Prologue
A hundred years ago, a group of huntsman and huntresses from various walks of life banded together to fight against the Mother of All Grimm, Salem and won. Leaded by a trio of highly capable and extraordinary Huntsmen, they were able to use the power from the legend of the Maidens and from some divine source and were finally able to vanquish the Monstress.
But that was not all. After their victory, Magic had entered the world of Remnant filling every land giving people more than the ability of their semblances. Using this the world had finally spent 7 years of exterminating the remaining Grimm. Grimm- the manifestion of Darkness that had been parading the land of Remnant was now extinct thanks to legends such as the Mighty Peter Port as well as other notable heroes.
Following came the largest conquest of land. The Grimmlands soon became a paradise of nature in which many species thought to be extinct had returned once again. However after the brief peace for 3 years came the largest War that was fought for neither race nor ideals but rather land. For 4 long years War consumed half of the world. The previous five kingdoms had expanded and were no longer considered the major kingdoms as many new nations had formed during the 'Conquest of New land '.
During the war, mages or those who were able to use Magic were highly used in battle resulting in the casualties exceeding 1000,0000. This however lead to a decrease in mages. However from the war, one nation stood out the most during the dark time. The Empire had stood out the most due to the acts of Violence by one of the most powerful mages of all times. Tanya Van Degurechaff otherwise known as the Devil of the Rhine had many victories under her belt and was otherwise known as the War Faery as she was a danger to begin with. Despite being a child soldier, the amount of violence she has committed against both humanity and faunuskind were so many that till now she has struck fear in the hearts of many despite her angelic appearance.
After the war, many countries were collapsing on its own or by invaders from foreign lands. One such nation, the Capitol thought to have been the Paradis of Remnant had proven to be center of hell due to the corruption it had hidden to the rest of the world. Revolutionist aided by the infamous assassin group, Night Raid had brought the Capitol to its knees. The Prime Minister, Honest thought to be the main source of corruption was caught and subsequently punished as well as the ruler of the nation, the young emperor.
Other nations had the royal family either ousted out of power or were subsequently killed and therefore had to appoint a new King to rule the Kingdom. One such nation, Lugnica were the illustrious Knight such as Reinhard Van Astrea as well the other knights Julius, Ferix and others were responsible for the protection of the kingdom against various threats such as the 'Witch Cult' a cult whose main aim was to resurrect Salem, the Mother of Grimm as well follow the practices of the other Witches of Sin, notably Envy.
Another war occurred once again this time relying heavily on technology resulting in massive casualties that dwarfs the previous two wars of Remnant. This time it resulted in massive production of cybernetic organisms.
During the last 50 years, new sources of power other than Dust had been found and utilized. Combined with Magic and technology, the advancement of both mankind and faunus has reached such heights that trips to Space were no longer a dream but a reality. Despite the Cold War between 3 nations, the advancement of Civilization has reached levels no person had ever dreamed of.
Then 20 years ago, the state of New Ork, otherwise previously known as Menagerie where Faunus used to live in peace now had both humans and faunus living together in harmony, had been engulfed in a massive cloud. It became a gateway to interdimensional travel between varous realms as species neither humans nor faunus had appeared.
Despite the oddity, the world is now more diverse and rather expressive than ever with aliens being more of a reality than ever before.
One wonders what new things the future would bring and how it would affect the world.
THE BEGINNING
Somewhere in Lon-don,
"Gentlemen, I am happy to see that you have arrived. Now let's talk business." A grey-haired youthful man spoke as he intertwined his fingers from both hands.
A spiky green haired man spoke first, "Indeed, Master Ozpin, it seems that preparation for the Holy Grail War is near its end. As such the three houses have decided to enter it. However it seems to be a different story altogether when the families themselves seem to in some internal conflicts."
A redhead beside him snorted, "Yea-, after the two Grail Wars and the losses faced by the families especially the Schnees, it seems that they are highly desperate. I'm betting that neither two houses will be participating this time."
Ozpin just sipped his cup.
"My friend, is that a prediction or a guess?" he asked passively.
"An observation. An Astute one. The damages the last grail war left has made many homeless. Goodness knows that this one would be the same."
"Regardless, Oobleck, Scott give me a rundown on potential masters for the grail wars. It's time to evaluate them !"
He sipped his drink once more.
The redhead brought out a folder from his coat pocket and gently placed it on the desk.
"1st candidate which I am 89 to 84% sure that will enter, is Taiyang Xio Long."
"Why did it decrease backwords?" Oobleck asked but he was ignored as Scott continued on.
