Chapter 296
Hiccups POV:
It's been six months since I met with the ninja leaders of the five clans that my ninja founded and had the discussion on how to make the relationship, we had work and in that time a lot has happened with me and my family. The reason for this is I've been able to actually enjoy a bit of relaxation with no monsters, demons, trained assassins or any magical beasts coming after me or my family to cause trouble for some reason and it is because of this quiet a few things have happened with us. Fortunately, these things that have happened have mostly been good things that will make life a little bit easier during missions whether they be stealth or attack missions. Along with this these things would also just make life here on the island a little easier when it comes to doing some chores like harvesting and hunting boars.
Brant has been training a lot harder which I honestly didn't think was possible but after Egil was kidnapped he claimed he wanted to ensure no enemies were able to take his family away from him. We were all worried about him pushing himself too hard and how it would affect his body, so we had to try and bring him to a stop and just enjoy his days a bit and spend some time with his family having fun outside of the training room. After a week of trying, I decided to unleash my ultimate weapon against him and brought in Robyne, asking her to see if she'd be able to get him to take a break and come out of training to enjoy some down time. I am happy to say she was able of accomplishing what we were not and got him out of the training room and out into the sunlight and having some fun with his friends, dragon and family.
Still though he kept on training hard between breaks and it was because of this that his equipment was soon ready for an enhancement, and we were not disappointed with the results from their latest trip to the silver forge. It still had a blade on each end, but the very handle itself took a new material that was made of a grayish silverish blue metal with a spiral made of copper going down the pole, but in the center there's a golden ring which is where it's able to separate into two, by giving a small twist making them detach to form two arm length spears. Along with this the spearheads had taken new forms as well with the one taking on a form similar to a dragon scale at the tip well the lower part of the blade going down taking the form of a v-shape before connecting to the handle that had a ring on and the color being a maroon crimson color with a tint of orange as if the metal was hot. I also noticed a ring wrapping around the part where the one head met the pole with four spikes coming off of it and also how the other spearhead was different to the first one. This one was straight and narrow with a design built into the blade with gold trimmings and at the bottom of the blade where it is connected to the handle, there's a strange ring that seems to be traveling through the connection piece in the form of an eight prong star and where the ring goes into the spear also has a golden tint on where the end of the ring goes within the spears handle. (AN: Image on pinterest page guys.)
Power wise, in addition to the original powers, it has obtained the ability to launch the spearheads that almost instantly grow back and when launched each end had a different result when they hit their targets. The one end with the eight-pronged star has enough power to pierce gronkle iron and shatters on impact, striking victim hard enough to send a gronkle flying. The other end on the other hand, when it hits its target, it explodes as if hit by a plasma blast but with a lot more power that could blow a hole through a gronkle iron door. As for his armor it had gotten stronger, but appearance wise it had changed a lot since it now looked to be of multiple lairs that were lined with studs and now had pauldrons that had a single ruby at the base of them. The bracers now wrapped fully around his forearms and as for what abilities the new form brought, it enhanced his strength so he could have more strength to his strikes.
Along with this I decided he'd earned another trip to the golden dragon armory and walked out with a black expressionless mask that looked as if it were made of smoke. I remember when I made that mask and had to say even when it was created that it creeped me out and now that it was being worn by my eldest son, it was pretty scary but to be honest I think that's the purpose of its design. Power wise I was impressed since it was able to throw off anyone who saw it since it prevented anyone from seeing Brants face and the eyeholes made his eyes look like dark voids. Along with this, the mask allows Brant to see in the dark as if it were daytime and turn into a ring for his finger that can take the form of smoke that forms his mask so if he ever went out, he'd always have a disguise.
