulder instead, Misty glanced down at Bonnie and looked at her far more softly than she did with Serena. Not that she had really looked at the brown haired girl all that harshly at all.
Misty's eyes were laced with a layer of kindness as she looked down at Bonnie and her mouth threatened to twitch upwards, showing off a gentle, fond smile. I noticed that Clemont had a similar look for his sister. Though the two of them drove each other around the bend, he had found it very, very sweet that his younger sibling had taken to the orange haired female so well during her visits to her boyfriend on his journey.
While both Misty and Clemont continued smiling at Bonnie and I did as well, Serena had started trying to occupy herself with emptying the bowls of water on the grass. Ash then became the person who decided to speak next.
His eyebrows drawing together with dismay of how everybody was reacting, he forwent glancing at me on his shoulder and put his own hands on his hips, shaking his head.
"You guys…" my best friend started and already, these words and these words alone spoke volumes. He stopped shaking his head but his hands remained on his hips. He still didn't look at me. "You're all acting like you didn't know. And you're all acting like we'll be gone forever. Just a few hours at the most."
The raven haired Pokémon Trainer continued not looking at me and I started to think that it was purposeful! While Serena's head couldn't help but twitch up from emptying the water bowls as she really hoped that it wasn't close to a few hours and a gasp erupted in Bonnie's throat for the same reason, Misty glanced over at her boyfriend.
And instead of speaking directly to him and adding or going against his words, she ignored him completely for the time being and focused on the young girl who was genuinely beginning to look rather upset at their forthcoming absence – especially Misty's absence.
A sympathetic look gracing her orbs and that gentle smile taking over her mouth all the more, the orange haired female went down on her knees and to Bonnie's level. She addressed her properly and fairly.
"Don't you worry, Bonnie. I promise I will tell you all about them. After lunch can be anytime. But I promise it will be sometime today." The orange haired female told the yellow haired girl and because her touch had since slid away from her wrist, Misty made a point of reaching out and touching Bonnie on the top of her head.
The young girl continued looking a little bit forlornly but she couldn't deny the fact that Misty was being very fair and very honest with her. She had gotten to know her as a person who was very much true to her word so because of this, she knew that she had to nod. And Bonnie also knew to trust and so found it rather natural for her to copy her expression.
Taking a big, brave breath that caused Dedenne to settle back to sleep in her messenger bag, Bonnie smiled back at Misty. This earned her another pat on her head. Then, the orange haired female rose upwards. She rose upwards and showed that she wasn't ignoring Ash entirely by moving over to his side and hooking her hand through his arm.
It seemed to become official. The two of them were going to be heading off together for some educational battle time despite the fact that some people were displeased about it. Some people were very displeased about it!
Clemont wasn't one of these people though. He showed it by not complaining once and before Ash and Misty could check they had everything they needed, he sidled up to the couple and pushed his glasses further up his nose, causing them to glint in the midday Kalos sun.
"At least before the two of you go, I would like you to see the new mechanical lure that I made. Who knows? It might even bring you good luck." He spoke in another casual voice but then following this, his expression seemed to light up almost as brightly as his glasses reflecting the sun! At the same time that Ash and Misty glanced at one and other, Clemont reached into his pocket. He added before his creation had even been revealed. "I made a mechanical Misty."
The orange haired female's glance stopped being towards her boyfriend and started being over at me. However, this lasted only a split second because out of the corner of all of our eyes, the yellow haired male held something in his hand and revealed it to the couple.
Serena couldn't stop herself from rising upwards from squatting and emptying the water bowls out of curiosity. Bonnie stood on her tiptoes for the same reason. Ash and Misty's eyes glanced down into Clemont's hand.
There was indeed a mechanical sort of thing in his hold, no bigger than his palm. But to tell you the truth, it could hardly be compared to the Cerulean Gym leader! Mechanical Misty had carrot coloured hair and porcelain skin. But that was the only amount of likeness it shared with its muse.
