"Did you get what you wanted?" Alexander asked as I walked out of the room. I looked around, noticing that Bryson was gone, along with the girls. I looked up at him with a smile, trying to hide my sadness and confusion.
"Yes, I did. Thank you so much. How could I ever repay you?" I asked.
"Oh, it's no need. We go way back, even if you don't remember me." Alexander states with a smile, and I nod.
"Well, I better get going." I state, making my way out of the room, but he stops me, making me turn around.
"Wait, why are you in such a rush to leave?" He questioned me, and I looked at him curiously.
"I have to get back to my sister and get her out of the town she is currently in as soon as possible." I explained.
"Well, it's night right now. Don't you want to stay in the greatest city for one night?" Alexander asks, trying to change my mind.
"Look, before I was just shrugging it off because I have more important matters to attend to, but why are you so interested in me? What were you to me when we first met?" I ask curiously. He looks at me, seeming unsure how to answer but I don't look away until he answers my question.
"It's not something I can explain in a short five minutes. But if you truly want to know the full story, ask Klaus." He explained.
"What does my brother have to do with this?" I asked, confused, and his face became serious.
"I have a feeling he's the reason you cannot remember anything about me. He didn't exactly like me." Alexander stated. I wouldn't be surprised if this were another thing Nik kept from me. Is this one of the secrets my mother was talking about?
"Okay, I really have to go but I feel like I owe you." Alexander tries to stop me from doing anything.
"No, no, really. It's not necessary."
"So you don't want my phone number?" I question with a smile, taking out my phone. He is taken aback, then does a small chuckle.
"Um yeah, yeah. I'll take your phone number." Alexander smiles back, and I start to give it to him.
"If you need anything, just give me a call. Think of it as your one time all time favor." I explain and he smiles and he nods to my favor.
"Well, it was great meeting you again, Kalle." Alexander stated, putting his hand out for me to shake. I looked at him with a smirk.
"It was great meeting you again, apparently, as well Alexander." I shake his hand and he smiles back at me. Afterwards, I let go of his hand and head out of the room.
As I head out of the club, I see Bryson in the distance making out with some chic. He notices me leaving, and gives me an extravagant wave goodbye. I laugh, and give him a quick wave as well.
I leave the club, and try to figure a way back to my car, somewhere in this huge city.
That night, I eventually find my car after a good 45 minutes of searching. Once I get in the car, I call my sister.
"Kalle!" Rebekah exclaimed excitedly.
"Hey Bex, how's it been there?" I asked.
"It's been very interesting. I made some new friends, some new enemies, and joined the cheer squad." She stated.
"You joined the cheer squad?" I asked, confused.
"I mean, why not?" Rebekah states in a harmless tone.
"Okay, but don't get too comfortable because I'm coming back, and I'm not sure if we will stay in that town." I state, unsure.
"Why not? Aren't we supposed to be looking after Stefan and the doppelganger?" Rebekah asks curiously, and I roll my eyes.
"I couldn't care less about Nik's orders. Besides, there's something I need to talk to you about when I get back." I stated being concerned about the secrets Nik has kept.
"Did you find what you were looking for?" She questioned me.
"Yeah, I did. Even more so. But anyway, I'll be back there around tomorrow afternoon. I'm going to sleep here tonight." I stated, tiredly on the phone.
"Alright, well I'll just continue to torment the doppelgänger while you're gone." Rebekah states, and I can hear a smile growing on her face.
"Have fun. Bye."
"Bye." Rebekah said, and I hung up the phone.
I decided to sleep in the car tonight and cast a protective spell in case unwanted vampires try to kidnap me in my sleep. I'm sure Alexander would have given me a place to stay, but I know better than to trust someone I just met. Whether we have met in the past or not, my family and I have been deceived too many times to blindly trust anyone.
But I'm really interested in how I know him. I remember every significant person I've met, dead or alive. If Alexander knew my family and spent time with us, I should know him. This makes me even more suspicious that Niklaus really did do something to make me forget.
No matter. I can't worry about this right now. I'm going to get some rest, drive back to Mystic Falls, and figure out what mother meant about the secrets Niklaus was keeping.
The next morning, I immediately started driving to Mystic Falls. I was still a little tired because it had been hard for me to sleep. I was having too many nightmares about the secrets Niklaus is keeping, and I was again dreaming of Alexander. But since I finally met him, this time the dreams had a face to it.
However, the main focus is on Mystic Falls. My sister. God, I hope she hasn't put her trust in these people. Speaking of my sister, she called me before I woke up. Hm.