Chara on the other hand, like her brother had been training hard but knew her bodies limits and didn't take her training as hard as her brother had even though she was just as determined to protect her family. It was because of this that her equipment had also gone through enhancements which would serve her well in future battles and reconnaissance missions. To begin with her armor had grown longer at the bottom to form a skirt so her outfit looked more like that of a kunoichi's ninja outfit with blue lining and the skirt had to be pulled closed from the side. In addition to this the knuckles on the gloves now had a single blue gem on top of each one and they were harder than gronkle iron allowing for a much stronger punch and I know this because she punched a block of gronkle iron and left a fist shaped dent in it.
It did look good but still the new armor did have its downsides for me since it now hugged her figure, and her body was beginning to develop so it showed she had a good figure. Sadly, in addition to this the boys in her generation had also begun to mature, meaning they'd begun to take notice of her, and I did not like the way they were looking at her body up and down. I knew she could handle things if they tried to get close to her in a way, she doesn't like but it didn't stop me from worrying about her as any father would. Fortunately for me, her kunai belt, had also gotten an upgrade with the open ring at the end of her chain kunai becoming a three fingered claw with a curved thumb making it more effective as a grappling hook so she'd be able to grapple ledges and foes more easily when she needed to and if she really wanted a good grip, spikes could pop out of the fingers.
I admit, I was impressed with how far she'd come and allowed her another trip to the golden dragon armory wearing a thin black sash just above her hips with a palm sized, blue oval shaped gem on the left side which matched her outfit. As for what it could do, the gem could be pulled off the belt and connected to a thick black wire that could become stiff as a stick for her to hold with the gem on the end as if it were impaled by the stick like wire. After its become solid a thin disk pops out from the sides of the gem and rapidly spins forming a blade that can easily cut through gronkle iron like a hot knife through yak butter and when she's done she just has to yank it up and the blade will retract before the gem is pulled back into its original place on the belt. This would be perfect as not only a hidden weapon but also a tool for infiltration and escapes since she'd be able to cut the locks off things, cut through bars and more so I was happy with what my daughter got. What I was not happy about though was how she'd been testing it in the training mirror for hours in both combat and in infiltration training tests.
Egil had also been training hard with his sword skills growing to the point that he'd be able to give even the best sword wielders on Berk a run for their money. I rewarded all his hard work with access to the golden dragon armory once more and when he walked out wearing a new jacket that was a light ice blue that was cold to the touch to the point that when someone grabs it, the part that its touching gets covered in frost that was so cold it burns and if he focuses the coldness on one part, it could freeze and shatter metal. In addition to this defense, it was also like my coat in its ability to act as armor, but Egil would still feel the strike and at worse receive a nasty bruise while the weapon would be weakened by the frost that covers its weapon.
Then there's his swords new abilities and form which were impressive to say the least since its blade now had spikes coming out from the sides. As for its abilities, if he stabbed his blade into the ground, a fifteen foot long and five-foot-wide path of ice would form in front of him and this ice was slippery so he could trip up his enemies and if he tightened his grip, foot long icicles form from it and they were strong enough to pierce gronkle iron when they come out. Now if he pulled his sword out of the ground the ice just shatters but if he swipes his sword up, then a wall of ice forms with it being ten feet tall, foot thick wall of ice forms and ten feet wide. It was because of his swords new form that I had to make him a new sheath lined with polar quartz to keep it from shattering due to the coldness and made it so he could carry it on his back.
Finally there's little Xiu and Zephyr who have both done a bit of growing in the time we've enjoyed relaxing with both beginning to crawl around which is why they were mostly kept in their room under the watchful eye of Zhang Yong who was almost always being cuddled by them. I had to admit it was adorable and I'd even considered having a painting done of it since I figure it would be nice to hang up in my private study. Along with this, both of them had actually each grown their first tooth and had begun speaking more than just gurgles but they hadn't said their first words yet. Along with this, they'd also begun growing their hair with Xiu's hair being black as night like her mothers with Zephyr having light auburn hair so like mine but a little lighter in color.
