Chapter One: Since New York...

It had been a solid three years since the invasion of new York, and the avengers had each gone through their own adventures and trials before deciding to reunite as a team once more.

Kara, the new kid on the block, split her time protecting Nevada and other states while she learned about her new home. Having been raised inside of shield safe houses, Kara did not have many friends and was not used to socialising with people outside her adopted family.

Thankfully, the other teenager, Barry Allen, took her under his wing and showed her how to have fun while also dealing with the responsibilities of being a hero.

The Star Labs crew let her use their base as a place to stop by for help but also to hang out when she needed a break from her adopted family. Kara was smart, and she got on well with Caitlin and Cisco. Wells rubbed her the wrong way, and she found herself nervous around him, but thankfully, the man didn't take offence. He was used to that sort of reaction.

He knew he had a certain... effect on people.

In the last year, Kara had battled her aunt, a metahuman named Livewire, and several criminal aliens, all within a span of a few months. Thankfully, she managed to defeat them all, some by herself and others with help from her friends.

Now, onto the rest of the crew.

Thor saved the nine realms from a dark elf invasion, unfortunately he lost both his brother and mother during the incident, So the Asgardian Prince now lives with that grief ever in his heart. He cut himself off from his father for a while before returning to his duties as protector of the realms, he thus took place in many battles alongside the warriors three before deciding to return to earth. He had news of a great threat coming...

Around the same time as this, Steve and Natasha found out that an old enemy had been secretly growing in power, it turned out that Hydra was not so dead after all, but thankfully the duo (including a new guy in a cool wingsuit) managed to stop the fascist organization from fully taking over shield and then the world. This did create many issues, though, as nick fury 'died', cutting off any governmental help or support the avengers and heroes had. Plus, the confidential files of shield were dumped onto the Internet, revealing many secrets that politicians, nations, and other agencies didn't want getting out. Further creating a division between the authorities and the heroes. This also meant Barry's identity was revealed, much to his chagrin.The Star Labs crew, kara, and his fellow Avengers assured him everything would be okay.

[(Tony brought Star Labs and took on the crew for Stark Industries and as members of the Avengers support and Science team.)]

Bruce Banner decided to take up Tony on his offer of living in the tower, and the two 'science bros' began to bond and make discoveries together. The hulk was barely needed, so the man managed to find a semblance of peace for a short time. Then Tony approached him about designing contingency plans in case he lost control and became the green goliath once again. Thus, VERONICA was born, or as Jarvis nicknamed it: The Hulkbuster suit.

Clint Barton had took some time off, seemingly disappearing off the face of the planet before showing back up at the newly christened Avengers Tower with everyone else. He had been secretly visiting his family, spending some much needed downtime with them.

Barry, on the other hand, may have had the worst time of them all. Metahuman and mutant crimes suddenly shot up after the attack on New york. It then worsened once his identity and age were revealed, causing hell in Central City and all over America. The Flash was forced to patrol through different cities and battle a lot of new enemies. Eventually, the cause of the rise revealed himself, a new speedster named Zoom. In reality his name was Hunter Zolomon, a deranged serial killer who got his powers on the night of the particle accelerator explosion, which just so happened to be the date he was undergoing electric shock therapy.

Hunter escaped prison, hid in the countryside, and taught himself how to be a speedster. Then, once he saw The Flash in a newspaper, he became obsessed with the hero, vowing to become the true fastest man alive and kill his Idol.Hunter studied the reverse flash and Barry from pictures and videos on the internet, as well as from files that had been leaked by shield. He used the tools the heroes had to become a threat to them.

In their first battle, Flash and Zoom were equal. And both walked away, injured. However, the second time they clashed, the monster broke the teenagers back, forcing him to be bedridden and watch as the man slowly burned his city down.

The green arrow and his team, as well as Supergirl, showed up to help, but after a long and glorious fight, Zoom killed the vigilantes before knocking out Supergirl. He dragged Kara across Central city before depositing her right in front of a bedridden Barry in Star Labs. Horrifying the teenager. Firestorm, a metahuman who was Caitlin's new boyfriend and fellow genius, decided to try and step in to take on Zoom. Unfortunately, he was murdered by the speedster, crushing Caitlin's heart.Eventually, Barry healed up and went to go after Zoom, not holding back anything. The dark speed demon seemed to have killed Barry using his tainted lightning, but a few hours later the Flash showed back up and put an end to the Monster's run, taking Zoom's heart out of his chest. He had avenged the green arrow, as well as saved the multiverse.[(Zoom had been building a machine that would harness the power of the speed force to destroy infinite earth's, but Barry killed the speedster before he could complete it, then before anyone else got their hands on the technology. destroyed the device)]

Individually, these heroes were strong, but together, they were no doubt stronger. The criminal world trembled at their might, at their unity and determination to make sure the world remained safe and intact.

They had changed for sure, but they were still heroes. It was written in their very DNA. Warriors for justice, soldiers of hope.

Avengers.

Since Hydra's return, the avengers knew they needed to cut off each and every head that had shown up. While Steve and Nat had done an amazing job in DC, Hydra had spread far beyond the US.

It had been a long few months, but finally, they had located an object of great importance.

Loki's staff. A formidable and powerful weapon with ties to the Great Titan, an enemy they knew were coming but had little to no information on. So it was vital they get their hands on it.

{Sokovia, Eastern Europe}

-Iron man surged forwards, getting closer to the top of the fortress, only for him to suddenly collide with a glowing blue barrier that definitely wasn't there a moment ago.