Clemont continued holding his creation in his hand and his fingers twitched all around it like it was the most precious thing in the entire world. Misty managed to resist looking at me but I did not resist looking at her. I sucked my cheeks in as I did so to try and suppress my giggles. I very nearly let out a cough.
I really tried hard not to laugh at the same time that I swore a bead of sweat appeared on Misty's forehead and her own jaw clenched. But her actions were out of trying to find flattered and genuine words to say to the yellow haired male. She just couldn't find any!
But my raven haired best friend found it easy to find his voice. And he didn't hesitate to share his opinion as Clemont held his mechanical Misty out to her, insisting that she have a hold.
"It's incredibly creepy." Ash stated and straight away, Clemont froze like he had been caught in a blizzard. He was very still and very, very rigid for a good couple of moments. And then his cheeks flushed a brilliant red. He blushed far redder than my best friend's hands had been when he was speedily doing the washing up.
The yellow haired male continued flushing and clasped his creation back to his chest while Bonnie giggled and Serena looked sorry for him.
Misty looked sorry for him most of all. Her hand slid out of resting in between the crook of Ash's arm and briefly held it to her heart instead. Then, she flashed her boyfriend a look. It was such a look that it should've frozen him instead! But he just shrugged, wordlessly standing by his words.
The Cerulean Gym leader continued frowning before looking over at Clemont again, taking a step forward and finding her own words. She tried to make up for Ash's rather tactless (if rather true) words with her own ones.
"What Ash means is that we really need to get going now." Misty tried to speak coolly and clearly but she had an edge to her voice that made it clear she was resisting stamping on his foot for being so blunt to the older male. Clemont continued looking at the floor while cradling his creation, his cheeks still looking like they had been slapped. Because of this, Misty took a step closer to him and patted him on the shoulder rather than the top of the head like she had done to Bonnie. "She… She's lovely though. I'll enjoy her properly when we get back."
And with that, the orange haired female reached out and grabbed her boyfriend's wrist (squeezing it just a tad to make a point) before trying to tug him off even though he was meant to be taking her somewhere!
Nevertheless, there was just one more interruption. Bonnie started to whine all over again, seemingly quickly switching it up from giggling and snorting at her brother's reaction. This time, though, she was sniffling and sticking her bottom lip out because she wanted me to stay.
Though I was rather flattered and I smiled at her, I knew the score. Ash proved this by recovering from pouting slightly himself and wondering why Misty was squeezing him so hard to cupping his spare hand around my cheek before I even dreamed of hopping off his shoulder.
"Pikachu is always invited." Ash said with a smile and with this, the three of us headed off for good towards an area for a private moves show. The three of us left the other three behind.
They would just have to get on with it! We had battles to participate in. or did we?
The raven haired Pokémon Trainer continually recovered rather well from his girlfriend's stare right towards him and squeeze as well, and after we had got a little bit out of sight from the camp site, he reached to hold Misty's hand rather than the two of them loosely being joined together.
Their fingers had a chance to properly entwine and even though they didn't glance at each other and blush and smile at this fact, the way they sweetly inhaled and exhaled spoke volumes. It was hard to be love birds in front of everyone. But it was easy to be that way when it was just the two of them.
It was such a simple thing. It was just a simple gesture. But it meant the world to the two of them. Hands clasping onto each other's out of adrenaline and fear when they were ten years old had changed to a quiet declaration of their adoration.
With palms pressed up against each other, they walked and they walked and they walked. We walked. We walked with Ash leading the way. But we did not walk towards a clearing to battle in. Just before Misty was about to stop enjoying the view while continuing enjoying the physical contact with her boyfriend and she was going to pipe up, asking where we were going to stop, we arrived at a view that cut her right off.
She should've known by the delicate smell. She should've known by the sound of the water and bug Pokémon starting to buzz around a good few metres into the air. She should've known by the grass beneath our feet starting to feel a touch more marshy.
We arrived at a lake. And not only did we arrive at a lake but we arrived at one that had a perfect clearing between the reeds and two chairs and a fishing rod already set up. It seemed that Ash had not wanted to head off to very early find fire wood for the evening time. He had headed off to set up something for his girlfriend. We were all seeing it then.