Then there's my wives with all of them just kept doing their own thing with Blanca taking care of Xiu and helping train her fellow snake guardians with a few being able to obtain human form. Astrid on the other hand had continued her own training while also looking after Zephyr and on occasion training while looking after Zephyr by putting her in a carrier against her chest and then doing laps through the jungle with multiple twists and turns. What worried both Blanca and Astrid though were the obvious delights the girls took in the violence they saw when watching me train in the training mirror against a couple of bandits. Blanca actually walked up and asked me if we should be concerned about the obvious delight our daughter took in the extreme violence, but all I said was it was the Viking blood within her that brought her so much delight in it. As for Hadasa, she's been spending her days in the gardens tending to the plants but also training to fight under Astrid and Blanca who were impressed by her determination to become stronger.
The biggest change in all our lives though was how Chiaki had come to live with us on the island and had become the official nanny to the kids, looking after them whenever me or my wives were busy. Most of the time though, she'd sit in the bamboo forests shrine, playing her koto peacefully with the yokai joining in with their own music that was carried upon the wind. As for my relationship with her, it had gone through a major change a month after she moved here and that change is, we'd started dating with the blessing of my wives who encouraged me to try dating her. I took her out a few times and things just took off from there with us enjoying each other's company and sure enough before I knew it, I was in love with her like my other wives and was thinking of asking her to marry me, but it would still be a bit of time before I felt the time was right.
Besides that, things have been quiet outside of our trips to Japan to train under the ninja clans and helping train the new members who needed to be taught the basics and to drop off the gronkle iron to keep my end of the bargain when it comes to the alliance. During this time, I had bought a few new pieces of art, scrolls, books and other things just to make the trip a little more interesting and it gave me something to do while the kids trained with the ninja. It was during these times I captured a couple of bandits before sending anonymous messages to the local samurai so they could come and collect them and then watching over the bandits from above on Toothless until the samurai came to collect them. When this happened, we'd take off before any of the samurai saw us since we didn't want to cause any panics among the people which is also why I always took the bandits down using only my kung fu and ninja skills, no magic whatsoever as that would draw attention.
Now I was sitting in my private room wearing nothing but pants, a shirt and my alpaca fur night gown while enjoying one of my favorite books with a cup of tea in my free hand while the smell of incense filled the room, relaxing me. Nobody could blame me for wanting a little down time since it had been a long day of chiefing for me while my dad took the day off to spend time with my mom on their dragons and taking off for the day. Unfortunately for me, Not So Silent Sven's sheep got lose again and I had to help round them all up and chase a few of them out of houses they'd run into. Following this, I had to help clean up the mess the sheep had made in the form of knocking over a few things, pushing a few barrels and wagons down and more making today a very busy day. My wives didn't have it easy either since they got into the cabbage fields, so Hadasa had to use her powers to regrow them, Astrid had to lead the riders in rounding up the sheep and Blanca was kind enough to bring lunch for us and the riders.
The lunch she prepared was a traditional Chinese lunch of rice balls and sushi and although some of the riders were hesitant to try raw fish but after my wives and I enjoyed a few pieces they gave it a chance. We all did have a good laugh when Snotlout put a large slab of wasabi despite me warning him how it should only be put on in small amounts because of how hot it was. I couldn't help but chuckle at the memory of how Snotlout claimed that if he could handle the heat of a monstrous nightmare, he could easily handle a little goo and threw the sushi into his mouth. As expected, he couldn't handle it and screamed before running to the well and then jumping headfirst into it and then we had to fish him out as he panted from the heat of the wasabi. I chuckled at the memory while shaking my head and said.
"One day, Snotlout confidence is going to get him into real trouble." I sighed. "At least he and the others enjoyed the lunch." I looked back down at my book and continued my reading but the memory of how the people enjoyed their meal, and an idea began to form in my head.
