The Human Soul*
Lucifer could hear Sam's heart beating as he laid his head on his chest. It was such a strong heart beat, a lot stronger than Nick's was. Lucifer didn't have a lot of experience with human souls. He had been in the cage for so long and because of that he had only felt two human souls. He could feel Nick's soul, weak the way that he had always imagined the human soul to be, but Sam's was different. Lucifer had first felt Sam's soul, when he healed him, and now when they had been intimate in Sam's dream, It didn't matter that it was just a dream, their minds were connected and that connection allowed Lucifer to feel Sam's soul. There was a power there, a lot of power, especially compared to Nick's soul. This worried Lucifer.
"Luci, what are you thinking about?" Sam asked interrupting his thoughts.
"You, I'm always thinking about you," Lucifer stated just as there was a loud buzzing sound
"What's that?" Lucifer asked.
"My alarm," Sam said and then he was gone. That irritating buzzing noise had taken Sam from him.
"Note to self, destroy all alarm clock's" Lucifer muttered as he was once again in his hotel room.
XOXOXO
Sam opened his eyes and reached to shut off the alarm. Cas was still wrapped around him, watching him.
"Good dreams?" Cas asked as he raised an eyebrow.
"Yes," Sam said as he blushed.
"You moaned a lot in your sleep and whispered my brother's name a few times," Cas pointed out.
"I was with Lucifer. It was a intimate dream," Sam explained.
"Do you love him?" Cas asked.
"We're connected, I care very deeply about him."
"Cas, I need to speak with you now, meet my at the warehouse where I healed Sam," Cas heard in his head.
"Ugh, speak of the devil," Cas moaned.
"What?" Sam asked.
"My brother's summoning me," Cas explained.
"Lucifer didn't like that you stayed the night with me. I thought I had appeased his jealousy, but maybe I was wrong. Please be careful," Sam warned.
"I'll be fine Sam. Where can I find you later today?" Cas asked.
"I'll be at the library. I need to research a few things before my next hunt."
"I'll meet you there just as soon as I see what Lucifer wants," Cas stated and then he was gone.
XOXOXO
"What took you so long?" Lucifer growled as Castiel appeared in the warehouse.
"I had to say goodbye to Sam," Cas stated.
"Sam is mine. If he needs peace then I can bring it to him. If you want someone to watch after, then I suggest you look after Dean," Lucifer warned.
"I'll look after Sam anytime that he needs me, but you don't have to worry about us. I'm in love with Dean and Sam lo…is fond of you," Cas corrected himself. "Why am I here?" Cas asked as he looked at Lucifer for answers.
"I have to ask you something," Lucifer explained.
"What?" Cas asked.
"When you healed Sam, did you notice anything off about his soul?" Lucifer asked.
"Sam's soul has always felt different to me. It has more power than it should, but I figured it was the demon blood," Cas answered.
"No, the demon blood shouldn't have impacted Sam's soul and it wouldn't give him the amount of power that I'm sensing."
"Then what?" Cas asked.
"I have to go," Lucifer stated and then he was gone.
XOXIXO
"Gabriel, come back to bed," Rowena called out just as a vision hit her. She could see Lucifer. questioning Cas and then she could see him going to Gabriel.
"Your brother has questions about Sam's soul. He will be here soon. Do you have what you need?" Rowena asked as Gabriel walked back in the bedroom.
"Yes, my love," Gabriel answered.
"I'll be here, even if you can't see me," Rowena stated. She muttered a few words and then Gabriel couldn't see her any longer.
"Gabriel, we need to talk," Lucifer stated as he appeared in the hotel suite.
"Luci, it's so good to see you. I heard that you got free of the cage," Gabriel answered.
"Yes, I did. Sam's soul has a lot of power, but you wouldn't know anything about that, would you?"
"Power? What kind of power?" Gabriel asked.
"I'm not sure yet, but I have a suspicion which brought me here. Do you remember when I asked you to hide some of my Grace?"
"Of course I remember that. What about it?" Gabriel asked.
"Where is it? You didn't put it in Sam's soul, did you?" Lucifer asked.
"Of course not. If I had put it in Sam, don't you think that he would be Heaven's most wanted for having the power of a Nephilim?" Gabriel asked.
"Yes, I did consider that, but you are a very clever trickster and if anyone could hide somebody with a human soul and grace from Heaven, it would be you," Lucifer stated.
"Oh brother, you give me far too much credit," Gabriel stated.
"Even so, I want to see my grace," Lucifer demanded.
"If that would make you feel better, then of course. Wait here," Gabriel answered. He left the room and then returned with a locked brief case. He entered in the combination, and unlocked the briefcase. He found a vial filled with Grace. It looked the same as the day that he had Surrendered it.
"I thought that I would have some connection to it, but I feel nothing," Lucifer thought out loud as he looked at the vial.
"It's been a long time Luci," Gabriel pointed out.
You're right, it's been a long time. Thank you for showing me the grace," Lucifer stated as his wings unfurled.
"Before, you take off, I have a favor to ask of you," Gabriel stated.
