Chapter 14
Emma woke the following night to an empty bed. It was the first time she had woken up alone since becoming a Vampire, and her heart immediately missed Regina. She started to panic for a second, only to find a small note laying on Regina's pillow.
Good evening, darling,
You were sound asleep at sunset so I decided to let you sleep a little longer, since we've both been having a hard time sleeping recently. I'm going into town before everything closes to have them turn on the electricity and water. I should be back very soon.
I love you!
Regina.
Emma laid in bed for a while longer, curling up on Regina's pillow, inhaling her intoxicating scent. She dozed off again, sleeping just a little longer until she heard the door open. Emma began to panic for a moment when she heard the person walk quietly into the cabin.
"Regina?" Emma asked, her voice shaking.
"It's me, my love," Regina answered, closing the door behind her, making her way to the bed, pulling the curtains open. "I was hoping to make it back before you woke up. It took a little longer than I thought to access my account with the power company since it's been so long since I was last here." Regina sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to thread her fingers with Emma's. "The power should be back on by now, so I want to plug in the fridge and turn off the generator. Then I want to show you something." Regina rubbed her thumb over the back of Emma's hand for a second before disappearing away from the bed.
Emma could hear the click of a lamp turning on, indicating the power was already working. She listened as the soft purr of the generator turned off and the fridge door open and close. She could hear Regina testing the stove in the kitchen, preparing to heat up some blood. A few moments later, she climbed out of bed and joined Regina in the kitchen, washing two mugs from inside the dusty cabinet, making sure they were clean for them to use once their blood was ready.
They sat together, Emma curled up against Regina, taking their time in sipping their blood. There was no rush anymore. They were safe in the isolation of their forest cabin.
Once they were both finished and their thirst satisfied, Regina grabbed Emma's cup and placed them both on the coffee table, standing and moving toward the door.
"I want to show you something, but I need a minute," she said, rushing out the door. Emma tried to listen hard for sounds of Regina until a strange bang against the back of the house startled her.
A moment later Regina returned and went right over to a small chest in the corner next to their bags, pulling out what looked like a blanket, motioning for Emma to follow her. Emma jumped up and followed Regina outside and around to the back of the house, where Emma discovered the source of the bang. An old metal ladder was now leaning against the cabin, leading up to the roof. Regina flung the blanket over her shoulder and started climbing the ladder, beckoning for Emma to follow her. Confused, Emma started climbing the ladder after Regina, slowly following her Mate onto the roof of the cabin.
By the time she reached the top, Regina had already laid the blanket across the shingles of the roof. She sat down on one side of the blanket, patting the space next to her, inviting Emma to sit next to her.
"One thing I remember from my time as a Human was my love of the stars. I remember spending hours just gazing up at them, dreaming of a perfect life. When I had this cabin built for me as an escape, I made sure there was enough room for me to look at the stars. I couldn't see them in Boston, too much light pollution." Regina craned her head up to see the twinkling stars above them. "Will you lay with me and watch the stars?" she asked, her brown eyes locking onto Emma's green. The light from the nearly full moon illuminated Regina's face, causing it to glow as if she was a star herself.
"Of course!" Emma said, reaching to gently cup Regina's face. "As long as there are stars in the sky, I'll spend eternity watching them with you." Regina smiled and kissed Emma's hand softly before laying down on the blanket. As soon as Emma laid down, she curled up next to her as close as she could, their hands finding each other as Regina rested her head on Emma's shoulder. Emma kissed the top of her head, causing a sigh of relief to escape Regina's lips as they stared up at the night sky.
Everything was perfect.
Regina's hand slowly moved from Emma's stomach, making its way under Emma's shirt, smiling when she discovered Emma wasn't wearing a bra. She gently cupped Emma's breast, her thumb grazing over Emma's nipple, teasing the nub between her thumb and forefinger until it stood erect.
"The stars are up there, young lady." Emma laughed, looking over at Regina.
"The stars will always be there," Regina said, looking over at Emma.