3 weeks later
It's been three weeks since I helped round up the sheep that had run into the village from Sven's farm and an idea came to my mind and after that I got to work in making this idea a plan and the plan into reality in the village of the Grown Hills tribe. I bought a large building that used to be a restaurant until the owner passed away and his son sold the building since the girl he was going to marry lived on another island and he didn't want to pull her away from her family. I bought the building from that same son who needed the money now that him and his wife were expecting their third child and he'd been having trouble selling the place since the place was meant to be a restaurant and there were enough selling the same food in the village.
For me it was perfect for the plan I had and as soon as I bought the building, I got to work with approval of both my father and chief Nigren who was all for it as long as I paid the annual taxes. After that I began turning the place into a restaurant but what would make this place different from the other restaurants was this one wouldn't serve traditional Viking food, it would only serve traditional Chinese food like ramen, rice bows, rice balls, sushi and more. Knowing how most Vikings were always eager to try out new things since most of the islands they called home were islands floating in the middle of nowhere, it meant they rarely got the chance to try something new, so I knew something different would bring in a lot of customers.
To describe the buildings design, it was a two-story building that was on the edge of the docks with a stage at the back, next to it was the door that led to a large kitchen where the food was prepared with the kitchen being a large room that had counters lining the walls and racks for things. At the back was a trap door that leads down to the storage room with a few shelves lining the walls, some tables and some firewood to keep the stoves burning. The upper floor was a floor that was made to be like a balcony that looked down on the lower floor with the entire room lining the walls in a rectangular shape and stairs on the left against the wall leading downstairs. All in all, it was the perfect place to turn into a restaurant and I had the money to buy it and alter it in any way I wanted to and make it eye catching to those who passe by.
When I saw this place, I knew it was the perfect place to turn into a restaurant and immediately got to work in turning it into a restaurant that would pull in customers. To help get the attention of the people, I used a lot of the artwork I brought from China to decorate the restaurant such as paintings and statues. As for those who would be working there, I'd selected the first snake guardians who had been able to obtain human form since they had the most experience with humans since they'd entered villages and knew how to handle people and most of them knew how to prepare the food. They'd be the ones in charge of taking care of the restaurant as the waiters, cooks and to help bring people in, they'd also be performing dances and playing music on the stage that was at the back of the restaurant. As for the storeroom, I'd filled it with bags of rice, put in some crates lined with polar quartz to hold the coldness of the ice I filled them with to keep the meat and fish within preserved and other crates to hold the other foods.
As for my reason for creating this restaurant in the first place, I admit I wanted to help the snake guardians get out into the world a bit more, so they didn't have to be prisoners in their own home. This was my way of helping them open a bit more to the world where humans live and because I knew they'd be able to handle any troublemakers in the restaurant. All this aside, the main reason I'd made the restaurant wasn't for the money it would make but for the information it would help me gather. The way it works is bandits often met up in the Grown Hills tribes' restaurants and bars to discuss things but as long as they didn't cause any problems than the owners and Nigren had no problems with them. My snake guardians on the other hand had been trained to keep an ear out on what was going on in the restaurant and would keep an eye on those who look suspicious and listen in on their conversations to gather information on possible crimes to let me know what they find out. They'd then put the information on scrolls and send them to me in small loot sharks I'd built for passing on information and kept them in the water, but they could be accessed through a secret door in the storage room, leading to beneath the docks.
Now it's been a week since the restaurant opened and as expected, business had been booming with people rushing in on a daily basis, keeping my snake guardians busy but so far, no information of any value had been sent yet. I didn't mind though since it had only been a week since it opened up and the money was coming in constantly at the end of each week and I had already made back the money I had spent to buy the building and also bought the building behind it which I turned into a bunker for the guardians to sleep in at night.
Presently though, I was in the villages forge, helping Gobber make some nails and repair some tools for Berks builders and wood collectors after an accident involving a gronkle that had an allergy to some of the plants resulting in the wagon with the tools being blasted. I had to say I was enjoying this since it reminded me of simpler times in which I didn't have to worry about magic beasts or bandits coming after me, but I still had to worry about Snotlout and the twins deciding to beat me. I smiled as me and Gobber talked like old times and how he was thinking of expanding his forge a bit so he could begin making saddles for dragons since more people were becoming riders each month and to have a saddle made riding for hours a lot less painful. Along with this there were multiple types that I designed for different dragons and different needs such as ones for speed, ones for carrying cargo, ones for long trips and more. It was then I was brought out of my thoughts by Ragnar walking in and saying.
