"Where am I?" Riley asked, looking out at the strange place she was in.
Riley suddenly remembered the portal that she came through in order to get here. Without thinking twice about it, she turned around, and prepared to jump back through the portal to return to her world. But as she turned around, ready to jump back through the portal and escape whatever this place was, the portal closed, effectively trapping Riley in this world.
"No!" Riley shouted quietly in despair. Her seemingly only way out of this strange world had just close, and she would be stuck here for god knows how long. Riley sighed in annoyance. Of course, that would happen to me. Riley thought.
Riley could not see a way out of this place. In a moment of despair, she collapsed to the ground, hitting it with her fist. This just had to happen to me. Riley thought. What did I ever do to deserve this?
After a few minutes of letting out her frustration at her bizarre situation, Riley collected herself and stood up. No matter what was going on, or what was going to happen, Riley had one goal in mind, and that was to escape whatever place this was.
She just had to figure out how to go about doing that.
Thankfully for Riley, her father had taught her to take note of all her surroundings, in case she was to ever get lost. That was something she was thankful to have in her mind, unaware that she was actually in her mind.
"Okay. Let's think. I'm sure I can figure out a way out of this place. It shouldn't be hard for me. After all, I'm pretty smart." Riley said, with a hint of pride, as she quietly laughed about how she just sounded.
Even if she was in a potential life-threatening situation, she had always seen the brighter side of any problem she faced. It was a trait she was proud to have.
Riley started taking note of what her surroundings were. What she saw was a seemingly endless maze of glowing bookshelves, a series of giant island structures, that appeared to be moving and making noises, a bottomless pit, and a large number of buildings. It seemed like a colorful city to Riley.
She wasn't sure what exactly it all meant, but while she wanted to find a way out, a part of her wanted to find out what exactly this place was. She just wasn't sure which one would end up coming first for her.
Riley began to walk around, in order to better see what these mysterious structures were. As she walked closer to the maze of glowing bookshelves, she began to hear voices talking. Not wanting to get caught, she hides behind a turn, out of sight of the voices, but within earshot.
"I don't get it. Why isn't this working?" one of the mind workers asked in confusion to his partner.
"I don't know. Maybe it's a problem with the equipment." the other mind worker said, as he started to look at the equipment.
"Is it busted?" the first mind worker said, as he softly hit the machine a few times.
"It doesn't look busted." The second mind worker said as he lowered himself to the machines level. "I think we should call someone to take a look at it.
What Riley and the mind workers didn't know was that because Riley was here, in Mind World, absolutely nothing was working. Since Riley's mind controls the place, the emotions, mind workers, Train of Thought, and Dream Productions staff all worked with it. But because Riley herself was here, and she didn't know her mind controlled the place, nothing was working because Riley didn't know her mind controlled the place.
As the mind workers started making their way out of the maze of Long-Term Memory, Riley started to back up, unwilling to be caught by whoever those people were. But as she started backing up, she tripped over her feet, and fell down, landing on her back.
"Agh!" Riley yelped as she quickly put her hands over her mouth. But it didn't matter. It was too late. The mind workers had heard it.
"What was that?" one of the mind workers asked, as both he and his partner started looking in the direction of the sound.
Riley quickly stood back up and as quickly and quietly as she could, she ran away from Long Term Memory, without looking back.
The two mind workers arrived at the area where the sound came from and found nothing. The first mind worker grew irritated. He had seen this many times. So, he knew what to expect.
"Bobby! Paula! If I find out it was you two pranking us again, you will be sorry! I'm not in the mood for your stupid jokes!" the first mind worker yelled out. He and his partner were in the middle of their job, and the machine they were using had stopped working for, to them, no reason. He was not in the mood for pranks.
Elsewhere, Riley had slowed down and eventually came to a stop in her running. She was mentally cursing herself for being barefoot. It was making it harder to run. And it for sure wasn't helped by her loose pajamas.
"Okay, I think I lost them." she said as she starts breathing heavily, due to being out of breath from running so much.
Riley was currently in front of the entrance to Imagination Land. Not that she knew what it was or where she was of course. The place was too dark for her to see what it was. She started walking in a random direction, until she found herself in front of Hockey Island. This one was amusing to Riley.
"Heh. Giant hockey sticks. I should take a look over there. That looks fun." Riley said as she started making her way into Hockey Island. But as she was walking into Hockey Island, she noticed something that she had seen before, but wasn't sure what it was since it was too far away.
It was the tallest structure that overlooked everything. To Riley, it seemed like the place where she might be able to find help.
"What is that?" Riley said quietly to herself, as her eyes studied the tall structure. It was glowing, and its glow was connected to the many island like structures that she had seen, and were also glowing. Riley took a deep breath. She had decided on what to do. She decided to try and go to the tall structure and see if there was anything or anyone there who could help.
"I need to get to that place." Riley said as she looked up at the tall structure. Riley gulped. She was not looking forward to this. But she would have to do what was necessary for her to get out of whatever place she was in.
"Why did this have to happen to me?" Riley moaned. She did NOT want to do this.