"And so will I," Emma said, reaching to gently cup Regina's face. "I said forever, and I meant it." Emma smiled.
"Me too," Regina said, shifting up to lay on top of Emma, the hint of a bloody tear forming in her eye. "In all the years of my existence, I have never met anyone that makes me feel the way you do, Emma. No one has ever made me feel so alive. And now that I have you, I'm never letting you go."
"Good. Because I'm never letting you go either." Emma smiled, pulling Regina in for a soft kiss, one that was quickly deepend by Regina as her hand which rested on Emma's left breast continued to knead the soft mound, pinching the nub between her fingers.
As the kiss deepened, Regina tugged Emma's shirt up, releasing Emma's lips just long enough to pull Emma's shirt off her body completely, tossing it to the side, not caring if the shirt stayed on the roof with them or fell to the ground.
"Should we move this inside?" Emma asked, her voice already breathless from their kiss as Regina's lips moved to her neck, nipping and kissing the soft skin.
"Don't you dare move," Regina said, moving her lips from Emma's neck to her left breast, taking the nipple she previously held between her fingers into her mouth, sucking instantly. Emma's back arched off the roof, pushing herself deeper into Regina's mouth.
"Regina…" she breathed, her mind already becoming fuzzy. "We're outside. What if someone sees us?" Emma asked to the best of her abilities while Regina's lips were wrapped around her nipple.
"It's the middle of the night and we are in the middle of nowhere. No one is going to see us," Regina said, not looking up at Emma as she quickly switched sides, wasting no time in running her tongue over the soft surface, waking up the nub before taking Emma's right nipple into her mouth, nipping it softly.
"I can't argue with that." Emma chuckled, her breath getting caught in her throat as Regina continued to caress her with her mouth.
"I want to make love to you under the stars, Emma. The stars are the only things that haven't changed in all the hundred years of my existence," Regina said, stopping to look up at Emma, her brown eyes sparking in the moonlight.
"And now you have two things that won't change over the next one hundred years," Emma said, gaining a confused look from Regina. "The stars…and me." Emma smiled as she reached down Regina's back. She grabbed the bottom of her shirt and pulled it up, removing Regina's shirt and tossed it to the side as Regina had done with her's.
They quickly removed the remainder of their clothes, creating a pile of discarded garments off to the side. Regina climbed on top of Emma, the familiar feeling of their breasts pressing against each other made their shared heartbeat quicken. Regina positioned their cores together, pressing her clit against Emma's. The moment she found the right position, both their hips began to roll into each other, the pressure causing glorious pleasure to course through their bodies. Their juices mixed together as they continued to grind against one another, their bodies falling into a familiar rhythm, the sound of their moaning drowned out the loud crickets chirping around them.
They climaxed quickly, the sound of them screaming out each other's names echoed off the tall trees around them, no doubt waking the animals that lived nearby as their first orgasm crashed through them. Regina didn't waste any time, reaching between their bodies to insert two fingers deep within Emma, thrusting slowly without skipping a beat, building Emma's next orgasm. Emma's lips moved to Regina's neck as she wrapped her arms and legs around the woman on top of her, holding her Mate as close as she could. She kissed her neck and shoulder, her fangs piercing Regina's flesh, causing the older woman to inhale suddenly as Emma's bite deepened their already strong bond. Regina's lips moved to Emma's neck, returning the bite, deepening their bond even more as she felt Emma's fingers enter her as well. They continued to move in tandem slowly, the intensity of their orgasm increasing with every unhurried thrust.
Their fingers never stopped and their bodies never stilled as they continued to make intimate and passionate love all night, losing count of the number of orgasms they shared, stopping only when they both felt the incoming sunrise. Frantically scrambling to collect all their clothes as well as their blanket, they climbed down and made it back inside the cabin just in the nick of time before the sunrise approached, saving them from being burned by the sun. Locking the door quickly, they dove into their bed, securing the curtains closed, blocking out the small rays of light that snuck into the room from the cracks in the door.