"Hiccup, your parents have sent for you down at the docks, we've got some visitors who want to talk to you." I nodded and put down the hammer I was using before turning to Gobber.
"Sorry Gobber, duty calls." He smiled and nodded.
"Duty comes before work; I understand that lad." I smiled and left, giving Grum a rub on the nose as I left.
6 hours later
I was on my ship which I was sailing through the waters instead of the skies alongside the ships belonging to the ones who came to Berk looking for me. These people were villagers from an island called Nepenthe which is a place I'd only read about and ruled by a man called King Mikkel The Munificent who was back on the island. As for the one leading the ones who came, he was a tall man named Calder who wore a grey baggy robe and had his blond hair combed back and off his head. The reason they had come to Berk is because recently their island has had multiple earthquakes coming out of nowhere and after hearing about my screaming and whispering deaths abilities, they'd begun to fear it might be the work of dragons that live underground. After hearing about all my past experiences with these kinds of dragons, they requested that I come to help them deal with the possibility of these dragons causing the quakes and I agreed to go since it was the chance to form a new peace treaty. Coming with us, were my whispering deaths and Quake who would be able to help lure out any whispering deaths or other dragons beneath the island. As for why I was riding my ship in the water instead of in the sky, I wanted to keep a close eye on the other ships since the waters we were in were known to have a lot of tidal classes.
Presently, I was in the room that held my ships maps on the floor above the bedrooms and looking out the large window looking out onto the deck while rubbing the head of Toothless who was standing next to me and looking down at the deck. On the deck was Brant who was using his spear to spar with Egil while Twilight and Chara watched them and kept each other company while the boys sparred. The reason they were coming was because I felt it would be good for them to get some fresh air off the island since they'd been training hard these last few days and figured some time away would do them good. Sadly, all my boys had been doing this entire trip was train and spar with each other to enhance their own skills and check each other for weaknesses in their fighting style. Chara on the other hand trained a bit by having Twilight throw a few targets into the air for her to throw her kunai at or practicing wielding them as weapons in her hands. I scratched Toothless' head making him growl in pleasure before I turned to the crystal map and smiled when I saw we were getting close to the island and said.
"Let's hope you don't have get your glow on to handle these dragons bud." He crooned. "I don't like seeing you need to get aggressive with other dragons." He crooned and nuzzled me, making me smile as I rubbed his head. "Thanks bud." With that said I turned my attention back to the deck and decided I'd let the kids train a little longer before having them stop so we could get ready to disembark.
Sunset
I stood on the beach of the island of Nepenthe after doing a quick fly around to check it out and saw it looked like a pretty nice place which reminded me of the Hawaiian Islands. It was a pretty small island with beaches lining them with six pairs of twin hot springs being placed on each beach, the reason I referred to them as twin hot springs was because they were made in pairs of two with one next to the other. Besides that, I'd met King Mikkel or Mik as he liked to be called and was surprised at how carefree he was since I found him sitting on the beach playing a lute. To describe him appearance wise, he had long messy blond hair, a beard that went from his bottom lip down to his chin, blue eyes and wore a sleeveless white vest with baggy white pants and he seemed like a nice guy.
After meeting Mik, I got to work examining the island and found a couple of fault lines, but the problem was they weren't big enough to be caused by whispering or screaming deaths. What was more surprising though was that I couldn't find any sign that there were dragons beneath it and didn't find any sign of any dragons whatsoever which confused me since an island like this was perfect for any dragon to nest on. The thing that really surprised me though was how my whispering deaths and Quake refused to dig any tunnels so we could check beneath the island for any dragons as if they were afraid of it for some reason. I didn't like upsetting my dragons, so I let them be and continued my search of the island from the sky with Toothless while the kids and Twilight searched the ground for anything off. After three hours of searching the kids took a break in one of the hot springs with Toothless and Twilight which I felt they'd earned, while I went to continue the search for any clues to what was happening.