My raven haired best friend watched his girlfriend's reaction with a tilted head. As she gasped quietly and stopped admiring the view and started turning to look back at him, her expression filled with gentle bewilderment, Ash felt the inclination to grin broadly and he couldn't stop it.
He moved to stand right in front of Misty and he squeezed both of his hands, almost jumping up and down in his own trainers in excitement of the little surprise that he had planned for his girlfriend. He let go of her hands to briefly brush her hair out of her eyes for her but then he soon enough grabbed her hands all over again. It was like they never dared to be apart from each other.
"It can be kind of a bummer to be a couple on the road and have proper time together, huh? So I thought we could make up for it now." Ash tried to speak casually but not only was the hope that Misty would be as happy with the idea as he felt coming up with it, he also felt punched in the gut with a fist full of giddiness when she was looking right into his eyes.
Though he remained grinning at her, his smile started to shake due to his first love. But still, he didn't look away from her for a single second. He continued looking at her. He continued holding her hands. He continued waiting. He continued waiting for a reaction. It finally came.
I couldn't help but feel like I should've given them a bit more privacy, even if I was always welcome!
"Ash…" the Cerulean Gym leader began and at once, this word and this word alone spoke volumes of how touched she was at the effort that her boyfriend had gone to for her. She shook her head slowly and she showed her emotions by reaching to stroke him on the zig-zag that decorated his face. Needless to say, this caused him to quiver more. However, he was forced to duck his head with the words that came next. "Since when did you become so romantic?"
I laughed heartily and so I didn't ruin any more moments further, I hopped down off my best friend's shoulder and occupied myself by sitting nearer to the water's edge! After Ash did indeed duck his head downwards and he was forced to confront his girlfriend's teasing and her smirk and her nose sticking in the air, he copied her nose elevating actions and shrugged, his eyebrows rising on his face too.
"What can I say? I'm a romantic sort of guy." Ash replied and to prove a point, he stuck his chest so far out that it almost collided with his girlfriends. But proving that he was never the type to lie to her but especially not when the two of them were a couple, he added honestly, laughing sheepishly and stroked his own cheek while Misty looked probingly at him. "Okay, I might have been guided into it by Clemont… And Gary. And Brock too… Maybe even Cilan now that I think about it… But I set it all up!"
And despite the fact that this was potentially all very unromantic that he had garnered help from so many people, Misty couldn't help but soften at his honesty and she couldn't help but soften at all the effort that he had truly gone to for her sake.
Although she didn't with words say too much to express her gratitude, she did very much do this with gestures. She placed her hands on her boyfriend's shoulders and she embraced him, nuzzling her nose into his neck. And after the two of them held one and other by the water front for a good couple of moments, together, hand in hand all over again, they wandered over to the little set up scene and prepared to enjoy their time together.
After Ash and Misty had lowered themselves into the fishing seats with their hands not daring to become unbound – and after Misty had peacefully enjoyed the view and the Kalos sun beating down on the lake front and causing it to shimmer in the most unimaginable way – the orange haired female tilted her head towards the raven haired male.
As Misty looked over at Ash once again, she found it natural to tease him.
"Oh I really hope that I actually have my fishing rod on me. That would be simply awful." Misty stated and even though I had the intention to not get too involved and let them have their time, I couldn't refrain from turning behind me and tittering along with her joke while she smirked.
But of course, Ash being Ash, he didn't catch on to the fact that Misty was being dry over her never packing a bag without her fishing rod being inside it. Instead, he nonchalantly smiled all over again and didn't hesitate to reply, his hand finally letting go of hers as he scooted to the edge of his seat.
"Don't worry about it, Mist. You can use the one here. I can catch with my bare hands. Iris taught me, remember?" Ash replied to his girlfriend and although I was pretty certain that he was joking, the way that he edged even further to the edge of his seat and rolled his sleeves up a little more made me uncertain!
No doubt did the orange haired female feel the same way. And though she too was pretty certain that her boyfriend had utterly failed Iris' wild child lessons, she found herself putting a stop to the possibility before she had Ash in the water and her having to dive in after him like the day that the two of them met.