Once safely inside their dark cocoon, their lips found each other once again, continuing where they left off on the roof until they both began to feel the beginning stages of sun sickness.
"We need…to go…to sleep," Regina said, her voice breathless as one last orgasm began to build quickly. "We're going…to get sick." Her body never stilled, her fingers still thrusting inside the woman on top of her as Emma continued to thrust her fingers into her with the same practice rhythm.
"I'll risk it," Emma said, her lips finding Regina's nipple, sucking tenderly.
They orgasmed one last time together, Emma collapsing on top of Regina, both falling asleep instantly, as if their bodies were waiting for that last orgasm before passing out from exhaustion.
Emma woke the following evening, still sprawled out on top of Regina, to the feeling of Regina's lips against hers, kissing her softly.
"What a perfect way to wake up," Emma said, her voice still thick with sleep.
"I beg to differ. I woke up with you laying on top of me, with your fingers still inside me. I think I woke up the perfect way." Regina smiled, kissing Emma once more.
"Yes, you're right. You win." Emma smiled. "I don't think I can move yet," Emma said, trying to will her blissfully sore body to move.
"Good, because I'm not ready to let you go." Regina smiled, wrapping her arms around the love of her life, holding her firmly against her naked chest.
Eventually, they managed to drag themselves out of bed and dressed and were just settling into the couch with their warm mugs of blood when they heard a strange sound outside.
"What the hell?" Emma asked as the sound grew louder. This time, she could clearly make out the sound of a growl.
"Right on time." Regina smiled, placing her mug on the table and making her way to the door, unlocking it quickly.
"Regina! Don't go out there!" Emma yelled, rushing toward Regina who was already outside on the porch. Waiting just beyond the porch were three wolves, each barring their teeth at Regina.
"We mean you no harm," Regina said, her hands held in the air above her head as she took a few steps toward the growling wolves. "We just want to talk. That's all we ask."
The growling instantly stopped, but the wolves remained on high alert.
"Can you understand me?" Regina asked, slowly lowering her hands.
The Black Wolf standing front and center nodded her head, her brown eyes staying locked on Regina.
"I have known of the shapeshifting Wolves of Storybrooke for many generations. Am I to assume you are the current Alpha of the pack?" Regina asked, gesturing toward the Black Wolf.
After a moment, the Black Wolf nodded.
"And if I remember pack dynamics correctly, one of these other ladies is your Omega, and I correct?" Regina asked.
The Black Wolf thought for a moment, sizing up the stranger before nodding and gesturing toward the White Wolf standing behind and to the right of her.
"And that must mean you are her Chosen Beta, is that correct?" Regina asked, speaking to the Red Wolf to the left.
The Wolf nodded slightly, answering Regina's question.
"Wonderful. My name is Regina Mills, and this is my Mate…" Regina reached behind her for Emma's hand, guiding her toward the Wolves. "…Emma Swan. We are Vampires," Regina said, causing the Wolves to begin to growl again. "We wish you no harm!" Regina said again, raising her hands above her head once more. Emma's heart started to race as she followed suit. "We wish to propose a treaty. One that I have shared with previous Alphas of your pack over the last fifty years. All I wish is for you to listen to me, and consider my treaty."
The Wolves stopped growling and sat down, ready to listen to Regina's request.
"Great." Regina sat on the ground in front of the Wolves, bringing her down to their eye level. Emma sat beside her, directly across from the White Wolf, taking her place next to her Mate. "This forest belongs to your pack. It always has been and always will be your territory. We only wish for the opportunity to live within your land. We will hunt and consume only animal blood while we are living here. And it goes without saying, under no circumstances will any Wolf ever be harmed by us," Regina said, waiting for Alpha to respond.
Alpha nodded.
"I know your pack likes to hunt during Wolf's time, and if I remember correctly, you generally like to hunt small game, such as rabbits and squirrels, since they can be consumed quickly with little to no waste."