Now I was making my way along the beach with the kids and nightfuries to meet Mik and let him know what we found while my whispering deaths and Quake relaxed on my ship that I'd kept released but floating up in the air. It was then I arrived at a long table with ten seats prepared with plates set out in front of them along with a lot of food set out ready to be eaten and at the head of the table was Mik with his legs thrown over the one arm and his back against the other. I walked up to the table and said.
"I'm sorry Mik, we couldn't find anything dragon related to your problem so nothing for us to fix." He shrugged.
"It's alright Hic, but while you're all here, why don't you join us." He gestured to the table. "We really put on a killer smorgasbord." He took a sip of his drink.
"Sorry Mik, but it doesn't seem right for us to accept any more of your hospitality." I shrugged. "So, unless there's something you're not telling us there's nothing we can do to help you."
"Honestly Hic I-" He stopped talking mid-sentence and leaned back with his eyes rolling into the back of his head and his mouth wide open.
"What the?" As soon as the words left my mouth the sound of thumping from behind me caught my attention and I turned to see my kids and night furies had also collapsed and I quickly went to their sides and let out a sigh of relief when I found they were still breathing before turning to glare at Calder and the guards who were approaching. "What did you do to them?"
"We didn't 'do' anything, but I see they decided to visit our hot pools." I raised an eyebrow.
"So, there's something in the water?" He nodded.
"Yes, the pools do provide a calming effect." He smirked. "We don't know why, but I soon will."
"You really picked the wrong time to mess with us Calder, and you miscalculated." I brought my fingers to my lips and let out a loud whistle and seconds later my whispering deaths came soaring down. "You only took out two of our dragons." I gestured to my whispering deaths who had just landed and were now glaring at Calder and his men. "And these dragons are more than enough to end you."
"End me?" He turned his back on me. "Why would your dragons end me when I am becoming one of them?" He pulled the top of his robe off to reveal his entire torso and arms were covered in green scale tattoos with wings on his shoulder blades. "Lower your arms and submit to my glory so that you and your dragons might live long enough to witness my transformation."
I saw while we were distracted by his tattoos, some of his men had snuck up to Toothless and Twilight, pointing spears at them and knew I couldn't run the risk of my dragons or children getting hurt so I sighed and signaled my whispering deaths to stand down. I could tell they didn't want to return but I signaled them that everything would be alright but be ready, so they curled up and lay down on the sand, most likely to inform Quake about what was happening. After that, some guards picked up my unconscious children, tied cuffed my hands and took us away with Calder following behind us.
10 minutes later
It's been ten minutes since Calder betrayed us and since then we've been put in the villages dungeon, had our arms shackled with cuffs that had the chains going through links connected to the wall above our heads and the kids had woken up. To describe the dungeon, it had a sunken floor with three steps leading to the upper part that had the shackles that were holding me and the kids, a stockade, a rack with torture tools and at the back was a wall made of bars with a cell door leading out, waiting outside was a rack with Brants spear and Egil's sword on it and standing by the entryway was one guard watching us. Chara signaled me with his hands, asking if it was time to break out yet but I shook my head while signaling back to wait for the right moment.
It was then Calder ordered the gate to be opened and to prepare for the transformation before the guard left and we all saw Calder's shadow before the sound of ripping sounds echoed through the hall and it looked like he went through a change into some sort of dragon. It was then he crawled in, but he was wearing a completely different outfit that I could tell was hidden under his robe by the way it looked like it could fold up. The outfit he was now wearing a green mechanical helmet based off of a monstrous nightmare with teeth and horns decorating it with a mane hanging off the back of the head while also wearing a leather strap like vest with false made Metal wings with cloth tissue be his wings while also wearing a brownish dark leather loin cloth. This loincloth was made of green leather and had multiple joints at the front while going around the rest were metal studded strips made of the same green leather. For claws he had curved blades connected to three jointed arm guards with short wooden dragon spikes on top and longer ones on the sides with a false leather tail hanging off the back of his loin cloth. He then said.
