Gohan's return to the Gryffindor common room was heralded by awkward silence. The students had all formed into groups and were whispering with each other. Before anyone could make a move, McGonagall cleared her throat. "I believe that tonight has been eventful enough, so I suggest that all of you get some sleep; there are still classes tomorrow morning. Mr. Son—" McGonagall turned to the young man, "—your first detention will be with me after classes are finished."
"Yes Ma'am." Gohan nodded as he hurried to get into the dorms; no sense in remaining awake, as he'd need as much rest as he could get before Vegeta got to the school and he ended up with no time to relax for the coming week. However, while his punishment with Vegeta would last only a week, this time, his time at Hogwarts would be very different than if he had kept his strength hidden.
Gohan's morning routine was different from how it had been for the last couple of months; instead of working through his set on the lawn, he spent his time in the common room limbering his body up. Flipping upside down to stand on a finger, Gohan held his other arm behind his back for balance as he did push ups.
"How long has he been doing that?" Alicia Spinnet asked as she joined the group of students watching Gohan do incredible things with his body.
"About a half an hour," Angelina Johnson answered the question.
"Four hundred ninety-two," Gohan counted out as he pistoned up and down on the four. "Four hundred ninety-three."
"So is it weird that he's absolutely shredded?" Katie Bell questioned, her gaze was fixated on Gohan's exposed abs, his shirt having fallen down in his handstand position.
"Is that a problem?" Lavender Brown giggled.
Parvati rested her head in the palms of her hands. "If it is, I'll help solve it." A thin line of drool escaped her from the corner of her mouth as she and the group of students, which happened to be made up of mostly females, watched as Gohan hit a milestone in his exercise.
"And five hundred," Gohan said as he flipped into a standing position. "There, this should be good enough to not lock up for tonight," he said as he tested the rotation in his arm. Even after being healed up by Dende, there was still a slight numbness from his battle with Cell. "I can tell Vegeta is in Hogsmeade already; he's waiting." Gohan looked towards the town that was visible from the tower he was in. Vegeta's power was noticeable, even from this distance, and it made Gohan wonder why no one else in the castle was reacting to it.
As Gohan walked through the castle to his classes, always in the back of his mind he could sense Vegeta's power. Just like his friends could sense his power, even while suppressed, after his fight with Cell, he felt as if he was ready to explode any moment. "Gohan," Professor McGonagall came to him after his class with her had ended. "I am reminding you that you will be serving detention after dinner with me."
"After dinner?" Gohan paused. "That's..." expecting part of the punishment to be missing a meal, one of the most effective ways his mother had discovered to punish him and his father.
"Is that going to be an issue?" McGonagall raised an eyebrow at the young child.
Shaking his head quickly, Gohan responded, "No, I just had different expectations for how this would go, and yes, I will be ready by then." Gohan bowed respectfully to his instructor as he hurried to his next class.
In the village of Hogsmeade, Vegeta was sitting and having tea with Lily. While he did not like too many of the humans, this earthling female was the 'bestie' of the mother of his children. And while he wouldn't admit it, the wife of Kakarot was an accomplished witch and had control of magic he hadn't seen since the species of Planet Xytl Llr, who had been destroyed by himself and his team of Saiyans.
"So Vegeta, how are Trunks and Bulma doing?" Lily asked as she levitated a tray of biscuits over to the table.
"Good," the Saiyan prince fidgeted in his seat. He was eager to begin his training with the child in the castle; this would be his chance to learn the secrets of the ascended Saiyan form. His answers to the redhead's questions were short and concise as he waited out the time before he would go to the school.
Lily smiled. "That's nice. Any trouble with the kid? I understand that, as a first-time parent, you might be having some concerns."
"We're doing fine; Bulma's mother and father do a lot of the work," Vegeta shortly answered.
"That's no good. I'm sure you could do it, too." Lily shook her head. "Goku fell in love with being a father the more he got involved with raising Gohan." She sighed happily as she remembered how much Goku would play with Gohan back home.
"I will train the boy when he is ready for it," Vegeta growled.