Alpha nodded once again.
"Great. We promise to only hunt large game, mostly deer, and save any smaller game for you," Regina said, once again pausing to wait for Alpha's answer, receiving another nod from the Wolf. "We also promise to stay out of the forest during the three nights of Wolf's Time, to allow you and your pack to run without interference. We will stay inside the cabin or in the close vicinity of it. We also promise to stay out of town as much as possible. When the time comes, when we need to stray into town, we will keep our true nature a secret as much as possible to avoid drawing attention to ourselves, with the exception of the local butcher. We will need to make arrangements to purchase their animal blood if we need. Other than that, no one will know we are Vampires. If that is alright with you as well."
Alpha nodded once again.
"As for the three of you, we know you are Humans outside of Wolf's Time. Your anonymity is of the utmost importance. We do not need to know who you are as Humans. Are our promises alright with you?" Regina asked.
Alpha turned toward Omega and Beta, looking to each of them for their opinions, receiving nods from both of them. Alpha turned back and nodded at Regina, offering her paw to shake on their deal. Regina shook Alpha's paw, initiating the treaty.
"Thank you. We really appreciate this. We'll go inside and leave you to your first night of Wolf's Time. Thank you again," Regina said, standing and moving toward the house, Emma next to her. The Wolves watched them for a moment before standing and turning around, running back into the forest.
"What the hell was that?" Emma asked, closing the door behind her, respecting the new treaty they just made with the Wolves.
"Vampires aren't the only Human creatures that aren't entirely Humans," Regina casually explained, sitting back down and grabbing her now lukewarm blood, taking a small sip. "Shapeshifters have been around longer than Vampires have, living in the shadows as we did for milenia. The Wolves of Storybrooke have lived in this town for generations, dating back to the foundation of the town itself. The last time I was here, Alpha's father, or maybe even grandfather, was Alpha. She might not have even been born yet, come to think of it."
"So, what, are they like Werewolves or something?" Emma asked, sipping her own blood.
"In a sense, yes. But not the way the movies make them out to be, just like Vampires aren't like the movies portray us either. These shapeshifters are Humans who shift into Wolves during the three nights of the full moon. They are Human the rest of the time. This small pack has always been peaceful, simply enjoying their time in the forest as Wolves and living their lives the rest of the time."
"How did you know Alpha's father or grandfather was the previous Alpha, if you never met them as Humans?" Emma asked, remembering that Regina promised to never find out their Human identities.
"I knew one of the Alphas personally when I first bought the land for the cabin, probably about fifty years ago. I spoke to him about building the cabin and he explained it all to me. All Alphas are direct descendants of each other. So one of Alpha's parents must have been Alpha before her. That was how we arrived at the first treaty I had with the Wolves. And it's worked ever since. The Wolves are very good allies to have, and living peacefully with them is important," Regina explained.
"It's nice to know we aren't the only science fiction and fantasy creatures out there." Emma laughed. "So wait, what else is real?" Emma asked after a few minutes as the gears started turning in her head.
"I have heard tales of Mermaids being real as well. I have never met one though." Regina laughed, settling back into the couch with her lukewarm blood.
"That's so cool!" Emma said excitedly, setting into Regina's arms.
They spent the rest of the night inside the cabin out of respect for their new treaty with the Wolves, curled up in each other's arms while they quietly read together, giving their still sore bodies a rest from their marathon of love making the previous night.
The following night, the second night of Wolf's Time, Emma and Regina remained inside, once again respecting the Wolves and their territory. They had breakfast in bed, neither wanting to leave the comforts of their love nest for longer than a few minutes. After every last drop of blood was finished, Emma crawled onto Regina's lap, kissing her deeply, still tasting the B+ blood she had just finished drinking. They tangled themselves up into each other as things began to get heavy, when they once again heard a sound outside their door, but this time it was more of an excited yip and a bark than a threatening growl. They peeked their heads out the door to find their new friends, Alpha, Omega, and Beta sitting outside, each with a dead animal hanging from their mouths.