"I have shed my old skin Hiccup." I raised an eyebrow. "What do you think of my true form?" He crawled forward. "Do you know I have always understood that I was different, even as a boy." I sighed and rolled my eyes.
"I always felt different as a kid too-" He cut me off.
"Since birth, I've been a dark coiled dragon trapped in the weak flesh of a man."
"Aaand you lost me." He spread out his arms as another quake happened.
"But that's about to change for me, the son of a dragon, the Serpent's Heir."
"Calder, I know there's a lot of misinformation about dragons out there, but I can promise you that you are no dragon." I signaled Chara to get ready to which she nodded and brought out her steel grey kunai and began cutting the shackles.
"My followers didn't believe either, not at first, but these quickening tremors are confirmations from the gods." He raised his arms looking to the sky. "And thanks to your night fury's I shall soon have the power of fire and real wings, not these wooden-" Chara cut him off when her kunai cut off the shackles and then kicking him in the gut, sending him to the floor before she released another kunai and threw them at the shackles holding her brothers while I phased out of mine.
"Kids, deal with the guards while I get the dragons."
They nodded as I activated my ox flame boots speed mode and rushed through the door, slamming my shoulder into the fat guard who was standing there and out the door. Fortunately, finding Toothless wasn't too hard and he'd already gotten both his armor and his glow on, so he was ready for a fight with whatever Calder threw at us. I quickly mounted him and we took off before I let out a whistle to call my whispering deaths and a few seconds later they were with us in the sky, flying towards the dungeon where Toothless delivered a blast to the wall, opening a large hole in it, throwing Calder down while my kids were able to remain standing as I glared at Calder and said.
"These are real dragons Calder, you're just a man dressing up like one."
While I said this, the kids rushed out of the hole and up to the dragons with Brant and Chara mounting Twilight while Egil joined me on Toothless and we took off as the quakes got worse. I flew us back up to the ship and quickly dismounted before I took a breath and began examining the children for any wounds until Twilight let out a roar and gestured over the railing to the island. I walked over and looked down to see what she was freaking out about and my eyes widened when I saw what it was and then every strange thing about Nepenthe like my whispering deaths not wanting to dig, there being no dragons and the hot springs affect, it all made sense. The dragons we were looking for weren't beneath the island, they were the dragons and by that I mean the entire middle of the island was made of six Foreverwings, the hot springs were their nostrils which must have been filled with whatever it was that allowed them to hibernate and I'm guessing they'd been hibernating for possibly centuries, even before the village was established. Looking closer I saw the people were in a panic and freaking out with some people going for weapons and I knew I couldn't just leave things like this so I turned to my kids and dragons which included Quake who had flown out to see what all the noise was, and said.
"Brant, you and Twilight are on rescue duty." He nodded. "Chara, keep the people from hurting the foreverwings." She nodded as I turned to Egil. "Egil, help get the people down to the beaches where they'll be a little safer from the landslides and the lava." He nodded before I turned to my whispering deaths. "You guys dig trenches to try and redirect the lava that the foreverwings are drooling." They growled and nodded and turned to Quake. "Quake, you're with me and Toothless, together we might be able to get the foreverwings under control." He growled and nodded before we took off to try and get this situation under control.