"Don't be like that; a boy needs his father and mother, he's going to grow up weird if he's so distant from his parents," Lily scolded. "He's going to end up calling you Vegeta and Bulma in his teen years if you do that."
"He will have the proper respect beaten into him!" Vegeta shouted as he stood up.
"Do not raise your voice with me!" Lily shouted back. "Of course, his growing up weird is assuming you and she are even alive by the time he is a teenager."
"What's that supposed to mean." Vegeta scoffed as while he wasn't backing down, but it was not how he was raised to pick fights with pregnant women, is what he told himself.
"What I mean is you've already died once, if what Goku told me about Namek is true. Goku's died twice and won't be coming back," Lily explained. "You and she could die in a few days or a few years, who knows."
"I am too strong now to be slain," Vegeta denied. "I will be there for him."
"Goku would have died of a heart attack; him being the strongest didn't matter," Lily jabbed a finger into Vegeta's chest. "The androids and Cell came out of nowhere, and it is because of pure god damn luck and your time traveling child that we are all alive. Are you really willing to gamble that there exists no one in the universe stronger than you or Gohan?"
Vegeta opened his mouth to shout at the mother again, but he stopped to think of the words she said. 'She is right, and Lord Beerus is still likely more powerful than me,.I can't just assume there is no one else who could challenge me,' Vegeta concluded. "Fine," Vegeta folded his arms as he sat back in his chair. "What do you suggest, Earth woman?"
"Oh Vegeta, when I'm done," Lily closed in on the now slightly worried Saiyan elite, "Bulma and Trunks are going to be so proud of you."
"Huh, I feel like something good is happening." Bulma looked up from her work in the lab.
"Okay Gohan, to start your punishment you will properly sort the stacks of books," McGonagall said as she pointed to all the books that had been pulled out for use in the day's teaching. "They all have their respective section, here is a list where they go." Holding out a slip of paper. "This should take you—" she continued before a gust of air pushed past her and the stack of books disappeared.
"Done," Gohan clapped his hands, having put all the books on their appropriate shelves.
"—the first half of the detention." Minerva finished her sentence. Blinking, she looked to see that all the shelves were filled. Pulling out her wand she waved it in an intricate pattern, which would serve to put all the books on the correct spots and none of the texts moved. "Hmm..."
"What else can I do?" Gohan asked as he waited for his next task.
Minerva was perplexed; normally, this time was usually enough that she could do some of the grading for the lower level classes before the chore was completed. "I will need the next day's supplies sorted and ready for tomorrow," she said as she pointed to the supply cabinet. "I will need ten porcupine quills, fifteen armadillo shells and nine troll tongues," she said as she thought about the lesson she would be teaching.
"Done," Gohan called out as he placed the number of requested items in the trays she used to disperse the material to the students.
Minerva sighed. "Gohan, please sit with me a moment," she gestured to the chair in front of her desk. Gohan took a seat in the proffered chair.
"How can I help you?" Gohan inquired.
Minerva stared at the young man and from years of speaking to the numerous children that have passed through the hallowed halls of Hogwarts, Gohan was not the same. There was something not quite human in his onyx colored eyes, something that unnerved her. She could tell the look of a powerful creature; during her training to become an animagus, she had to do in-depth research into felines, and the time spent with lions and tigers had brought her to the understanding of a predator. Gohan was sizing her up, as a threat, as a meal or as a mate, and a part of her was telling her that she came up short on all accounts. "What are you?" she asked bluntly.
Normally, McGonagall would have been more respectful towards a student, but every sense she had was telling her that she was in incredible danger, reigniting old instincts from the war with Voldemort. She couldn't take prolonging the conversation any more.
"Not human," Gohan answered flatly. "At least not entirely."
"Explain, please." she requested politely; she could at least make an attempt to not be rude.