"Good evening, friends. Is everything alright?" Regina asked, approaching Alpha. They tossed their kills toward the Vampires, each landing just before their feet. "Are these for us?"
They each nodded in turn.
"How about we share? We'll take the blood, you take the meat. We'll share a meal amongst new friends. Is that what you were thinking?" Regina asked.
Each Wolf nodded quickly.
Regina and Emma both smiled, feeling blessed to have made three new friends. Regina rushed inside, grabbing a large bowl and a sharp knife, moving quickly to drain the small animals of their blood before they became cold, dropping the rest in front of the respective Wolves. Emma ran inside to grab some cups, splitting the blood that Regina had harvested between them. Together, they drank the blood while the Wolves devoured the small animals, leaving nothing left when they were finished as they shared the first meal with their new friends. It warmed their hearts to know these three women have trusted them to become their friends in just one night.
"Thank you so much for sharing a meal with us," Regina said when their meals were finished, the Wolves licking their lips of any remaining meat.
"Yes. That was incredibly kind of all of you. Thank you so much," Emma said, smiling at the group of Wolves in front of them.
The three Wolves yipped wildly, showing their appreciation for their new friends as well. Beta turned and looked behind them after a few minutes. They could tell she was eager to keep running through the forest, her Wolf instincts itching to stretch her legs.
"You are welcome here anytime you wish. Enjoy the rest of your night," Regina said as the three began to pace slightly, knowing they were all very eager to keep running.
"Thank you again for coming." Emma smiled as the Wolves turned on their heels and raced back into the forest to continue their monthly run.
"Looks like we made some new friends already." Emma laughed as Regina led her back inside the cabin.
"They seem like very sweet people. I'm glad things are working out with them," Regina said. "I really like this place. It would be a shame if we would have to move because we couldn't live peacefully with the Wolves," she added, looking over at Emma, seeing nothing but desire in her green eyes.
"Yeah…" Emma said, clearly no longer listening as she grabbed the front of Regina's shirt, pulling her in for a crushing kiss. "Now…where were we?" She smirked, scooping Regina into her arms and carrying her back to the bed, where they spent the remainder of the night, tangled up in each other.
Their stash of blood only lasted another week, which meant they needed to start hunting in the forest they now called home. In the beginning, Emma's coordination was crap, and no matter how many arrows she shot, she never hit a single thing, not even the stationary trees around them. Lucky for her, Regina was a good shot, and on her first try she killed a deer. They drained the deer's blood into a bucket, and Regina wrapped the carcass in a sheet, calling the local butcher, making arrangements to barter the carcass for spare blood from the butcher shop. Their arrangement would be quite beneficial for both parties, as the butcher could sell the venison and Regina and Emma gained double the blood they harvested from the deer, meaning they wouldn't have to hunt as often.
"Regina, are you sure you want me to do this?" Emma whispered as they walked slowly and quietly through the forest. "I suck at this. I haven't hit anything."
"You'll get it, you just need to practice. You were so close last time," Regina encouraged, walking beside Emma, a quiver of arrows slung over her shoulder. They spotted a deer grazing a few yards away, happily eating the grass, blissfully unaware of their presence. Regina slowly handed Emma an arrow from the quiver, which Emma swiftly loaded into the bow. Emma took a deep breath as she raised the bow, pulling back until the string touched her cheek. She closed one eye, lining up the tip of the arrow to the target.
"You can do this," Regina whispered as she took a step back, giving Emma a little more room. A moment later, Emma let go of the string, releasing the arrow. They both watched with bated breath as the arrow shot through the air, hitting the target, and knocking the deer to the ground.
"I DID IT!" Emma shouted, pulling Regina into her arms as they jumped excitedly together, celebrating Emma's first kill.
"I told you!" Regina smiled, kissing Emma gently on the cheek before they rushed over to the dead deer, quickly harvesting the fresh blood and making arrangements with the butcher for a trade.