"He is one of the best Magic user this generation has to offer. However the fact that he is been living with the Branwen tribe for a whole year now means something."
"Interesting, so you're suggesting that the Branwen tribe has offered him a place in order for him to participate in the war. It fits though, since one of the the leader's children had left the tribe. Although according to sources both of them had kept in touch recently."
Head Ozpin just closed his eyes.
When he spoke, it compelled them to obey his every word.
"Regardless, move on to the others."
"Righ-right. Then next we have the Schnee patriarch. It seems that they too will be participating this year, but who exactly I can't really tell. But…."
"But..."Oobleck let on.
"I have a feeling it might be the black sheep of the family."
"Ah yes. The adopted son of the esteemed late Nicholas. He was a good man. And his son regardless of blood, the same so." Ozpin commented.
"Ok, then we might have to double check once more, just to be safe." Oobleck added.
"Next we have the Nikos family. To be honest I don't really think that the Nikos family would join in. Same with the Belladonnas."
"Really ? That means we have 2 seats vacant if they don't join. I mean I understand that this means that 2 out of 3 houses that kickstarted the whole thing now won't join in but it means trouble."
"Indeed participants of the war cannot just be some oblivious civilian or someone searching for power. This could be troubling in the future if, for some chance the Grail ended up in some unsavory hands." Ozpin raised his eyebrows.
Both men stood attentively at their superior. His words not lost, they vowed to make sure nothing like the 1st Grail war would happen again.
"However-,"Scott continued," it seems like the Church has decided to join this war. They are sending one of their high valued members, an extraordinary Magi to join."
"Amazing. A Magi and yet a member of the church. I never would have believed such a notion would exist in real life." Oobleck said, his eyes wide in wonder.
Ozpin just nodded.
"Then we have a high society member joining in. You might have heard them, after all they made quite a fuzz just last year and this month in the papers."
"Apart from these 4, any other participant has not yet joined or at least made an indication to join. Besides with the grail being fully summoned within the next 2 months, I have a feeling that some people might find themselves roped up in this business."
"Have no fear. One of the 3 vacant seats is being currently taken care of. A very good friend of mine has decided to spearhead the entire war and if in the off chance he wins, he will do so for the sake of the world." Ozpin exclaimed as he begin to sip his drink once more.
"He wouldn't happen to be the former Admiral James Ironwood?" Scott deadpanned.
Oobleck chuckled. Ozpin just drank his chocolate coffee in silence.
3 weeks later
Surrounded by dense forest and situated near a beautiful lake was a large house modelled like a manor. However as one gets closer to the manor, the image disappears from their eyes and even the experienced Magi can hardly see the housing and the traps laid right beside it.
Inside a large room stood a tall well-dressed blonde man. He stood next to the window, looking out to the broken moon. He stared hard at it.
"You know, staring hard at the moon isn't really going to make it go away ?!" a gentle but firm female voice with a hint of humor stole his concentration.
"Raven," Taiyang began ,"Maybe I bemooned the thought of it."
Neither laughed.
"Yea, it sucked that bad."
"Tai, your jokes are as bad as your puns."
"Maybe…"
"No. It's that bad."
"Yeah." he sighed.
"At least your in a good enough mood to joke around."
Then she began to address the elephant in the room.
"The best thing you can do is to grab ahold of, of ….of her and hold her close and tight."
The few month old baby was sleeping peacefully in the cradle.
"Tai, she exists because of you. She is here because of you. And because of me."
"Rav-."
"Hold her. She needs it and she needs you. And because you need her too."
Taiyang did as he was told.
And as he grabbed the infant, the infant wrapped her tiny hands on his fingers, coiling it tightly.
He stared at the baby. He held it close to his heart. And it heard his heartbeat.
He looked again at the baby. And at that moment Raven, his wife came towards him. And she laid her head on his shoulder and stared at the baby alongside him.
For a while neither spoke.
And then softly she spoke.
"We both need her. And she needs us too. She-She is our world now. Not the world outside. This is our world."
Tai kept quiet.
"We have done plenty of wrong things. Things that needed to be done not to save the people or to do good. But to satisfy our selfish desires. But let me tell you that she too, that Ya-Yang is our greatest selfish desire. And that proves that not all desires of ours are bad or evil."
Tears fell down his face as he kept holding onto Yang. For a moment, Raven contemplated about consoling him before seeing his face.
"Look at that," she added teasingly, "crying just cause you are so happy. Tai, you don't need to cry just to be happy."
Tai didn't reply. He just held onto the baby, clutching it carefully around his chest while sobbing quietly, a small smile on his face as tears began pouring down his face.