"S*!" he exclaimed, shaking his head before blasting off into the battlefield, only just barely dodging some violet energy bolts.

"Language!" Steve scolded him, shaking his head as he navigated through the dense forest, weaving in between entrenched Hydra soldiers and automated gun turrets. "Cisco what's the view from upstairs?"

"The central structure is protected by some sort of energy shield, Strucker's tech is beyond any other Hydra base yall have taken. Unfortunately, he's a one man genius. While here at Star, there's three of them. We'll find a way to get you inside in no time. Jarvis is scanning the building for weaknesses as we speak." The young man replied over the comms.

"The Staff is here, Strucker would not be able to mount this defence without it. At long last..." Thor stated, cracking his neck before rushing head first back into battle. Mjolnir in his hand once more.

"At long last is lasting a little long boys, don't leave the two girls to do all the work." Natasha joked, tossing a grenade into the back of an enemy troop truck before flipping over a camouflaged soldier, burying a knife in the back of his head before she landed on the ground. She then tossed a man over her shoulder as he rushed her before twisting his head sideways, ending his life.

Kara blurred past her, slamming into a tank, turning into a crushed can before picking it up and tossing it over her head at a group of floating Hydra soldiers. The wreckage struck them and forced them to hit the ground with a wet squelch. The Kryptonian then unleashed the power of her heat vision on a trio of walking mechs that had appeared from hidden entrances in the ground.

"Yeah, think we lost the element of surprise." Clint added, ducking behind a thick tree for cover as an automated turret fired explosives blasts of energy where he once was.

The archer then rolled out from his position and flung a delayed explosive arrow directly into the trench, hitting the operator before disintegrating him once the timer went off seconds later.

"Wait a second...nobody else is going to deal with the fact Cap just said, Language?" Tony smirked, liking to keep the atmosphere kind of relaxed while they decimated the Hydra army around them.

"I know I know...it just slipped out." Steve apologised.

Barry flashed around the battlefield, knocking out Hydra goons left right and centre. As he did so, he phased his hand through their weapons and gear, destroying them so that they would be useless to anyone who tried to salvage or operate them.

He was the scout, and was the current closest avenger to the main base, and so he kept calling out new threats and troop patterns to his team. "Three more chitauri cannon tanks have been deployed from the west guys, that's definitely where their best hardware is coming from. I'm even seeing what look to be some powered exosuits, composed of chitauri and hammer drone tech."

"Don't worry too much about them, Hammer tech is crap." Tony joked over the comms, causing Natasha to groan in annoyance.

"Tony, this is serious. Thanks for the heads up Barry, keep it up. With you here we'll get the job done much quicker." Steve complimented.

Barry smirked. "I'm a speedster, quickness is implied in the name." He replied.

{Inside the Hydra Base}

"Who gave the order to attack?" Lead scientist and current acting leader of Hydra asked. Baron Von Strucker.

"Herr Strucker it is the avengers." A nervous communications technician replied, eyes wide in fear. The avengers appeared, why wouldn't they attack!?

The man rolled his eyes before looking towards a seasoned Soldier, raising an eyebrow in question. Hoping for a better answer.

"They landed in the far woods, the perimeter guard panicked." The soldier told him with a shrug before walking off to join the battle.

"They must be after the sceptre.." Strucker muttered, thinking fast. "Can we hold them?" he asked the same nervous technician.

The young man blinked. "They are the avengers!" he replied, throwing his hands up in the air. Did his superior really just ask that question!?

Strucker sighed before pulling out a pistol and shooting the man, annoyed that such a coward worked for him, let alone Hydra. Seeing that everyone else had straightened up and now looked to him, he stowed away his weapon and put his arms behind his back. "Deploy the rest of the tanks, focus fire on the weak ones. A hit will make them close ranks, everything we accomplish here... we were on the verge of our greatest breakthrough."

"Then allow us to show them the fruitage of your work, release the twins. Let them battle with us." His advisor suggested.

Strucker shook his head. "Its too soon, no... my men can hold the so called heroes."

"Tony, Jarvis just informed me that the city is taking fire. Your battle is beginning to get out of hand." Caitlin told the man.

She had been assigned to focus on the team's vitals, she was waiting on the Quinjet with medical equipment. Just in case someone was injured. Tony had let two squadrons of Jarvis controlled Iron Legion sentinels behind to protect her, that way she wasn't alone.

"Understood Miss Snow, We knew Strucker wouldn't care about Human casualties. Jarvis, deploy the Iron Legion." Iron Man replied.

Five of the ten Sentinels blasted off into the air, heading directly into Sokovia so as to keep Civilians safe and out of the way of danger.

"We will not yield! The Americans have sent their circus freaks to test us, we will send them back in bags. No surrender, Hail Hydra!" Strucker exclaimed, raising a fist in his version of the Hydra salute.

His men cheered and repeated the phrase before running off to reinforce their comrades on the battlefield.

Once they were gone, the Baron turned to his advisor and gestured for him to follow. "I am going to surrender, you delete everything. The world must not know of our plans." He told the man In a whisper. "If we give the avengers the weapons they might not look to far into what we have developed." He added.

His advisor nodded before freezing, noticing two people who weren't there anymore. "Sir the twins-"

"They Aren't ready, I told you this already." Strucker dismissed.

"NO, I mean, they are gone!" His advisor replied, gesturing to the corner they were just in.

Strucker cursed under his breath. "Damn...the twins."