Unlike when they were at the age of meeting, Misty didn't stop Ash with words. She didn't stop him with vary loud and obvious words. She merely reached out and grabbed his shoulder and tugged him back. This paired with a look and a shake of the head made it perfectly obvious what was being conveyed.
Ash blinked. But then he smiled. And he shrugged. He settled back in his seat, crossing his legs together and resting his chin in his hands.
"Okay. I guess we'll take turns then. I don't mind." The raven haired Pokémon Trainer spoke and after Misty fondly shook her head with a raised eyebrow, the two of them got down to enjoy their time together.
It goes without saying that Misty took her backpack from off her back and reached in for her own fishing rod. And her own lure too. The two of them looked at each other at this and smirked too, not saying anything. They didn't need to. I thought similar things as well as I watched them both in the reflection of the water.
Expertly and effortlessly, Misty attached her lure to the fishing rod as well as the bait and cast her line out in to the water. In spite of the fact that she had her own purple rod, my raven haired best friend didn't reach for the one that he had set up for the both of them and he didn't move a muscle.
With his legs still crossed and his hands still cupping his chin, he watched his girlfriend focusing on the water, watching and waiting for any movement beneath the surface that would cause ripples to form.
I continued watching the two of them reflected in the ripples-less water. It was hard to know what Ash was thinking about. Although the two of us were as close as close could be and that hadn't changed since he had gotten into his long-distance relationship, I couldn't know for certain what was wandering through his mind as he looked at Misty.
No doubt was there a whole lot of love there. Admiration too. I didn't know but I couldn't help but wonder, was he thinking of the future? Was he thinking of the past, when the two of them were ten years old and these sorts of thoughts and feelings didn't dance through his being but the fractional beginnings of them were blossoming there nonetheless?
I smiled to myself as I watched and pondered. All I ever wanted for my best friend was to be happy, and to be loved. I felt like he had the best person loving him. I turned to her next, and looked at her reflection. And as I did this, I noticed that she was beginning to notice the watchful eye of her boyfriend.
Though it initially caused her to blush and smile, and she bit as her lip as she tried to focus on her fishing, the more that it happened and the more that time passed, she started to wonder if he had gone into a trance or something!
Misty decided to reach out and knock the spare fishing rod out of the hold so her own one could take its place and then it was left lulling there, doing her own thing while she addressed her boyfriend's continuous stare.
The wooden rod crashing down to the ground didn't bring him back to reality! Only Misty waving her hand in front of his eyes and poking him on the end of the nose did this.
"Didn't your Mom teach you that it isn't polite to stare?" the orange haired female accidentally almost thundered at her raven haired boyfriend, showing that traits of her ten year old self weren't exactly a hugely long forgotten memory! Immediately, Ash gulped and recoiled back. Misty swallowed herself, her cheeks feeling a bit hotter before she knew that the best making up to was to try again. She encouraged her expression to soften as she changed her words. "What are you staring at? Is this some new technique to summon water Pokémon for me? Awww, Ashy."
After accidentally snapping at her boyfriend, she teased him. She reached out and squeezed his cheek in the same manner but it was also to soften her previous outburst.
Nevertheless, my best friend's face screwed up and he dodged her touch. His legs became untucked and they planted on either side of the fishing chair. He had heard her words and her teasing and so he decided to respond to it promptly. He responded to her words promptly with round cheeks and puckered lips.
"No." he retorted, a dash of his own ten year old traits returning – his stubbornness. I turned behind me to look at them both rather than relying on the reflection of the very still water. After Misty's head tilted and her cheeks cooled down a bit and she tried not to smirk too much at his pouty and childish self, Ash's legs crossed on the chair all over again like he didn't know what to do with them. In his gloves, his fingers danced in the same manner. Then, he couldn't stop himself from speaking with the same honesty as before. "I mean… Of course she did. I guess I'm not really sure how to act. I don't know, I keep thinking someone's going to come along and tell me I'm not acting right with you."