A few minutes later, Toothless and I landed on top of a cliff with Quake behind us as we overlooked all the foreverwings before I signaled Quake to roar. He let out a loud one as Toothless fired a powerful blast into the air, both of which helped us achieve the goal of gaining the foreverwings attention. All six of them turned to us as Toothless began to glow and let out a roar of dominance and they stared for a few moments before they all bowed, acknowledging Toothless as the alpha dragon. I let out a sigh of relief knowing it was over for now and knowing that although foreverwings were peaceful dragons, they'd cause trouble with their size if they were left alone so I told Toothless to have them wait away from the island until we can take them home to nest with Roots who could help keep an eye on them alongside the other alpha dragons. Sadly, I was so rapped up in watching the foreverwings I didn't notice Calder sneaking up behind me until he grabbed my shoulder and pulled me off Toothless and looked down at me with a smile and a sword in hand as he said.
"Change is the way of all things and with change comes devastation!" I glared at him, but I still had a little hope that I could get through to him.
"Calder, look around!" I gestured to what was going on around us. "The island's in shambles and your people need help." I then gestured to him. "And look at yourself, you need help!" He ignored what I said and continued with.
"And with devastation, opportunity, growth, evolution." I saw a mad glint in his eye. "Those great, dreaming dragons knew this."
"The foreverwings waking up had nothing to do with you, it was probably just the end of their hibernation." I stood up. "Dragons can sense things Calder, but not you." I pointed at him. "You'll only ever be a man." He roared and came at me with his sword but I delivered a hard swing kick to his head, knocking his helmet off and sending him stumbling to the side and when he looked at me again, I could tell he was too far gone.
"I AM A DRAGON AND I WILL HAVE THE GIFT OF FIRE AND FLIGHT!"
"You want the gift of fire?" I brought out five orange Loki balls. "Then here you go."
I threw the balls at him and he burst into flames screaming until he fell off the cliff while Toothless and I watched, knowing it was for the best since he needed to be put down and maybe in the next life he'd be the dragon he believed he was. I took a breath and mounted Toothless before we took off to look for anyone who may have been buried during the landslides that the foreverwings caused.
Morning
Me and the kids along with the dragons had spent the entire night helping rescue the people who were buried beneath the ground in the landslides and helping the people salvage their belongings. Now I was standing on my ships deck as we flew through the skies with the foreverwings following us in either the air or in the water while I thought back to this morning once everything had been dealt with. Before we left, I told Mik that if he or his people ever needed anything to send a message and we'd come to help them in anyway we could, but I was surprised when the first thing he asked me to do was to teach him how to use the shovel I gave him so his people could begin filling the crater where the foreverwings were sleeping. I offered to stay and help them rebuild but Mik said I'd done more than enough for them and that the rebuilding is something he himself will have to lead as it was his duty as king. Still though we left them a couple of crates full of food and other supplies to help them out before we left, and I picked up Calder's helmet as a souvenir from this little adventure.
I sighed and leaned back against the railing, leaning my head back while thinking of my kids who were now below deck sleeping along with Twilight, Quake and the whispering deaths resting in the dragon pens while Toothless was sunbathing on the deck. I looked at the foreverwings and hoped Roots would at least take them in and not get all territorial about things and try to attack them since the last thing I wanted was a fight among the alphas. I ran a hand through my hair knowing that chances are there'd be another alpha attack when I get home in the form of my wives getting angry with me for not only putting them in danger, but also keeping them up all night helping people. I shook my head knowing I was going to be in a lot of trouble when we got home so I needed to enjoy the peace and quiet when I get home, I was not going to get any of it. With this in mind, I closed my eyes and just took in the peace and quiet that I would be denied when my wives found out what happened.
AN: And this brings an end to another chapter with Hiccup gaining six new foreverwings, and a new ally for future trade and battles should the need arise. Anyway, if you're having trouble trying to picture what these characters of the island look like, the chapter is the comic, 'The serpents heir' as I felt it would be a good filler chapter and be a good addition for what is to come in the future and if you're having trouble picturing Brants new armor, spear and mask or Chara's new grappling hook then there will be pictures on the pinterest page soon. Now with that said, please remember to review kindly and have a nice day.