"What I'm going to tell you is the absolute truth. If you have questions I will try to answer it as best as I can, however if you do not believe me, that is on you," Gohan said as he took a deep breath. "My father came to this planet as a young child. He is from an alien species called the Saiyans, an elite race of warriors and conquerors. By sheer luck he hit his head as a young child and forgot his objective to take over the planet and kill any opposition to the selling of this world and its people. Over the years, he trained in martial arts with some of the most experienced fighters to ever live, from Master Muten Roshi, the Turtle Hermit, the Fortune Teller Baba, and the Guardian of Earth Kami."
Gohan took another breath. "After fighting against forces, such as the Red Ribbon Army, and defeating them and the Demon King Piccolo, he settled down into marriage with my mother, leading to my birth. Everything was peaceful for a time until my Uncle Raditz arrived on the planet. In a fight involving myself, my father, and the son of the Demon King, we managed to defeat Raditz at the cost of my father's life. From there we learned that two other Saiyans, both stronger than Raditz, were coming to Earth to conquer and enslave the planet."
"After being abducted for a year by Piccolo, my father in Otherworld trained with King Kai," Gohan continued as he told the story of his life at a breakneck pace. "Using the dragon balls, we brought him back to life, but the fight between Vegeta and his cohort cost the lives of most of my friends, including Piccolo, which as a result caused the death of Kami, meaning the dragon balls we had hear on Earth were inert and couldn't be used anymore."
"Thus we made the decision to take Kami's spaceship to go back to his home planet of Namek, which coincidentally is where Frieza, an alien warlord, was going to try and attain immortality." After running through the events on Namek, including all the people who died and were brought back, Gohan brought the story back to Earth.
"After that we learned from Bulma's son who time traveled to the past about a pair of androids that, if left unchecked, would kill everyone on the planet. So we trained for years to meet the challenge." Gohan sighed sadly as he recalled the last few months of events. "It was a mess. We weren't ready for 17 and 18 and even less for Cell. Finally, the fighting culminated in a battle where I had to stop Cell from destroying the world, at the cost of my father's life once more." Gohan snarled as his control of his power slipped, his aura becoming visible. "And then I get a letter to come to school here, and that is my life story."
Minerva just sat wide eyed as she looked at the student. "Mr. Son, I..."
"I get it, you don't believe me," Gohan said as he stood up. "If you don't mind, I need to go meet Vegeta on the lawn; it'll be easier and less destructive than him coming into the castle." He quickly vacated the room while his teacher was stunned into silence.
"I was going to say, I do believe you," McGonagall quietly said, as she knew no person would come up with such an intricate story. Minerva would need to talk to Lily; there were a lot of questions she wanted to ask, mostly about how Gohan seemed so put together after all the death and chaos he had to have been subject to in his childhood.
Gohan stood on the lawn with the cool November Scottish breeze causing goosebumps to form on his skin. It didn't take him long to see Vegeta walking up the lawn, being led by the massive groundskeeper Hagrid.
"Ello' Gohan," Hagrid waved with a smile. "I got yer friend, Mr. Vegeta."
"Friend is a—" Gohan's lips turned into a smirk. "You know what, yeah." Gohan shook his head seeing the confusion on the half-giant's face; it would be a long conversation to really describe what Vegeta was to Gohan. "Thanks Hagrid," Gohan waved as Hagrid started to head back to his hut.
"So, you were a naughty boy," Vegeta chuckled as he paced in front of Gohan, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
"Yeah," Gohan admitted. "I should have just let the teachers deal with the troll."
Vegeta had been informed of the basics by Lily as to what Gohan had done to get a week's worth of sparring with him as punishment. The redhead had pulled out a few old textbooks to show pictures of the creature. "That does beg the question; you are normally the more level-headed of your imbecilic friends, so why did you fight something that weak?" he asked, interested in what the child's response would be.
"I genuinely don't know!" Gohan exclaimed. "I just saw how big it was and I just had to fight it." The half-Saiyan began to mimic Vegeta's pacing. "It was as if beating it in front of the other students would make me..." Gohan paused as he tried to find the right word."
"Secure in your place as the most dominant." Vegeta smiled, as he knew exactly what was happening to the boy. That the child didn't know was all the more entertaining.