Misty's immediate reaction was to continue teasing her boyfriend. Sometimes she wished that this wasn't the case. But they would always be them, even if they were then in a relationship!
"What, like Clemont and Gary and Brock and all of your other advisors? Cilan too. Who could forget him?" the orange haired female questioned in a deadpan voice, only one of her eyebrows shooting upwards. Still, Ash wasn't always as dense as he once was. He showed this by catching onto her sentiment even if it was easily concealed. His own cheeks reddened and his lips pouted and he threatened to mutter the words 'forget about it' and turn away from his girlfriend completely. Thankfully, Misty got in there first. She ignored her fishing rod entirely and tilted her head, her expression softening some more. She pretended to sigh. "I'm joking. Ash… I just want you to be you. After all, it's you that I've put up with all of these years. No one else."
Immediately, Ash rolled his eyes and copied her sigh. But fortunately before he turned away from her for good, Misty knew that she had to stop teasing him for good.
It was going to be a little difficult that that was how she showed affection. But she felt things for Ash. She felt things for Ash very deep in her heart. No doubt could she feel all of these butterflies cascading through her as she decided to bite the bullet and speak her heart.
No teasing. No tricks. No spite. Just truth.
The orange haired female reached for the raven haired male's wrist once more and her fingers lingered there before they slid down and entwined with hers all over again. His tanned fingers clasped over her pale ones like he didn't even have a choice.
Words tumbled out of Misty's mouth. I shut my eyes and faced the water once more as I listened.
"It's very sweet that you took the effort to ask other people. But don't let it take away from the fact that I chose to be with you. And I care for your words. Your ideas. Your wants. I love your ideas. I care about your ideas. I care about you. I love… you." The orange haired female said and her eyelashes switched before her eyes shot upwards, bashfulness and vulnerability appearing.
It was almost strange. It was strange in the sweetest of ways how they balanced each other out. When Ash was there and being brash, Misty was always there to bring him down a peg or two. When Misty was there and her words were all over the place, Ash was there to make her a little more thoughtful with her sentences.
And although they balanced each other out and Misty had teased Ash when he was being truthful with her, there and then and in that moment, Ash didn't decide to show off the same antics because Misty did. In fact, he didn't show them off at all.
The more and more that she got into her words, the raven haired male's head and body tilted towards his girlfriend. His mouth opened more and more. He started to grin. Bashfully, he started to grin. With reddened cheeks and reddened pads of his fingers as they clasped his girlfriends, he turned to listen to her.
And eventually and when he saw her looking up to the sky out of the newness of expressing that sort of thing even though it was not the first time, it was his turn to react in similar ways. He didn't offer words of response to Misty. He offered gestures instead.
Not hesitating at all but being very tender nonetheless, he reached out and grabbed his girlfriend by the chin before pressing his lips to hers. It was no surprise when her eyes widened as she did not expect this. But soon enough, she did not hesitate to return this.
Misty kissed Ash back when he placed his lips upon hers. By the water front, the two of the kissed. The two of them held hands. The two of them were together. And it breathed a sense of fresh air into my lungs.
It wasn't like I had always been waiting for that sort of thing to transpire between them because I would have been more than happy if they had simply remained friends. But I had always known that there was more there. And because of this, I was utterly overjoyed to see what I saw. Because I knew that it was meant to be.
The young couple continued pressing soft, fresh and giddy kisses to each other's lips for quite some time. The only reason that they pulled away was because something was tugging on Misty's line at last. In actuality, they only pulled away from one another because I was forced to tug at their legs, indicating to them of such!
The orange haired female gasped right away and her eyes flashed with excitement of what could have possibly been on the end of her fishing rod. Her boyfriend voiced this ecstasy. Shooting towards the end of his chair all over again, his hands clasped together and he gasped like he needed all the air in the world into his lungs while Misty concentrated.