I dialed her phone and called her back. "Rebekah?"
"Where are you?" She asked frantically.
"Driving back to you now, what is it?" I ask confused.
"They are waking Mikael." Rebekah quickly says in a worried tone and I can feel my face turning red and my heart racing. Just the mention of his name...it just makes my blood boil. I can't believe they-
Wait.
"I'm sorry. Did you just say they're waking him up?" I question.
"Yeah."
"Waking him up from what?" I ask curiously, but still don't understand.
"Apparently, he was put under a spell after he came to Mystic Falls. He's been asleep for the past few years." Rebekah explained. I squinted my eyes, not fully understanding.
Mikael had been asleep this entire time. The moment I woke up, he was under this spell. Niklaus has been running his paranoid ass all around the world trying to build his army, when Mikael has been desiccated this entire?!
I try to calm myself down and focus on the problem at hand. "How did they find him?"
"I have no idea, but Elena came up to me today about it. They know he's our father." Rebekah explains.
"What? And she just told you flat out? Why not keep it a secret." I questioned, but still tried to keep my focus on the road.
"Their main target is Niklaus. They don't care much if we live or die, but Elena just wanted to know our story and why we are running from him." Rebekah explains.
"You know, them not wanting us dead could work to our advantage. Tell her the story." I stated, coming to a conclusion.
"Really?"
"If they're going to bring Mikael, they might as well know who they're dealing with." I say.
"Okay, I will. When will you be here?" Rebekah asks me.
"In about 3 to 4 hours?"
"You better hurry. I don't think I can convince them not to bring Mikael by myself." Rebekah says.
"I will. See you soon." I state and then Rebekah hangs up the phone.
First mother, now Mikael? Great. I guess this really is becoming a family reunion.
You know, one thing I don't understand is how they found out about Mikael being our father. This is just too much to deal with right now.
To add to this already terrible day, I see a call coming from Nik. I ignore because he is the last person I want to talk to right now. If I am going to speak to him, it will be in person. Not over the phone where he can easily hang up on the conversation.
It's going to be a long ride back.
After a long trip of stressing and overthinking about what would happen if Mikael came back, it took three hours for me to finally arrive back in Mystic Falls.
I drove straight to the Salvatore house, only to find no car in the driveway. I hope that means Damon and Stefan are not here.
I park in front of the house and get out of the car. I walk into the house without even knocking.
"Rebekah!" I scream in the house, hoping she's here. But then out of nowhere, I'm being hugged by my sister.
"Oh thank goodness you're back. It's been so annoying here. Stefan has been extremely rude to me, Elena is trying to trick me into saying something that can help them defeat Niklaus, and now even Tyler is becoming too busy for me." Rebekah hugs me and says. I pat her back and let go of the hug.
"Well, I bet this is all very interesting, but we're leaving." I state, dragging her arm to the door, but she makes me let go.
"Why are we leaving?" Rebekah questioned me.
I sigh at her and cross my arms. "I'm not sure who to trust anymore, including our brother."
"What are you talking about?" Rebekah looks at me confused. I build up the courage to explain.
"Sister...I talked to mother." I finally spit it out, and Rebekah takes a step back, shocked.
"What...?" She asked confused and I was going to explain, but Elena walked in and was surprised to see me.
"Kalle, you're back." She states, walking in with papers in her hand.
"Yes, I am and I was having a conversation with my sister, before you interrupted." I state irritated and Rebekah looks at her with that same irritated face.
"I'm sorry, but this is important. I'm actually glad you're here because it involves you as well." Elena states, and I look at her, intrigued.
"Well, I'm done talking to you. I thought I told you to leave, twice." Rebekah remarked.
"How do you know Mikael killed your mother?" She asks us and I look at Rebekah now.
"You told her?" I ask and Rebekah nods.
"You told me to tell her the story, so I did." Rebekah explained.
"Good." I state, looking back at Elena. "So you know that our father is ten times the monster Niklaus is, so why does this matter?"
"It matters because her death is the reason you started running away from Mikael, right?" Elena asks and I turned to face her now. "That's when you guys started to follow Klaus around the globe."
"We didn't follow him. We ran from our mad father as a family, and stuck together." I explained, becoming defensive, and Rebekah agreed.
"How did you find out Mikael killed your mother?" Elena questions and I look at her confused. What is she getting at.
"Nik told us. He was there." Rebekah explains and I nod.
"He lied to you, both." Elena states.
"And how do you know that?" I questioned.
