1. The attack (prologue)

In the moonlight woods, outside Mystic Falls. Elena Gilbert who was returning home after a long day of work watched the time, it was past midnight. Night swift exhausted her. For several days she worked without taking a breath but it was part of her job and duty.

The time she faced back the road, she found suddenly herself facing a monstrous creature that emerged from the shadows. Enormous and indescribable, it felt like it could eat her alive. Surprised by the ominous apparition, she lost control of her car, which screeched when she turned her wheels in despair.

After a moment of calm, the protagonist opened her heavy eyes, she needed to move, now! Her senses were on alert. She escaped from the broken car, badly injured. She made an effort to move. Blood was everywhere, like a crime scene where she was the victim. She gritted her teeth in pain. Her right thigh was deep open, she had blocked the flow of her blood or she would lose consciousness and be an easy target for her predator. She crawled from a safer place bringing with her the suffering body. Her sense of survival was taking over her.

Nevertheless, the mysterious creature, like a crazy beast, jumped on the road toward her not wanting to lose his precious prey. The supernatural threat unknown to both humans and vampires, unleashed its fury upon a defenseless Elena, leaving her battered and barely conscious. The human felt her time come over and closed her eyes. It was over. Nobody will save her.

Just as despair threatened to engulf the human. Katherine Pierce, usually known for her self-preservation instincts, was walking on the road. She smelt the alluring of the blood from her doppelganger in the cold air.

"Elena Gilbert?" Curious about the presence of her enemy, the sassy immortal charged into the scene. Quiet like the wind, she observed far away, like in an action movie what was going on. That's a big creature she never met before, the car accident. Elena was desperate to survive and crawled to a safer place. The brunette and selfish undead did not think about the consequence of her action, she simply entered into the dance with swift and calculated movements. Katherine engaged the monstrous entity, diverting its attention away from the badly injured Elena. The human realized someone was helping her but could not know who was in her fuzzy state.

The fight was fierce between Katherine and the new entity, each blow exchanged echoing through the quiet forest. Cracks and heavy pants were a melodious terror symphony.

In a moment of sheer determination, the goddess-like vampire managed to subdue the creature, but not without sustaining her injuries. She screamed in pain when he slid her tummy. One of Katherine's knees went down to the dirty ground. Darkness was witnessing the fierce battle. Pierce's vision was blurry but she never backed away. The mysterious monster defeated for now, simply disappeared inside the hostile forest. There was a menacing atmosphere growing. The bloodsucker knew she had to leave as soon as possible or it would be over.

Bloodied and bruised, she turned her attention back to the victim, Elena Gilbert whose life force teetered on the edge. A rare display of vulnerability crossed Katherine's face as she cradled the human in her arms, desperate to save the woman who had once been her adversary.

As the vampire's hands glowed with ruby liquor, she ripped from her wrist, she channeled her remaining strength into healing Elena's wounds by feeding her with immortal blood. Some drops rolled on Elena's dry lips and inside her iron mouth. Elena coughed. Feelings her body burning.

The once fierce rivalry between them faded into the background, replaced by an unexpected bond forged in the face of a common enemy.

Elena, though weakened by all these events, gazed up at her unexpected savior with a newfound appreciation and awe. She could not stop to say her name.

"Katherine?"

"Yes, the one and only." She added prideful even though she was a mess worse than her mortal twin.

Gosh, she is so beautiful...the human thought when she mirrored her image under the soft light of the moon. Even in bad shape, she was stunning. So strong and fierce like a burning fire. She could not deny it. She had a lot of charms that's why she had a lot of lovers...

"Yes I know I am sexy, it is obvious. You should know my dear." Gilbert could not help but laugh at the sassy remark and slowly her eyes closed from reality. She winced not heal.

The town of Mystic Falls, unaware of the supernatural threat that had transpired in the woods, remained oblivious to the shifting dynamics between Elena and Katherine. The incident became a secret, a shared experience that bound them together in a way neither could have anticipated.