"Wait, you know what's going on? Tell me!" Gohan demanded to know.
"If you survive the week of punishment with me, I'll give you a hint," Vegeta spread himself out, readying himself to fight.
"So I just have to beat the information I want out of you." Gohan crouched down, prepared to respond in kind to the Saiyan elite. "I can do that."
"You don't have daddy to come crying to this time, child," Vegeta taunted as he flung himself at Gohan.
Gohan raised his arm to block the strike and shot out his leg to kick his opponent in the chest. All the while the two didn't notice or care that they were being watched.
"Interesting," Albus stroked his beard as he looked out on the yard as the two fought. He felt it was his duty to supervise any guests on the campus. The other teachers were just bored on a Friday night.
"He is a very accomplished fighter," Filius said as he was enraptured watching the two fight. As a master duelist, he could see the precision, speed and power behind each strike. "I can see why he was not worried about a mountain troll."
"Wh-wh-who is tha-that m-man?" Quirrel stuttered as the group of faculty watched the two people trade blows on the yard.
"I do not know him beyond the barest information that Lily had given. She said he is a family friend who typically handles discipline if another person named Piccolo is unavailable," Albus answered.
"Unfortunate to be named after the Demon King," Bathsheda commented as the two fighters picked up their pace.
"I wonder if that man is single?" Aurora wondered as she nibbled on her finger. "What?" she said as her colleagues looked at her askance. "Not my fault; you can see how firm his body is from here," the single witch snorted as she kept an eye on Vegeta's moving form.
After an hour, the two sparring warriors picked up the pace, as what they had been doing was more akin to a warm up. "Ready, brat," Vegeta smirked.
"Oh, were you not?" Gohan teased. "I was worried you were getting slow in your old age."
The two broke apart and put plenty of space between each other as they raised their power level up and up, their auras flaring to life and causing the ground to begin to shake. With powerful shouts they exploded into action in the Super Saiyan state, all but vanishing from sight as they rocketed around the school to continue their fight.
Their sudden rise in power had garnered the attention of the other students, those who had gone to bed and those who had stayed up, so faces were pressed to every window possible to see what was going on. This allowed them to catch brief glances whenever the two Saiyans would stop to exchange punches and kicks.
Vegeta managed to get his hands around Gohan's ankles, enabling him to spin the younger child around and fling him to the ground, with Gohan's body digging a deep groove in the lawn. "Final," Vegeta clasped his wrists together.
"Kame hame," Gohan quickly pulled his arms back
"FLASH!"
"HAAAA!"
The two fighters roared as they unleashed their techniques. The clash of the yellow and blue beams sent crackles of energy out that singed the walls of the castle.
"Give up, Kakabrat, I will win," Vegeta proudly declared as he poured more energy into the attack.
"Not if I... do this," Gohan responded as he ascended, his kamehameha overpowering Vegeta's move, outclassing it as the output of Gohan's power skyrocketed. "HAAA!"
Not a moment later Vegeta ceased his attack and dodged out of the way of the killing move. Landing on the lawn, he powered down. "Soon child, I will match this ascended form. You will not remain the strongest for long," Vegeta promised.
"I'll be waiting." Gohan smirked.
"I'll see you tomorrow, child," Vegeta nodded as he took off into the sky, headed back home, satisfied with the training he was able to do that night.
Gohan powered down to his base state and checked himself over for injuries and noted that he only had a few scrapes and bruises from his sparring session. Stretching for a moment Gohan turned back to the castle to see a large crowd had formed to see his battle. "Hey," Gohan waved as he started to pass the students and teachers, who didn't know what to say after the battle they witnessed.
"I have to go," Quirrel suddenly shouted as he ran back to his quarters, the burning feeling of Voldemort on his skull informing him that his master demanded to speak with him.
"Well Albus, that is certainly going to be a strange morning announcement," Filius chuckled nervously as he started to usher his Ravenclaws back into the tower.
"I need to figure out how to get that ball to work," Albus muttered, as he felt it more and more imperative to be able to use the mythical orb.