"The cave where you carved your family's names, is covered in symbols." She stated, making Rebekah and I look at each other confused. Elena started to lay out pictures of these symbols on the table.
"The story of your family, how your parents arrived. How they made peace, the spell that turned them into vampires, and this. This is the symbol for a hybrid. It's a combination of a vampire and werewolf symbol." Elena states, pointing at the drawing with the hybrid symbol.
"And this is the one for your mother." Elena stated, putting down the drawing of her mother's necklace.
"Her necklace." Rebekah stated, stunned.
"And this is the story of her death." She states, putting down the last drawing. We both look at the drawing and see a hybrid symbol and mother's symbol, with a heart...a heart? Wait no.
No, no, no.
Elena pointed at the hybrid symbol on the drawing. "The hybrid killed the original witch. Not Mikael. It was Klaus."
I tuned out what Elena was saying to Rebekah and started staring at the drawing. Tears were forming in my eyes. This can't be true. I know mother treated Niklaus badly, but he wouldn't have killed her. He wouldn't...he just...he wouldn't do that.
He couldn't. No matter the misery he felt, he wouldn't have killed our mother...would he?
"With the werewolf gene comes aggression and violence. When he turned, all that was heightened. He killed her Rebekah! And spread this entire lie about your father so he wouldn't lose his family." Elena states harshly to my sister and I stare at Elena now in disbelief.
"No. It's not true. Kalle, tell her it's not true!" Rebekah screams at me, and I turn to face her. I can see my sister's face becoming angry. I try to comfort her and believe that Nik would never do this as well. I try so hard to convince myself this whole thing is stupid and ridiculous. Nik would never in a million years do this. He would never...
But then I realize what mother said.
"Rebekah. I spoke to my mother." I stated in a low tone and could see her eyes turning red. I try to think of a way to say this, without my sister having a total break down. But what could possibly make this better?
"She told me not to trust Nik, that he had secrets. I didn't understand what she meant...until now."
Rebekah looks down at me with her eyes getting more red and puffy. I watch as a her lip starts to quiver. But instead of accepting it, she denies it and angrily takes the drawings and throws them in the fire.
Elena follows her to question why Rebekah is so upset, if she believes Niklaus did not kill our mother. I turn around and watch as the anger and sadness floods my sister.
"Why are you doing this to me! I have done nothing to you!" Rebekah screams angrily at Elena.
"Klaus killed your mother. He has a hold on you, on me, on everyone. He has for the last a thousand years! We have to make it stop!" Elena makes it loud and clear for Rebekah, resulting in Rebekah pinning Elena to the wall by her throat.
"STOP! JUST SHUT UP! DON'T TALK ANYMORE! NOTHING!" Rebekah screams in Elena's face, as her thangs come out and her black veins surround her eyes.
I walk over to them both, and look at my sister with sympathy. I try to keep it together for her, as I see all her emotions flooding in at once. She locks eye contact with me and I can start to feel her pain. She looks me in the eyes, and I know she knows that this is the truth. No matter how much we want it to be false, we cannot deny the facts right in front of us.
"No... no..." Rebekah says slowly, letting go of Elena's throat while maintaining eye contact with me. I can feel the tears coming, but I try to hold them back. I walk up to Rebekah, knowing she's about to break.
"Hey. I'm here. Alright, I'm here." I came in to hug my sister, as she dropped to the floor, finally started to cry. She hugged me tightly, as she broke down.
Once I hug my sister, I no longer can hold back the tears, and I feel them coming down my face as well. But I continue to comfort my sister, and don't let my tears get in the way.
"Shhh...It's okay. It's okay." I state, rubbing my sister's back as she digs her face into my shoulder, cries on my jacket.
I cannot believe this. Niklaus killed our mother. We fought by his side for centuries. We ran from our father, because we believed he killed our mother. We ran with Niklaus because he's our brother and we love him.
But he has done nothing but repeatedly lie to us, over and over again. We loved our mother, and he lied to us for a thousand years. He made our little sister break down.
He took our mother away.
Up until yesterday, I would probably be mad at this for a few months, then move on. But after talking to my mother again, feeling her presence, I realized how much I truly missed her. All the memories we made when I was a child, the spells she taught Kol and I. The fun we had together. She was taken from us way too soon.
Niklaus did not just kill the women who made his werewolf side unresponsive. He killed the women who raised us, the women who loved and cared for us. He killed our mother.
Niklaus has done some truly horrible things in the past, but this?
How could I ever forgive him for this?