"Ooh! I bet it's a Feebas! It's gonna be a Feebas to evolve into a beautiful Milotic! Wait no; it's going to be a Wishiwashi! There's loads of them round here! Wait no, a Basculin! Red or blue. As Basculin! Wait, no no no!" Ash babbled away to himself and it was lucky that Misty managed to prevent her eyebrow from twitching as she concentrated in fighting back with the mystery Pokémon on the end of her road. Maybe it was lucky that Misty didn't react to Ash for once. Maybe it was lucky. Maybe it was just meant to be. After Ash had a moment to quieten down and simply look at his girlfriend as she did one of the things that she did best, a different expression took over. A softer smile decorated his face. But it shone more than if he had been beaming. He smiled and he murmured to himself. "It's going to be a Luvdisc, just for us…"
I turned my head and heard these words at the same time that Misty won the battle and pulled her bait and her lure out of the water and the Pokémon along with it. Colours that were a vibrant orange contrasted the brilliant blue of the Kalos Lake.
I stared. Misty stared. Ash stared. It was not a Feebas, nor was it a Milotic. It wasn't a Wishiwashi. It wasn't a Basculin, not a red one and not a blue one. Of course, it wasn't a Luvdisc either.
A Magikarp was revealed out of the water and it chomped on the bait on Misty's lure before diving back into the dazzling blue, swimming away after giving the two of them an endearing blank sort of wave.
In spite of the fact that Ash had spoken his last words just for him, he ducked his head and clenched his jaw like he was embarrassed about them. Maybe it was a good thing that he did this. Maybe he definitely knew.
Maybe Ash knew that his words had been heard by all. They had definitely been heard by Misty who turned to give her boyfriend just one more teasing look, her eyebrow rising upwards on her face.
"You were saying…?" she questioned to the raven haired Pokémon Trainer, putting her fishing rod back in the rest and folding her arms over her chest that was glistened with water droplets from the fight with the Magikarp.
I fought back a smirk as Ash continued looking down at his lap, his jaw still clenched and scratching his own cheek. However, soon enough he found the courage to stand by his words loud and proud. And it wasn't because he was simply being stubborn, no. it was because he was in love. And he showed that wonderful quality by everything that came next.
A very different reaction washed over him. He grinned. He beamed. He tackled his girlfriend with a bit of a bear hug that caused her to gasp. He nuzzled her close after pressing a kiss to her cheek, secretly hoping that it resulted in more.
"For us, we can pretend it's a Luvdisc. I'll never stop hoping to see one in the wild with you." Ash told her, his beam softened down into a smile before it widened all over again.
And in spite of the fact that Misty shook her head and rolled her eyes at his stubbornness, she felt the love radiating from him too and couldn't help but return it. She clung onto him back, embracing him with all of her might.
The raven haired male did get his wish. Not seeing a Luvdisc with her, oh no. But getting a bit more than a cheek kiss! Their lips found each other all over. Their hands did too. Their hearts as well.
They may have been young but their connection was undeniable. I felt positively elated to have seen it from the rocky beginnings of two ten year old to the giddy infatuation of two sixteen year olds. I knew that I was going to see more. I was going to see more and more and more.
I was already touched at the effort that Ash went for her even if romance was not his forte. And I was humbled by the care that Misty went for him even if tenderness wasn't always something she found the easiest. Ash and Misty definitely brought out the best in one and other.
It was funny how so long ago they wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was. They wanted to be the best Pokémon Trainers. And in time, they became the best for one and other. And as even more time passed, they knew that that kind of thing was untouchable. It was far greater than any gift. Any medal. Any accolade. Even any blessing of seeing a Luvdisc or two!
They had each other. And that's all they would ever need. Forever. But that wouldn't stop them from making mini versions of themselves, of course. Far more beautiful ones than mechanical Misty. Even Clemont would agree!
The End.
There you go! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed :) This was a little shorter than normal and that was partially intentional. I really wanted to go back to a lot of my really early stories with this one, with the shorter length and the canon characters and just the vibe in general! It was such fun to return to this sort of thing and tackle Ash and Misty in an early relationship, especially their little uncertainties. I liked including a lot of the canon anime characters as well! It reminds me of when I first started writing :3 Thanks again and I will be back next Wednesday with another Ash and Misty chapter so see you then!
Amy signing out :)
